Cannot cut/paste or drag/drop

I have just upgraded to Lightroom 2.1 on my Mac so I hope that this isn't a dumb question -
After the upgrade I cannot drag and drop any image to a collection. The cut/paste options are gray so I cannot choose them and I cannot seem to move any image from within a collection. All of these worked fine with the previous version of Lightroom.
I have tried with a brand new Catalogue - same problem - I have tried with a new catalogue on a different hard disk - same problem!
I can edit the images - but I just cannot drag them in the same way that I did with Lightroom before. I have searched the knowledge base with no answers as yet.
I do hope that I am just forgetting something!

Hi John,
Yes, I am dragging from the image itself - exactly as I used to in 1.4
It is odd, but it is as if there is a permission problem with the file - but I am allowed to edit.
I would have thought that it might be a problem in drag and drop but the fact that the cut and paste options are gray too is a bit confusing.

  • Copy/paste and drag/drop not working in Mt. Lion

After two weeks of searching, I can not find the hangup which is causing my iMac 27" 10.8 to stop copy/paste and drag/drop following successfully doing the same shortly after startup. In Safe Mode, it doesn't happen, so I'm wondering how to track down this problem (extension?). I have to restart in order to get it functioning again after a short time of working. There has to be some kind of timing, like a program installed with a time limit which probably was forgotten in Lion and then reared its ugly head in Mt. Lion. Any suggestions for tracking this puppy? Or is there a program I could buy to do so?

Please read this whole message before doing anything.
This procedure is a diagnostic test. It won’t solve your problem. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
Third-party system modifications are a common cause of usability problems. By a “system modification,” I mean software that affects the operation of other software — potentially for the worse. The following procedure will help identify which such modifications you've installed. Don’t be alarmed by the complexity of these instructions — they’re easy to carry out and won’t change anything on your Mac.
These steps are to be taken while booted in “normal” mode, not in safe mode. If you’re now running in safe mode, reboot as usual before continuing.
Below are instructions to enter some UNIX shell commands. The commands are harmless, but they must be entered exactly as given in order to work. If you have doubts about the safety of the procedure suggested here, search this site for other discussions in which it’s been followed without any report of ill effects.
Some of the commands will line-wrap or scroll in your browser, but each one is really just a single line, all of which must be selected. You can accomplish this easily by triple-clicking anywhere in the line. The whole line will highlight, and you can then either copy or drag it. The headings “Step 1” and so on are not part of the commands.
Note: If you have more than one user account, Step 2 must be taken as an administrator. Ordinarily that would be the user created automatically when you booted the system for the first time. The other steps should be taken as the user who has the problem, if different. Most personal Macs have only one user, and in that case this paragraph doesn’t apply.
Launch the Terminal application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Terminal in the page that opens.
When you launch Terminal, a text window will open with a line already in it, ending either in a dollar sign (“$”) or a percent sign (“%”). If you get the percent sign, enter “sh” and press return. You should then get a new line ending in a dollar sign.
    Step 1
Copy or drag — do not type — the line below into the Terminal window, then press return:
    kextstat -kl | awk '!/com\.apple/{printf "%s %s\n", $6, $7}'
Post the lines of output (if any) that appear below what you just entered (the text, please, not a screenshot.) You can omit the final line ending in “$”.
    Step 2
    Repeat with this line:
    sudo launchctl list | sed 1d | awk '!/0x|com\.(apple|openssh|vix)|edu\.mit|org\.(amavis|apache|cups|isc|ntp|postfix|x)/{print $3}'
This time, you'll be prompted for your login password, which won't be displayed when you type it. You may get a one-time warning not to screw up. You don't need to post the warning.
Note: If you don’t have a login password, you’ll need to set one before taking this step. If that’s not possible, skip to the next step.
    Step 3
    launchctl list | sed 1d | awk '!/0x|com\.apple|edu\.mit|org\.(x|openbsd)/{print $3}'
    Step 4
    ls -1A /e*/mach* {,/}L*/{Ad,Compon,Ex,Fram,In,Keyb,La,Mail/Bu,P*P,Priv,Qu,Scripti,Servi,Spo,Sta}* L*/Fonts 2> /dev/null
Important: If you formerly synchronized with a MobileMe account, your me.com email address may appear in the output of the above command. If so, anonymize it before posting.
    Step 5
osascript -e 'tell application "System Events" to get name of every login item' 2> /dev/null
Remember, steps 1-5 are all drag-and-drop or copy-and-paste, whichever you prefer — no typing, except your password. Also remember to post the output.
    You can then quit Terminal.

