Cannot create your bootable usb stick

Hi all,
I'm new to bootcamp and I have the following problem:
When I'm creating a Windows 7 usb drive, it gives me an error "Cannot create your bootable usb stick there was a problem copying files".
I've tried searching google for the problem, but the only possible solutions I've got was to unmount the iso image and try again, but when I do that I still get the same error and when I check the disk utility I find the iso image is mounted again.
Does anyone haven an idea about what to do.
Specs:
OS X Yosemite 10.10.2
MacBook Pro Retina 13-inch Mid 2014
2,6Ghz Core i%
8 GB 1600 MHz ddr3

Creating a bootable USB stick (Windows/syslinux issue)

Hi everyone,
Lately I decided to install Arch on my new machine, using USB drive as there's no disc drive (out of fashion, all that stuff yk). After a ton of research at wiki I finally downloaded Arch ISO (so everything above is just a foreplay) and started my efforts to create a USB stick to boot from.
Firstly, when trying with simple USB Writer, it gave me an error message "An error occurred while opening the target volume.", which I thought back then, was just the tool's issue. Then I moved straight to creating bootable USB manually, by downloading and installing syslinux. Everything went fine and according to wiki's scenario until, once again, third-party program ought to do something with external drive.
At that stage, I'm getting syslinux' error message "Could not load drive: access is denied". Googling taught me that this, pretty obviously, happens when one's not running prompt as admin - but I am! Now I'm totally at a loss what to do.
(What it says in the last line after re-encoding is "access is denied" in Russian, and the upper panel - that I'm running prompt as an admin)
Stick details:
A new one, was formatted with wiki-recommended Rufus USB partitioner, so that it's now FAT32, 4kb block size ARCH_201408.
P.S.: Everything is done on another machine as the new one has only old XP on which I have no intention to work with.
P.P.S.: Answering the registration question took me an hour, mostly 'cause of that the first online prompt didn't work with the command correctly, this thing is not Linux-newbie-friendly at all though I understand it might be meant to be so

There are four methods listed in the wiki for writing the Arch install iso to a USB device under Windows. You have tried the first one, USBwriter, and ignored the other three.
I'd suggest you try them all. You should also bear in mind that although the ISO you're using comes from Arch, the OS you're using does not, so any Windows issues that may affect what you're doing would be best addressed in a Windows forum.

Windows 7 Bootable USB stick

Hi, I am trying to create a bootable USB stick for use in deploying an Embedded Windows 7 image. I have followed the instructions here:

Ok. Still no luck. I have tried on more than one usb stick. I have also booted the target device from a CD-Rom to prove the BIOS is working properly. Steps 1 - 7 are straight forward. I am new to Windows Embedded 7 in general
and ICE. But, 8-14 seem fairly straight forward as well. I am not quite sure what to look at. ICE is a trial version. Hopefully that is not an issue. For the ICE portion above, I do the following.
1) I start ICE. I have the distribution share pointing here: C:\Program Files (x86)\Windows Embedded Standard 7\DSSP1.
2) I right click to create a new answer file. I Validate -> Validate Only, then I resolve the dependencies. I then save the answer file. I can post that if it helps.
3) I then choose Tools -> Create Media -> Create IBW Image from Answer File..." and chose a folder to write that to. After the process, the image folder I created, has the following in it:
AUTORUN.INF
AutoUnattend.xml
AutoUnattend_Files
BOOT
BOOTMGR
EFI
RELEASE NOTES.HTM
SETUP.EXE
sources
SUPPORT
UPGRADE
4) I copy that to the root of the USB stick.
5) I go to my target device. I try to boot to the stick. I am told "Disk Boot Failure. Insert system disc and press enter"
So, it seems that I can not boot from the stick. In the past, I have had Windows XP installed on the target device, and, know that I can see the USB port. So, I do not believe that is the problem. Maybe someone sees a problem with what
I have done? Any ideas on how to trouble shoot?

