Cannot detect any wireless network (Mac OS X 10.6.8)

Hi,
I need help! My MacBook Pro can't detect any wireless network at all. It happened all of a sudden after 2 weeks from not using it. It works well at first after i turned it on after that 2 weeks then all of a sudden no network can be detected at all! Anybody has encountered his problem before? Any idea how to solve it?
Any help would be deeply appreciated!

Try rebooting tour wireless device as well as your modem, if no joy, try running airport utilities.
Go utilities>airport utilities, follow the prompts.

  • Mac Mini Airport Extreme - Cannot detect any wireless networks

    Hello,
Last week my Mac Mini (Power PC)'s hard disk crashed. So I did a DIY replacement. I managed to re-install all the software, and installed all the latest updates.
However, for some reason, the Airport Extreme is not detecting any wireless network after the re-install.
My own wireless network router is a third-party, which has been working well for the last 2 years. My Window PC and laptop still connects to it fine.
I can see the Airport icon but it doesn't how any detected networks (and there are quite a few in my neighbourhood). I did Apple Hardware Test and it shows the Airport card to be working ok.
    Any help would be wonderful!

It still may be possible that the antenna wire is not placed properly within the Mini. Here are an excerpt of the DIY instructions for installing the wireless antenna. Hope it helps...
    - Make sure that the antenna cables are firmly seated in the mezzanine board.
    - Pass the antenna cables through the gap at the rear of the internal frame.
    - Carefully lower the internal frame down onto the motherboard. Make sure that the wires are routed to the right of the interconnect board.
    - Snap the AirPort antenna onto the black plastic column next to the rear port panel.
    - Tape the AirPort antenna wire to the edge of the DVD drive.

  • Cannot detect any wireless networks on my HP ENVY TouchSmart m7 j120dx

    Hello,
My laptop won't pick up any wireless networks at all - I'm having what seems like a few different problems:
    1.  Because the laptop won't pick up any wireless networks, I can't of course connect to the internet without using my ethernet cable.
    2.  When I try to turn my adapter on using the F12 key, all it does is toggle airplane mode - which isn't going to help me connect to the internet.
    3.  When I go to 'Network' under PC Settings, I can toggle airplane mode but the bluetooth is greyed out and can't be toggled and it doesn't even give me an option to turn back on my wifi adapter.
    4.  When I went into the Network and Sharing Center to enable the adapter that way under 'Change Adapter Settings', I couldn't even see the adapter listed there.  All it showed was Ethernet and Hamachi because I use LogMeIn Hamachi on my computer.
By this point, I was like "Oh, great - the adapter might somehow not even be there even though it was last night," (I was online wirelessly the night before) so I went into the device manager and then expanded Network Adapters I only saw the same two Ethernet and LogMeIn adapters.
    5.  So next, I tried downloading the adapter - but the problem is, I have no idea what kind my laptop is supposed to have.  Going to the download drivers section in the support area of the hp website, I found many options and none of them seemed to work.  I also tried redownloading the Wireless Button Driver (whatever that's called) and that didn't work.
    5.  I even tried doing a system restore to a point of about a week ago - this also did not solve my problem because the same things were happening and the same things I tried above still are not solving the problem either.
I know countless other people have had the same problem(s) mentioned above (simple Google search told me that) with their HP ENVY Notebook PCs, so I'm hoping that someone can help me and finally solve this problem for me.
The model  is HP ENVY TouchSmart m7 j120dx, the model number is E8A11UA#ABA, and my computer is running Windows 8.1 64-bit.
    On another note, here's the names of the only 2 adapters that show up in my device manager list (one is for LogMeIn Hamachi);
Realtek PCIe GBE Family Controller (Ethernet)
LogMeIn Hamachi Virtual Ethernet Adapter (Hamachi)
The wireless was working fine before with Hamachi installed, so I doubt that has any significance.
If there's any other information you need that I did not mention above, feel free to ask me.  I look forward to someone replying as soon as possible and being able to find a solution to this problem for me!
EDIT: One other thing I should mention is that the wifi in my location is working fine for every other device I try (phone, gaming console, other people's laptops/desktops, etc.

