Cannot download iTunes 10.6.1 on Windows 7 64 bit

I am trying to download iTunes 10.6.1 onto my Windows 7 64 bit PC and get the message that the installer has insufficient privileges to access this directory: C\ Program Data\Microsoft Windows\Start Menu\Programs\iTunes. The installation cannot continue. Log on as administrator or conatact your system administrator.  I am the administrator for this personal PC and am logged in as such.  Anyone have any ideas how to get around this snafu??

I had this problem and struggled quite a bit with it, it was beyond frustrating!
I finally did the following to get it to work:
1)  I completely uninstalled everything Apple related.. iTunes, Quicktime, Apple Mobile Device Support, Bonjour, etc.  reboot the computer so everything is out of memory, cache etc...
2)  I plugged in my apple device and installed the drivers for the device (in my case it was an iPhone), and then rebooted.
3)  When started up, I got a notice that I needed to update my apple installations, from Apple Software Update, which was essentially the same thing as installing everything fresh as I had previously taken everything off my computer
4)  When I ran all of the installations from the Apple Software Update then I had no problems at all.   This is the key to the solution...to run it from Apple Software Update, vs downloading the installation off of the website.
I am not sure if plugging the device in first helped or not, and/or if you could just pull down apple software update from the website, but that was what I did, so I thought I had better list it.
Hopefully this works for others, as I was at the end of my rope.  It appears that the download from the Apple website has some sort of glitch for Windows 7 64 bit that the Apple Software Update does not.
Good Luck!
Becky

    Hello PamelaFox14,
Thank you for using Apple Support Communities.
It sounds like you need to log in as the administrator to update the iTunes application properly.
Take a look at this article named:
Trouble installing iTunes or QuickTime for Windows
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1926
    This section in particular:
    1. Make sure you have administrator account access
To install iTunes or QuickTime software, you need to be logged in as an administrator on the computer. If you're not sure if you have administrator account access, you may find this Microsoft article helpful:

Otherwise, refer to the Help documentation from Microsoft, contact your IT department, or visitsupport.microsoft.com for more information.

    What happens when you try?
Seriously, if you want help, being vague is a good way to get lots of snarky responses or just flat out be ignored.

I can't answer that. I'm just a user. Apple makes it decisions and does not share that with anyone here as you well know. Apple has also stopped supporting syncing contacts and calendar with the latest version of OS X, Mavericks. Users have to use iCloud. Many are not happy about that. Let Apple know how you feel here: www.apple.com/feedback and click on the appropriate link.

    Hi Gurmo,
HRESULT: 0x80073712 means ERROR_SXS_COMPONENT_STORE_CORRUPT, and it is one of the error codes listed at this
    KB article.
I suggest you run the System Update Readiness tool and check if the error still persists.

Unfortunately, this sort of trouble has gotten more complicated to deal with ever since Microsoft pulled the Windows Installer CleanUp utility from their Download Center on June 25. First we have to find a copy of the utility.
Let's try Googling. (Best not to use Bing, I think.) Look for a working download site for at least version 3.0 of the Windows Installer CleanUp utility. (The results from mydigitallife and Major Geeks are worth checking.)
After downloading the utility installer file (msicuu2.exe), scan the file for malware, just in case. (I use the free version of Malwarebytes AntiMalware to do single-file scans for that.)
If the file is clean, to install the utility, doubleclick the msicuu2.exe file you've downloaded.
Now run the utility ("Start > All Programs > Windows Install Clean Up"). In the list of programs that appears in CleanUp, select any QuickTime entries and click "Remove".
Quit out of CleanUp. Restart the PC, and try another iTunes install. Does it go through properly this time?

  • Cannot download iTunes onto my iPhone 4

I have an iPhone 4 and it does not appear to have iTunes installed on it.
When I first tried to find the iTunes app, I was initially directed to a page that said "Download iTunes".... but when I clicked on that link, I was taken to another page that described how wonderful iTunes was but didn't appear to have anything regarding downloading iTunes.
When I found another supposed link to "Install iTunes", the "iTunes Connect" window on my phone opens, I enter my password and get the following message: Your Apple ID isn't enabled for iTunes Connect. (2002)
I went to my Apple ID account and saw nothing about enabling my Apple ID for iTunes Connect. Then I find that iTunes Connect doesn't appear to have anything in common with trying to load a new copy of iTunes onto my phone. Very confusing to me.… I'm an all-Apple person now and this reminds me more of my days on a PC.
I have a feeling that I'm going to need to wipe and reinstall ALL the software on my iPhone? Yes?
    Thx

You cannot download iTunes onto iPhone.
Apple has iTunes (an Apple Store front for purchasing music, movies, tv-shows, etc) built-in on all iPhones, no need to download.
The iTunes that you can download is either for your Mac or PC computers, not Apple mobile devices.
iTunes Connect is for Apps Developer.

  • I own 3 ipod shuffles and 1 ipod nano and cannot use because I cannot download itunes.  I keep getting error 2 message.

Cannot download itunes.  Keep getting an error 2 (Windows error 2) message.  Cannot fix this problem

Hi..I went ahead and ran the Windows Installer Cleanup Utility. I used it to remove "Adobe Reader 7.0.8." After doing this, I checked in "Add/Remove Programs" in the Control Panel to make sure that AR 7.0.8 was gone, and it thankfully was. Then I deleted the WICU, ran CCleaner's registry cleaner, rebooted, and tried to install Adobe Reader 9.0. When I tried this, I got the following error message (this occurred during the time when the installer was "writing system registry values"):
    *****ADOBE READER 9 INSTALLER INFORMATION
Error 1402. Could not open key: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Classes\CLSID\{C523F39 F-9C83-11D3-9094-00104BD0D535}\ProgID.
Verify that you have sufficient access to that key, or contact your support personnel.*****
What should I do now? Do I need to do something about the "permissions" for this key?
    Thanks to anyone with advice...