  • MS 12.0.1: Custom created part cannot cut/paste, just disappears

I created an opamp part in MS and it seems to work fine, except when I cut section A from the circuit, then try to paste it back into the circuit, it disapears.  Other opamps from the MS master database, I can cut and paste back into the circuit fine.  Or, if I select replace component from the context menu, and try to replace it with the same component, it disappears.  If I paste it near-by and make all of the connections manually, then that seems to work OK.
Can you check the part and let me know what's wrong with it?
    Thanks.

    Hello,
I found that it seems to be an issue with the zero length pins. As soon as I changed them the part behaved properly. I have reported this as it the functionalty should work regardless of the pin length.

  • I cannot Cut & Paste

As of today my I-Mac will not either cut or paste nor will it drag an icon. Did I get a virus that might cause this?

The symptom you relate does not indicate a virus, nor would any be likely in a Mac.
However some other issues may cause the evidence you notice, and perhaps to test
the computer OS X by using a different user account to see if the problem is system
wide or if you have some software conflicts in the main account in primary use.
Sometimes an interface problem can be resolved simply by restarting. Other times,
by use of SafeBoot, then repair disk permissions; look into console logs for hangs
and other evidence of cause in relation to Time and Date of the occurrences. You
could also consider booting into Recovery then use OS X Utilities to repair the
computer's disk drive; there are other utilities you could use to help diagnose issues.
Usually the system logs can reveal ever so much; however most users are not experienced
in reading, understanding, or acting on the evidence available from that venue. The use of
Terminal utility, and Console logs require an understanding of the underpinnings of OS X.
And I don't have the time or patience to delve into those aspects, due to other matters.
Did you try a different keyboard & mouse, since the problem may be in peripherals and
not necessarily in the OS X? A Bluetooth keyboard or other accessory in-line may be a
cause of problems. To have and use a USB keyboard to troubleshoot this is suggested.
Hopefully this issue has a simple resolution; no virus is likely. Even malware isn't.
If you have popups and adware, that's another story. Avoid cleanmymac and other
items, and scanning AV applications only eat up processor & memory cycles. They
cannot detect what does not exist. ClamXAV is a basic way to find & isolate a few
items that you may find in files that come from the web, and remove them. There is
no viable connection between the inability to cut & paste, to a virus...
    Good luck & happy computing!

  • Updated iPhoto last night...Now, can't copy/paste or drag/drop images to folders/thumb drives outside of iPhoto

As the title states, I updated iPhoto last night as per suggestion from the App store.
It installed, and I went back to work using it. Within a few minutes, iPhoto crashed. I sent the report to Apple.
When i opened iPhoto back up, it said it found inconsistencies and needed to repair. so i let it repair, which took a while...when it was done, i went back to work editing some photos from a recent shoot. It almost crashed again while i was working and then it came out of it. Anyways, i shut down everything after a bit of work and all was good in the world...until this morning.
I went to get the images out of iPhoto and onto a thumb drive, but it wouldn't let me. I selected 50 images, copied them, and went to paste in the folder on the thumb drive...but it only pasted 10 of the 50 images. so i tried dragging them all and dropping them into the folder. nothing happened. it has done this to me once before, and when it did, i restarted and tried again and it worked...this time, i restarted and tried again and it kept doing the same thing. so i shut it down, did a cold boot, got everything back up, and tried again...still doing the same thing.
It seems like every time i do an upgrade to iPhoto it causes some kind of problem. it never crashed on me until i did the first update, and since then the stability has been a real issue.
So anyways, i didn't have a lot of time this morning before i had to go to work to try to figure this out, BUT, i did notice that it would allow me to drag and drop 1 image at a time...and that would save to the folder i selected...but i don't have time to do 1 image at a time...EVER! i am a photographer and need to drag and drop hundreds of images at a time.
    Can anyone help?
    thanks!
    Joe

    Thanks for the response, Larry!
I will try that when I get home and see if it works. Will update the thread with the results then.
I hope it works as you described, but it is/was so much easier to just be able to select the photos in iPhoto and drag/drop them directly into the folder on the thumb drive...it's odd it doesn't work anymore...?

  • Cannot customize toolbars by dragging/dropping buttons

I enable the Customization mode by clicking on "Customize..." in the right-click popup menu of a toolbar. Firefox enters the customization mode just fine. I can grip any existing toolbar button (the cursor changes to the hand wnen I am over it), then I can drag this button... Oops! The only place I can drop it is exactly its old position! Elsewhere, the cursor changes to that crossed ring that means no. Cannot drag buttons between toolbars, cannot pick up buttons from the well in the middle of the screen and place them, cannot remove buttons, cannot rearrange. The only thing I can do is to take a button for a walk, and drop it back where it was.
Is is a known problem with a known fix?
Firefox 31.3.0 esr on Windows 7 64 bit.