    Hello dginther,
    Welcome to the HP Forums!
I understand wireless is not working properly. If the issue just began occurring, I would perform a system restore. I want you to bring the computer back to the earliest restore point possible, in an attempt to dodge whatever caused the issue. Here is a document on how to perform a System Restore: System Restore
Next, please try the steps in this HP document: Troubleshooting Your Wireless Network and Internet Connection (Windows 8)
These steps should be enough to resolve the issue. If not, you can try a manual reinstall of the driver:
    1. Go into Device Manager, then Network adapters.
    2. Right-click on the wireless driver, and select "Uninstall".
    3. Restart the computer. This will force the driver to reinstall itself.
Please let me know the results of your troubleshooting. Thanks!

  • Cannot see any Wireless networks

After installing the latest security update for 10.3.9, I can no longer see any wireless networks. I have tried reseating my airport card along with unpluging the antenna with no luck. I have also repaired permissions and trashed the Network Interface preference file, again nada. Another suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
I have a relatively new Airport Express base station at home and I have also tried testing the connection at several wireless hotspots.

I had the same problem and that's why I ventured here for the first time after an hour's battle this morning.
My solution: restart the computer. Just when the menu has gone out of sight, you get the Keychain pop-up box informing you that the airport application has been changed and whether you wish to allow Keychain access to this new version as well. Here's the tricky part. You must react within 1 (one) second to the pop-up screen and click the "always allow"-button. Once the computer has rebooted, you should have access to your Airport network once more.
Clunky? Yes. With me, the problem was even more bizarre. I could see my trusted network in the Airport drop-down menu but even if the computer seemed to connect to it, I couldn't get an IP. Sometimes the whole upper right corner icon bar would freeze if I tried connecting.
Puzzling? You bet. I'm rather perplexed as to why I couldn't just solve this problem by removing and re-adding the Airport Keychain entry with the new version. I can only conclude: thank you, Apple, for making patches that work.
Experienced people: how do I relay my bug report to Apple?

  • Wi-Fi function available - However unable to detect any Wireless Networks

    Hi All,
Yet another thread about Wi-Fi issues with the iPhone.
    --- Underlying problem I am experiencing. ---
iPhone Wi-Fi function is available. When I try connecting to Wireless Networks I receive a message detecting available network and it will not progress from there. I have waited as long as 30 minutes.
--- I have tried the following suggested fixes ---
Performed test to verify Wi-Fi availability by trying to connect two iPhones to my Home Wi-Fi network at once from the same location next to Wi-Fi Router. One successfully detected Wi-Fi networks in a matter of seconds. Mine did not.
    1) Reset Network settings through General --> Reset Network Settings (Tried multiple times) = No change
    2) Tried disabling Wi-Fi and turning on Airplane mode then powering off the iPhone. Then power back on and then turn off airplane mode and reactivate Wi-Fi = No change.
    3) Tried upgrade to OS 3.1.3 = No change
    4) Tried downgrade back to 3.1.2 = No change.
    5) Tried restoring over 10 times = No change.
    6) Also tried to manually set Wi-Fi settings --> getting error *"could not scan wireless networks".*
    7) Power Cycling Wireless Router = No Change.
--- Other Fixes I have not had a chance to try ---
    1) Reading other posts many are saying that they started experiencing similar issues after a OS update to 3.1.X.
*Solution - Downgrade OS to earlier versions.*
    2) Others say it is a Heat problem.
*Solution - Put it in the freezer*
*Solution - Disabling e-mail Push functionality*
    3) Wireless Antenna is faulty
*Solution - Buy spare and replace*
Any feedback on the fixes I have not attempted. i have to admit that I was a little reluctent to stick my iPhone in the freezer.
    Any help would be fine.
P.S. I have spoke to Apple support and they suspect that it is a hardware issue and it will cost me AUS$268 to swap the existing phone out. (I am OOW - Out of Warranty)

    Hey Beta990,
Yes tried full restore to OS 3.1.2 and back to 3.1.3 which did not make a difference. I have two desktops and two laptops connected to my Wi-Fi router. I even did a test with my friends iPhone 3G 8GB and tried connecting simultaneously next to mine and his detected my home Wi-Fi in like 3 seconds and I waited for over 30 minutes and gave up.
    But thanks for replying though.
I am out of warranty which really ***** and it will cost me AUS$268 to have it replaced at an Apple store. It sound very much like a hardware fault but I'm just hoping it is a software fault like some people are suggesting online for I don't really want to spend an extra AUS$268. (Tight I know...)
Any other suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
P.S. I tried the fridge fix... nah didn't work for me.
PLEASE IF YOU KNOW OF ANYTHINGS ELSE TO TRY POST ME.

