Hi i am i have any ipad and i am trying to download family tree maker that i purchased online, but all that keeps co ing up is safari cannot download file can anyone help me .....bebe

I think you are trying to install a computer application to use on an iPad. You can't. They are incompatible pieces of hardware. If you want Family Tree Maker for your iPad, then you need to get that version, if it exists, from the iTunes Store. That download can't be done via Safari.

  • I keep getting error message safari cannot download file.

Every time I try to download a Mac game from Bigfishgames I get casuarina cannot download file. Also will not allow me to download app. I am a new iPad user.  Am I doing something wrong?

Correct, Safari can not be used to download files on the iPad. Also a Mac based game will not work on an iPad. Any available Apps for the iPad need to be downloaded from the App Store.

  • Cannot download iTunes onto my iPhone 4

I have an iPhone 4 and it does not appear to have iTunes installed on it.
When I first tried to find the iTunes app, I was initially directed to a page that said "Download iTunes".... but when I clicked on that link, I was taken to another page that described how wonderful iTunes was but didn't appear to have anything regarding downloading iTunes.
When I found another supposed link to "Install iTunes", the "iTunes Connect" window on my phone opens, I enter my password and get the following message: Your Apple ID isn't enabled for iTunes Connect. (2002)
I went to my Apple ID account and saw nothing about enabling my Apple ID for iTunes Connect. Then I find that iTunes Connect doesn't appear to have anything in common with trying to load a new copy of iTunes onto my phone. Very confusing to me.… I'm an all-Apple person now and this reminds me more of my days on a PC.
I have a feeling that I'm going to need to wipe and reinstall ALL the software on my iPhone? Yes?
    Thx

You cannot download iTunes onto iPhone.
Apple has iTunes (an Apple Store front for purchasing music, movies, tv-shows, etc) built-in on all iPhones, no need to download.
The iTunes that you can download is either for your Mac or PC computers, not Apple mobile devices.
iTunes Connect is for Apps Developer.

    PROBLEM SOLVED:
Go to "System Preferences" - "Sharing" - "Bluetooth Sharing" - "Folder for selected items:", and select a folder."

  • Cannot download files in IE

I cannot download files similar to what is described in this question.... <Microsoft blocked the link>
I am using Win 7 and IE 11.  When I try to download files, like WinRAR <Microsoft blocked the link> or Firefox <Microsoft blocked the link>.  Files get renamed.  For the winrar example the file gets renamed to "dl_".
Most of the time only the dot before the exe gets renamed but as you can see with the WinRAR example, that is not always the case.
Executables are not the only culprit.   I think the problem happens when the download is initiated by the website, versus right clicking on an img and downloading.  I use TaxAct and the problem happens when trying to download non-executable
files from there.  I can only assume that the files are pdf's but the rename of the file prevents me from knowing what type of files they are.
    thanks

    Hi,
Do you mean that you can successfully download these files but these files are not useful or broken? Did you see any message prompted? When did this issue happen? Did you make any changes before?
What is the security level of your IE? Go to Tools\Internet Options\Security\Interbet or trusted site, see the security level, set it to the default level.
Clear the history of IE,  run a security scan to make sure the safety of your system, change the location of the downloads, test the result again.

}This program works fine for downloading files, over both http and https from my home. When I run this on my desktop in the office it can download files over http, but cannot download https files.
When I try to download files over https, I get the foll. exception:
    java.net.UnknownHostException: www.site.com
    at java.net.PlainSocketImpl.connect(PlainSocketImpl.java:153)

    at sun.net.www.protocol.https.HttpsClient.doConnect(DashoA12275)
There are 2 differences here, one being that my office desktop sits behind a firewall and there is a proxy in between.
In the office I run the program as :
java -Dhttp.proxyHost -Dhttp.proxyPort TestServlet URL [filename]
    eg.:
    java -Dhttp.proxyHost=235.67.138.84 -Dhttp.proxyPort=8080 TestServlet https://site.com/portal/Downloads/file.csv file.csv
This url requires authentication, the userid and pwd are hardcoded in the code.
Now, my problem is I cannot understand why this error would come. Is it because of the firewall or because of the proxy ?
Why is it that I can download over http successfully from my office desktop? If the problem is with the firewall or proxy, then even http protocol urls should give the same problem.
    Please help.

If you are using HTTPS you should be setting
    https.proxyHost
    https.proxyPortnot the http.* ones.

  • Can't delete a .zip.download file on desktop

I got this file while downloading files from my Outlook Web Access. The files were moved to a folder but this file remains on my desktop and doesn't allow me to trash it. Any help is appreciated.

Open the Terminal in the Utilities folder. At the Terminal's prompt paste the following:
    sudo rm -rf ~/Desktop/
Now drag the file icon into the Terminal window. Press RETURN. Enter your admin password when requested. It is not echoed to the screen. Press RETURN again.
You can also see if it can be removed using Trash It! 5.1.
If all else fails visit The XLab FAQs and read the FAQ on resolving Trash problems.

  • HOW DO I SAVE A DOWNLOADED FILE ONTO AN EXTERNAL FLASH DRIVE PLEASE?

I'm a recent convert to MAC and I am finding it a real struggle to do very simple things.  I have information I want to move from the MAC to my PC and thought I would do it with a Flash Drive - easier said than done.  I found a You Tube video that talked me through erasing the Flash Drive using Disk Utility so done that.
All I want to do is to copy a file onto the Flash Drive but I have no idea how to do this very simple task........are you sensing my absolute frustration here!!!!
I tried pulling the Flash Drive from Disk Utility to Desktop - can't do this!  I have the file on my desktop and tried dragging it over to the USB in Disk Utility - can't do that either...........
Anyone help me please....I can't understand how to do the simplest of tasks with this MAC
Any help would be really appreciated.
    Thanks
    Trish

Thanks Niel, that was really helpful and I've just saved it.  This MAC takes some getting used to.
    Thanks again

  • Cannot download files - or even post here?????????

