Cannot Delete Flash9.ocx

I am attempting to remove an old windows installation from an
old hard drive. It is no longer in use; I have a brand new
installation on a different hard drive. I have deleted all the
files except those found in system32/macromed. How do I delete
these files?

Ah, figured it out. One must change the owner of the file to
the current one (or an appropriate group, such as "administrators")
under the "Security" tab, under the file's properties (accessed
when one right-clicks the file). One must also have appropriate
permissions (such as "full") to alter/delete the file.
I had forgotten how to enable the security tab, as its option
is cryptically named. It would be wonderful if the people who wrote
XP weren't obscurantists. Of course, it would also be pretty nice
if Adobe didn't think it was okay to set exclusive read/write
permissions on my own G-D computer. But c'est la vie.
If you'd like to know more about the security tab on Windows
XP Pro, or ways around this for XP Home, try this link:

  • Can't delete Flash9.ocx

While trying to solve some Flash/IE installation problems, I
have discovered that I can't delete the following file:
    C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\Macromed\Flash\Flash9.ocx
I've tried safe mode, "move on boot", BartPE, and nothing
will get rid of this file. The read only attribute is set and
cannot be changed....does anybody have any ideas as to what might
    be causing this?
    Thanks,
    Rob

Until I installed Flash 9 I've had no browser issues that I
could attribute to the earlier version (8) of the flash player I
used. However since initial install in mid-August, that's no longer
    the case.
The first indication was a persistent message window re:
"flash9.ocx' file" while online gaming at the Pogo (EA) game site.
The url is www.pogo.com; but I have a member signon so I'm not sure
the error scenario can be reproduced explicitly. It did not crash
IE and I could just click "OK" and the game would continue.
Sometimes message would show up after I logged off. I was able to
browse other websites without encountering any flash errors and/or
browser crashes. Approximate error message: "Internet Explorer has
    encountered a problem. File : Flash9.ocx"
I created a win/checkpoint prior to installing the Flash 9
player, so I went back and restored. No relief just stranger stuff
-- the win/restore obviously does not back off the player.
I no longer get the weird messages on Pogo but other sites
    that exhibit the following scenario:
    Flash content won't display;
Website displays Macromedia button & instructions to
    update to latest version;
    Clickable link to Macromedia (
    http://www.adobe.com/shockwave/download/download.cgi?P1_Prod_Version=ShockwaveFlash).
    (Specific url prompting download:
    http://www.zillow.com/search/Search.htm?citystatezip=85025&mode=browse)
I did bite the bullet and re-install the player (after
    another checkpoint) but the above error at Zillow persists;
regardless of win/restore. I still see the same information on the
player version, file locations, file names, and file versions.
The Adobe browser test for the Flash player version I'm using
    shows: 9.0.16.0.
The flash.ocx files (v 6.0.79.0) are in both folder locations
    (Windows\ServicePackFiles\i386 and
    Windows\System32\Macromed\Flash).
The flash9.ocx file (9.0.16.0) is in the right location too.
My OS is winxp/home(sp2); browser is IE 6.0; maintenance is
    current-to-date.
I'll proceed with your advice regarding the uninstall but I
hope a Macromedia-supplied solution arrives soon -- even after
clearing cache, temp, etc. there appears to be some sort of version
conflict going and it effects browser performance.

  • Cannot delete Flash32_11_6_602_180.ocx from an old system disk

Hi, I am running a Windows 8 64 bit system with the most current version of Flash installed, whatever that is, since I blindly accept whatever update Adobe sends to me.  My problem is that I cannot delete the Flash32_11_6_602_180.ocx file from an old system disk where I have deleted everything else in the Windows folder except the Flash32_11_6_602_180.ocx file.
I have seen very similar posts by Krischu on November 27, 2013 "Cannot delete/remove Flash32_11_9_900_117.ocx" and by Gdstuart on January 22, 2014 "How to delete Flash32_11_9_900_170,ocx," and I have tried the "takeown" method and the FileASSASSIN method suggested by MikeM to both of those posts, but my Flash.ocx file just won't go away.
I am the only user of this PC, and my user account describes me as an administrator, but I keep getting the "You need to provide admistrator permission to delete this file" when I try to delete it.
Does anyone know how to delete this file without doing what Krischu did by loading a Ubuntu system?
    Thanks for any thoughts!

