Cannot disable close multiple tabs warning

I have tried to disable the warning when FF is closing multiple tabs but the warning still pops up.

Hi,
If you want to disable the warning when closing other tabs, set a preference to false:
In the Location bar, type "about:config" and press Enter.
The about:config "This might void your warranty!" warning page may appear. Click I'll be careful, I promise! to continue to the about:config page.
In the Search field box at the top, type browser.tabs.warnOnCloseOtherTabs.
Double-click the browser.tabs.warnOnCloseOtherTabs preference to set its value to false.
Warn me when opening multiple tabs might slow down Firefox: When you open a large number of tabs at once, Firefox will ask you to confirm your choice. This prevents you from accidentally slowing down your system while the pages are loading. Uncheck this option to disable this warning.
Don't load tabs until selected: Firefox will only load the active tab when it starts or restores your previous session. This can make startup much faster if you are restoring many tabs. The other open tabs will be loaded as you click on them.
When I open a link in a new tab, switch to it immediately: When you middle-click on a Web link (or hold down Ctrl while clicking with the left mouse button), the page will be opened in a new tab. That page will not be displayed and will load in a background tab. Check this option to load and display the page in a new foreground tab instead.
Show tab previews in the Windows taskbar: When you move your pointer over the Firefox icon in the Windows 7 taskbar, Windows will show you a preview of the Firefox window. With this option check marked, Windows will show you a separate preview for each tab.

• I have only one window open, and get a warning when I exit that "You are about to close multiple tabs."

I have Firefox 8 for Vista, and according to the "About" screen, Firefox is up to date. I heard this might be a problem with my plugins, so I updated them all. Still a problem. I disabled all my plugins and add-ons and still got the message.

ONLY 8 people have this problem?
Look, virtually all Mozilla's potential users are coming from Internet Exploder, which gets this ALMOST RIGHT, while FireF*x does it totally wrong. Including in webmail: there's no way I could have got to this forum without leaving 4 windows active or closing everything, including closing my mail without logging out.
ONLY 8 PEOPLE? How many thousand simply throw up their hands & uninstall yr f- nurdware over this one single issue? Not to bore you with details, but I'm hardly unsympathetic to open sources that don't look like the best argument for Micros**t and Google hegemony.
Btw, I said they get it -almost- right... It would be really nice if IE or >somebody< offered a checkbox to NEVER close multiple tabs. Look, if this bug disguised as a feature is useful to a few nurds by all means keep it as an advanced option, but PLEASE set up FireFox so it at least defaults to the real world.

• Why DOESN'T Firefox VERSION 6.0.2 warn me when "You are about to close multiple tabs. Do you want to continue"? aka "Confirm Close".

Hello. I have a Windows 7 HP Mini Netbook 32-bit. I just installed Firefox version 6.0.2 (the most updated one). Under
Tools ---> Options ---> Tabs, "Warn me when closing multiple tabs" is checked. However, when I have multiple tabs open and I click on "X" (accidentally one time), it closed Firefox. No warning at all. I tested it again and again (checking the box, unchecking it, then checking it again), and it keeps closing all my tabs without warning.
FYI...I also have a work laptop (Windows XP) and for some reason the "Confirm close" shows up when I try to close multiple tabs.
Thank you.

• I quit multiple tabs Firefox sent the warning prompt. As I was going to click save and quit I accidentally pressed the "save these settings". Now I jsut wonder, how do I turn it off, so that Fireox sends the prompt whenever I try to close multiple tabs?

This might sound stupid, but once when I was about to quit Firefox, I got the warning prompt if I wanted to close multiple tabs.. As I was going to click save and quit I accidentally pressed the "save these settings". Now I jsut wonder, how do I turn it off, so that Fireox sends the prompt whenever I try to close multiple tabs? I'm running 3.6.6 with OS X Snow Leopard.

You can reset the ''warn'' prefs on the '''about:config''' page via the right-click context menu.
browser.tabs.warnOnClose , see http://kb.mozillazine.org/About%3Aconfig_entries
browser.warnOnQuit , see http://kb.mozillazine.org/browser.warnOnQuit
browser.warnOnRestart , see http://kb.mozillazine.org/browser.warnOnRestart
To open the ''about:config'' page, type '''about:config''' in the location (address) bar and press the Enter key, just like you type the url of a website to open a website.
If you see a warning then you can confirm that you want to access that page.
In Firefox 3 you do not get the "Save & Quit" pop-up dialog if you choose Firefox > Preferences > General > Startup: "When Firefox Starts": "Show my windows and tabs from last time".
To get the "Save & Quit" pop-up dialog you have to select one of the other choices (Show my home page,Show a blank page).