I started a topic in this thread that I couldn't download files any longer from sites such as Rapidshare - after a few minutes of downloading at 56.7 kbps the connection appears to be lost and the download rate drops to zero. If I attempt to re-download I get to maybe 4 or 6 mb then the connection is lost again. This happens every time on every file and no matter how long I leave it the connection does not restore, so file downloads are now impossible.
I'm on BT broadband and they say the line is fine with a connection speed of 576 kbps download, but there appears to be some kind of intermittent break which loses the connection - web browsing is fine but there are a lot of blue address bar hang-ups and error messages "lost network connection" or "Safari could not connect to the server" which never used to happen. I have made no changes to the Mac other than Apple's own software updates.
When I tried to post this earlier I got the Safari can’t open the page “http://discussions.apple.com/post!post.jspa” because it could not connect to the server “discussions.apple.com” message.. as usual... so it took me two attempts to even post... anyone else having these problems, and what's the cure or cause?

It appears I cannot edit this message despite being logged in and able to reply, so here's a post-script I was not allowed to add earlier:
P.S. - here's an interesting point - when I went to close Safari I got the "download in progress" message - my two test downloads have not yet stopped having been running in the background all this time although the total downloaded, 6.4 mb and 12.9 mb are unchanged with a total running time estimated as 17 hours 13 minutes left. The download speed is now 3.1 kbps per second. Why are my downloads so constricted as to be almost impossible??? I can't fathom this at all....
Why couldn't I edit my own message despite being still logged in? Something very funny is going on here...

  • Cannot download files from the internet

Two G4 Macs, both on OS 10.4.6. Desktop (ethernet connection) will not download files/apps -- hit the button and it very quickly flickers and says "done" but nothing has downloaded. Laptop (Airport connection) will download correctly from the same sites. Have repaired permissions, and have tried turning off firewall (Norton) with no result. Obviously some setting in the desktop, but I'm perplexed...

    G4 iMac   Mac OS X (10.4.6)

    Hi Michael,
hit the button and it very quickly flickers and says "done" but nothing has downloaded
That description sounds like a bad/incompatible SpeedDownload installation. Do you recall installing that in the past?
Either way, try going to http://www.yazsoft.com -> Downloads and then download the installer by control-clicking/right-clicking on the download link and choose "Download Linked File". Once downloaded, run the installer, but select the Uninstall option.
Give your browsers a restart and retry after trying the uninstallation.
Edit: All Comp's are Model T's, try the same procedure as well. Hopefully $5 will be on their way to me

  • IE11: Cannot download files or add search providers

I am cleaning a friend's Windows 7 SP1 laptop that got infected with a bunch of Conduit and MySearch toolbars. I cleaned it with MalwareBytes, AdwCleaner and MS Safety Scanner, dumped Norton and got MSE. I then noticed some issues with Internet Explorer
    11:
I can't download files. Clicking a link or right-click and "Save target as..." does nothing. No errors, prompts, toasts or anything. Acts like I did nothing. Images can still be saved.
I can't open the download manager. Neither the menu option nor Ctrl-J do anything at all. Entering "shell:downloads" in the address bar opens the Downloads folder in Explorer, but I can't get to the normal download manager.
I can't add a search provider. Adding through the gallery or using a button on a search engine's homepage results in the message "The search provider could not be installed." It suggests that a required file couldn't be downloaded, the site is
not available, or I'm not connected to the Internet.
Search suggestions don't work, at least for Bing, the only search provider I can get. They also didn't work when I copied in the registry entries from a Win8 machine to add Google manually. I just get "[search provider] Suggestions: An error occurred."
Search providers don't have their icons. I currently have 2 copies of Bing, and both just have a generic magnifying glass icon.
Browsing is very often slow. Every page load stalls for a few extra seconds on "Waiting for [site]...". I'm pretty sure it's not a problem with the network in general or with the whole system. Both IE on other computers and Chrome on this computer
    load pages without this delay.
    So far, I have tried:
Started with add-ons disabled and/or run as administrator.
    Cleared personal stuff, reset IE.
Disabled and re-enabled IE in "Turn Windows features on or off".
sfc /scannow says everything is okay. Before running the System Update Readiness Tool it said there were corrupted files it couldn't fix.
Dism /Online /Cleanup-Image /ScanHealth, which found 4 "corrupted" packages that according to http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/windows_7-windows_update/cbs-mum-package-naming-issue-causing-false/9cd9b2e0-0377-46dc-9d2b-5b9d7fedac4a
are false positives caused by differing number of tildes in their names. Apart from those 4 it gave the system a clean bill of health. System Update Readiness Tool says the same thing.
Uninstalled IE11 through "Uninstall a program", in the Windows Updates section. I now had IE10, which exhibited exactly the same issues. Attempting to reinstall IE11 resulted in an unspecified error.
Uninstalled IE10 the same way, hoping to revert to IE9 or 8 and reinstall from there. I now found myself with no Internet Explorer at all. "Windows cannot find 'iexplore'", remaining shortcuts like the no-addons one were broken, and it was even
missing from "Turn Windows features on or off". Attempting to reinstall IE10 or IE11 failed. I couldn't find a download of IE9.
Used System Restore to bring back IE11. Obviously this returned everything to the broken state it was in before I uninstalled.
Anyone have anything else I can try? (And no, there aren't any restore points from before the toolbars got in.)

    Hi,
Based on your description, your computer had serious problem.
I would like to suggest you use the original installation media to repair your installation.

    That sounds odd...
Any error messages? What happens when you try to download an item? Have you tried downloading to a specific, non-desktop, folder?