Well Pat, I definitely do filter what Microsoft tries to load on my system, for example, their insistence in trying to sneak in Bing. Either way, I keep my system up to date constantly.
Do you understand that the file I am dealing with is on a separate disk from my system disk? I don't see any way that the OS would automatically delete files that are not part of the current OS.
I took the disks from my old PC and installed them inside of my new PC. The old system was Windows 7 32 bit, and my new system is Windows 8 64 bit.  As I said, there is only one user on my new system, me, and I am the administrator, so there is no "original Windows Administrator password" other than the one that I use every day. The only thing that I can think of is that the file is linked to my old admin user name from the W7 system, but even if that is the case, then why wouldn't  the "takeown" method give me ownership?

  • Error message: cannot find flash.ocx

After receiving a POP UP for a free Adobe Flash Player I
choose to install it. Since then I get at least 50 POP UP messages
saying the same thing..(I have to "X" out of them to continue
processing) "Cannot find flash.ocx" - how do I either fix it or
    delete it.

This has been a problem for quite a while in our company and it's pretty much an everyday occurrence.
We have around 500+ that get the exact same error: cannot find flash.ocx
The work around we use is to copy the Flash.ocx file from one PC that still has it and paste it into the C:\WINDOWS\system32\Macromed\Flash directory of the PC that has the problem.
In our case renaming the current updated file Flash10d.ocx to Flash.ocx also works but this may not work for you.
Now the two work arounds above are fine but as soon as adobe has an update the file is once again replaced with the latest updated file! And you have to perform the work around again.
You can see what the update does by looking at the install.log file located in the same directory. It’s just a text file so you can view it in Notepad C:\WINDOWS\system32\Macromed\Flash
Bellow is a snipet of log file:
IfFileExists: file "C:\WINDOWS\system32\Macromed\Flash\UninstFl.exe" does not exist, jumping 948
IfFileExists: file "" does not exist, jumping 952
    Delete: "C:\WINDOWS\system32\Macromed\Flash\Flash.ocx"
    Delete: "C:\WINDOWS\system32\Macromed\Flash\Flash6.ocx"
    Delete: "C:\WINDOWS\system32\Macromed\Flash\Flash6a.ocx"
The bellow does not work but interesting at that:
I did try editing the screen saver file directly to point it to a different directory, in which I would then place the Flash.ocx file but unfortunately although the .scr file can be viewed in Notepad, making a change to the file will destroy it. Please make a backup of the file first if you want to see whats inside. You can use Ctl + F to search for Flash.ocx etc..
Although not really a hindrance in day to day work screen burning could potentially be an issue!
    Hope this helps someone.
    Thanks,
    Simon

  • Flash9e.ocx

    Hi guys
Does anyone know anything about a Flash9e.ocx error message
that keeps crashing my browser in IE7 and Firefox? I've seen some
posts here before about this topic but I can't seem to find them
    now.
Some people were suggesting that it was a bug in Flash Player
and that reinstalling Flash might help. I uninstalled my current
version, rebooted and reinstalled, and get the same problem. I get
the message: Internet Explorer has encountered an error and needs
to close and lists Flash9e.ocx as the add-on running when the
    problem occurred.
Anyone got any workarounds? Has Adobe recognised this problem
as a bug? There's an awful lot of people having the same problem at
a games site: Miniclip.com. The game is called Anagrammatic. If I
log in to play the game and then navigate to the Games Forum page
my browser crashes instantly every time. Anyone know what's going
    on?
Any assistance would be very much appreciated. Willing to try
editing the registry etc etc. Anything that might work. PS I rolled
back to Flash 8 and tried to play the game and an ActiveX control
immediately upgrades me back up to Version 9. So no joy there
    either!
Is this the buggiest site on the planet or is Flash 9 the
    problem?
    Any help appreciated.