What about right-clicking the useless button and then choosing Remove from Toolbar?
The controls on the main toolbar are stored in a preference in about:config, but it could be messy to edit...
    (1) In a new tab, type or paste '''about:config''' in the address bar and press Enter. Click the button promising to be careful.
    (2) In the search box above the list, type or paste '''cust''' and pause while the list is filtered
    (3) Double-click the '''browser.uiCustomization.state''' preference and copy the contents, then paste into Notepad or another text-editor of your choice.
The part after "nav-bar": lists the current buttons on the bar. I tested changing the order of two controls and pasting that back and then launching a new window, but nothing was different. I don't want to restart Firefox right now, so this test is indeterminate.
Perhaps it would be useful to "reset" the toolbar layout? In Customize mode, click the Restore Defaults button on the bottom line of the dialog. Does that let you operate the customize feature more normally?

  • I cannot cut + paste Captivate slides/

    Hi there guys
I'm using Captivate 6 and I've made a fairly large project (28 slides). I now wish to split this up into 2 smaller projects so I can publish them separately, however, I'm not sure how to do this without reinventing the wheel? I'd like to export them as SCORM-ready files.
Thanks for any assistance you may be able to offer!

    Hello ,
You can simply Select the slides from the filmstrip and then copy and paste to new project .
If you also have a quiz result  slide in your project then you need to uncheck it while copying the slides , as you can not move quiz result slide of one project to other.
Once you copy the slides with quiz in it , quiz result slide will also get created in new project.
    Thanks and Regards

  • Unable to drag drop or copy/paste now under 10.5.1 !!

Since upgrading to 10.5.1 I can no longer copy/paste or drag/drop in the finder or other apps such as keynote!! First time around I re-installed leapord and all was fixed.. since software update has now re-upgraded the MacBook Pro to 10.5.1 again.. the issue has reappears.
Any advice or guidance on the cure appreciated..

This issue has plagued me for three days. I had an instance of Parallels Desktop running and it asked if I wanted to upgrade to a newer version. Selecting "Yes" initiated the process, but once the update package was downloaded, the VM application hung. A forced quit was required, which destabilized the System and required a reboot. Following the reboot, this exact problem arose.
Trashing the preferences indicated in this thread did not work.
Repairing permissions found an issue with the /tmp directory and suggested it was fixed.
Further research this morning revealed another thread covering another aspect of this topic. The suggestion to change the permissions for /tmp to "7771" solved the problem. Give that a try.
How the permissions on that directory were corrupted by an application crash is beyond me, but this seemed to solve my issues with copy/paste drag/drop; my inability to launch X11; and a video conversion problem I was experiencing. It makes sense though, as all of these anomalies were likely the result of an inability to create a temporary scratch file in that directory.

  • Lightroom 5.7 installed cannot cut

Just installed Lightroom 5.7 to my Win 7 laptop, cannot cut & paste text from any other application or web page to the caption box in library. Any one else having same problem? Open to other suggestions.

Technically speaking, there isn't a CC version of Lightroom. There is only one version of Lightroom, but it is licensed in different ways. One way is through the creative cloud, and that requires that you login to the creative cloud application manager with your Adobe ID and password. The other way is to purchase the standalone license and install it using the serial number that you will be provided. Other than that the programs are identical. Of course, the standalone version cannot function with the Lightroom mobile feature because that requires a creative cloud subscription.
Some will maintain that it isn't necessary to uninstall standalone Lightroom and then install from the creative cloud application manager. I chose to do it anyway. I uninstalled my Lightroom 5 standalone version and then installed from the application manager. As soon as the installation was complete, I double clicked on the desktop icon for Lightroom and was right back in my catalog that I had been using. There was no interruption whatsoever, and there was nothing that had to be compensated for or adjusted.
Installing Lightroom from the creative cloud application manager installs Lightroom and Photoshop locally on your hard drive. The creative cloud is accessed periodically to verify that your subscription is paid up to date. But other than that the programs function locally on your computer.

