Cannot delete locations in Finder windows "Places" sidebar

Hello and thank you for your time.
Im getting furiously mad at my computer, I have a folder that I deleted that still shows up in the Finder locations sidebar, on the left side where you have "Desktop" and any Optical Drives, connected servers etc etc, well I have this one folder that I cant get rid of. On legit items there I can right click on them, I can right click and up comes, if I right click on Desktop "open" "open enclosing folder" "get info" "change desktop background""rename desktop" "remove from sidebar".
I just want this **** folder gone, really bugs me, Ive used Spotlight to search for the name, and it cant find anything. Its like theres some location that the computer remembers, but it no longer exists and it cant even decide to let me right click and remove it. Ive tried getting rid of everything from the sidebar, unticking the boxes in the preference menu, but the folder will still stay.
Please help, its really annoying me.
Thank you for your time, have a nice day.

wow thank you so much! Thats so great, I never tried to just drag it off! I just...im somewhat new to mac...wow, thats amazing I was totally beat by that problem and it was as easy as dragging it off....i feel so stupid now!
thank you so much for your help, i dont know why it didnt let me right click and "remove from sidebar" like the other items though, thank you for your help!

You can't delete the update and your problem probably is not in the Update.
Check to see if Location Services is turned ON. (Settings > Privacy > Location Services)

  • Cannot delete HID subkeys in Windows 7

I cannot delete HID subkeys in Windows 7 (32-bit & 64-bit). Please see the registry image below. I need to delete subkey VID_04D8&PID_00DE and its subkeys.
I used LabVIEW 8.5 and had turned off User Account Control. Here is my code:
    The error I got is:
Error -604 occurred at Open Registry Key.vi
Possible reason(s): LabVIEW: Remote registry access denied.
In the registry window, I can grant permission of Full Control up to CurrentControlSet level, but starting Enum subkey, Windows won't let me to grant Full Control permission.
Could someone please help on this issue?

Wait you want to change those values with LabVIEW VIs? If so you have to launch your LabVIEW program as administrator instead. You can't change the access rights of system registry entries easily.
You can usually do that from an explorer window, by right clicking on your program icon and selecting to start it as administrator.

  • Cannot delete folder from Finder

I installed Logic Pro X, but then later uninstalled the program. It left a folder called "Audio Music Apps" in the Music folder, which I cannot delete. Anytime I try to delete it, it asks for my password, makes the trash bin sound, but doesn't go anywhere. I can't move the folder anywhere else either.
I reinstalled Logic and did a clean uninstall of every file from the software, but the folder is still there and cannot be deleted.
    Any suggestions?

  • Cannot switch to open finder windows

when i command-tab to finder, my currently open finder windows do not appear! if i re-launch finder, finder behaves normally for a little while, but at some point open finder windows simply do not appear when i switch to the finder. i've properly switched to finder because my menubar says so; and if i use expose i can see that i do have a finder window indeed open, it's just hidden behind whatever application i was switching from.
at first i noticed this problem was occurring right after running certain automator workflows as finder plug-ins; only some caused this to happen, not all of my finder plug-ins. i ran the workflows IN automator and it did not cause the problem, but immediately after running them from the finder the problem appeared. i've been using these workflows for months: appzapper, cleanapp, and a couple i made.
but even if i don't invoke those workflows, the problem duplicates itself eventually, until i'm forced to restart finder!

    SOLVED.
problem: having items in both the /Library/Contextual Menu Items and ~/Library/Contextual Menu Items.
the program NoteTaker by Aquaminds automatically installs an item into your global contextual menu items; for some reason, the existence of items in both folders would break open finder window focus when switching to finder, after any contextual menu item was invoked--even if it's a standard OS X one, like "get info"!
this has been annoying the crap out of me the last few days. amazing what revelations we have in the shower.

  • Cannot delete System partition in Windows 8

    Hi
When I installed the Windows 8. It creates 2 partition. One is the system partition. And another a primary partition.
There are numerous times that my Windows 8 crashes very badly!
    Without anything to fall back.
How do I delete this partition from Command Prompt.
I try delete partition via diskpart without success!
On a xp if you use diskpart it shown the partition which you can delete or create.
On windows 8 the diskpart gui like the one in xp is not available.

    Hi,
If you delete the partition, Windows 8 won't boot successfully.
When installing Windows 8, it will let you format the hard drive. Or you can access recovery options, use diskpart from Command Prompt there.

My ipad had been lost or stolen.  I do 't have device or packing so trying to find a way to find serial number?

Was it ever backed up to your computer's iTunes ? If it was then if you go into Edit > Preferences in iTunes and select the Devices tab, then if you hover the mouse pointer over the iPad's backup then the serial number should show : http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4061

  • Why is my attachment finder window different

My finder window has my frequent file folders in the sidebar. When I use mail to send an attachment it's finder window (and Sidebar) usually mimick the finder sidebar. However I noticed my recently added folder in my finder sidebar does not show up in the finder sidebar through Mail attachments. ( I hope that was clear enough explaination). All the previous ones are there. Any suggestions??

Contacted Applecare. It appears the folder wes nested to far into the system. By placing the folder in the documents folder (only 2 levels in) the folder now seems to stay in the sidebar area.

  • Ipod cannot be located

Newly purchased iPod Touch 5 and MacBook Air cannot be located in Find My iPhone. But iPad 3 purchased months ago can be located. And no map-related Apps work either.

Yes. And device Location switches are turned on. The Radar weather map was working fine for a week and then it just stopped locating my town. Just downloaded the Google Earth App on the iPod and the first time opened it located me and then the Home button in the bottom left started swirling around and it never found me again.

  • Cannot remove a broken sidebar network folder alias in Finder window

Mac OS 10.6.7 -- WinXP Home
I have a created netowork folder alias in the sidebar of my Finder window that points to a shared folder on an officemate's PC (WinXP Home). This folder has been deleted on the officemate's computer. Now, in my Finder window, I cannot click on the alias. Clicking on the broken network sidebar folder aliases or dragging them off of the side bar (they used to vanish in a puff of smoke but now they don't) does nothing.
I can right/control-click is but the only option in the sub-menu is "Open Sidebar Preferences..." and nothing else (other aliases have all the options including "Remove from sidebar"). I can't even drag the folder aliases off of the sidebar in a puff of smoke either. I'm at a loss on this one.
Any ideas how to remove these broken sidebar aliases? Even opening the sidebar preference panel yielded nothing I could see that would help.

If you have installed Developer Tools on your Mac (Optional Installs on your MacOS X installer DVD) then you can delete individual aliases in the Finder sidebar, using Property List Editor, which you'll find in Developer > Applications > Utilities.
In your Home folder go to User > Library > Preferences > com.apple.sidebarlists.plist
Control-right click and choose Open With > Property List Editor.
Scroll down to "useritems" and click the grey arrow next to it to reveal contents.
Click the arrow next to CustomListItems and you'll see a list of entries marked "Item" with a numeric suffix.
Click the grey arrow next to the Item whose number corresponds to the sidebar alias that you want to get rid of and you'll see the info associated with that entry, including its name, as seen in the sidebar.
If it's the right one, click again on the Item header (i.e. "Item [x]") and hit delete.
Quit Property List Editor and Save changes.
Quit and relaunch Finder and that item will be gone from the sidebar list. Everything else will still be there, and you won't need to rebuild the list.
