Cannot delete a draft email

Hello,
I am having trouble deleting an email saved as a draft. I have tried: editing and then delete, swiping the name of the email and delete, opening the email and using the trash can. Nothing works. As soon as I hit delete, the mailbox closes and I am sent to my home screen.
Any suggestions?
Thanks in advance,
Sue

On further examination .....
.... Drafts handling in Mail is totally hosed. Failure modes described above confirmed, plus several more. I have a fairly complete picture of how and when it fails, and have passed that along to Apple already. Below are quick notes on how you can deal with it for now. Caveat the following with the fact that it's only been tested with my MobileMe accounts.
A. If Mail is working correctly and you create a draft, do not try to delete that draft if it's the only one in the list. Bad things will result from either method of deletion.
B. Drafts #2 and onwards seem to cause no problems if they are deleted, using either method. Again, this assumes that Mail was operating correctly at the time the new draft was saved and, adgain, don't delete the top one.
C. Once Drafts moding is 'killed' it can die in any number of ways and may, or may not, crash Mail. Mail will then continue to run poorly for extended periods, and typically will not successfully save new drafts.
D. The single best indication of Mail running poorly will be a continual "Getting new mail" sort of message displayed at the bottom of the sidebar. You'll also notice when trying to save a draft that you will not see the normal spinning progress wheel appear momentarily at the top of the sidebar.
There are several different ways to regain normal Mail functioning., summarized as follows:
A. Force Quit the app, holding Home down with red OFF slider visible, or
B. Force Quit the app from the Recents List, or
C. Do a Hard Reset, following reset instructions in the User's Guide.
After doing this and re-opening Mail, you may see drafts which have disappeared re-appearing in a Compose window. They can now be saved to Drafts and it will work (note spinning progress wheel at top if sidebar).
Now, don't futz about with it. Just leave the draft there, the top one for sure, and all the rest of them just to be safe.

  • Cannot delete files after emailing them

Ever since I upgraded to Snow Leopard I cannot empty the trash if there is a file that I have added as an attachment in an email if Mail is still open. It will say the file is in use and I either have to quit Mail or Secure Empty Trash. This is really annoying. Anyone know of a fix? The file shouldn't be in use once it is sent in Mail. This never happened in previous versions of OSX. Also, if I have sent a file as an attachment I cannot save over it in the originating program because it is in use.

No, this is only for Mail. As soon as I add a file as an attachment then I cannot delete it without quitting mail or secure empty the trash. It isn't a data loss deterrent because you get that message making sure you want to delete it but when I say yes then it says the file is in use.
By the way, I shut off Time Machine for a day and then tried to delete a new file that I created after Time Machine was shut off that I added as an attachment to Mail and the same problem occurs. All other files that I do not add as an attachment in Mail I can delete with no problems.

How do I delete the draft?

Hi and Welcome to the Community!
Before opening the message, with the list of messages displayed, hold on the item you want to delete. The right-side menu will come in, with the last item being the trash can to delete it.
    Good luck!

  • Cannot delete or send email

Help I have spent countless hours and days trying to get my 3g phone to delete and send email. It will not do either. I have deleted the account and put it back on countless numbers of time. Tried every trick that is out there. Wifi on Wifi off, Stmp account on and off Sync'd to outlook and not to outlook,
I reset the entire phone, no help.
Why have this phone if I cannot get email? It just stopped working one day. Have deleted all the email from my outlook account on my laptop. I cannot delete one message from my phone. It returns like the living dead. I have been unable to send a message for weeks. In the middle of typing the screen just closes.

    Welcome to the discussions,
did you try to restore the phone "as new iphone" without using the backup to restore your settings? Your backup may contain corrupt files causing your problem.
After restoring to factory settings, replace the account info on your phone with the one on your PC during the next sync, using this option in the info pane, advanced section.

  • Cannot delete incoming & read emails, after one spam msg!

    Hi there,
I received a marketing message 3 times that I cannot delete.  In addition, ever since receiving this message, I cannot delete any of my incoming email messages now, nor move them into trash or junk. They keep coming all back.  Any advice is greatly appreciated as my inbox will overflow soon.
    Rose

    Hi,
First, You should quit Mail (I'm assuming that's what you're using from what it sounds like)
Second if that doesn't help, click "Window" > "Activity" check to see if there's a process going in there and you can stop the process.

