Cannot download Mail

I have suddenly lost my ability to download mail. I can access it from my Windows machine and from my iPhone. I ran disk utility (verify, repair, permissions, etc.). No help, problem persisted. Did a reinstall of Lion. No help. Everything checked out except that before and after reinstall I got this message when I ran Repair Disk Permissions:
Warning: SUID file “System/Library/CoreServices/RemoteManagement/ARDAgent.app/Contents/MacOS/ARDAg ent” has been modified and will not be repaired.
I don't know if this has anything to do with the mail download problem, but it is the only thing that I could find to identify the possible problem.
One other thing:There is a "Warning ⚠" sign next to the Inbox and Trash folders. How do I fix this?

Hi! I'm happy (no, overjoyed) to report that I have finally solved the problem of not being able to download my e-mail. (I had already set up a Genius appt. for tomorrow, but I refused to give up). I had tried everything of which I could think, and that you had suggested. Following this thread shows all that you and I had tried. I kept digging, and digging, and digging, and ultimately found that, inexplicably, Keychain did not update when I changed my e-mail account password. I updated Keychain and signed into e-mail and, lo and behold, there was my full inbox.
I certainly hope that this will give others with this problem a tip as to where to look for a possible solution.

Cannot download Mail from ISP Web Mail Page. Help please?!!

Mail 2.1.3
Last night suddenly my mail stopped downloading new incoming mail from the server web mail page.
I have spoken to my ISP/server (they have an excellent Mac tech team.) and the settings for my account are correct, and Connection Doctor says all is well.
I can send mail, well I have not had any response from people yet to know they got it! But a test to myself goes into my web mail page and will not download either.
My ISP says they wonder if it is problem with the Mail application.
I do not want to do a clean install, and risk losing any data.
As it was all of my old mail in my inbox and Trash, I had kept from people as a reminder, that went when we altered the settings temporarily but when that did not work we went back to the original settings.
I hate having to have a web page open as well as my mail when replying to a person.
Any ideas?
Or if it is a Mail problem might it work if I used a different mail application such as Eudora or Thunderbird?

Might be Apple, but I'd try re-applyimg the latest update...

Cannot download mail from the server after a particular date

Hi, I just set up my pop3 account on the Iphone. That was easy
I started downloading the mails. It download all the mails till Wednesday morning and then just stopped. Since then I've tried to re-install the email account, download the mails again, reboot the handset but nothing seems to work. Each time it only downloads the mails till Wednesday morning and stops there.
My Gmail account on the other hand works fine and is up to date with the email notifications.
Any advise on how to go about this?

Most POP3 clients delete messages from the server on download. Are you positive you don't have another mail client set up somewhere (on your home or work computer) that may have already pulled them down and deleted them from the server?

Cannot Download Mail for Exchange software

When clicking on the <Download> button on the

Cannot download mail after updating to 31.3.0

Having recently updated to Thunderbird 31.3.0, I can no longer retrieve my office mails (hosted by Gmail). I press Shift-F5 and get the error "Unable to connect to your IMAP server. You may have exceeded the maximum number of connections to this server. If so, use the Advanced IMAP Server Settings dialog to reduce the number of cached connections."
I did as instructed, reducing the original value from '5' to '1' in incremental steps, all without success.
As a test I tried to add in my personal Gmail account, but got an error message that my email address and password could not be verified.
Could the internet connection settings be the cause? It has always been "Use system proxy settings" as with the previous versions of Thunderbird.

Reverting to ver 24.6 completely solved the problem! Woohoo!
Hopefully the developers can have a look at what changes were made to ver 31.3.0 that made it unable to work. My mails are hosted on Gmail servers, so I'd reckon many people would face this issue as well.

I'm having problems too. Cannot download mail on iMac, get prompted to enter password again and again. Can access mail through iCloud.com though with the same password. Must be a server problem.

