Cannot display certain french glyphs running in Chinese NT 4.0

I have got a java application which supports english, french, german, spanish, italian languages. I have translations properties files which is loaded for the language the application is installed in(ResourceBundle, et al). I have a new requirement to allow the application to run the chinese, korean and other DBCS languages.
The problem I face is when installing and running my application in french(or spanish).Some of the french glyphs are not getting correctly displayed in the menubar and pop up menu, while the same glyphs are displayed correctly in labels and buttons. By not getting correctly diaplyed, I mean that the particular glyph is not dispalyed at all(no garbage, rectangular boxes, etc). There are empty spaces within words. I have not done any changes to the font properties files, nor am I loading and setting fonts anywhere in the application. Also I am not setting the locale using Locale.setDefault. That means I am in the default os locale. Am I required to do some other settings to fix this problem? Below is the environment I am working in
Os - Win NT
Language - Traditional Chinese
Application lang - French
JRE 1.4.1_01

For point 1, I am working on a chinese NT, so the chinese fonts file MINGLIU.TTC is already installed.Also installed are the arial, courier, times,symbol and windings fonts as per the font.properties.zh file.
For point 2, There is already a file(font.properties.zh) file in the jre\lib directory. Could you elaborate what changes should I make to the file?
I have the internationalised version of jre 1.4.1_01 installed. The intriguing part is the french fonts are getting correctly displayed throughout the application correctly except for the menu items. There is no problem with displaying, entering chinese characters though.
I did a small experiment and used the non internationalized JRE and surprisingly found all french characters to get correctly displayed throughout the appliacation!! The problem here came with displaying certain chinese characters. But the font properties files in both the jres(internatinalized and non internationalized) were similar.

I run Acrobat 9.3.3 on my Windows 7 Pro 64-bit system with no problems. Perhaps you should make sure you have all of Acrobat 9's maintenance installed.

Web.show_document cannot display file with Chinese char in IIS 6

There is a problem that web.show_document cannot display file with Chinese char in IIS 6, but works fine in IIS 5.
Is it a server problem or is there any setting in server? Do you know how to solve it?

Hi,
As Francois mentioned, this issue has nothing to do with forms / web.show_document. web.show_document, just opens the URL specified as parameter. So, if you run the URL (that you've passed as argument for web.show_document), directly in the browser, you would be getting the same issue.
So, as you said, if it works fine in IIS 5 and does not in IIS 6, it would be an issue with the IIS and not forms. You might want to check out the IIS 6 release notes / documentation for any known issues / raise an issue in that.

Cannot display Chinese Character in ver 10.1.3

Hello,
I would like to ask one more question, when i run my program, it contain two jsp pages,
the first one is to ask the user to input some chinese character, then the second one is to display the input data in the second page. I found out that the second one cannot display the input chinese character, but other chinese character in the second one can be display.
Some of my code in the second one are as follow:
String firstName = request.getParameter("firstName");
中文 <%=firstName%>
The result are displayed are displayed as follow:
中文 ?T???\!
It seems to me that the text can display but the variable cannot display, does any one know the reason?

I downloaded the latest mapviewer package.I found the mapbuilder cannot display chinese charater properly.neither the charater readed from database,nor the charater I typed. Every chinese character is substitude by a blank square.Anyone have good suggestion?

Cannot display x11 applications on server back to my mac running x11

Something has happened recently and I can no longer display x11 application windows running on a large SGI Server back to my mac. I am connecting via a x11 xterm window with ssh. Prior to logging onto the sgi, I add it to my xhost list with a xhost + command and get the return that the machine was being addd to the access control list. I then log onto the server with ssh or ssh -Y, set the env variable DISPLAY to my mac. I then try a simple xclock to display the clock, and get a "cannot open display display" error. IP's are correct, env variables are set right. 3 weeks ago I had no problems, but now I do. Unfortunately, I remember two security updates and 10.4.6 have been installed since I last used X11. Can anyone help?

   Ah, data; that helps! You don't have to delete all of those options. The one that disrupts connections made by setting the display on the remote machine is the nolisten_tcp option. If you set that to 0 or "no", your apps can connect directly to the window server on your machine via tcp.
   However, that doesn't apply to a secure shell tunnel. I don't know what happens between-the-sheets but maybe secure shell negotiates with XWindows directly because the above setting doesn't affect the ability to do window forward through a secure shell tunnel. Of course for that you have to have "X11Forwarding yes" in the sshd_config file on the server and you're supposed to have the "ForwardX11 yes" set in the ssh_config file on the client, although I've gotten by without the latter. After that, all you have to deal with is X11 itself, or more specifically, the X11 Security Extension.
   Newer versions of X11, such as the one that ships with Tiger, have an operative Security Extension. Thus, they have more stringent requirements of dangerous applications. I don't really know how to deal with it outside of SSH but again OpenSSH will handle the negotiation for you if you use the "-Y" option instead of the -X option.

Error message "This program cannot display the webpage when uploading images to Cafe Press

I have had a Café Press shop for five years and except for sometimes being slow, no problems uploading images. Now, suddenly for 3 days I get the message "This program cannot display the webpage
Most likely causes:

• The website is encountering problems.
• There might be a typing error in the address.

I got the messsage about half way through the uploading of an image. People suggested using "firefox" instead of IE so I now get a similar error message from Firefox. I signed in, clicked on the image I wanted to upload and hit "upload" and get message as follows:
Server not found
Firefox can't find the server at members.cafepress.com.

[url=http://www.example.com]www.example.com[/url]
* If you are unable to load any pages, check your computer's network connection.

None of this makes sense because I WAS connected to the internet (obviously) or I wouldn't have been able to sign in, go to my media basket, browse for the image and click "upload" and watch as the progress bar showed percentage of upload such as 20%, etc. and even went to 100% at times before giving me the error message. Plus I couldn't make a typing error since I wasn't typing anything but uploading an image. Any suggestions?
Whatever your suggestion, I need step by step instructions as I am totally computer illiterate. I don't even know what a "proxy" is and don't know if I have a "firewall" as the message suggests. I have "Comodo" security and am using Windows XP.
I contacted CP which was no help at all. All they did was tell me to clear my cache which I do after every session. Thanks

Cannot display square root symbol in cvi

I don't understand why this would be an issue, but if I'm writing in the source window (with the default font of NIEditor), I cannot display a square root symbol "√" - every time I type alt+251, I get "v". Ok, not a huge deal in the source window, but it is a big deal if THAT is what's being stored in a string variable I'm writing out to a file. Additionally, if I use the following to format a string:
"Fmt(setpointUOM, "%s<W%cT/P3", 251);", then setpointUOM = "WüT/P3". If I display this variable in a string control, it displays as "W√T/P3", which is correct, but if I use it in a Text Box or save it to a sql database, it displays "WüT/P3" which is unacceptable.
I've tried changing the fonts but nothing works or I get even stranger results. I've been dealing with/ignoring this since CVI7 and I'm currently at CVI10. Thanks for any help.

The difference in the display between W√T/P3 and WüT/P3 has to do with the character set that you select for the UI control. From what I can tell, only the OEM code pages map the √ symbol to character 251, so if you want to see √ for that character, you should pick the OEM character set, in that control.
Entering √ with the keyboard in a CVI window seems like a much more problematic task. When you type Alt+251 on a CVI window, the keyboard driver is converting the 251 to 118 (the letter v). I don't know why it does that, but I noticed that the code that it converts 251 to varies, depending on your input language (which you can change in Control Panel>>Region and Language>>Change keyboards or other input methods). When english is selected in the language bar, it converts it to 118. With other languages, it converts it to other codes. I tried entering the unicode value for √ directly, which is Alt+221A (to enter unicode characters using the keypad, you have to follow the steps described here). But it didn't work. It still converted it to 118. I suspect the keyboard driver is doing this because it tries to map 221A to some symbol that is valid in the code page that corresponds to the input language, isn't able to, and picks what it thinks is the closest match.
In lots of other applications (but not all) you can type Alt+251 or Alt+221A and it works just fine. This is because those applications accept unicode characters directly. Unfortunately, CVI isn't one of them. It uses code pages (a.k.a. character sets, or multibyte sequences) instead of unicode, and symbols don't have a universal meaning; they depend on the code page.
Even if all this were not an impediment, you'd still run into the problem that in CVI 2010 you cannot change the font of the CVI source window to use an OEM character set. So, you'd still see it displayed as a v or a ü. In CVI 2012 you can change the change it, and so if you were using CVI 2012 you could conceivably use the clipboard to paste the √, but there is a bug in CVI that is preventing OEM characters from being pasted correctly (I realize the description says that it affects tree tooltips, but it's also generally affecting clipboard operations of some less commonly used character sets).
So, to make a long story short, I think you should continue entering the code directly with the Fmt function, at least until this bug is fixed. And make sure that all UI controls that need to display this string are using the OEM character set.

IE + SVG = "Cannot display XML page" ?

Dear friends,
   I am from Taiwan. I have a question about SVG display on IE.
   I have a very simply SVG file as the following code. I installed Ferdora R12 with apache web server (192.168.0.8) inside my company.
I installed Tomcat 6.0 on my PC(192.168.0.100, window 7 with IE8.0). I put this SVG file on Fedora, and I can see the vector graphs through
Chrome and Firefox, but not IE(already installed SVG viewer, with the error message as following). I put this SVG file on my PC, I can see the vector graphs by IE, Chrome and Firefox through Tomcat or opening file directly. I even put this SVG file on the web server of my company, and vector graphs can be displayed well through all of IE, Chrome and Firefox.
The problem seems only happen in the situation "Fedora R12 + IE". Do you have any idea of this problem? I really need your help.

Internet Explorer7 cannot display the Webpage in forms 10.1.2.3

Hi all,
I have installed forms 10.1.2.0.2 to my laptop under Windows Vista Home Premium and followed the following steps :
1- changed virtual memory to (minimum of 2048 and maximum of 4096)
2- I updated forms 10.1.2.0.2 it to forms 10.1.3 using pathch 3 (patch ID 5983622)
3- I changed the application server Url in forms builder by choosing Edit, preferences, runtime and click on "Reset to default" button and added ?config=jpi at the end of the line.
when i run the form I got the message "Internet Explorer cannot display the Webpage"
when I called the link http://Computer_name:8889/forms/frmservlet?config=jpi
I got a message asking me to allow downloading java plug-in 1.4.2 ( which I know that it is not certified with Vista), So i refused downloading and updated the formsweb.cfg file as Steve Cosner said in his thread Vista Jinitiator problem
and added these new lines to the formsweb.cfg file:
