Cannot delete two stubborn video files

Hello all,
I have two files that I have downloaded by accident from a p2p site. They are both .mkv files, which I believe makes them Matroska video files. They are trailers for movies. They appear to work fine in VLC, but when I delete them and empty the Trash they appear back in the downloads folder a couple of hours later. I have tried 'shredding' them using a shredding Dashboard widget, but they won't disappear from my downloads folder (at least, they go and then come back). My p2p program is Vuze (formerly Azureus). I have checked permissions, and I have read and write privileges. Can anyone help me get rid of these files?
I am not amazingly adept at computer stuff, so if there's anything technical involved I'd appreciate a step-by-step guide.
Thanks so much!
Leigh

Try this
In a terminal, enter
rm
be sure to include a space after rm
then take one of the video files you wish to trash and drag it into the terminal next to the
rm
you should then see something like
rm /Users/nero/Desktop/test.txt
where Desktop will be, on your machine, the folder the file is in, and
test.txt
will be the name of the video file.
Once it looks correct, hit the enter key and it should be gone for good.

  • Deleting the uncompressed video file once m2v and aif have been created

When I create a dvd then close the project.
I then later delete the uncompressed video file captured from tape.
I reopen DVD studio pro and it tells me that it cannot find original file.
I tell it to used m2v encoded file as new video file and aif encoded file as new audio file.
But i am then given an error message and these two files disapear.
Can anyone help me out. Surely i should not have to keep the original captured video file for every dvd I want to make. The idea surely is that once DVD studio pro has made m2v and aif files then the project should be able to use those to create any further DVD of that project.

I've still never seen any problems with a single video track and uncompressed audio.
I won't argue that it never happens to anybody, of course, but I've made DVDs for a lot of people, and usually the only problems I hear tend to be a problem with their brand of player not being able to recognize the media. Those are relatively rare and almost always has to do with cheaper brands of DVD players. If they can get it to start at all, I haven't heard of any trouble with playing the whole thing.
I would like to know if that's the problem I had with trying multiple video tracks, though. DVDSP would refuse to even finish the build. It would start to mux, then partway through, say the bitrate was too high and abort. It was a long time ago, but I would've been using uncompressed audio and probably fairly high bitrate video (3.2Mbps, possibly even 3.5). Seemed stupid to me; I would've thought the muxing would be a smart enough design so that only the video and audio tracks in use at any given time (one video, one audio, one subtitle) would count toward your maximum allowed bitrate.
But that brings up another point you guys might try. I heard people mention 3.5Mbps. I use 3.2, and I don't see any noticeable difference in the quality of the video. But switching from uncompressed audio to ac3 definitely is a noticeable (downward) difference, at least using the stock Dolby 2.0 encoding preset included in DVDSP4 / Compressor 2 and a standard stereo (2-channel) source. I did several different tests where I encoded the audio both ways and burned a test DVD with multiple audio tracks, switching between them to compare. Even normal conversations on the ac3 (Dolby 2.0) track sounded quieter and less dynamic, and there was (naturally) an even more noticeable difference in any kind of music.
So you might give that combination (3.2Mbps video with uncompressed audio) a try in the future, especially if you're picky about the audio. If that fixes the problem, I think it's a reasonable sacrifice since the audio difference is more severe. Basically, if you're doing a professional enough job that the difference in video between 3.5Mbps and 3.2Mbps is important, then you should already be doing a professional 5.1 audio encoding from individual channels anyway.
BTW, I have my 3.2Mbps labeled "120min", since that's about what I can fit on a DVD with uncompressed audio. My other often-used settings are 2.8Mpbs for 135min (three hour-long TV episodes with commercials cut out), and 2.0Mpbs for 170min. (And I can't remember for sure, but the 170min may even be a slight overestimate, so be careful of cutting it too close if you use those settings.) I usually don't even notice a video quality difference with 2.8Mpbs, though I have only used that with a less-than-pristine source anyway, so the lower bitrate isn't the bottleneck for quality in that case.

  • Nokia c6-01 cannot delete photos and videos

why my c6-01 cannot delete pictues and videos that i captured??....when i try to delete that pictures the general error comes out...one more question...can the type of memory card that uses can make this problem overcome???..need opinion

    Hi luqman94,
Thank you for your post and welcome to the forums!
If you mean hard reset, it will only wipe your phone memory empty. If you have data on your memory card it will stay untouched.
If you are unable to delete files in mass memory mode via computer, we would advise you to remove the memory card from your phone and connect it directly into your computer with an adapter and see if you can modify it's contents that way.
If the problem persists, you could try to format the card either on your phone or computer and see if that helps. Just remember to backup any content you'd like to keep before doing this.

  • Two different video files in the same clip

Well, I've been looking around and have been wondering if it's possible t have two different video files play at the same time, both being shown at the same time, for example, what I would like to do is; I have two separate video files, one of me playing rhythm on a guitar, the other of me soloing, and would like the to play at once, both being visible at the same time, one on each side of the screen.

if you're using iMovie vers≤6, look at the plug-in makers for some PIP (picture in picture) plug-in...

or, in case you own QTpro, you can use that ..
or, if you like total control, consider purchasing/'upgrading' to FinalCutExpress..

  • Sync audio with two different video files to create split screen

I want to sync two different video files to a high quality audio file and create a split screen from there in Final Cut Pro X. Help please?

I'm following along at home, Tom, trying to make sense out of your instructions. (Editorially: This kind of operation is among the reasons I thoroughly loathe FCPX.) This would have been easy in FCP7. Perhaps it's actually the same amount of work (you are describing operations in FCPX I have not bothered to try yet—too scared) but it's far more direct the old way: Find sync points for all three files, stack them up in a timeline, nudge till precisely matched, apply effects.
But I'm glad you're here to help us through this stuff!

  • How to import two AVI video files & convert to one FLV ?

    Status:
    - Newbie using PC & Flash CS3 ver9l
    - I can import a single AVI video file and convert it to an FLV video.
    Problem:
    - I have two AVI video files... one 4GB (20 minute) long and one 2GB (10 minute) long... and want to combine them to have a single 30 minute long FLV video file.
    Question:
    - Can I do this in Flash? When I "convert" a single AVI video to a FLV using the File, Import method... I can't really see the video on the Flash time line. I'm a newbie so I'm probably doing something wrong.
    - I tried doing a File, Import for file-1.avi and then doing it for file-2.avi... but the two were on top of each other... and not end to end.
Maybe some kind sould will walk me through this.
    Thanks for any help.

Your not going to be able to combine two videos as one in flash, if your using Win try Win Movie Maker, I believe you can drag both into a WMVM timeline and can then save as one file, then you can use AVC video converter or the like to encode them into an .flv or.f4v file.

  • Need script to delete two MS pref files

As one who can't script my way out of a paper bag, I come here suitably humbled to request help with a script.
Every so often, some of my incoming emails in MS Entourage become unreadable due to garbled fonts.  The solution is two quit MS Entourage and delete two Microsoft preferences files.  I'm looking for a script that would automatically send these two files to the Trash:
    • MS Office font cache
/Users/ramoncastaneda/Library/Preferences/Microsoft/Office Font Cache (11)  ===>>> delete the “Office Font Cache (11)” file.
    • and MS browser font cache
    /Users/ramoncastaneda/Library/Caches/com.microsoft.browserfont.cache ===>>> delete the "com.microsoft.browserfont.cache" file.
Thanks in advance for any and all guidance.

I would strongly recommend becoming more familiar with and more comfortable within Terminal and the command line environment, and preferably sooner rather than later; before you need it.
The cmmand line environment is the native environment of Mac OS X and Mac OS X Server, and it is the core of how the server operates, and the command line is particularly central to troubleshoot Mac OS X and Mac OS X Server if (when) something goes wrong, and it is how you will configure Mac OS X and Mac OS X Server for many of its more advanced operations and features.
Bash is the name of one of the command interpreters on Mac OS X and Mac OS X Server.  It is the default command interpreter for the command line environment; what's known as the shell or command shell or command line.
The command line is also where you can write bash shell scripts, such as the two delete commands that I posted.  A shell script is a file containing command line shell commands.  That three-line shell script is a bash script flag (the so-called "shebang") and the two rm remove commands that delete the two files.
The pico tool mentioned is a text editor, and an editor with a screen-driven command interface.  That particular pico command puts you into the pico text editor for the specified filename, and where you will have command hints for the editor visible at the bottom of the display.  There are more advanced editors than pico, but pico is a good editor to start with.
Again; I'd recommend becoming a little more comfortable with the command line; that'll pay dividends far beyond deleting a couple of cache files.

  • I cannot delete two of the messages in my inbox. How do I get rid of them?

I cannot delete two of the messages in my inbox. The others go away easily.
How do I get rid of them?

Have you tried quitting mail and then trying to delete again? Go to the home screen first by tapping the home button. Quit mail by double tapping the home button and the task bar will appear with all of your recent/open apps displayed at the bottom. Tap and hold down on the mail app icon until it begins to wiggle. Tap the minus sign in the upper left corner to close the apps. Restart the iPad. Restart the iPad by holding down on the sleep button until the red slider appears and then slide to shut off. To power up hold the sleep button until the Apple logo appears and let go of the button.
Or resetting the iPad and then trying again? Reset the iPad by holding down on the sleep and home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider - let go of the buttons.
If neither of these things work, delete the emails from the server in webmail. Go to your email account via a web browser and delete it from the server. Empty the trash folder on the server as well and then see if you can delete them from the iPad or see if they have gone away.

    iPod 8GB Windows XP Pro

Did you Apply the change after selecting (checking the box for) Manually manage music and videos?
With the latest iTunes, if the sidebar is hidden, from the menu bar, under View, select Show Sidebar.
In the sidebar, select the iPod under DEVICES.  Click the toggle (to the left of iPod) to drop down the iPod's content list, indented under iPod.  Click on Music there.  Over to the right, the list of songs on the iPod is shown.  You can select songs there, right click on them, and select Delete from the contextual menu.  You can also select songs there, go up to the menu bar, and select Delete under Edit.  You can also select songs there, and just press the Delete key on the keyboard.
If you want to use automatic syncing, which is far more convenient than the manual method, and easily manage content on the iPod (add and remove songs), please post back.

