Cannot delete pages in Acrobat 9 Standard

We have several new computers we just installed and 7 new acrobat 9 standard discs with serial numbers.  Installation went fine.  We can create PDFs but when we try to edit, we cannot delete pages.  Online help shows how to delete pages in Acrobat 9 Standard, but the Delete option is not available on the menus.
I uninstalled and reinstalled Acrobat 9 Standard on one computer to see if a new install would fix the problem, but it did not.  Anyone have any ideas what the problem is?

Please use the camera icon for uploading screen captures or other pictures, then we do not have to wait for the file to be approved. To try to help a bit let us get a bit more information. OS? Any plugins for Acrobat installed?  Try this on a pdf that you create. Make sure no security is set for the pdf file.

  • BAD PARAMETER Error when Deleting Pages in Acrobat

When I attempted to delete pages in Acrobat Standard, I received an information error stating:
    Bad Parameter
When I try to click ok on the error message, it just keeps coming back over and over again. There is no way to get rid of the error message so I am forced to end the program using the Windows Task Manager.
Has anyone seen this error message before and if so, is there a fix?
    Any help is greatly appreciated!!
    Thanks!

    Hello,
This is an incredably annoying error. I had a complete manuscript ready for print, except I needed to delete one page, which of course Acrobat would not let me. I had spent a considerable amount of energy on the page numbering, bookmarks etc., so creating a completely new PDF by for example printing to PDF was out of the question.
In the end, I ended up extracting all the pages in the document, except the one I wanted to delete. This way, I ended up with a new PDF, but all of the bookmarks, page number formatting, etc. migrated together with the extracted pages to the new document.
Hopefully, Adobe will be able to fix this issue soon.

  • Acrobat X, error message "cannot delete pages, pages are in use"

Recently updated to Acrobat X. After saving a pdf, if I try to delete a page or pages, I get an error message "cannot delete pages, pages are in use". I have to close acrobat and reopen my document to continue deleting pages. Is there a fix for this? So far, I think Acrobat 7 was better that X!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

What OS are you using?  Ive read that preview pane in windows vista and 7 causes an issue with the delete page feature.  The suggestion was generally to turn the preview feature off.
Heres technet article on turning off the feature:

  • Cannot delete page in iWorks 5.0

I am not able to delete a page in Pages 5.0 and have tried to use the deselect all through document setup and have been unsuccessful.  Any thoughts?

LIke the OP, I just ran into this issue as well.  I cannot delete the last page of my document.
The first thing I tried was to show invisibles and try deleting everything after the last paragraph, but there isn't anything there.  There are headers and footers on each page, including the last, but those should not force an additional page.
My next inclination is to wonder if there is somehow an option that was turned on relating to duplexing because the blank page is the fourth page in the document.  I cannot find any settings related to duplexing or even/odd pages, though.
This is really strange (and by strange I mean annoying).

  • Cannot delete pages after saving a PDF in X Pro

I am on Windows 7 and Adobe Acrobat XPro.  Every time I try to delete pages in any PDF after saving I get the error message "one or more pages are in use and could not be deleted".  the work around is to close the file and then reopen.  Then you can delete the pages.  It is annoying to have to shut and reopen the file everytime after making a change.  Is there a fix to this?

Have you tried Help > Check for updates (in Acrobat)?
That very annoying problem is fixed in XI. I seem to recall it could be fixed by updating X, but I could be mistaken. Please report back.

  • PDF cannot be merge in Acrobat Standard 5

    Hi
Am using Acrobat Standard 5. When trying to merge PDF, below error appear. Wonder if anyone can guide me on how to solve this problem ?
These documents contain subsets fonts that have the same name and cannot be merged

With the older versions like AA5, you had to print to a new PDF to do many things that are built in to Acrobat today or can be done with preflight. In this case try to print and select the job options to embed all fonts at 100%. You may have to save the job settings to a new name for this (the files are write protected). Then try to combine.

  • Cannot delete pages.

With Page Thumbnails panel open, I highlight and press DEL or right-click > Delete Pages, and I get:
"One or more pages are in use and could not be deleted."
They're not in use. I can somtimes close the PDF and reopen, and then delete the pages. But not always.
What's going on here; how do I get around this?

@ ECT Doreen - thanks for the response but I'm not running Acrobat in any compatability mode. The option is not even "checked" in the executable's properties.

  • I cannot delete pages from photo book.

I am finished creating my photo book but cannot delete extra pages.  It is currently 33 pages (including cover) and I only need 29.  I've tried the Delete key and the "Remove Page" option.  I've also tried deleting the com.apple.iPhoto.plist file and restarting iPhoto.  Nothing works.  Any suggestions?

