  • Why a Apple RAID controller card cannot delete a RAID set?

    Hi,
I just have a problem with my RAID set created with RAID Utility.  My configuration is as follows:
         Mac Pro (early 2009 model) 2 x 2.66GHx Quad-Core, 16GB DDR3 1066Mhz Memory
Apple RAID Card (HW Ver 2.00 and FW Ver E-1.3.20)
1 x 1TB HD (Apple original) in Bay 1 as boot disk configured as Enhanced JBOD
3 x 2TB HD (WD black series RE) in Bay 2 to Bay 4 configured as RAID 5
         Mac OS 10.7.4
The RAID Utility showed the following messages:
Degraded RAID set RS2 - No spare available for rebuild
Degraded RAID set RS2 - No spare available for rebuild
    Degraded RAID set RS2
Drive 3:50014ee20352f5e8 missing - Previous drive status was inuse
Drive 3:50014ee20352f5e8 failure detected - Primary disk port unusable, previous drive status was inuse
    Furthermore, RAID Utility shows:
    1)  Bay 1 (RS1 boot drive):  Assigned, verified, Status good. viable (good)
    2)  Bay 2 (RS2 RAID 5):  Assigned, verified, Status good, viable (degraded)
    3)  Bay 3 (RS2 RAID 5):  Roaming, verified, Status good
    4)  Bay 4 (RS2 RAID 5):  Assigned, verified, Status good, viable (degraded)
It also showed "Severe Events" message:  "Degraded RAID set RS2 - No spare available for rebuild."
I tried to delete the RAID set using Apple RAID Utility but nothing happened.  Can anyone help as I have to rebuild the RAID set from scratch?  Thanks.

I have swapped the drives in bays and it is always bay 2. I'm coming to the conclusion that either the RAID card is failing in bay 2 or there is a Lion / Mountain Lion issue with the RAID card.
I would say this is not "a Lion / Mountain Lion issue with the RAID card", as I have an "Early 2009 Mac Pro" that is running Snow Leopard (10.6.8), fully patched, that is exhibiting a similar issue, after about 4 years of no such problems.
My RAID configuration is just like yours: 4x 2TB drives, with Bays 1 & 2 as RAID 1 and Bays 3 & 4 also as RAID 1.  I keep losing either Bay 1 or Bay 2 disk, and after reboot typically see it as a good disk, in the green, but now unassigned to a RAID set, and marked as "Roaming".  When I assign it as a spare, so far the RS1 RAID Set begins to rebuild, and things are okay for a short while.
Initially this happened about once a month, starting about 3 months ago, now it is a weekly or several times weekly event.
I've put in new disks (several), restored from a Time Machine backup, and just came in today to find the Bay 2 disk "Roaming".....
I'm going to try a new Mac Pro RAID card, as I have a spare - just looking for information about whether the replacement RAID card will pick up the RAID sets from info cached on the disks (I hope!), or whether I have to newly create the RAID Sets & Volumes, and then re-populate from Time Machine / the old disks.
I will say that I've been running 8  "Early 2008 Mac Pro" computers with RAID cards, each configured as above, and 4 "Early 2009 Mac Pro" computers similarly configured. These were all deployed between late 2008 and the beginning of 2010.  I've had little difficulty with them, and they've been wonderful when an actual disk failure has occurred.  I've had about 6 actual disk failures among all these setups.
    cheers!

  • How can I turn off clock alarm sound

I have several clock alarms set for daily or weekly recurrences (picking up kids, etc). They work great, and are very easy to set up and use. The only problem is that there seems to be no way to easily turn them off.
When I use the ring silencer, it does not disable these alarms. I can turn the ringer volume all the way down, which keeps them pretty quiet, but they don't actually get turned off completely.
This means that if I'm in a situation where I don't want my phone to make noise, I need to power it off completely. Is there not a way to either:
    1) disable alarm notices
    2) turn off the volume for these alarms?
I understand why Apple may not want these alarms disabled by the silencer switch, but they need to have an easily implemented alternative.