  • Flash9.ocx weirdness

Surprise, surprise, Flash 9 doesn't install properly. Well,
it does on Firefox, but not on IE or for the Sony package used to
capture images off Sony cameras.I uninstalled IE7 and went back to
IE6. I've tried setting all the Internet opitons to allow ActiveX
content. I've checked the antivirus and popup blokcer settings.
I've tried all the recommended fixes, short of major surgery on the
registry. I've deleted the Safe Versions folder. I've uninstalled
and reinstalled, with and without rebooting more times than I care
to think. I even got a friend of mine who knows much, much more
about this than I look at it, and it baffled him. But here's the
weird part. When I use the standard installer found at
www.adobe.com/go/full_flashplayer_win_ie, I get an error message
that \\\\\Flash9a.ocx fails to load. When I use the complete
    installer, such as found at
    222.softwarepatch.com/internet/flash.html, it tells me that
Flash9b.ocx fails to register. If I look at the folder under
Windows\system32, etc., I see two Flash9b files, an .ocx and a
.exe.. I don't understand what is going on, and I really would like
to be able to use my camera software. Anyone else encountered this?
    Any suggestions?

Dear Friends, I have the same Flash Player / IE problems for
    several weeks now.
Followed many, many hints and waisted so much time without
    any result.
Why is it so difficult to fix such a severe bug in the
    software?
Please search for "flashplayer crash internet explorer" and
look how many people are really p*ss*d of by this.
Ok, maybe it is IE or Adobe software; fact is: NOTHING
    HAPPENS and browsers KEEP CRASHING.
This is unacceptable and very unprofessional.
Joey (really, really mad after the xxx-the IE crash).

  • Flash9*.ocx (vs) FlDbg9*.ocx - Security upgrades

Should we be worried after going to the trouble to keep our
corporate fleet updated with the latest Flash9*.ocx that the
equivalent (or typically much lower) version of FlDbg9*.ocx is
    still alive and kicking?
ie: If Flash Player is vulnerable, is the equivalent version
of Debugger Player also necessarily vulnerable?
Dreamweaver's Content Debugger Player 9.0.45.0 is still
peppered across our fleet that has just been updated to Flash
Player 9.0.115.0 (due to Adobe security bulletin APSB07-20)

To delete the Flash9.ocx file, try the following
using Windows Explorer, move the file to the Desktop
rename the file on the Desktop, e.g. to Flash9.o
now try delete the file from the Desktop
You may need to reboot Windows before you can delete the file from the Desktop.

    Hello DavoDavo81,
Thanks for using Apple Support Communities.
For more information on this, take a look at:

Deleting songs downloaded to your device
You can delete a song or album from your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch at any time. Don't worry; it'll still be in the cloud.
    Tap the Music app.
Tap More > Songs at the bottom.
Scroll or search for the song you would like to delete from your device.
Swipe right to left on the song, and then tap Delete.
Note: You must be in Artists, Songs, or Albums view to delete songs from your device. Deleting from a playlist won't remove a song from your iOS device.

  • Cannot delete file from external hard drive (error code 36) in Finder, but Terminal is ok

I have a relatively new Macbook Pro Retina 15" and have a Western Digital 1 TB Passport.  I've been using the passport for about a year now without any problems on older Macbooks in my house.  I used to be able to read and write to this drive no problem.  I am using the Paragon NTFS for Mac software in order to read and write to the NTFS drive.  When I navigate through the drive in Finder, if I try to create a new folder, I do not have a problem.  If I try to delete that folder I just created, I get this error:
The Finder can’t complete the operation because some data in “untitled folder” can’t be read or written.
    (Error code -36)
The folder has nothing in it whatsoever.  I just created it.  But if I go to Terminal and I run
    rm -rf "untitled folder"
This works fine.  Why is Terminal acting different than Finder?  This does not happen on my other Macbooks.  Thanks in advance.

