Cannot delete Opera.app entirely

I recently installed Opera but quickly realised that Safari worked sufficiently well for my needs and so deleted Opera - or at least thought I did. All the application files have been deleted - including preferences and preference panes, but when I go to open a .jpg using the pop-up 'open with' command, Opera is listed along with the apps I expect to see there. If I click on Opera it opens the .jpg! I can then find new preferences but no sign of the application. How weird is that? I deleted Opera using a utility called AppDelete. Is this a bug perhaps? I'd really like to get Opera completely off my system is at all possible. Any ideas?

Hi Oldgustav
If you had deleted Opera, then it would have been deleted, and would not be able to open anything. Do a Spotlight search. It will show you where the app is and where the preferences file is, and any other associated files like the Opera cache.
I am suspicious of apps like AppDelete. After having read user comments of this app it seems that the app cannot truly distinguish between files associated with the application you want deleted and other files that just happen to have a similar name, and it may well delete important files. I would delete AppDelete if I were you.

Are there any parental controls on the iPad or iTunes?

The preinstalled apps, those that came as part of the iOS, cannot be deleted and will not shake or provide the black circle-X for deletion.
Others should do that if you touch and hold for a few seconds.
If they are not, do a reboot by holding both the power and home buttons until the apple logo appears and it restarts, ignoring the red slider if that appears.

  • I cannot delete some apps from my Iphone.

I cannot delete certain apps from my Iphone. (Not System Apps) They are blacked out, if I press and hold the app the option is there to delete it however it does not delete. After pressing the X it says "deleting xxxx will also delete all of its data"  I click delete, but nothing happens. I verified that i do not have any restrictions. Any suggestions?

    Hi andyhany,
Thanks for visiting Apple Support Communities.
It sounds like the apps may not have downloaded to your iPhone completely. I recommend trying the solution from this discussion thread first:
App updates won't download on my iPhone, they just say waiting.
         https://discussions.apple.com/thread/4111336
Try tapping the App, so that it changes to Paused instead of Waiting, then tap it again to resume the install.
Make sure you don't have any paused downloads in other apps either, like the App Store or iTunes Store.
If that doesn't do it, try resetting or restoring the iPhone.
    Regards,
    Jeremy

  • Ipad mini cannot delete unwanted app from the purchase list

Ipad mini cannot delete unwanted app from the puchase list . too many app there

You can't permanently delete any items from your purchase history, but you should be able to hide them via your computer's iTunes : http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4919 - if your iPad is on iOS 7, then after hiding them on your computer you may need to log out of your account on your iPad by tapping on your id in Settings > iTunes & App Store and then log back in for them to be hidden in the Purchased tab in the App Store app on it (the last time I hid an app I needed to do that).

  • Re: Cannot delete Games App cannot remove linkedin from hub

Hi i clicked on the games app on the Z10 and it forced me to grant it permission to share on bbm. I dont want it showing up on my bbm. However the option on settings and permissions is greyed out and set to on. How can this be- must be a bug? also you cannot delete the app..... so lookks like im stuck with the problem? any help please..............
    ps have tried these options
    1. Delete the app by pressing and holding the icon and click on delete.
    2. Best way to get rid of the app is go into my world and uninstall the app.
    3. Can change the application permissions under settings, Security and Privacy, Application Permissions.
    none work!.
Next is the app linkedin succesfully deleted it but now cannot remove it of the hub list it still remains there even if i turn it to off in the hub settings? also all app ppermissions are set to off.

Arsen, I don't think you understand that in the Z10 these 3 delete options are not available for the Games App. And in the application permissions it is greyed out and you CAN'T change it. None of the sliders, whether grey or not, are moveable. they are permanently stuck on the "ON" position.
    WTF Blackberry?!

  • I'm beginning to believe you cannot delete unwanted app updates.  Is that a correct assumption?

Am I correct in assuming you cannot delete unwanted app updates?

They should have a "More" link on each. CTRL- or RIGHT-click on it and select Ignore update from the context menu. This is all you can do.
If you erase the software from all disks, then you should not be bothered about them at all.

  • I cannot delete ANY apps after upgrading to ios 5-

After updated my software to ios 5 (iPhone 4, Verizon), I cannot delete any of the apps; it's like every single app is now a "native," acting just like all of the built in apps like phone, message, safari, etc. When I hold down on any one of them, they all start shaking, but no red x with the circle- there is no way to remove them...
I think that it is a bug in the software, because I updated my other iPhone 4 to ios 5, and I do not have any issues with this whatsoever...