I only use the alarm clock to wake me up - I don't want that silent!  For everything else, I use calendar alarms - these just vibrate when the phone is in silent mode.  The built in calendar is a bit rubbish, I recommend iKoyomi2: http://phobos.apple.com/WebObjects/MZStore.woa/wa/viewSoftware?id=377326047&mt=8 &u1=web&affId=1860684

  • Nokia E51 - Can't set clock alarm tone

    Hey there people!
My device is Nokia E51, and for some, bizarre reason, I can't set the clock alarm tone.
When I choose the sub-menu "Clock alarm tone" a list of songs/audio files on the phone is supposed to load.... but nothing there. The phone doesn't even give me any options to choose from. I actually find this quite frustrating and annoying because I'm trying to do something very basic here.
    I've attached a capture.
    Thanks for helpers.

Well the reason I asked about the large number of audio files is because it appears to be a common bug across many of nokias phones.   When you have a large number of audio files (either on the card or on the phone itself) the phone apparently gets 'confused' and is unable to load up the selection of ringtones or music files to use as a ringtone.
The only solutions would be to either:
    1)  Delete songs until the ringtone menu goes back to normal
    2)  Do what you have done with copying it to the phone then removing the memory card to be able to select the file.. then reinsert the memory card
Nokia just needs to get their act together. They should seperate ringtones from the music files.  This way when you go to select a ringtone.. it will ask to either choose a ringtone from a list.. or to select one of your mp3s from a list. This way keeping it seperate.  But that would be extra menus to navigate and people probably wouldnt like it.
But if they did it that way then they could use the mp3 listings by album, artist, song title, etc to allow people to choose the music files they want as a ringtone.  It would be easier to do that then continually scroll through huge lists

    It still didn't work...
Within this commonfiles\apple folder, there is only one folder, labeled "Internet Services." Within this folder, there are 6 folders, labeled:
    APLZOD.resources
    BookmarkDAV_client.resources
    CoreDAV.resources
    iCloud.resources
    iCloudServices.resources
    ShellStreams.resources
Within all but CoreDAV and BookmarkDAV_client, there are multiple different folders, all labeled starting with a two letter (acronym I believe, for different languages) then .lproj (for example, a folder is labeled "ar.lproj".
In each of the folders of APLZOD.resources, there is a file labeled "APLZODlocalized.dll."
In all of the folders containing the multiple .lproj folders, there are likewise "name"localized.dll files contained.
In the BookmarkDAV_client and Core DAV folders, they each contain only one file, "Info.plist"
I attempted to delete all of these files, and still, the FileAssassin could not delete them. I unlocked one of them for instance, and I tried to delete the file myself (thru windows explorer and just clicking delete), and I still had the same issue of coming eventually to the window requesting me to "try again" to have permission.
What can I do?? I'd like to avoid Unlocker, but if it really is a reliable and SAFE program, and someone knows a SAFE place to download it from, I'd appreciate it very much so!!
    thanks!!

  • Alarm clock not working in iOS 7 with multiple alarms set.

I usually have two alarms set on my phone, both using the stock clock app.  One about an hour before I need to get up (so I can turn the heater on and crawl back under the covers), the other for the time I am supposed to get up.  The second alarm works just fine, but the fist one has not gone off for several days.  They are not recurring alarms because I need to change the time each day due to my work schedule.
The phone is *usually* in a speaker dock which is plugged into the wall, and works just fine for the purpose of playing my second alarm or any of my music.  When not in the dock, it is still plugged in to the charger but uses the built in speakers.
Has anyone else had this problem, or does anyone know of a possible fix?

I've looked in other folders and screens and can't locate it.  I understand that there are apps that can't be deleted and this is one of them....I've tried several ways to locate it and can't.

If the shows are in fact still on the pad, they will be found in the videos app, not the music or I tunes app.  Look there and see if they are still there.
If you don't see them there, go to the searchlight screen ( farthest left home page) and type in the name of one of the shows.  If it is on the pad, hiding somewhere, this will find it.
If they are not there, they should not be using up space.
To get them back onto your pad, plug in and sync again.  Make sure you transfer purchases first.   Before you sync, take a look at the video tab in your I tunes, and check what you want and don't want synced.

Have an 'other' email set up on iPhone 4s; cannot delete or move messages from inbox. Help?

    Try resetting the iPhone,
Reset your iPhone by pressing the 'Sleep' and 'Home' button at the same time for about 15 seconds or so. Your iPhone will then go through a reset / reboot procedure and will be ready for use within about a minute.
Don't worry about doing this as you will not lose data or settings.
If the does not work then delete that email account and set it up again,
Settings > Mail > select the account > delete account.
Take a note of the account settings before doing this to help you set it up again.