  • X31: not detecting any wireless network

My IBM thinkpad is not detecting any network when my wireless router is on. I have checked the windows zero configration and it shows that it has started. The radio signal is also lighted and shown at the centre of the display bottom. My thinkpad is using the cisco pci wireless lan adapter and I have also check the driver, it show working. When I use a USB wireless adapter it can detect my router and connect.
Why cant my internal wireless adapter detect  my router when the radio signal is on , windows zero configration started and the pci wireless card enable already.
    Thanks,

  • Wireless Adapter Cannot Find Any Wireless Networks

    Hi,
I have a problem with my Wireless Network Adapter. As the picture shows below (cannot post image yet), although my Wireless Network Adapter is not connected to the Internet (no red X next to it), but it looks like connected!
I've tried to enable/disable it, but no luck. I tried to re-install the driver, but the same!
    So, what's the problem?
    Notes:
    - OS: Windows 7 installed in Toshiba laptop.
    - WiFi Adapter is Intel, supports 802.11a/g/Draft-N.
    - WiFi Adapter appears normally in Device Manager (no marks).

    Thanks guys for your answers.
To clarify the issue, the network adapter isn't connected to Internet, but it seems to be connected (don't know connected to what!)
When I run the command "netsh interface show interface" in the command prompt, it displays:
    Admin State State
    Type Interface Name
    Enabled    Connected
           Dedicated
    Wireless Network Connection
So, it let me be confused, what Network this Wifi adapter is connected to?!!

  • HELP!!  AirPort card not detecting any wireless networks?!?

hi, i just had an AirPort extreme card installed in my PowerBook G4, and so far, everywhere i try to access wireless, all it says is "no AirPort networks in range."
I have AirPort turned on, and AirPort and "automatic" and "DHCP"selected in Network preferences, and i have the little icon with the gray bars in the top menu bar, but the lines are always gray, even when everyone around me is getting wireless just fine.
I don't know if this matters, but i don't have a base station or anything at home - i only got wireless to use at cafes, etc, or on university campus where they have wireless. at home i just have a free dialup service, so i use a modem.
Also, i'm really confused reading these posts - everyone's talking about "naming" networks, and passwords, and IP addresses, but the apple guy said that once the card is in and AirPort is on, it should just "pick up" whatever network is available. is that true?
if it's working, does the "name" of the random, supposedly "open" and available network in the cafe/hotel/school building just magically "appear" on the menu? Or do i have to do something or configure something each time to set it up? i just really don't understand and no one seems to be able to help. and i just spent a lot of money on this card. can anyone please help???!!?!?
I even opened it up again and checked to make sure the little cable was clicked firmly into the card, and it sure looked like it was.
    thanks!!!!

Double check that the antenna cable is FULLY seated into its socket on the Airport card - doing this properly takes a fair bit of force.
If your Mac's Airport interface is working properly, indeed all you need to do is click on the Airport menu item. A list of all in-range wireless networks will be shown, and you can simply click (to connect) on the name of the network you wish to join. Just like magic!

    Hi,
Thanks for the reply. I saw the thread before I posted and I'm hoping this will be solved soon.
The main thing that worries me is that in my case, the Mac Mini is not even seeing any networks - zero in an apartment block where there is at least 5 network on the air at any time

  • No longer detetects any wireless network

    Hi
My macbook was correctly connected to the Internet via my wireless network, and then it suddenly disconnected. It no longer detects any wireless networks (and there are quite a few usually!)
I tried to turn airport off & then back on, but no change.
I then tried to reboot my macbook, but no change either.
When it searches for wireless networks, it is very slow (sluggish).
I also booted on Windows 7 (dual boot), and it has *exactly the same* problem. Leads me to believe that it is a hardware problem, more than a software one..
The only recent change: I moved from the UK to France few days ago => new ISP & new router (but I doubt this could be the source...)
Is there anything I can do?
    Replace the wireless card?
    Thanks