• Before updating to FF 4.0, when I close, it warned me that I was about to close multiple tabs IT ALSO gave me the choice to save all open tabs (not bookmark) so they would all open once I opened FF again. Where is it???

When I close - it does still tell me that I am about to close multiple tabs... but it no longer gives me the option to save open tabs, NOT bookmark, SAVE open tabs. That way, the next time I open Mozilla, all the open tabs from my previous session would open once again. 'Save Open Tabs' is GONE - it would be very helpful to have it back. I don't use it all the time, but it was much easier to save open tabs when I wasn't able to finish what I was doing instead of having to search through the previous days history to find what I need when I start my next session!!!

Firefox now always stores the old session which you can access by going to the History menu and selecting "Restore Previous Session".
If you always open the last set of tabs, an alternative approach is this:
# Click the orange Firefox button, then select options to open the options window
# Go to the General panel
# Change the setting "When Firefox starts" to "Show my windows and tabs from last time"

• How do I close multiple tabs?

I can't seem to find an option to close multiple tabs. Always had that option in IE9, but IE9 sucks! What am I missing?
Jim

Thanks, madperson. It drove me nuts for a while, being that I'm new to Firefox. I actually figured it out by mistake right after I posted the question. Isn't that the way they discovered the wheel?

• Since installing 4.0.1 I can't right click on the Icon in my task bar and have Firefox give me the option of "close and save" the tabs. Only let's me know I'm about to close multiple tabs. How do I get "save and close" back?

Before installing 4.0.1 I could right click on the Firefox icon on my computer's taskbar and hit close window. It would then give me the option to "save tabs and quit" or "close all tabs."
Now it just alerts me that I'll be closing multiple tabs.
It was convenient to be able to close Firefox and open it with all of the tabs in place. There is nothing more irritating than having multiple tabs lost because your computer did an update overnight and restarted. Also it was helpful when you wanted to run a tun-up or cleaner that asked you close out of your browser for optimum result's.
How do I get "save and quit" back?
Thanks

Firefox now always stores the old session, and you can access it by going to the History menu and selecting "Restore Previous Session"
If you want Firefox to display the message to save the session, it can be turned back on by changing some preferences.
# Type '''about:config''' into the location bar and press enter
# Accept the warning message that appears, you will be taken to a list of preferences
# Locate the preference '''browser.tabs.warnOnClose''', if its value is set to '''false''', double-click on it to change its value to '''true'''
# Repeat this for these 3 preferences '''browser.warnOnQuit''', '''browser.warnOnRestart''' and '''browser.showQuitWarning'''
If you always open the last set of tabs, an alternative approach is this:
# Click the orange Firefox button, then select options to open the options window
# Go to the General panel
# Change the setting "When Firefox starts" to "Show my windows and tabs from last time"

• Multiple Tabs Warning on CLOSING windows is NOT WORKING, why?

Firefox used to warn me when multiple tabs where going to be closed (even in private browsing or without remembering history). Now it is closing the WHOLE window with multiple tabs inside. (Of course the option is checked in the preferences). So normally it should work. But it doesn't now. When i click by mistake on the X (close button) of the main window, it closes all the tabs without warning.

Hi,
You can try to set '''browser.showQuitWarning''' in [http://kb.mozillazine.org/About:config about:config] to true, and also change '''When Firefox starts''' in '''Tools''' ('''Alt''' + '''T''') > '''Options''' > [https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/Options%20window%20-%20General%20panel?as=u General] to anything other than '''Show my windows and tabs from last time'''.

• I'm unable to close multiple tabs

how can i close or force quit multiple tabs at once

Why are you using such an old version of Firefox? Support for that version ended over two years ago.
See if disabling the Ask Toolbar extension helps with that problem.

• Until recently, if I closed Firefox using the "Exit" menu option, it would not trigger the "closing multiple tabs" warning. How do I restore this behavior?

Up until a few weeks ago--I think when I updated to Firefox 23, though it may have been 22--if I enabled "Warn me when closing multiple tabs," the warning would display only if I closed out a window using the X in the upper right-hand corner, but not if I closed the browser down correctly from the menu. Now it's warning me when I use the menu, too. Is there a way to revert this behavior? I only need the warning if I accidentally hit the x for the entire window instead of for a single tab.

You can consider to use this startup setting:
*Tools > Options > General > Startup: "When Firefox Starts": "Show my windows and tabs from last time"

• How do I enable 'close all tabs' warning in Safari 5.1/Lion OS?

Before upgrading to Lion OS, there was a warning asking to confirm close all tabs. Now the warning is gone and I would like it back. There is no setting in Preferences, Tabs to enable this warning. Thank you.

Well, the plist key is ConfirmClosingMultiplePages in com.apple.Safari.plist. Unfortunately, it is set to <true/> just like in 10.6 and it doesn't work. It could be a bug, but given that is removed from the UI, they might have just dropped this feature and the key in the plist is just a leftover from 5.0.
I've filed bug rdar://9844047 on it, we'll see if it gets closed. I guess I just need to get out of the habit of using CMD-SHIFT-W. Of course, the other thing I used it for was as a confirmation before quitting Safari in case I accidentally hit CMD-Q instead of CMD-W. Although that isn't really the intended use case, that is what I miss the most (Reopen All Windows $ucks when you have a lot of them).
(Really, I can't use the word s-u-c-k-s?)

• Where is the option to close multiple tabs? It used to be a Right Click in the "List All Tabs" function. Now it's gone!

Well I figured out how to get the Tab Bar back where it should, down below where you can easily get to it, but now I see that the "Close All Other Tabs" option which used to be in the right click menu of the "List All Tabs" arrow has disappeared.
Is there anyway to get that back? This design change is really not as good as 3.5. Also tell that person to slow down. Who can understand what he's saying?
Thanks!

In Firefox 4 the Tab Bar is a regular toolbar and that causes the toolbar context menu to show if you right click.
You can right click the tab that you want to keep to "Close Other Tabs"

• I can't reestablish the warning for when I try to close multiple tabs

I accidentaly clicked the "Don't warn me again message" of the warning I get when I (cmd +d) close Firefox, and I can't find anywhere how to reestablish that warning, I really need this; I use Mac and Firefox 3.6.3

You can reset the ''warn'' prefs on the '''about:config''' page via the right-click context menu.
browser.tabs.warnOnClose , see http://kb.mozillazine.org/About%3Aconfig_entries
browser.warnOnQuit , see http://kb.mozillazine.org/browser.warnOnQuit
browser.warnOnRestart , see http://kb.mozillazine.org/browser.warnOnRestart
To open the ''about:config'' page, type '''about:config''' in the location (address) bar and press the Enter key, just like you type the url of a website to open a website.
If you see a warning then you can confirm that you want to access that page.

• Cannot disable "always show tab bar" in FF 28.0?

FF 19 had an option to deselect "always show tab bar" so that the tab bar is shown only when 2 or more tabs are open.
FF 28 seems to always show the tab bar. I don't see any way to disable that (unless 2 or more tabs are open).
How can I coerce FF 28 to not show tab bar unless 2 or more tabs are open?

waka wrote: "In Firefox 23 and up, as part of an effort to simplify the Firefox options set and facilitate future improvements to Firefox, the option to hide the tab bar was removed. Fortunately, this can easily be resolved if you desire the keep tabs hidden. You can install "Hide tab bar with one tab", an extension hosted on Mozilla's add-ons site".
That definitely "helps" insofar as you addressed my question dispositively.
However, I do not agree with the decision. How does removing one option substantially "simplify" things? How does forcing me to install an add-on "simplify" things for me, the customer?
FYI, I few add-ons as potential risks and a definite maintenance headache. A GUI add-on is probably more susceptible to compatibility issues.
If you want to "simplify" the GUI by removing one option from a menu (that isn't very "busy" in the first place; klunk!), at least provide an about:config option to control this behavior.
As for "facilitating future improvements", that is not my concern, a customer. Everything is SMOP.
I was in product development and maintenance for 35 years, and we always put the customer first. One of our cardinal rules was: do not remove a feature unless it is a security risk; and even then, we might leave an option to re-enable the feature "at your own risk".
Oh well, I'm probably p.i.s.s.ing into the wind. But thanks again for an accurate response.
