You can't delete the update and your problem probably is not in the Update.
Check to see if Location Services is turned ON. (Settings > Privacy > Location Services)
What model iPad Mini do you have? WiFi or WiFi + Cellular
Have you recently changed WiFi routers?

  • My iPad cannot determine location?

I have iPad 2. And Ican determine location in iPad settings.but in maps cannot determine location.why?

Wifi-only iPads don't have a built-in GPS chip like the cellular modelsdo, instead they rely on getting their position from the wifi router that they are connected to being in Apple's database.
There are external GPS units that will work with an iPad e.g. Bad Elf GPS.

  • My iPad "cannot determine location" on the map.

My iPad "cannot determine location" on the map. Location services is turned on for all apps.  Why doesn't this work, and how can I fix it?

If you have the wifi-only model then your location is determined by the router that you are connected to being in the database that Apple uses - only the 3G model has a built-in GPS chip. If you have an iPod that is able to get a location via your router then you could try Settings > General > Reset > Reset Network Settings and then reconnect to the network and see if the iPad then gets a location.

  • I would like to know if anyone else is experiencing issues related to location services settings. Ie; they are on but maps cannot determine location etc.

I recently experienced an issue on my ipad2 related to location services. While connected to a wifi network, I found that apps requiring location services would not work properly and I would receive a pop up notice asking me to turn on location services.  For example, the maps app would display a pop up stating "cannot determine location". My NHL gamecenter app would not allow me to watch live feeds; a pop up advised me to turn on location services. In each case, location services was in fact on.
I checked my settings, shut down the apps, restarted them, shut down the iPad and rebooted it to no avail. The internet connection was working fine as best as I could determine. The wifi network was at a guest home and the router was recently replaced. I returned to my home wifi and everything worked fine. The next day, I returned to the guest Internet connection and everything seemed to work once again. However, while watching a NHL game, during the last seconds of an overtime shoot out, I lost video and it was attributed once again to location services being disabled. Of course I checked and nothing in my settings had been altered. I went to my iPhone (3GS) and pulled up the gamecenter app and was able to watch the end of the game( via wifi connection...same network).
So, I am puzzled as to what could be causing this problem. If anyone else is having similar issues, I would like to know as well as if there are any solutions or feedback from Apple regarding this type of problem.....Dave.

As the King says, if your friends wifi router was relatively new, it likely has not been picked up by Apple's location based information database system and thus there is no location information associated with it.  So your iPad had no way of getting its location.
The wifi location databases are traditionally updated by wardriving - literally companies employ people to drive around sniffing out active wifi signals and associating an approximate location to it.  Some companies also have web sites to submit that information if owners wish to (Apple does not seem to have one though), and the various companies with wifi location databases buy and sell their information.  Bottom line is though, it can take weeks, months or sometimes even longer for a residential router to get picked up - depends on where you live (more rural, likely the longer time it takes).
When I moved from VA to NC it took up to 6 months for mine to reflect my new location (I checked it once the week I moved in, and then periodically thereafter, and it finally was getting it right after about 6 months) and I live in a pretty densley populated area (triangle NC).

  • IPad 3 with new iOS 6 cannot determine location.

I just downloaded iOS 6 for my iPad 3, and Siri, as well as Maps, cannot determine my location. All location features are enabled. Is this just a bug, or am I doing something wrong?

Hi. I had the same problem and solved it changing in the router's DHCP configuration the IP Pool Starting Address from 192.168.1.2 to 192.168.1.10. This is someway a none sense so I think that just assigning a new and different IP should work. I tried different things before, but this is the one that worked for me.
Hope it will help you, and forgive my every day worst English!

  • Cannot determine location New Mini iPad retina

message Cannot ditermine location has just started appearing on my iPad mini retina. I have the latest software and all was working well until today???? Help.
my iPhone 4s is working ok in the same location...

    Hello roger lindsay,
Thanks for using Apple Support Communities.
To troubleshoot this issue where your GPS location on the iPad mini cannot be located, I'd like you to please follow the steps found below.
    Improve GPS accuracy
GPS accuracy varies depending on the number of visible GPS satellites. Locating all visible satellites can take several minutes, with accuracy gradually increasing over time. Use these tips to improve GPS accuracy:
Make sure that you've set the date, time, and time zone correctly on the device in Settings > General > Date & Time. If possible, use Set Automatically.
Important: Incorrect settings on your computer can sync to your device. Verify the date, time, and time zone on any computer that syncs with your device.
    Restart your device.
Verify that you have a cellular or Wi-Fi network connection. This allows the Assisted GPS (A-GPS) on the device to locate visible GPS satellites faster, in addition to providing initial location information using the Wi-Fi or cellular networks.
Microcells (sometimes called Femtocells) aren't supported with Location Services.
Keep a clear view of the horizon in several directions. Keep in mind that walls, vehicle roofs, tall buildings, mountains, and other obstructions can block line of sight to GPS satellites. When this occurs, your device will automatically use Wi-Fi or cellular networks to determine your position until the GPS satellites are visible again.

  • IPad 3 cannot determine location...

I can see this seems to be a major issue with the iPad 2 something I was unaware of when I bought the new third generation iPad today, but five hours after purchase I am having the same issues. To be honest my andriod phone has issues finding where I am when on 3G in the mountains, however this does not limit functionality (unless I want to check in on Facebook, which I don't). The iPad however will not run certain apps because 'location cannot be determined'. Now forgive me if I am wrong, isn't this quite a major flaw? Surely when connected to a static wi-fi router it should be a doddle.... Why apps are only willing to work if they know my location is ludicrus.
YES, Location Services are turned on.
YES, I have logged my home router on Skyhook with MAC address (even though I think this is totally not something a general consumer should have to do to get a product working)
YES I have tried resets - hard and soft
YES I have installed Google apps and tried the map location function
NO I do not have a new router, it's been here for 7 months happily servicing my Windows 7 network & HTC android
So after all this can someone tell me why I have spent £400 on a device that won't even let me use an app because the device cannot determine 'where' I am? What a stupid system, not even the nice pixel free screen can deter from the fact that my primary reason for buying the iPad (access to great apps) is not working.
I don't want to get lynched by the Apple Brigade, however, I've been hearing for years how fantastic apple products are and are design for the user but am really struggling to see it at the moment.

Unfortunately, the ability of a WiFi-only device to determine location is, at best, limited.  Incidentally, it has nothing to do with Skyhook.  If accurate location is important to you, then GPS (which you do not have) is a requirement.  A mini-education follows.
GPS signals are separate from and completely unrelated to both the Internet and the cellular telephone network.  GPS signals come directly from the GPS satellites.  They provide signals that allow GPS receivers to calculate latitude and longitude information.  Navigation software then takes that latitude/longitude info and converts it to land mass, roads, bridges, highways, buildings, etc.
Most navigation software stores the maps right in the iPad/iPod/iPhone but a disadvantage is that the maps must be periodically updated (perhaps once every two years).  The Internet is not required to use the system but it is required to update the maps.
Some navigation software gets the maps from the Internet and requires an Internet connection to function but an advantage is that the maps are always up-to-date.
The WiFi+3G/4G iPad and the iPhone both have a GPS receiver.  The WiFi-only iPad and the iPod do not and these devices require an accessory.

  • Cannot find location with iPad 2

Cannot find location: I have an iPad 1 and a newly acquired iPad 2; even if they are side by side, the iPad 1 will find its location, while the iPad 2 cannot, and thus, lots of applications do not work. What to do ?

    Hi Ogie4139,
Since you're missing both the AirPlay and AirDrop icons from the Control Center, please try and reinstall iOS on your iPad by following the directions below.
Make sure that you have iTunes 12 or later on your computer.
Put your device in recovery mode.
When you get the option to restore or update, select Update. This will reinstall iOS without erasing your data.

  • Cannot determine location

Maps not able to determine my location

You iPad is probably Wi-Fi only without GPS and there's no router in Apple data base in your vacinity.

  • IPad 2 and Cannot Determine Location'!  Breach of Sales Legislation!

Given the iPads supposed attritributes and the apps that required 'location' - some of which I have downloaded - imagine my surprise (I am being polite) to discover that my iPad 2 - wifi only (delivered on Friday 13 May!!!!!) does no so such thing!  And yes - I have seen the forum stuff and about holding down the power key and using the red slider....... does not work!
In essence the iPad 2 is not fit for this particular attribute.  Apple?  More like sour apple!
When will this be fixed by an upgrade? Until such time as this is fixed and or an official statement rec'd from Apple all apps (inc; Apple apps and OS) requiring 'location' must be withdrawn from sale (as not 'fit for purpose') and in fact all iPad marketing material should include a caveat re 'location' - otherwise this is a clear breach of sales legislation!  As such all vendors are liable to financial penalties - especially as the problem is in the public domain.
    I am not impressed!

Routers do not "report their location." The WiFi-only iPad relies on an online database of known WiFi hotspots and their locations. It looks at the SSID's of all available hotspots and their signal strengths to estimate its position. If there isn't enough data for a fix, it can't get one.

I have reviewed this on the web and still it doesn't work.

  • IPad1 cannot determine location at home.

(OK this the third time I have typed this into my iPad)
I have QwestDSL and an Apple Airport router. I have registered my MAC address with Skyhook. My iPad usually knows where it is at, just not at home.
    TIA,
    Dave

As near as I can determine, Skyhook is no longer part of the equation.  Unfortunately, the details regarding the internet modem database are a deep dark secret.  In my case (Verizon DSL), it works but always identifies q neighbor's modem.  I have been completely unable to change that.

  • "Cannot Determine Location" after upgrading to iOS 6.1

After upgrading to iOS 6.1 all the applications that rely on location can no longer update the location, they show the old location before the update. I tested the apple map, google map and earth applications and all behave same.  I flipped and flopped settings->privacy->location services but no change.
Anyone else having the same problem?

Solved it! A full power down and up cycle solves the problem.