By the sounds of it, I've been having exactly the same problem. I will be using my macbook and suddenly the airport will drop out for no reason. Sometimes I can reconnect but often I'll have to try a dozen times or more, with the connection timing out each time. I've actually set up two differently named wireless networks at home to solve this - for a while, if one dropped out, I could reconnect to the other one. Even this has now stopped working. I've tried flicking airport on and off, restarting the airport base stations, I even have one of the wireless networks configured as WDS sending to an airport base station within a couple of metres of where I normally use my machine. Nothing works. I've tried deleting ~/library/preferences com.apple.internetconfig.plist and com.appleinternetconfigpriv.plist and rebooting - for a few times that would fix it, but not any more.
The strangest thing, though, is that if I switch user accounts, I can access the wireless networks again no problem.
It's almost like there's something that needs flushing in the user account's wireless settings - a buffer, or a cache, or something. It'll generally only happen once I've been using the machine for a sustained period of time.
I'm running 10.5.8 with Wireless Card Type: AirPort Extreme (0×168C, 0×86) Wireless Card Firmware Version: 1.4.16.2 if that's of any help to anyone.

  • My iphone 4s won't detect any wifi networks.

    Hi
My iPhone 4s won't detect any wireless networks.  It was working fine until last night when the connection dropped int he middle of me watching a programme.  At first I thought it was our router, but I reset that about 5 times, and all other devices are working fine on it.  The phone won't detect any other networks either - if I ask to join a network it comes up with the message "could not scan for wireless networks".  I have tried resetting the network settings as suggested on the support page, but it hasn't worked.  Can anybody help?  Thank you.

If no change after resetting network settings on the iPhone, try restoring the iPhone with iTunes as a new iPhone or not from the backup.
If no change after that, the iPhone has a hardware problem.

  • I purchased recently an ipad 2 wi-fi 3G and the device cannot detect any network, I turned the wi-fi on and reset the network, but still cannot detect the network

    dear friend
I recently purchased an ipad 2 wi-fi 3G. the device cannot detect any network, I do not know why. I tried to reset the network, but without any vail. could you please tell me what the setps so I can solve the problem. Another problem, I connected the ipad device with cable to my pc, but the pc is not recognizing the device. The pc only shows the pictures on the ipad.

lets start easy so the we can understand where you are in the process.  Have you set the ipad up using itunes?  if not, you need to do that first.  make sure your computer has the current i tunes version loaded, then plug the pad into the computer.  What kind of computer you using, mac or pc?
If you haven't set it up, then it does not know to look for any networks.

  • Mac Mini - Core Solo - Won't See Any Wireless network

I have a Mac Mini, first gen Intel, Core Solo, that won't see any wireless networks. However, it will see my extreme basestation, and my two airport express devices over bonjour, which makes me think that the wireless device is working.
I've reset the PMU, with no luck.
    Any suggestions?

Does an Airport card show in the system profiler?
Is Airport switched on in your mini - the Airport icon in the menu bar should show at least grey bars rather than an empty white 'fan' shape?
With Airport on, when you click on the Airport icon, does it show any network?
If you click on 'Join Other Network' and type the name of the wifi network you run, what error message does the system give?
How far away from the wifi base station is the mini? What kind of structures and environment is it in?
If you move the mini to be in close proximity to the wifi base station, does it show any signal?
When you download a copy of AP Grapher (http://www.chimoosoft.com/apgrapher.html) and run it, what does it show for signals, noise etc?
How is the mini seeing any wifi devices via Bonjour - do you have it wired into your network? If so, the fact that the devices appear via bonjour doesn't mean they are transmitting wifi, nor that they are in range.
By the way, the Core Solo mini doesn't have a PMU to reset. If you used the PMU reset procedure it won't have helped, and may actually have caused problems. The correct procedure for an Intel-based mini is an SMC reset, as follows:
-From the Apple menu, choose Shut Down (or if the computer is not responding, hold the power button until it turns off).
-Unplug all cables from the computer, including the power cord and any display cables.
    -Wait at least 15 seconds.
-Plug the power cord back in, *making sure the power button is not being pressed* at the time.
-Then reconnect your keyboard and mouse to the computer.
-Press the power button on the back to start up your computer.