Mail.app pops up saying "Cannot get mail" but the emails are downloaded normally....

mail.app pops up saying "Cannot get mail: The user name or password for "iCloud" is incorrect", that is not true because i can log in on iCloud.com with the same credentials setted in mail.app. But the strange thing is that i can get the email! Let me explain: mail.app download the emails normally but when it check for incoming mail and there are no one, the alert pops up.
This is not a critical issues, i can get the emails anyway, but that alert is really annoying.
I've alredy changed the password of my appleID to a new one, but nothing changed.
Has anyone had the same problem and managed to solve it?

i would suggest deleting and readding the mail account in settings > mail contacts calendars

My e-mail screen has frozen showing the message "cannot download the attachment". Touching the "OK" button does nothing.

My Ipad e-mail screen has frozen while trying to download a photo attachment. An error message "cannot download attachment" is on the screen but touching "OK" does not clear it. Any suggestions please?

1. Double tap the home button to bring up the multi-tasking view
2. Swipe the app's windows upwards to close
3. The app will fly off the screen

Windows Live Mail - Cannot download BT Yahoo Mail ...

I've been trying on and off for about 4 hours to download my btinternet e-mails to Windows Live Mail.
BT web mail is working correctly (sending/receiving).
I have numerous accounts set up in WLM so that all my btinternet, gmail and hotmail e-mails are all in one place.
All 9 of my btinternet mail accounts stall on Finding host... and the message eventually shown is The connection to the server has failed.
My 4 gmail account and 5 hotmails accounts DO download to WLM.
(Although I dont use Outlook Express anymore, I have my main btinternet account still there. So I launched OE and that too stalled on Finding host...).
So does anyone know - are there known problems today with server?

Same issue for about 3 days now. Web mail working but cannot download incoming emails with windows live mail.
BT support bl**dy useless as usual and we have to pay for the priveledge of using it . . .
The solution offered in one of the links below is for Outlook 2007 - will this solution work with Windows Live Mail? Is peerblock still recommended? How do we know when our email has been migrated away from Yahoo and what are the email client settings we need to use?
Any advice will be grateful, and the more detailed the better as I am reasonable tech savvy but not an IT guy :-)

Cannot download blueyonder emails to both iPhone and Mac Mail

Up until very recently I was receiving blueyonder emails on both my Mac Mail app on my MacBook and on my iPhone.
Now the emails will only download to the device it hits first. So, if I receive emails on my iPhone overnight, they wont be received on my MacBook/Mac Mail app when I switch it on and vice versa.
It's a blueyonder (virgin media) email account using POP3.
Macbook is running Mac OS X 10.5.8
Iphone 3G running 3.1.2
Any ideas what to do to receive the emails on both devices?

Hi I had the same problem a couple of weeks ago. They have posted a solution on their website it's just hard to find!
All you have to do is in your phone mail settings you have to add "recent:" before your username (I've put it before address and description as well just incase)
so for example:
recent:[email protected]

Important information for customers who download Virgin Media Mail using several email programs or on different computers or devices
To access your messages with multiple POP email programs, use recent mode in every client to make sure that all messages are made available, rather than only to the first client to access new mail. Recent mode fetches the last 30 days of mail, regardless of whether it's been sent to another POP client already.
To enable Recent mode, replace '[email protected]' in the Username field of your POP client settings with 'recent:[email protected]' and ensure that the Leave messages on server option in your POP client is enabled.
POP Download settings - keeping copies in your webmail inbox when you download messages to Outlook or other programs
By default, when messages are downloaded by Outlook Express or other email programs, Virgin Media Mail is set to keep Virgin Media Mail's copy in the Inbox. This means that we keep a copy in your webmail inbox so it can be accessed online via webmail, or by other email programs on different computers or mobile devices.
If you want to change this, you can go to Forwarding & POP/IMAP within Settings, and next to When messages are accessed with POP select one of these options in the drop-list:
- archive Virgin Media Mail's copy
- delete Virgin Media Mail's copy
If you chose to keep or archive Virgin Media Mail's copy, these messages will eventually fill up your mail quota, but remember that with Virgin Media Mail you do have lots of space.
Please note that some email programs may be set to delete your messages when they are downloaded, but the setting within Virgin Media Mail will override the options set in your email program.
