Cannot download iPod Software 1.2 with firewall and iTunes7

I am able to browse the iTunes Store and download songs. When I connect my 5th gen iPod, I get a note that there is new iPod Software. Then it tries to download and puts up a dialog with error: "iTunes could not contact the iPod software server because you are not connected to the Internet."
I am able to connect to the Internet through Safari with my current http and https firewall settings. What port is used to download iPod software so I can add it to my firewall settings?

I got it to work by going under the itunes menu and clicking "check for updates" and then it downloaded the update and then it asks if I want to update the ipod. It seems like itunes is getting ahead of itself by trying to update ipods without having the update downloaded yet....

Since days I try unsuccessfully to download the iPod software version 1.1.1 for my brand new iPod nano 8GB. I allways get an "unknown error -23" after having connected to the download server. My internet connection is absolutely fine.

Hi I noticed that you replied to that long thread:-) I try not to respond to that thread anymore out of consideration for the person that started it, especially since his issue was solved.
There are a few things that will prevent the Uninstaller/Installer of Flash Player from doing either. Especially in IE, due to that ActiveX Control that needs Installed.
Glad you were able to find the solution and put your thread up. Info from the many user's solutions is helpful for everyone:-)

I can't download the software that came with my ipod

I'm having trouble downloading the software that came with my photo ipod 20G even though i have windows 2000 professional. It comes up with a message when the cd starts loading saying that i need a higher form of windows. I think it might have something to do with the SP4 business but I don't even know what that means, let alone how to find out whether or not I have it. And if i don't, does anyone know how i could and would it be as difficult as changing to windows XP. (My mum said it cost her $1300 changing it at work)

First, plugged into a wall power socket.
You go to
Settings > General > Software Update
to update the new IOS 6.1.2

Did you download the new iTunes update that was also released this afternoon? That might be the problem. The new iTunes update came out today as well as the new iOS 7 update and if you haven't downloaded the new iTunes update it may be a compatibility problem so if you didn't, first update to the new iTunes and try again.

Assuming you trust the source of your application, in System Preferences > Security & Privacy > General you can check the "Anywhere" box under "Allow applications downloaded from". You may want to reset the security setting after the download.