  • [E2007][EWS][C#][Windows]: Cannot delete delayed delivery emails

I am using EWS to schedule delayed delivery emails in advance for a package management system. When a package is "logged" the system creates two delayed delivery emails, one 7 days out and one 14 days out to remind the package recipient they have a package
    waiting for pickup.
When the package is picked up the system is supposed to delete the scheduled emails. This is where I am having trouble.
It seems EWS does not allow you to delete a delayed delivery email - you must use a desktop Outlook client to do so. Can someone explain the logic behind this? Are there any plans for future support of deleting delayed emails through EWS?

EWS doesn't run against Outlook.  It runs against the Exchange Server.  Exchange Server has a copy of all the mailboxes that you see in everybody's outlook clients.  When you connect to a mailbox in EWS using the discovery service, you are
connecting to the copy of the email box that sits inside the server.
To connect to just the server without connecting to a mailbox, do the following:
//connect to the exchange server by server name
    ExchangeService service =
    new ExchangeService(ExchangeVersion.Exchange2007_SP1);
    service.Credentials =
    new WebCredentials(strAccount, strPassword, strDomain);
    service.Url =
    new Uri("https://" + strExchangeServer +
    "/ews/exchange.asmx");
The name of the exchange server is usually remote.yourEmailDomainName,  however, this could have been changed by your administrator.  You can usually find the name of the server by printing the service.Url of a connected
    mailbox.
Once you connect to the server, all the EWS commands work on objects outside of mailboxes

  • Apple Mail 4.5 won't delete 2 draft emails...

I am new to the forums, and wasn't sure where to put this so please advise if there is a better location.
I have looked all over the forum for this issue with no luck.
Issue is this - have 2 emails in the drafts folder that just won't delete.
Version info is 4.5 on OS X 10.6
Have tried to delete it from webmail but cannot see it there
    Cannot drag and drop it
And deleting just doesn't do anything at all - not even an error message.
Email is housed on an exchange server
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Sophie

I took very long time to rebuild. When it's done, the drafts are still there.

  • Cannot Delete or Move Emails from Printers - Error from emails with no body?

Exchange 2010 SP2 (one mailserver for domain)
    Outlook 2010
    Outlook 2013
    OWA
    EAS
We have several Konica-Minolta MFPs on our network. Users regularly use the e-mail function to receive PDF scans.  These e-mails cannot be deleted in Outlook, OWA, or EAS.
I have tested this on multiple users, including myself.  The e-mails and attachments can be any size, starting at 50kb.  Other e-mails with PDF attachments behave normally--just not these.
In Outlook 2010 I receive "The item cannot be deleted. It was either moved or already deleted, or access was denied."  I have verified with a MAPI viewer that these e-mails are sitting in the user's Inbox.
OWA gives the same error message as Outlook 2010.
In Outlook 2013 I receive a similar error, and an Event Log notice:
    Event 300
    Microsoft Outlook Unknown Error
    P1: 300032
    P2: 15.0.4420.1017
    P3: ajr8vP4: 0x80040119
    Source: Microsoft Office 15 Alerts
These e-mails cannot be deleted. They cannot be moved to another folder.
They can be Shift+Deleted.  They can be deleted via the MAPI viewer.  They can be opened, edited (Move > Actions > Edit Message) and if even one character is added to the body, after being saved they can be deleted as normal.
I have read many posts on TechNet and elsewhere:
A repair on the mailboxes does nothing. There are no PSTs.  This happens to even an empty mailbox, so size is not an issue. There are no host headers set in the bindings.  The IIS SSL Settings are ignoring Client Certificates. I have tested in Outlook
Safe Mode and without plugins. It is not Antivirus.
I have not reset the Virtual Directory, nor have I tested with a new Database.
I did find a solution: in all of the Konica-Minolta configurations, there was nothing set for a message body.  I think (but I am not sure) these e-mails were being sent without a body.
After I added text for the body, the emails behaved normally.
Is this an Exchange bug?  Is there something I can do to narrow the issue down, or adjust an Exchange setting so it doesn't happen again?
    Thanks all!