  • Faking Drag&Drop operation to external application

    Hello,
a rather complicated issue. in my program i have a JTable, and i can drag&drop from this jtable
to external programs like windows explorer by clicking the mouse and moving it from the table
    to the external program.
how can i reproduce this exact behaviour WITHOUT user intervention?
in other words, how can i do this programmatically, creating a drop source at the start point,
then move the mouse, and release it above a specified location on the screen?
is this even possible in java (as we're running in a VM) ?

    it has it's problems.
for example, if the drop point is above the source point, moving the mouse with the robot sometimes marks all entries in the table instead of performing a drag&drop operation. also, it seems that without a delay between the moves, strange things happen. so here is an updated version which workes 99% flawlessly for me.

    import java.awt.Point;

This procedure is a diagnostic test. It’s unlikely to solve your problem. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
The purpose of the test is to determine whether the problem is caused by third-party software that loads automatically at startup or login, by a peripheral device, by a font conflict, or by corruption of the file system or of certain system caches.
Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed for the test, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards, if applicable. Start up in safe mode and log in to the account with the problem. You must hold down the shift key twice: once when you turn on the computer, and again when you log in.
Note: If FileVault is enabled, or if a firmware password is set, or if the startup volume is a Fusion Drive or a software RAID, you can’t do this. Ask for further instructions.
Safe mode is much slower to start up and run than normal, with limited graphics performance, and some things won’t work at all, including sound output and Wi-Fi on certain models. The next normal startup may also be somewhat slow.
The login screen appears even if you usually login automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin.
Test while in safe mode. Same problem?
After testing, restart as usual (not in safe mode) and verify that you still have the problem. Post the results of the test.

Dragging and dropping text from one browser window to another also doesn't work, nor from one browser URL bar to another browser bar.
In sum, the most BASIC COPY/PASTING TEXT DOES NOT WORK AT ALL ANY LONGER!!!  Drag and drop ditto. Most frustrating!
Anybody else had this problem suddenly come upon them???  Suggestions, advice.

    ====================
p.s. btw restarting the mac or shutting down booting up doesn't get rid of the problem. Next I will try unplugging everything then reconnecting.
Haven't tried resetting PRAM yet. That will be my next and last resort.

Oops! I discovered yesterday that *the real problem with my keyboard was (is) a diagonal "row" of keys isn't functioning*!  Unfortunately, the four keys are 'c, d, e, and 3/#'; hence, losing the '⌘-c' or "copy" function.
Still, it helped some that I could employ the right-click with my wireless "magic mouse."
Fortunately I remembered this morning that I had a perfectly good UBS keyboard with keypad from my previous Mac.
A good learning experience! Thank you all for your help!!!   (:

  • New 16GB iTouch - cannot manually drag/drop songs

I just purchased a new 16GB iTouch this past wkd from the Apple store. (As background I have previously owned the 1st generation and latest iPod nanos). After reading some of the posts, I decided not to upgrade the software to v3.0.
I connected the iTouch to my computer, and it is recognized by iTunes. I unchecked any related "automatically sync" features and made sure that "manual sync" was turned on. However, I still cannot seem to "drag and drop" songs from my Music Library to my iTouch; I also cannot "drag and drop" any of my playlists. I have not even tried to bother with my photos. Also, please note, my iTunes works just fine with both of my iPods.
Please help!!! Am I having this problem b/c I am not upgrading the iTouch software to the new version?

roaminggnome - thanks for your quick reply. Apologies, I should have been more specific in my post. So that my songs would not be automatically synched, I had previously checked the box under devices/my ipod/summary/manually manage music" - I also had done so for both of my old iPods.
I already downloaded the manual and read thru a bunch of older posts and I could not find any reference to this "drag/drop" issue.

  • I want to take a voice memo off my iPhone, put it into iTunes Library and convert it to an .mp3.  How do I get the voice memos from my phone?  I can't seem to move them out of the Devices folder, no matter how much I try to copy and paste or drag and drop

I want to take a voice memo off my iPhone, turn it into and .mp3, and email it.  My iPhone shows up under "Devices" in my iTunes but doesn't allow me to move the voice memo files I see sitting there into my Library no matter how much copying and pasting or dragging and dropping I try to do.
Also, I need to convert the file to an .mp3.
How come no voice memo files show up when I go into my iPhone via My Computer?  All it shows are the videos and pictures in the DCIM folder, but not the voice memos.  Is there another way to access the voice memos other than through iTunes?

Email it to yourself, then save the file and then see if you can convert it to MP3.

  • In FX 8 (WinXP and Linux) I'm not able to change a route of the Google Maps routeplanner via drag&drop, the markers of start and destination don't appear and therefore cannot be moved, either.

Usually (IE, Firefox 7 and below) if you go along the blue line of a route planned by Google Maps, a small circle appears which can be dragged and dropped to other roads so that the routeplanner changes the route. This is impossible with Fx 8, the circle doesn't appear and when trying to drag&drop I only move the map. The same applies to the markers which mark the start and destination of the route, they are not visible and cannot be moved. Disabling Adblock and Firegestures didn't solve the problem.
When the page is loading for a moment you can see the symbol for an image which is not yet loaded both where the markers should be and if you go along the line with the mouse. As soon as the page is completely loaded you don't see this anymore.