I try to install windows7 system on my macbook air, which version is 10.8.5. When I open the bootcamp, it let me to choose a windows ISO image, which I've already downloaded from this website: http://www.w7forums.com/threads/official-windows-7-sp1-iso-image-downloads.12325 /, it also asked me to select a USB drive, which is kingston that has 8GB. Then when I clicked "continue", it said that "Your bootable USB drive could not be created" "Boot Camp only supports 64-bit Windows installation on this platform. Please use an ISO file for 64-bit Windows installation." But actually the ISO image I downloaded is 64-bit windows7. I don't know why this would happen. Could someone help me please!!

I identified the reason to be that the W8 installation file didn't download completely from a Mac OS-device. I downloaded from another Win-device and the moved the installation file with a USB-stick and then everything worked diectly! But thanks anyway.

BootCamp Assistant Error : Your bootable USB drive could not be created. "An error occurred while formatting the disk."

I have a Windows 7 Ultimate .iso file saved onto a "Mac OS Extended (Journal)" formatted USB flash drive. I am trying to install it with BootCamp Assistant and I keep getting the error message : Your bootable USB drive could not be created. "An error occurred while formatting the disk."
I have previously installed Windows 7 on my Mac (and it worked flawlessly - same .iso file), but I uninstalled it because I didn't partition enough space on my hard drive. I have used several flash drive to try and install and none have worked.
Some help would be greatly appreciated.

I tried to install windows 10 by using boot camp assistant. i copied window 10 iso to my usb 2 drive . during the usb formatting the error message came.
"your bootable usb drive could not be created"- an error accrued during formatting

I'm on an earlier version of DU, but highlight the ISO or open it in DU & highlight it, click on the Restore tab, darag the ISO to the Source Box, & the USB drive to the Destination box.
Occasionally you have to rename the .iso to .dmg for it to work.

I cannot purchase a data block from my ISP and although my speed is theoretically slowed to 64k after reaching my 4Gb, it actually ceases to download in reality.

HI tasclix, it depends what you mean by an OS X boot drive.
If you want a recovery disk from which you can reinstall (by re-downloading) or recover from a time machine backup, then nbar is correct.
If, however, you want to boot and run the OS X installer from the USB drive (so that you don't need to download again), then you will need a copy of "Install OS X Mavericks.app"; see this article:

Before downloading again, search your system to see if the installer is still there - it's usually in the /Applications folder unless it has been deleted, but check your whole system for it anyway, you never know, you might still have it somewhere.

Can I create a bootable usb for Lion SERVER?

I've installed Lion OS. Then downloaded Lion SERVER.
Creating a bootable USB for the ordinary OS was simple enough (stop install, show contents,restore partition etc). However, with Lion Server, install package does not appear in applications and there does not seem to be any obvious was way to stop the installation before the install package self destructs. Download from app store shows in Launchpad. Icon then changes to 'installing'. Install process is very quick and it won't stop

If you have a Mac mini Server with Lion server pre-installed you can do this fairly easily using the method outlined here http://www.hotblack.co.nz/article.lsd?i=lionserver
But I have a stock iMac with Lion pre-installed and got the Lion Server on top. I too have been looking at this "problem". Even after you've installed Lion Server and try the method they suggest you do not get a Lion Server InstallESD.dmg file.
My solution is this:
Using your existing Lion Server, copy "Install Mac OS X Lion" to your applications folder. Then when you use the installer with a BLANK volume as your target you will see an Options button on the bottom left side of the Installer pane. Clicking this allows you to install Server components. Your target can be a 16GB USB stick. Interestingly when this stick reboots you actually get the Server Assistant up which can configure your server.
So essentially you have a Lion Server USB stick - again don't forget to add "Install Mac OS X Lion" to the Applications folder.
You can also snag the Server components for copying onto target volumes by shutting down before the install reboot.

MacBook Pro gives a blue screen when I try to start from a bootable usb stick

Since yeasterday my MacBook Pro is refusing to startup. The starup proccess goes like Apple Logo, Spinning wheel, white dispaly and stops - freezes there.
So I made a bootable usb stick and tried to boot from there so to be able to do a format and repair it. Also the recovery HD wont boot...
When I start my Macbook Pro from the bootable usb stick it gives me a blue screen. I have tried to reset PRAM but nothing.
I am attaching 2 images of the blue screen.
Please help...!!!

