Cannot Distribute IP addesses on new Comcast telephony modem

I recently switched to Comcast for phone and internet service. The modem provided does not distribute IP address. It will also not allow the base station to distribute IP addresses. If I set the base station to be an access point and not distribute IP addresses, the comcast network will only assign one IP address to one computer on the network. Comcast technical support of course says I have to call Apple for support. Is there a magic phrase to use on the Comcast tech support to get them to have their network distribute multiple IP's to me or allow the base station to act as a router? Is it a telephony modem problem?

Often you need to blank a modem to allow it to associate with a base station over the original computer connected to it.
Power down the cable modem.
Wait 30 minutes (go and have a cup of tea or something).
Connect the cable modem to the WAN port of the Airport Extreme Base Station (AEBS).
Switch on the cable modem.
Switch on the AEBS.
Wait five minutes.
Switch on the Mac.
Use the Airport Setup Assistant in the Utilities folder to configure the AEBS.

  • Having Trouble getting airport to connect to new comcast cable modem

    Help,  I'm been at this for 2 days now.  I don't know why I'm having so much trouble.   I'm trying to transfer from DSL to  comcast cable modem and running into lots of problems getting everything to work. 
    I can't get my airport extrreme to talk to my new comcast cable modem.  I've tried everything, restart the modem, restart and reset the airport.  chaning out cables, ensuring the green light is at the cable connection of the modem and the airport. 
    I can find two issues I can't resolve.  one, the 10.0.0.1 webpage for the modem/router doesn't response, pings fail to 10.0.0.1. Yet, my computer is talking to the internet nicely using an ethernet cable to this cable modem.  I've talked to comcast for hours, to many different people, over Many hours, and they either say the box is working or hang up on me or transfering me to nowhere land.
    The airport never goes to a green front light, and airport utility and always dispay an empty  IPv4 address.  I've tried everything, and can't get the airport to renew it's DHCP license. 
    Where am I going wrong?  I've search the web, and tried the solutions I found.  Is my 3 year old airport too old? or is my comcast box bad? I checked the airport firmware and I'm on the latest version.
    After getting this working, I still have an OOMA to transfer over to the comcast modem.  Am I kidding my self?  Help please.

    ok, answering my own question, Turns out, there are three ways to do a hard reset on my airport extreme.  Only the last method worked.  The easy reset, from the  Airport utility menu ( clicking the restore default setting) didn't make my airport talk to the new comcast cable modem.  The second way, by pressing the reset button while power up didn't work. The harder third way, hold in the reset button and then plugging in the power cord did work.  and the airport is now playing nicely with cable modem.   I wasted how many hours before reading this method in the apple support pages ?  and then remember doing this trick once many years ago. 
    I also wasted a few hours trying to get ooma to talk  on the new cable modem, and the hard reset key for OOMA to play nicely with a new modem can be complicated. This method requires it to be connected and working (  plug ooma tele into the older DSL network), hook a phone to it, dial  * # * # 0 9 9, (star, pound, star,pound then 099) and saying yes.    That reset it to factory settings letting it reconfigure itself to a new modem gateway.
    I still can't get into the gateway web page 10.0.0.1 to change the admin password, Don't advertise that. I get  no reply to request or to pings.  I think some comcast rep changed a port setting so I can't reach it.  So I have an open wireless connection and unprotected. 
    I hate switching my network provider. Now I need to write it all down, for when I get fed up with comcast and decide to move to another provider.

    Whenever you make a modem change, you should plan to reset the AirPort Extreme back to factory default settings, and then set it up again to work with the new modem/router.
    The reason for this is that AirPort Extreme retains the settings that it used to connect to the "old" modem, and it is extremely unlikely that those same settings could be used effectively with a "new" modem.

    I am trying to setup a wireless network using a WRT54GX router and an Arris Telephony Modem from comcast.  I can connect to the internet ok; however, when someone uses the phone or the internet on the main computer, it disconnects my computer that is hooked up wirelessly from the internet. Any suggestions of what might be going on??

    you cordless phone may be interefering with the routers wireless signals.
    What you can try here is changing the channel either on the cordless or on the router.
    You can access the router using http://192.168.1.1 and go to the wireless section to change the channel.

  • Airport express and comcast telephony modem

    I just had Comcast setup cable modem/telephony in my new home.
    Technician set up and was only able to get the internet to work if plugged directly from modem into network card on the PC notebook.
    I replaced that cable with the airport express, got a green light. both the PC and the mac found the wireless connection and I had internet access from both.
    About 2 days later I lost my internet connection. Both machines still find the wireless and report strong connection. but no browser connections.
    Interestingly enough, the PC wanted to download some MS updates and was able to do that, but still no connection via IE, Safari, Firefox.
    Talked with several techs from Comcast, finally last night I just go the one direct connection with cable working again.
    Any other experiences like this??? I want to use wireless and just need to know what the best way to proceed may be.

    Alexkywalker, Welcome to the discussion area!
    Whenever you switch the Ethernet connection from a cable modem from one device to another you need to power down the modem. This will force the cable modem to forget the device it was talking with. The cable modem will then discover the new device and communicate with that.
    BTW, the AirPort Express (AX) has an auto-sensing Ethernet port and therefore will work with any type of Ethernet cable.

    After adding an OS installer with PowerShell, you cannot distribute the GUI option 'Distribute Content' is greyed out:

    The issue occurs with ConfigMgr 2012 SP1 and ConfigMgr R2.
    The underlying server OS doesn't matter either (tested with Windows 2008 R2 and Windows 2012 R2).
    The OS installer doesn't seem to matter either (tested with W7SP1, W8 and W8.1).
    If I add the OS installer through the GUI, then the 'Distribute Content' button is available.

  • Import from Illustrator: Cannot Distribute to Layers

    Hello,
    I have created a vector design in Illustrator on a single layer and have imported it into my Flash library using the import layers to Flash Layers option. Because I created the design on a single layer in Illustrator, the design imports as a single layer in Flash. My problem is that I cannot distribute any of the individual graphics to a new layer, even after converting them to movie clips. When I select "Distribute to Layers", a new layer is created for each of the selected graphics but the layers are empty.
    I have also tried cutting a graphic from the import layer and pasting it into a new layer but it always pastes back into the original import layer rather than the one I have selected.
    Is there any way around this or will I need to go back into Illustrator and create separate layers based on my needs in Flash?

    Hmm, that does sound like incorrect behavior. I'm trying this with a simple illustrator CS4 document (few squares and some text), and Flash CS4. It imports to the single layer of course, but when I select everything and Distribute to Layers, it moves the elements as expected. I'm guessing there must be some other factors involved here.
    Are you able to share your file? Also the versions of Flash, Illustrator, operating system and so forth would help.

  • Comcast arris telephony modem issues

    Just purchased a new AirPort Extreme. I have Comcast data and voice with a Arris Touchstone Telephony Modem. I can't get the two to work. I called ISP and they can't help because the modem is fine when it's directly connected to iMac.
    I setup another router at a friends house and it took about 5 minutes, but he has a data modem only, not both data and voice.
    Oddly after several resets and every sequence possible, I was able to get an internet connection only on my hard wired iMac, but it was the computer I used to verify modem worked. So when I reconnected to router, the internet showed green. My son's computer is also wired but no luck getting his to work.
    Any suggestions?  Btw as soon as I reset a device, I'll loose the internet between my iMac and Router and Modem.

    Having a similar problem with a new AirPort Extreme, Optimum and an Arris Modem.  Have tried everything. Have you found a solution?

    There is no Info tab in Mavericks

    Have you tried installing it or are you just assuming you cannot.  You are normally allowed to install and activate on two machines.