Don't know anything about McAffe Enterprise Server, but if your employer is preventing you from using iCloud backup there's really no way to use it without removing this from your phone.  Unless you can convince the IT guys to make an exception.

  • Have transferred a set of photos from sd card to ipad.  It has copied them twice and now I cannot delete one copy.  Any ideas?

Can anyone help me please.  I have transferred a set of photos from an sd card onto my ipad.  It worked but somehow transferred them twice.  When I try to delete one set, or even try to do each one at a time, it says all copies will be deleted.  Is there any way of deleting just one set, or do I have to start again?

Probably best to delete both copies and then reimport one copy.

  • Deleting orphaned alarm

I have been using a Nokia N97 for the past two years, and it has recently started sounding an alarm at the same time every night. There is no dialogue box to delete the alarm, and no alarms are set for that time in either the clock or calendar applications.
I have tried resetting the phone time to a different time, but the alarm still sounds at the same actual time each night. That suggests the alarm is initiated by a network command or setting, as network time is used not the reset phone time.
I have also tried a full hard reset on the N97, and reformatted the mass storage. Any applications used were downloaded again from Ovi store or the supplier so that I did not risk reimporting the alarm.
Two weeks ago I upgraded to the E7. The alarm has "jumped" from the N97 to the E7, so presumably is associated with my number not with the handset. Alternatively it is in synchronised calendar or ToDo entries, as I synchronise to MS Outlook using MfE, however I can see no obvious entries, and there is no equivalent alarm sounding on my laptop at that time.
Initially the same SIM card was used, but that has now been upgraded by the network operator. The alarm still sounds. I have also tried turning the phone off just before the usual time, but the alarm still sounds (as is the case for scheduled alarms).
At the network operator's suggestion I also tried removing the SIM card while leaving the phone on. Alarm still sounds, so it is clearly not a SIM card problem.
I understand from discussion on another forum that it is possible to reset all alarms by deleting the alarmserver.ini file which controls all alarms; the file is then rebuilt when the phone restarts. This file is presumably in the Private folder however as it cannot be found using file manager applications.
I am reluctant to reset a new phone, then having to restore all settings. The fact that this did not work on the N97 also suggests this is unlikely to cure the problem. The network techs are looking at this, but if anyone has any suggestions, or can provide advice on deleting the alarmserver.ini file, it would be appreciated.
    Many thanks.

Many thanks for the suggestion. There are a couple of old phones around so I'll charge them up and try switching the SIM.
One of the frustrations is that the "alarm" seems to be on a 24 hour repeat cycle, driven from the network clock not the handset clock (or perhaps the internal system clock), so changing the time and date does not work.  This also means I have to wait 24 hours each time to try each new solution.
Also, I have now discovered that setting the phone profile to "Silent" also does not work - the alarm still sounds at the scheduled time. Since it also sounds when the phone is turned off, and when the SIM is removed, but the phone is left on, I actually have no way of suppressing the alarm during (for example) a meeting or a flight. The only option is to bury the phone deeply in my bag to muffle the sound.
So, still looking for suggestions, before I approach the network (where I bought the phone) to swap for a new untainted one.

  • How do I delete an alarm?

I've tried to look up how to delete an alarm on an iPod, but they were all showing me the simple way of doing so (when your iPod actaully works). When I go to clock and choose alarm, no alarms show up, but I have 2 set. How do I delete these when they don't show up as options?

    - Try a reset. Nothing is lost./
Reset iPod touch: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Reset all settings
Go to Settings > General > Reset and tap Reset All Settings.
All your preferences and settings are reset. Information (such as contacts and calendars) and media (such as songs and videos) aren’t affected.
    - Restore the iPod.

  • Clock: alarm function not going on at right time!

Just updated from iOS 4.0.2 to 4.1 but now I'm having the following problems with the alarm functions:
    1. Alarm does not start if phone is switched off now
    2. Alarms set are starting 1hr earlier than the set time.
Currently Sydney changed to daylight savings, but the clock time is fine. Tried deleting and reinputting but still doesn't work. If I'm just testing the alarm function by setting a few minutes ahead, it goes at right time...
    Anyone help?

It's a bug affecting people in Australia and New Zealand. Apparently it is due to be fixed very soon in a firmware update.
