Cannot do AirPlay Mirroring on Mac Pro.

I am trying to use airplay mirroring from my mac pro to apple tv (3rd Gen), but the icon does not come up.
I have tried going into system preferences, then displays, but even then it does not give me the option for apple tv. I have tried updating both the mac and Apple TV. My mac is reletively new- bought sept 2012 and has the OS X software.
ITunes will connect to apple tv, but just not airplay!
If anyone can shed some light on this, I would really appreciate it!
(Also both devices are connected to same wifi)
Thank you

He meant, this forum does not have anything to do with notebooks like MacBook Pro (though they keep coming here!) the Pro is in Workstation Professional models and 65 lbs which are not portable or laptops.

  • AirPlay Mirroring on Mac Pro

Can i use AirPlay Mirroring on my Mac Pro (mid 2010)?

yeah, it is extreme, but it's a natural reaction.  It's not about just airplay, but the whole os x itself.  I'm talking about those who bought the computer(s) about a year ago or whatever.
I don't like the fact that Apple had to make system requirement to take advantage of those features.  I understand if the computer is about 5 years or older, because of new technologies or whatever.  I've read some comments from os x ML reviews..I understand why they are so angry.

  • I have a Mac Pro13-inch, Mid 2010 and a 3rd generation apple tv. why I can not mirror my mac pro to my hdtv?

why can't i mirror my mac pro to my tv using apple tv?

    A supported Mac
AirPlay Mirroring in OS X takes advantage of the hardware capabilities of recent Macs to deliver high frame rates while maintaining optimal system performance. The following Mac models support AirPlay Mirroring::
    iMac (Mid 2011 or newer)
Mac mini (Mid 2011 or newer)
MacBook Air (Mid 2011 or newer)
MacBook Pro (Early 2011 or newer)
    Mac Pro (Late 2013)
Your computer does not meet the minimum hardware requirements.

    Please read:
    http://arstechnica.com/apple/2012/07/mountain-lion-airplay-mirroring-v-airparrot -fight/
Mountain Lion's integrated AirPlay mirroring support only works with the following Mac models:
    iMac—Mid 2011 or newer
    Mac mini—Mid 2011 or newer
    MacBook Air—Mid 2011 or newer
    MacBook Pro—Early 2011 or newer
If your Mac isn't on that list, your won't ever see an AirPlay option in Mountain Lion's menubar.
What separates these Macs from other Mountain Lion-compatible machines is that these are the only models that have support for Intel's QuickSync technology. What confirmed this requirement for me was the fact that my Retina MacBook Pro switched to integrated Intel HD4000 graphics even when otherwise running on the discrete NVIDIA GT 650M GPU. No matter what you are doing or what resolution you are running, AirPlay Mirroring in Mountain Lion requires an integrated Intel HD3000 or HD4000 graphics processor and its QuickSync technology to work, full stop.

  • Airplay mirroring on Mac Mini (late 2012) doesn't work, extended display does...

Airplay mirroring on Mac Mini (late 2012) doesn't work, extended display does... What's going wrong here?
    Details: OS X Yosemite 10.10
Apple TV 3rd generation, version 7.0
Switching Airplay on on Mac Mini works. It goes automatically on extended display mode. Switching to mirroring works for about 1 sec and then it switches back to extended display mode. On my tv screen i see my second desktop. Funny detail: it has the desktop background i used previously. Another funny detail: I had exactly the same problem when i used the previous versions of OS X and the Apple TV software...
    Who can help, please!

I also have been having problems with Airplay on my 2014 Mac Mini see Mac Mini 2014 Airplay Display Disconnect Bug?
I"ve also noticed that my Apple TV (3rd Gen) does not appear in the iTunes Airplay list on my Mac Mini whereas it does on my MacBook.
I've booked a call with Apple Support for next Sunday to discuss the issue.
If I get any useful info I will pass it on.

  • HT4428 My 128 Gb iPad cannot do airplay mirroring with Apple TV 3.  It only airplays with screen off (like iPad 1), and it can only do airplay with apps which have the airplay button.  No airplay button when sliding the bottom opened apps to the right.

My 128 Gb iPad cannot do airplay mirroring with Apple TV 3.  It only airplays with screen off (like iPad 1), and it can only do airplay with apps which have the airplay button.  No airplay button when sliding the bottom opened apps to the right!  Note : This problem persists after HDMI cable has been changed, and Apple TV was reset.  My another iPad 4 64Gb also on the same most updated ISO has no problem.

I restarted the iPad, it is okay now!  I think it is because I have been using the smart cover for too long, without shutting down the iPad completely!  It just works fine with the airplay signal appearing again after restarting the iPad.

  • Airplay, Mavericks, and Mac Pro; Option appears but screen is blank?

Upgrading my Mac Pro to Mavericks, I was surprised to see in the displays panel the option to enable AirPlay video to my AppleTV.
But while the option appears and I can select either desktop extenion or mirroring, the AppleTV just goes black.
Has anyone had success using this feature on an older Mac Pro since the update?