Finally a friend managed to give me an Apple Hardware Test and it came with these results... Any ideas ?

I want to create a bootable USB drive from e.g. a Linux ISO. On Windows, there are tools like UNetBootin (http://unetbootin.sourceforge.net/) for that. Is there s.th. similar on Mac?

Hi. The easiest way to do what you want to do is to scan it for restore, and then use the restore from disk image tool to write it to an external disk. All of this can be done with disk utility.
First you will want to drag the ISO image into the Disk Utility sidebar. Then you select the disk image (in disk utility) and click the Convert button in the top toolbar. I recommend using the "read only" image format and you'll have to add the extension .dmg to the file. When the conversion is done, the new image will appear in the sidebar. Select that image and then go to the Images menu and select Scan For Restore. You may be prompted for your administrator password. When the scan is done, connect your external disk. Then select the volume in Disk Utility (the thing with the name of your disk, not the model number), go to the Restore tab and drag the volume into the Destination field. Now you can drag the DMG disk image into the Source field and click Restore. You may want to check Erase Destination.
That should do it, good luck!

Creating a bootable USB with diskutil and dd

I am trying to create a bootable usb drive using diskutil and dd. I have had some success but not exactly what I wanted or expected. I am creating a bootable usb for MemTest86. I have an img file provided by PassMark. I first partitioned the drive using:
diskutil partitionDisk /dev/disk4 1 GPT "HFS+" "MemTest86" 100%
output:

This gives me what I would expect, the first partition is an EFI partition of size 209.7MB and the remaining 3.6GB, on a 4GB drive, being allocated to the second partition, /dev/disk3s2, MemTest86.
To copy the img to the disk i first unmount the partitions on disk3
diskutil unmountdisk /dev/disk3
I then run dd
sudo dd if='//Volumes/Mac Mini Backup/Archives/MemTest86 Pro/memtest86-pro-usb/memtest86-pro-usb.img' of=/dev/disk3 bs=1m
Now, the file does end up on the usb drive but..... The data is written to the first partition which used to be the EFI partition. It is now named Untitled and it is a FAT16 partition.
diskutil list /dev/disk3

Now, although, this isn't what I expected it does sort of work. When I boot the system into the Startup Manager there are 2 extra drives to boot from, both named "efi boot", all lower case. Both boot into the MemTest86 utility which is my goal but I first didn't expect the partition layout that I got and I can't figure out why I get 2 boot icons to select from. I am guessing that the format of the img file is causing the partition to be a FAT16 partition but I am waiting to hear back from PassMark regarding that.
So if anyone cares to shed a little light on what is happening I would appreciate it.

The only known way to make it work on an external drive is by first installing Windows onto an internal drive, then cloning the install to an external Thunderbolt drive. Thunderbolt is seen as an extension of the internal bus, so Windows doesn't see it as an external device.

When I restart my computer and hold the option key after creating a bootable usb with windows 7 and partitioning only the original partition shows up. Not the windows one or the bootable usb.

     Okay so first things first this isn't the newest macbook pro. When I open about my mac and go to system report it says it is a Macbook Pro 3,1 and the Boot Rom Version say MBP31.0070.B07. Originally when starting up Boot Camp Assistant there where only two options, the "create windows 7 bootable usb" was not there at all. So after some editing and helpful tutorials I was able to get the option show up and created a bootable usb with windows 7 and downloaded the support software onto a separate flash drive. Finally I did the last step and created a second partition for windows. Once the process is complete my computer automatically restarts.
     This is where the problem is. Once my computer makes the booting up sound it doesn't load up windows it gets stuck on a apple logo as if it's trying to reastart normally and can't. So I shut down and this time I hold down the option key during start up. It brings up the main partition and some recovery thing but no windows partiton and no bootable usb.
     I forgot to mention that I am running OS X 10.9.3. Okay any body want to help me out? Iv'e been at this for hours and can't get an inch closer to having windows. Please and thank you!

You can install Windows from a USB drive in one of these computers:
- MacBook Pro with Retina display.
- Mac mini (Mid 2010 and newer).
- MacBook Air.
- iMac (Late 2012).