Thanx for such qucik reply!!! The pages were great, it had an answer for my problem, but unfortunately it also involved me dealing with it only on the MacIntosh HD itself, not on mounted external drive I suppose... So it didn't work they say that there is an icon in the left corner indicating locked folder - I don't see any icon on it. It says you can untick the box to unlock the folder - there is no tick to be unticked. Finally, they say that if I don't have permition or rights I cannot delete it. But how do i change permittion which already says that i can read and write in it? So everything appears to be normal only I cannot delete it. there is not even any warnig telling me I don't have enough rights, it just requires the password and after me typing it in it makes the sound of scraping paper but does nothing more. I aslo had some problems with emptying Trash after being seemingly succesful with one file and had got so far to have them appear in the Trash (no clue how this one actully got there though..) I followd the advice and emptied the Trash with Terminal. The Folder is still there but it shows 0 Kb... So far so good BUT: It is still on the external drive, so I obviously only managed to copy it into the Trash!!! Phew, innit a bit too tight to poor owners, this macbook?? I want my rights back!

  • Cannot delete file from disk after emailling that file like attachment

After i send some file from disk in Mail like attachment i cannot delete that file from disk unless i quit Mail. Like Mail is still using a file. Of course, that mail is in Sent mail, not in outbox.

This deeper than that. I created another account on the same iMac and it works in Harmony with my other devices and Documents in the cloud. I can only imagine the icloud account is somehow corrupted (I am on my macbook not iMac at the moment). There have been no updates to the Calendar, Contacts or Documents since early January on that account. I have spent 1hr on the phone with support and they were baffled as well. Only thing I can gove as insight to the problem is this, I was on the Mac Mini which was backed up on Time Machine. about 4 or 5 months ago I had to completley restore the Mac Mini becasue of the never ending circle on the load screen. The Backup failed to work it kept loading the issue and 4 or 5 times the circle of death kept coming up I would subsequently wipe the Mini and go further back in the back up until I go a copy that worked.  I then loaded the Time Mache back up into my NEW iMac and wnet from there. It took about a month for this problem I am detailing above to start happening. It maybe a corrupt file loaded from the backup into the new iMac causing this problem. Best answer I can think of on my own???

  • I moved itunes file to external hard drive and want to move the file on my pc to recycle bin. When I move i get an error message that it cannot delete ituneshelper.dll access is denied. Can I move that file to the recycle bin?

I am trying to free up space on my pc and moving itunes files to external hard drive. I have followed instructions and believe I have file copied to new drive, but I am having trouble moving file to recycle bin as the instructions say. I am getting the following error message: cannot delete ituneshelper.dll:access denied, make sure disk is not full or write protected and file not in use. I know the file is not in use when trying to move. Any help would be most appreciated. I am on Windows XP.

Yes. And you should not have moved that folder. Put it back. To move your iTunes library move the folder from User's Music.

  • Cannot delete old voice memos from iPhone 4S, ios 6.0.1

So I noticed today while doing some housecleaning in iTunes and on my iPhone that I had three voice memos in my iphone that didnt get deleted (see picture below).
So naturally I go and attempt to delete those (because they are just taking up space (I know it's not much, but why have them if I am not using them?). Weird things is, I cannot delete these at all. I highlight all three and hit the delete key, no good. I right click and these are my only options:
The thing is, I go into my voice memos options in the main iTunes library, nothing is there.
As well, there is nothing in my iPhone's voice memo library. Also, the voice memo folder in my iTunes folder is empty.
Any suggestions to try and remove these off the device? I've tried everything I can think of to try and get rid of them.
    Thanks.

I cannot see your screen shots for some reason, but here's a suggestion:
Open iTunes on your computer, look at your playlists there.  Go to your "Voice Memos" playlist, delete all its contents, and then sync your iPhone to iTunes.

  • I have orphaned voice memos on my iPhone5 and cannot delete. Listed in iTunes but not on my iPhone's Voice Memo app.

When I upgraded from my iPhone 4 to iPhone 5, a bunch of voice memos were orphaned.
What this means is that when I connect my iPhone to iTunes, I see the voice memos.
They are listed in iTunes under my iPhone directories  "Voice Memo" and in "Music".
    But I cannot delete these.
When I go to my iPhone, the Voice memo app has changed (ok) and you can see there
are no voice memos. It appears that they are orphaned from the voice memo app.
So the voice memos are in my phone somewhere.
How can I delete them or export them or something with them?
I can't play them except on iTunes. They don't show up in Music in my iPhone.
    Thanks for your Help