  • 6.0.1 : Apple tv lag when using airplay (mirror) on macbook pro...

    Hi,
I have recently bought a new apple tv (october 2013) partly for airplay (mirror) with my macbook pro.
Since the 6.0 version when i use my macbook i have some video lag..
I updated to the 6.0.1 and since.... it's worst !
I need your help i'm becoming crazy...
    1- My tv : Samsung UE40EH6030 LED 3D
    2- I'm using a 2011 mac book pro 2,3 GHz Intel Core i5 with 4gb memory (10.9 Mavericks)
3- I have checked my internet connection (best canal : 11)
    Thanks

Mac OS X 10.9.1 has fixed the problem for me.
    Pixelation is gone.
The delay between mouse/keyboard input and display is noticible but manageable.
Streaming video works well (with audio / video just a tiny bit out of sync).

  • Airplay mirroring for mac 2010 and under !!!!

I just installed OS X Mountain Lion and trying to use airplay mirroring from my mid 2010 and i found that apple disable this fueture for under 2011.
I wander why is apple does't care about all customers, only cares about the customers money. I am very disappointed that mirroring is not supported on my mac.
My macbook not exactly a slow machine, This my mac details:
    MacBook Pro
    15-inch, Mid 2010
Processor  2.66 GHz Intel Core i7
    Memory  4 GB 1067 MHz DDR3
So thank you all for your time to read it and **** you Apple

I really hope a hack comes out to allow this feature for us "older" users.

  • Airplay Mirroring on MacBook Pro ---

Why does the airplay icon on my MacBook Pro ( updated ) appear sometimes, but then disappears at other times?
Wifi works and is on, Mountain Lion update is working, everything is updated. Netflix, music, etc works but overall, the icon is on half the time??

    Mark Ibach wrote:
The AirPlay icon is showing up in iTunes, and it works perfectly. But the icon doesn't show up anywhere else.
Currently, Macs that don't support Airplay Mirrowing can use airplay in iTunes. However, any-pre 2011 Mac model cannot support Airplay Mirrowing of the desktop. Airplay in iTunes is completely different to AirPlay mirrowing in OS X Mountain Lion.

  • Airplay Mirroring on MacBook Pro mid09

I have checked and my mid 2009 2.8gz Core2Duo MacBook Pro will run Mountain Lion.  Can anyone tell me if there might be any issues using the Airplay Mirroring feature of Mountain Lion when it's running on my MacBook Pro?  i would think if Apple ok'd the system, it should work, but I don't know of any special requirements of Airplay Mirroring

Based on what I found here: http://www.apple.com/osx/specs/
    it will not work:
    AirPlay Mirroring
Requires a second-generation Apple TV or later. Supports the following Mac models:
    iMac (Mid 2011 or newer)
Mac mini (Mid 2011 or newer)
MacBook Air (Mid 2011 or newer)
MacBook Pro (Early 2011 or newer)
I have a Mid 2010 iMac and I'm out of luck.  We will know more tomorrow.

Mac Pros don't support Airplay.  Only some post 2011 Macs do, MAc Pros aren't amongst them.

You could try Airparrot software as a workaround.

  • Cannot install FCP X on Mac Pro (2,1).  Graphics card issue.

I have a Mac Pro 2,1 (2 x 3 Ghz Quad Xeon, 16 GB RAM, and ATI Radeon X1900 XT (512 MB)) AND I cannot install FCP X.  It says graphics card not supported. What do I need to run FCP X?  If I need a better GPU, what card is recommended for this machine?  It's hard to believe I can run the software on my Macbook Air but not my Mac Pro supercomputer...

Radeon HD 5770 (as inserted into the current MacPros) will do it. Make sure it's the unit bought from Apple, not a big box store.
Plenty of discussions about it, here's one:
    https://discussions.apple.com/thread/2544029?start=0&tstart=0
Your "super computer" is more of a super computer than mine, but it did start life in 2007. Things have moved on... your MacPro isn't obsolete, by any means... in fact your original graphics card is probably just about to give up anyway! Mine did last year (I had an older card in a MP 1.1) and am glad I changed it.

  • HT1338 AirPlay mirroring 2012 MacBook pro

Trouble shooting AirPlay mirroring , MacBook pro AirPlay mirroring icon keeps disappearing and disconnection occurs on apple tv , need help ?

    Hi!
I figured it out! It was a firewall issue.
I use Handsoff and I checked it before i wrote here. There was no "user defined rule" that denied the communication but when i changed to "All rules" the program displayed several rules regarding AppleTV and its IP.
So if anybody has the same problem make sure you see all rules of your firewall and get rid of the AppleTV related rules generated by the program itself. You dont need to update to the latest iOS on the AppleTV!
I hope that I can help some people with this info to fix the problem.
