Please forgive me for asking stupid questions but I have just switched from the Windows world to MAC
Can I buy and download Lion Server to my MacBook, and then install it on my Mac Mini Server with Snow Leopard later.
The real problem is that the server is located in Spain - with a 'slow' internet connection and I'm now at work in Hannover (Germany) and I would like to save the 5-6 hours of download in the weekend and simply download now and install later.
Is that possible/legal ?

You can install Server on any Mac that meets the following requirements:
Mac computer with an Intel Core 2 Duo, Core i3, Core i5, Core i7, or Xeon processor
2GB of memory
10GB of available space

i recently got a Mac mini server with Lion server preinstalled. Is there a way to redownload server (without using the restore function) since neither Lion client, nor Lion server do appear in the Mac App Store as "purchased"?

Thanks, but how does the disk assistant help me to download Lion server? As far as i understand the disk assistant helps me to recover my hdd, but i will have to redownload Lion+Server over again. That is what i do not want to do everytime i reinstall Lion Server.
What i want is having Lion and Server on an external drive, so in case of reinstalling i do not have to download it, but can install from the external drive.

I cannot upgrade lion server to mountain lion server. i get an message that Server can't be installed on "Server HD" because Mac OS X version 10.8 or later is required.

Now that Mountain Lion is out, you can't buy older versions of OSX directly from the Apple Store. However, you can try calling Apple (1-800-MY-APPLE) and tell them that your hardware doesn't support Mountain Lion. I'm sure they still have copies of Lion. It's not like they destroy all traces of previous versions of OSX every time a new version is released.

Cannot download lion

I have been trying to download the Lion update from the app store, but having issues
I have left it for whole, until eventually it says 'cannot download, check internet connection'
so then I try with wired internet thinking it may be the wireless, still get the same issue even leaving it over night
I have and am download big updates from other places such as Adobe with no problems, but my app store purchase just will not download
makes it harder as I don't think there is a way to see the download progress is there?
Any tips atall, or is this a general problem with downloading several GB updates

Just an update! no further forward!
Spent 55mins with apple tech support, they had me trying to download moutain lion in safe mode = same error, created a new user account, deleted the system config file, tried downloading = same error, logged in to restore mode to re-install lion = different error, could not find software/authorisation.
They want me to try updating the other mac we bought to see if the download goes on there = same error! So it must be a mac app store error, as both new imacs allowing downloads of Final cut pro, aperture, pages and keynote with no problem what so ever over the same network connection. Tech support was talking about other options to restore whole computer, yeah great like I have the time to do that over my network.
Still to have phoned them back to say the other mac has the same error! I am not a very happy chappy! I love apple but this is really beginning to **** me off!

Cannot install Lion Server

I launch Server.app, click 'Continue', accept licence, 'Continue', it asks for my admin user/pass which I give then click again on 'Continue'.
Then, it stops forever at 'Configuring services'.
In console, I have 7 lines like
authorizationhost : SFBuiltinEntitled: Server.app is not entitled for com.apple.ServiceManagement.daemons.modify
(the 7 only differs after 'for') then one with
com.apple.SecurityServer : Failed to authorize right 'system.install.app-store-software' by client '/System/Library/PrivateFrameWorks/PackageKit.framework/Versions/A/Resources/in stalld' [481] for authorization created by '/Applications/Server.app' [460]
But, I entered my regular user/pass, the same account I used to buy Lion Server; the same I use to update software. So, why my admin account is not enough to configure Lion Server services?
Any ideas are welcome!

after upgrading from 10.8 to 10.9
i had due several problems so i need to reinstaall the complete system hurray :-/
now i'm back on 10.6.an when i try to download 10.7 again through the app store

It says that they cannot complete my order. The error code says:INSTALL_ERROR_DISTRIBUTION_SIGNED_BY_APPLE. Everything is up to date. The MacBook meets all the requirements. Why can't I download it?

I'm having the same problem, but in Lion 10.7.1, and I have a "workaround" that solved it for me.
Create a new user with administative priviledges (or use an existing account - other than your own - with admin. privs.) and log in. Then I was able to download the updates.

Windows 7 users on AD cannot mount Lion Server shares

Mac mini server 10.7.4
Local users set up (NOT Active Directory users, nor is it tied to AD services--by design)
All shares set to AFP and SMB.
Mac users can log in and access the shares fine. I can connect on my Windows 7 fine but mine is not connected to the domain.
AD users cannot access the shares using the \\[ip-address] line in Windows Explorer. Windows 7 wants to put the domain in front of their name which doesn't result in a connection. I've tried to use the "other account" feature and that fails too. Per an older support article, we tried the [subdomain]\[server name] in that "other account" line and that failed too.
There's something in the way Active Directory credentials are stored on Windows 7 that's preventing my users from accessing their shares.
Short of connecting to the domain (which is NOT desired at this point), is there anything I can try to connect these users to the server? Ideas?

Do you mean that if you restarted the server then users can log on to their PC's? If so, the issue most likely caused by third party software, such as antivirus software. Please refer to the thread below to troubleshoot the issue:

I cannot download Lion form app store

Every time I try and download the program it tells me I cant completed purchase because the program needs 2 gigs. I have over 245 gig free on my mac what is up with that.

Those are two different requirements.
2 GB refers to chip memory which is on Apple menu -> About This Mac.
Lion also requires 7 GB of hard disk space. And it has been found that it works best if an additional 15% of your hard disk space is free, as an arbitrary finding. Thus if you have a 100 GB hard disk, at least 22 GB should be free before you attempt it. Additionally, check this tip if you might run into any other pitfalls:
