Cannot delete addresses in address Book

I cannot delete addresses in My Address Book ? When Deleting... a box appears advising you that this is permanent however when you acknowledge this the box remains and the only way out is to quit Address Book ?? Very frustrating any ideas ... thanks.. (I do have a mobile me account which I would like to Sync with but this is not working either...)

I am having this similar issue and have searched all over to find the answer. Here are my details of the issue (to see if this is the same issue)
Open Address Book
I see that the Exchange account has the "sync spinng grey wheel"
I disconnect the internet (turn off airport; no ethernet plugged in)
---Also the grey spinning wheel never stops
I go to Preferences
I select the Exchange Account
I select the "-" icon to delete the account
I get the confirmation message "Are you sure want to remove ____ from Address Book?"
I click on "Delete"
Address Book freezes and stays unresponsive for over 10mins
---After that time i force quite via "Force Quite Applications"
Open Address Book again and i am back at the beginning: Exchange account is still there and still trying to sync.
I think if i could figure out how to Terminal kill that Address Book process then i would be able to delete the account.
Please help me resolve this issue because the Exchange account trying to sync has made the Address Book application VERY SLOW. Meaning that as i type words Address Book posts them a few seconds after they have been typed.

  • Cannot Delete Address Book Contacts

I can't seem to delete some address book contacts. When I open the address book all my contacts show. But, there is no "plus" or "minus" sign anywhere in the window so I can't use them to highlight a name and simply hit "minus" to delete a name. When I right click on the name the only options it gives me are "edit card" and "export vcard". Even if I choose "edit", nothing happens. When I hightlight a name and just hit the delete or backspace key, again, nothing happens. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

I'm having what seems to be exactly the same problem. The only thing I've discovered, if it will help someone solve this for us, is that the problem only affects one user. I have another administrator user and a guest standard user; both of them can edit, add,etc in their own Address book. I've tried everything I can think of, except for reinstalling the OS.
    Thanks.

  • HT2500 delete address book entries

How do you delete address book entries?

    Welcome to Apple Support Communities.
With Address Book open, select the entry to be deleted in the Name (middle) column by clicking on it.
Now select Edit, Delete Card from the top menubar.
The option to delete a card does not appear unless a card is selected first.

  • Why can't I edit or delete Address Book "On My Mac" or sync with iCloud?

Why can't I edit or delete Address Book cards on my Macs, now that I've migrated to iCloud?  I can edit/delete if I go to iCloud, but the changes don't sync with my Macs.  What's happening, and what's a solution?  Just wait for Apple to fix a bug?

On your mac, if your look at the left panel of the Address Book, you'll find general categories of "iCloud" and possibly "On my mac" - if you have contacts in the latter, then they are only local to your mac, they are not shared with iCloud.  If you don't have an "iCloud" category, then your mac(s) is not set up of iCloud.  Go to system preferences and look in iCloud.  Is the mac signed into iCloud, are contacts turned on for syncing?

only way is to restore the phone as new.  OR wait until IOS 7 comes out in the fall.

  • Deleted Address Book - HELP!

I accidentally deleted Address Book. I was moving it to my Dock and missed, so it went to the desktop, then I put it on the dock and deleted it from my desktop. Aparently, that was the program and not a duplicate. Is there any way I can download it or pull it off one of the installation CDs?

You should be able to load it from your installation DVD as one of the optional installations.

  • Accidentally deleted address book

hi , am running leopard on a mac mini and accidentally deleted the address book program that was moved to the desktop from the applications folder and hiding behind the dock .
Time machine wasn't set up to backup any data yet , and i'm afraid the entire address book has been lost . Just before the trash was emptied , there were numerous updates performed thru software update , for the iwork and ilife suites , and the computer has been restarted one time . I had also reinstalled the 10.5.1 update . is there any way to retrieve the deleted address book without having to use 3rd party software like pacifist to pull a new copy of address book from the leopard install disc and rebuild it from scratch ?

    Not that I know of.
However, you only lost the application.
You apparently did not loose all the information.
The information is located in Users/Home/Library/Application Support/AddressBook folder.
If that AddressBook folder is still there, then so is all of your information.

  • Cannot open address book...

something has happen to my address book. every time I try to open, I get a dialogue box "cannot open address book because it is not supported on this architecture.' please help.

    One thing at a time.
A media file in an email. What type of a file? Was the email from a trusted source?
Unfortunately WMA and WMV files CAN carry malicious code in them (viruses-like). They SHOULD NOT affect the OS X, but the world is spinning fast...
The app icon - I meant go to the Applications folder, find the Address Book application and click on it one to select it.
COMMAND + i - Command is the key next to the space bar (the one with a "clover" type of a symbol and command written at the bottom). Hold the Command key and tap "i" - this shows the Info box, and General is at the very top.
    Keep us posted please.

  • Delete Address Book entries

I've been trying to find out, whether with Automator or AppleScript, how to delete specific contacts from Address Book and am not having any luck. My ultimate goal is to back up 10 specific vCards and then delete them. I've gotten Automator to export the vCards of 10 people, but that's where I get stuck. Automator doesn't seem to have any actions that delete cards. I've tried Google for AppleScript on deleting Address Book cards but I really can't find anything. I can't even find a list of what actions I can use with AppleScript on Address Book. Any help would be appreciated.

  • Unable to delete Address Book File

I am unable to delete nor copy over an Address Book file that I have on an external HD connected via Airport Extreme. When I connect the HD directly to my Macbook Pro, I am able to delete the file - but not via Airport Extreme. When I attempt to delete the file, I get a message from Trash as follows: The operation cannot be completed because the item "Metadata" is in use. Same message when I attempt to replace the file with a new file. In other words, I am unable to use AE to transfer my Address Book file to my external HD, unless I change the name of the file. What is going on here?

    Hello Bob.
You may be having a problem with some Firefox add-on that is hindering your Firefox's normal behavior. Have you tried disabling all add-ons (just to check), to see if Firefox goes back to normal?
Whenever you have a problem with Firefox, whatever it is, you should make sure it's not coming from one of your installed add-ons, be it an extension, a theme or a plugin. To do that easily and cleanly, run Firefox in [http://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/Safe+Mode safe mode] and select ''Disable all add-ons''. If the problem disappears, you know it's from an add-on. Disable them all in normal mode, and enable them one at a time until you find the source of the problem. See [http://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/Troubleshooting+extensions+and+themes this article] for information about troubleshooting extensions and theme. You can troubleshoot plugins the same way.
If you want support for one of your add-ons, you'll need to contact its author.

  • IPhone cannot sync address book, "too many flushes" in console

Hello, ran into this recently and its driving me nuts. I've restored the phone twice, without restoring a backup, setting it up as a new phone each time.
It'll sync everything else fine but not this. I have reset the sync history in isync, deleted my address book completely (I have a backup of it) yet iTunes still shows the old groups under the info tab. I've double checked that I am the owner on the permissions page of the mail/ical/itunes/etc.... folders in %users/Library. Repaired permissions. I'm running out of things to check.
Whenever I try to sync this is the information that can be found in the Console. I've deleted preferences, i'm almost ready to completely blow itunes away and re-import/re-rate my itunes library from scratch!

I also cannot sync anything from the Info tab, contacts, calendars, can't replace the data either. If I enable iCal syncing it just hangs on the sync and doesn't error out. it'll stay syncing contacts for over 12 hours so far with no change.

After running sudo chown -R rr152510 SyncServices/ from terminal I received the same errors. So either its not following through the sub-directories and changing the owner, or its something else. Gonna try it from the root user, though sudo should have given me permissions to do anything I wanted.

  • Where do my deleted Address Book contacts go??

I'm on an exchange server running snow leopard.
I cannot find where the address book app is putting the deleted contacts and folders....
    Does anyone know?
I've checked the two logical places, mail trash and the main trash.... no luck.

There are a couple of options.
For the whole computer, you can set up an [Open Firmware password|http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1352]. Follow the same instructions as 10.5. Search for more info on Open Firmware password and what recourses you have if you forget the password.
You can secure your entire home folder using FileVault (Security System Prefs), but that comes with a few headaches. I don't use it, so I can't offer any advice. It will encrypt you Home folder when you log out so nobody can get to your data without the password, even if the computer is stolen. Time Machine waits until you log out to back up your home folder. This would never work for me.
Also on the Security System Prefs is an option to require a password at wake from Sleep or Screen Saver.
You can set your keychain password different for your account so that it doesn't automatically unlock at login. You can also set the keychain to lock after a period of inactivity using the Keychain Access program--Edit>Change settings for Keychain "login"…
While someone can change your login password using the install disk, that won't change your keychain password, so that info will remain locked.
In the Keychain Access Preferences, you can show the status in the menu bar. From that menu you can Lock the Screen, Your keychain, or all keychains.

  • How To Reinstall Deleted Address Book App?

I foolishly deleted the Address Book application after updating to 10.9, and I want it back.
The solutions I've found all involve reinstalling the OS from an install disc, which is not an option for Macbook Airs like mine.
I redownloaded the 10.8 install image, but it gives me this error on open: "OS X 10.8 cannot be installed on this computer."
Help me, Obi Wan. You're my only hope.

@mende1, donktar only wants to get a deleted app back, reverting the entire OS is overkill don't you think!?
'Address book', are you sure it wasn't called 'Contacts'? Why are you attempting to install it from 10.8? It exists in 10.9 but is called Contacts. Address book had a name change in 10.7 or 10.8 IIRC.
You should be able to install 10.9 'in place' so it restores the default apps. Just make sure you don't erase the HD once running from the installer.
Another option is to use Pacifist to extract it from the installer packages - http://charlessoft.com. I'm not sure if anyone has located which package it is stored inside for 10.9, but if you are willing to do some exploring it will be somewhere inside "Install OS X Mavericks.app/Contents/SharedSupport/InstallESD.dmg"
Use the Finders right click Menu > Show package contents… to find & open the InstallESD.dmg and then start
looking at the packages in Pacifist. You can extract the contents to restore the apps, I don't recommend restoring older versions of apps to newer OS's.

  • Accidentally deleted address book 'On My Mac'

I had brain **** yesterday and accidentally deleted the information for the address book account "On My Mac". I have scoured the web but cannot find a way to restore the account information.
The contact book is still working and I can create new entries for a Google address book that is still there. When I go to the Accounts and select 'On My Mac' it's empty. See below
Can anyone help to restore this default address book?
    OS X 10.9.2
    Macbook Pro Retina

The On My Mac Address Book does not sync to anything. You can move items from the On My Mac Address Book to one of the Address Books like Google, iCloud, Yahoo, AOL.
Let's say you have an Exchange, iCloud, Google and Yahoo account and select to sync their Address Book with Contacts.app. While you would be able to see each listed they are independent and do not sync to the other address books. You can move items from one to another but they only sync to their respective Address Books.
I see one of your Google accounts is inactive. Select that account and enter your password or two-step authentication code.
If there are no contacts in On My Mac it won't show up. Apple chooses not to show items if there is nothing in them. For example in Mail, if you have no Draft messages you won't see a drafts folder until you actually save a message. Once it's added it will stay there even if there are not messages. Same for Flags, VIP, Spam etc.
    Does this help?