  • Cannot transfer 1.57GB video file from iPod to computer

I have an iPod touch 4th gen 8GB, and am unable to transfer a video file off it. The video file was taken as a movie using the iPod's camera. I've successfully copied all the other photos and videos, but this one won't copy.
What happens is this: I drag and drop the file to copy it. It appears to start working, but the copy window 'hangs' for a minute or two, then stops as if the copy had been completed. However, the destination file is zero bytes in size. I tried 'rebooting' the iPod, and also deleting all other photos and videos off the camera roll, but things still don't work.
I'm using a PC with Windows XP, and iTunes 10.5. iPod has iOS 5.0.1 (updated in the last couple of days). iPod currently has 3.6GB available. Destination folder on the PC has loads of space.
The troublesome file is the biggest video file on the iPod, 1.57GB. The next biggest file is 457 MB (which copied OK). Perhaps I'm running into some limit on the iPod file's size?
    Any help appreciated.
    Thanks-Ralph

    - I will try a Mac (it will have OSX 10.5.something)
    - I will also find a Windows 7 or Vista PC if possible.
    - I will also try booting the XP PC into safe mode
I also tried disabling the Digital Camera Notifications as per http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1500 , in case that somehow was interfering with the copying process. It didn't make any difference.
I will post followups to all the above.
Thanks for your replies so far.

    heelllllllllllllllllpppppppppppppppp

Possibly you dont have installed audio codec which would support the mp4 file format.
    Youve got two options:
    1) You would convert the mp4 files in other format like mp3
    2) You would install an audio codec supporting the mp4.
By the way: the *VLC player* is a freeware player which supports the mp4.
So you should try this player too.

  • Cannot delete or edit Illustrator files

When I attempt to save changes to an Illustrator file, or delete the file, an error message says this cannot be done because the file is being used by another person or program. I've used AI10 for a couple of months, but this problem just started happening yesterday.
What is causing this, and how can I fix it?
I am running Windows XP Professional, but have read of this problem happening with other OS.

After poking around a bit, I found that the problem seems to be connected to the thumbs.db file, which also refuses to be deleted. So I created a new folder and copied all but the thumbs file into this one, and turned on the Do Not Cache Thumbs function. The copied files can now be edited and saved. If I hadn't wanted to turn Thumbs off, I suppose I could have created a separate folder just for the files handled by Illustrator, and never used thumbnail view.
Although I haven't uncovered the root cause yet, this is a quick fix to help me finish my project at least.
I will look into the other possible causes when I get a chance, but after a quick look, my printer settings are the same as always, and although some of the files have a dash or underscore in them, I've got hundreds of files like that and haven't experienced a problem before (not to say that's impossible, just not likely).

  • Cannot quick view 60fps video file

After upgrading to Yosemite, I realize when I use quick view (space bar) to watch some of my video files in 60fps, it's showing it 30fps instead. When I play the files using quicktime or quick view with full screen, then the video will play in 60fps. I am not very comfortable with this new setting, because I do video editing and I need to look at many video files by using quick view function, and with only showing 30fps just very annoying for me. Any solution?

    post more code
what resolution are you saving as?
what type of compression are you using?
it sounds to me like you're simply losing data based on compression and/or scaling

  • Can I join two avi video files?

    Hello,
after long search in this java forum, i don't get any solutions.
My problem is I want to assemble some avi files, and I'm not so good in JMF. So maybe anyone has a solution or a programm for me.
I'm also thankful for Tipps&Tricks or Links
    Thank you very much.
    Thomas

If you are using a Linux machine, you can use a command-line tool called AVIMerge.
I recently used it for joining individually submitted segments of a film like so:
    avimerge -o InstrumentalityPart2.avi -i 01.avi 02.avi 03.avi 04.avi 05.avi 06.avi
There's also a way to do it in MPlayer/MEncoder using stream copying and rebuilding the index, but AVIMerge is easier to use.
    Two caveats:
    - AVIMerge isn't included in the out-of-box install of most distros, so you'll probably have to download and install a copy before you can use it.
    - The AVI files you are joining have to have the same format (in the PAL vs. NTSC sense of resolution and FPS), and (I believe) the same encoding (as in "XviD with a constant Q of 2, a keyframe interval of 92...."). Basically, it only works properly if all of the videos you are joining were encoded the same way, with the same tools, and in the same format. This means that, if your individual video segments are in different formats or encodings, it's best to obtain the highest-quality copies possibe, as the re-encoding process will inevitably result in a loss of quality (though careful selection of filtering parameters can minimize some of this effect for certain types of footage).
I don't know of any Java tools that do the same thing, and am unsure of whether your goal is just to join a bunch of AVI files, or to make a JAVA app that, among other things, can join a bunch of AVI files. I do know that there is a way to use the "Runtime" object to call command-line programs from Java and wait until they terminate - which could allow you to make a Java wrapper for a program like AVIMerge or MPlayer/MEncoder.
Unfortunately, all of this is pretty much useless on Windows machines (though it might work on Mac OSX, I'm not sure).
