try those
Tap the message thread as needed.
Tap and hold the preferred message.

Tap to check the preferred message(s).
Tap the trash can icon.
Tap Delete Message.
If those didn't work just reboot your Iphone

Call AppleCare and ask them to deactivate iMessage. It might take awhile to become effective.

I'm trying to recover text messages I deleted on my iPhone4s. Is it possible?
Is it possible to do with out using a computer. If possible I'd like to recover the messages using my iPhone.

If the backup is made after the messages were deleted, then you won't be able to get them back via an iTunes restore. However, you may be able to use a third-party program to look at the backup made after the messages were deleted and see what information about those messages is recoverable.
One program, the one I work on, is called Decipher TextMessage. Our software will scan the text-message database and show you what information (whole and incomplete) was found that has been previously deleted. We've had a lot of success helping folks recover their deleted text messages -- it doesn't always work 100% since we're at the mercy of how the database works but it's worth a shot to see what you can find!
The website for Decipher TextMessage is http://deciphertools.com
You're also welcome to visit our website, try the software free, and send us any questions that you have.
Disclaimer: Since I work on Decipher TextMessage, I stand to benefit from the links to our website that I've made above.

  • How do I recover a deleted text message on iPhone 4?

Is there any way to recover (for free?) deleted text messages on the iPhone 4?  Any suggestions would be appreciated

    howdy TechChicClik,
It sounds like you would like to restore some texts that were deleted. If you back up to iTunes or to iCloud, you can restore from a backup that has the texts you wish to restore. Keep in mind that this will restore the entire device to the way it was when you made the backup.
This article will help you do that:

  • Can i retrieve my deleted text messages on iphone 4

ive deleted my text message on my iphone - if i restore my phone to last icloud back up will my messages appear

    Hello tamster123
Yes you can as long as they were part of the back up and you did not remove anything from your iCloud back up. By default, it backs up Photos and videos in your Camera Roll, Device settings, App data, Home screen and app organization, iMessage, text (SMS), and MMS messages, Ringtones, Visual Voicemail.

  • Is there any way to restore deleted text messages on iPhone 5?

I accidentally deleted a string of text messages on my iphone 5 yesterday and was wondering if there is anyway to get them back.  I have the icloud back up on but have not used the backup through itunes.  Please let me know if any of you know if there is a way to get them back!
    Thank you!

if you are certain that you have those text message in the icloud backup, then do this.
Go to settings - general - reset - erase all contents and settings - this will wipe your phone clean, then when it boots back up, you'll have the option to restore from your icloud backup.  Your phone will restore to that backup, anything current you have will be erased.

    Help

Ok, all of your posts with "solutions" to the problem are great but many are incorrect and pointlessly excessive. All you need to do is simply follow these steps and there will, usually, be no actual NEED to contact AppleCare tech support:
    1. Turn off iMessages on your mobile device that you are getting rid of.
    2. (For some situations) Step 1, normally, will deactivate your number from the messaging database that Apple keeps. But, you have to actually TURN OFF iMessages. Otherwise, if you no longer have the iPhone or other Apple mobile device THEN call AppleCare tech support and let them know that you simply need them to De-Register the phone number associated with your Facetime and iMessages accounts.
***There is no need to reference the article TS5185 as they will simply do what you ask them to do so long as your word it right and don't make them have to probe and fish for more details. I repeat...."De-Register your phone number associated with your Facetime and iMessages"
    3. Have your friends and family members that are using iPhones delete any and ALL previous conversation threads that they have from texting/messaging you saved on their iPhones.
***This is important because Messages remember where they originated and will always attempt to go back there even if you are trying to get texts to show on a new Apple device, like an iPad.
    4. If you are attempting to get Messages on two Apple mobile device then follow steps 1-3 and then verify that all of your mobile devices have the EXACT same Send & Recieve settings. Once that has been established you can then initiate a conversation on either mobile device and you will be able to see the conversation take place on both devices.

  • How do you retrieve deleted texted messages on iphone 4s?

I deleted the wrong text message and I'm trying to get it back. Whenever I am in the search mode and type in a certain letter, I can see the partial text. So I know that the message is still in my phone's memory bank. Can anyone Please help me get the text back?

The only way to get the text back to your phone is to restored your phone from a backup, if those text message were included in the backup.

There is no trash like emails to recover text message.

  • Cannot delete text message

I have looked through the forum until my eyes hurt to find a solution, so I apologize if this has been covered before. Here's the problem:
I had sent a text message a few days ago and it failed. So, I resent it and it still failed, so I deleted it. Gone, right? Wrong. Now, I get a notification on the top bar that says "text message not sent" and when you tap on it to see the text message, an error message box pops up and says "message not available". So then I press the clear button and the notification goes away. Gone right? Wrong. The failed message stays gone until you open the text messaging menu and bang, the error message comes back. How do I get rid of this? It's not particularly irritating, but it does leave an icon on the notification bar constantly, why?

There have been a number of people experience this issue. There seems to be some sort of basic problem, but I don't know if anyone has found a repeatable method to produce this problem.
As far as I know the only way to get rid of the message is to restore factory defaults on your device. There are a number of threads here that describe the processing for completing this.

  • How do I restore deleted text message photo attachments?

I deleted a group of text messages with attached photos by mistake from my iPhone 5. After doing a restore from my most recent backup, the text messages are restored, but many of the photos only show a file name. The files are primarily jpegs along with a few .png and .mov. Should I try to do another backup and restore or is there another way to get back the missing photos?

As we know, every time you sync iDevice with iTunes, it will automatically make a backup of your iDevice contents including photos, SMS, reminders, contacts and more. Therefore, as long as you have ever synced your iPhone with iTunes, you can recover deleted text messages from iPhone. Do not connect your iPhone to iTunes again until the messages are recovered with iPhone Data Recovery. Otherwise, the old backup file will be overwritten by the current content on your iPhone. Once it happens, the deleted messages will be gone forever.