Covers do not count and you must have an even number of pages (sheets of paper have 2 sides)
The minimum for a book is 10 sheets of paper or 20 pages plus covers
How many pages do you have?

  • Can we delete pages in a PDF file?

Can we delete pages in a PDF file?

You cannot delete pages in Reader on any platform. Reader is a reading app not an editing app.
You can delete pages in Acrobat on Mac or Windows.

  • Can delete pages from PDFs

In general, I cannot delete pages from my PDFs the first few times. Acrobat displays the error "One or more pages could not be deleted." Generally speaking, if I close down and restart Acrobat a few times, I am able to delete the page(s) in question. Is there a way to get the delete function to work on the first try?

Wonder if is just a matter of waiting for a while. It is like opening a PDF and then closing it. It opens right back up. There is a delay in some of the loading aspects and that might be what you are seeing. OK, a guess, but I have never had the problem.

  • Is there a way to flatten pages in Acrobat XI

Is there a way to Flatten pages in Acrobat Standard XI.  In Standard 9 I used a script called flatten.js and it worked fine.  I read it will not work with XI. Any alternatives?

    Gilad,
Thanks for the reply, but I still can't seem to get this to work. Let me expand on what I was doing previously and maybe you can tell me what I am doing wrong now. Previously in Adobe Pro X when we had documents that we needed to sent to a client, we ran the Flatten Form Fields and Comments action script. This worked wonderfully until we upgraded to XI, now it appears to be broken as we can still edit the text using the "Content Editing" option from Tools even though it was suppose to be Flattened.
I have tried many other options: Flatten Comments and Annontations action script, another JS script that I found for Flattening (but it was old from 2008), and also tried doing the Javascript Debugger method and using the this.flattenPages(); command which returneds undefined when I press Ctrl + Enter. All of these the result in that I can continue to edit the text after the script/command is ran.
Am I missing something on how to lock down the PDFs now in XI or maybe I have a setting wrong that is blocking Javascript? I am hoping I am just making a mistake somewhere and the origional functionality we used in X is not gone.
Thank you for your time regarding this matter.

  • Cannot delete individual pages in Adobe Acrobat X PDF

So annoying.  When I try to delete individual pages it gives me the error message "one or more pages are in use and cannot be deleted".  I have tried closing the thumbnail page preview pane, selecting the pages and hitting backspace (delete), highlighting and choosing the 'delete page' icon at the top of the toolbar....nothing.  I have seen a lot of threads about this issue that are dated 2011 with no solutions.  Has anyone out there found the solution?
    Much appreciated.
Using Adobe Acrobat 10.1.4, Mac OSX 10.7.4

    What you said,
If you actually want to fix this problem in Acrobat X:
    1. Go to the Help Menu
    2. Select Repair Installation
    3. Follow the instructions
    4. Get on with your life
    was perfectly right. Thanks!

  • Cannot attach a pdf after extracting a page in Acrobat X Pro

I have a user that wants to extract one page from a multi page pdf and then e-mail it.  He performs these steps - >
Tools - Extract - Share - The file is not showing up in the Select Any Type of File box and the Attach to Email bubble is filled in.
He aslo has Adobe Reader XI installed and is using Windows XP.
    Any ideas?

Hopefully Adobe Reader is not being used to attempt this as it cannot do it.
Now if Acrobat XI Pro is used the "click" path is Tools | Pages | Extract which will present the "Extract Pages" dialog.
Note that there is no "share" associated with this.
The "Extract Pages" dialog affords the user the ability to select the "from" and "to" pages, the ability to tick "Delete Pages After Extracting" and the ability to tick "Extract Pages As Separate Files".
A similar dialog / end-user choices for Acrobat X Pro, the flavors of Acrobat 9 Pro and 8 Pro.
It appears that some other process is in play. Could you identify it please.
    Be well...

  • Acrobat Standard Won't print first 1/2 page of scanned document

I have a previously unseen problem.  I've had the program for a few years, but now it won't print the top half of the first page of a scanned document (some of them).  I tried to print something I scanned a few weeks ago, and it works fine.  That one's also in color.  The ones that won't print fully are black and white.  Any ideas?

You're going to think this is impossible, but the problem only seems to occur with a couple of particular documents I was scanning.  I tried deleting the file, rescanning and resaving, then printing with the same 1/2 page result.  I tried scanning, saving, and printing a couple of sample documents (thinking I would send one of these to you), and there was no problem!  After multiple attempts with the problem document, I fed it through the document feder backwards, and then it scanned, saved, and printed with no problem.
I'm using a Brother MFC-J6710DW printer, Windows XP Pro, Acrobat Standard 7.0.  I've actually tried to update Acrobat, without success for some reason.  The actual problem document is too sensitive for me to send out.  I'd like to hear ideas, in case this repeats.
    Thank you.