I am having the exact same problem. When i go to update my existing apps - it asks me to type my password for my initial apple id (upon upgrade i needed to change it to the @soandso.com) but it wont take my password. When i try to download new applications it works - my new apple id comes up and everything works fine.
i tried restoring my phone, changing my settings, etc.
When i try to update in itunes it gives me a notification along the lines of "cannot update do to not holding majority of ..."
    did you find a solution?
    Very Frustrated...

  • I cannot delete unwanted app from my iPhone 5.  They wiggle and show the X but when I press the X it grays our but will not delete or go back to the home page when I press the home button

The icons wiggle and show the x but they will not delete when I press the X.  Also the home button will not cancel the action.

Try doing a hard reset: Press and hold both the Home button and the Sleep/wake button simultaneously for about 15 seconds and release when the Apple logo appears.
After this, try again to delete the app.
If that doesn't solve the issue, you could also try backing up the device and restoring the device as new.
In that case, follow the steps in: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4137
NB: set up as a NEW device because a software issue will be in the backup. If the issue persists after restoring as new, you should offer the device for service.
If you're not able to restore the device, this one might help: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1808
Using his article will erase everything on the device, so make sure you have a backup!
    Good luck

  • I cannot delete any apps on my iPhone5 in the usual way - how can I fix this?

I have tried to delete apps off my main screen in the usual way (ie press and he the icon and press the x in the corner) but when I press and hold the app, no x appears. Does anyone know what us wrong or how to fix it?

For non-purchased music like CD ripped songs, you need some third party software like sharepod, yamipod or iPod file manager to copy them from iPod back to computer. if you need details, here is a guide about how to copy iPod music. Hope it helps. Feel free to email me if you need further help.

  • I cannot delete my apps

My iPAD (first version) says Im using 28 out of 32gb - so its really slow. I tried to delete a ton of apps I dont use. I get the giggler, I get the "X" and they disappear BUT THEN the iPad freezes and restarts and the Apps are all back again! No way Im paying $19 bucks to Apple support techs just to find out Im an idiot and the solution was really easy! Can anyone help!

setting > general reset > erase all content and settings

  • Apps don't wiggle and cannot delete

I cannot delete my apps on my ipad. I have tried the followings thing:
    1. Press and hold apps/screen - they DO NOT wiggle/shake
    2. Tried to go into my Settings and reset my Restrictions - Restrictions is not present in my Settings.
    3. Tried to go to Settings --> General --> Reset - Rest is not preset in my Settings.
This was all occuring when I had the older iOS earlier today. So, I updated my iOS and currently have version 5.1. I even reset it my iPad from within iTunes and it is all still happening.
How do I delete an app and how do I make everything wiggle/shake????

You have not stated what version of the iPad you have, I.e., 1, 2 or the new iPad. It is obvious it is not the latter since it comes with iOS 5.1, otherwise you would have no need to update.
We're you able to delete any apps in any previous version?
You state that Reset (Rest) is not in your Settings. You normally have to scroll to the very bottom of the page for it which will then take you to a new page with six options. It shouldn't make any difference but you could also try Reset Home Page Screen Layout.
If all fails I would go down the route of a Restore. See here http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1808
Make sure you use the computer you normally sync to, that you do a backup (which should be automatic) as part of that process, and that you restore from that backup in the final stages of the process rather than setting it up as a new device.

  • An app on my iPhone 5 will not finish updating and I cannot delete it

I tried updating an app on my iPhone 5 and for weeks it has been loading and underneath the app icon it says "waiting". When I try to delete the app the small "x" symbol that should appear on the icon does not leading me to beleive I cannot delete this app. I have tried everything to delete this app so I can re-download it and be able to use it but nothing seems to work. Please help

    Hi there,
I would recommend first restarting the device the trying to delete the app again in the manner you discribed above.

If you continue experiencing issues, then you may need to restore the iOS software.

  • HT204266 My child deleted the "app store" app.  How do I get it back or reinstall?

My child deleted the "app store" app.  How do I get it back or reinstall?  Normally I would go into the app store to get the deleted app...

You cannot delete the App Store app as it is one of the default apps. Your daughter most likely moved it onto another screen or accidentally moved it on top of another app which creates a folder that contains both apps.
Swipe to the furthest left screen, the search screen, type in App Store, and you'll find where the App Store is hidden.