Thank you for your reply, Fiona!
As I stated, I have examined the messages with a MAPI viewer. I did not notice any attributes that seemed out of order, except for the fact that the problem e-mails seem to lack a body:
    Tag
    Property Name
    Konica: CAN'T Delete
    Konica: CAN Delete
    Normal Message
    0x1000000A
    PR_BODY
    Scan from Konica-BW
    Err:Not Enough Memory
    0x1013000A
    PR_BODY_HTML
    Err:Not Enough Memory
    0x10160003
    PR_NATIVE_BODY_INFO
    0 (Undefined)
    1 (Plaintext)
    3 (HTML)
    0x1009000A
    PR_RTF_COMPRESSED
    Err:Not Enough Memory
    Err:Not Enough Memory
    0x0E1F000B
    PR_RTF_IN_SYNC
    TRUE
    TRUE
    FALSE
I've compared the three e-mails. The "Konica: CAN Delete" is one from after I changed the Konica settings to include a message body (which was "Scan from Konica-BW").
My next planned steps are to speak to Konica, roll back RU6 and test, or just wait to see if MS releases a patch for the RU6 issue and see if it resolves my issue as well.
If you have any further suggestions of things to look for, I am all ears. :)
    Thanks again!

  • Cannot delete or move emails and outgoing emails not saving to SENT box half the time. CAUSED by AVAST internet security.

Often, though not always, when I open THUNDERBIRD I'm not able to delete or move messages. I need to close the program and reopen. Similarly, when sending emails, sometimes things works smoothly and sometimes they hang up on saving to the SENT box. Apparently they DO get sent but I can't keep a copy. If I close and reopen, then it works as it should.
I'm running Windows 8.1, AVAST internet security, and Thunderbird 24.3.

Jim, Hopefully one of the Thunderbird experts will be along soon (I don't use Thunderbird) but before uninstalling Avast you may want to check the [http://forum.avast.com Avast forums] to see if other Windows 8 users are reporting Thunderbird issues. I did a search there and found:

  • Can't delete multiple draft emails with Mavericks

I have the problem of Mail saving multiple drafts of my emails on the server. The threads for users earlier versions of OS X, suggest that the solution is to uncheck the 'Store draft messages on the server' option, in the Mail account preferences. However, I find that since upgrading to Mavericks it isn't possible to do this permanently - I uncheck the box and save the change, and when I next look, the box has been rechecked without my doing anything.
I notice one other person using Mavericks reports the same problem - has anyone any suggestions how to resolve this?

I found the answer on another thread - works perfectly - Steve Rhyne has the answer:  https://discussions.apple.com/message/23500944#23500944

I have exactly the same problem on a 3-week old 3GS. Started yesterday after 3 weeks of trouble free use. Have tried everything suggested in this forum but problem still exists - can't delete old email, can't read new e-mail, resorts back to main screen after about 10 seconds showing all mail still there (even if I do manage to delete a couple before it crashes) and no "Sent" or "Trash" boxes anymore.
I too have the new 3.1 software AND was OK until I had MailDaemon return an incorrectly addressed e-mail!

  • Cannot Delete Scan To Email Address on Officejet Pro 8600

I created an email address from the Officejet 8600 control panel for scan to email. I also created two other email addresses by accessing the embedded web server in the Officejet 8600.  All three email addresses appear using the 8600 control panel, but the one I created from the control panel is not lised in the E-Mail Address Book when I use  a browser to access the embedded web server.
How can I delete the one I entered from the control panel on the printer?

    Hey dutch55,
Have you tried power cycling all the devices involved to see if the email setup with the Control Panel of the printer will show up in the list under the EWS?
    Unplug the router while on
    Wait 30 seconds
Plug router back up and wait for it to completely power up
    Restart PC
    Unplug printer while on
    Wait 30 seconds
Plug printer back up for power
If this still does not get the desired results, then the next best option is going to be to reset this printer to a factory state.  This will remove all input data and settings you may have put in the printer.  This will also remove the setup you have established for scan to email and will have to be re-setup.  I wanted to let you know this beforehand, but this should get you the results you are looking for.  I will send the steps to perform this reset in a private message.  Before performing the steps please read Bob_Headrick's thread on printer resets, found here.

Check if software update is available for your iPod.  You can find software under your settings.  Check if everything works after you successfully install the software update.
