Cannot download Mavericks

I click on "free upgrade" under the Mavericks update in the App Store.  Then a window keeps dropping down saying "Download for Free?: This item will be added to your purchases and will be available even if your family sharing status changes." I click Download and it continues to keep coming down and asking me the same thing, preventing me from upgrading? HELP!

I have exactly the same problem! and @jreiner no i dont have any download/install restrictions on my computer!

It can be a long download, so keep trying. My first download was at 3 am Cupertino time and took less than an hour. The second took close to three hours one evening.

I only have one video project that I ever published to iDisk. It didn't have any music or photo files attatched to it, just a few clips stitched together. I can play these clips right now in the Event Library (so I know the source files are on my computer), but strangely, under the Project Library, the project is not there. I'm almost certain that I didn't store the project on iDisk; I just completed the video and published it to iDisk (as a .mov file I think) for family to see. I've tried to figure out how to get iDisk to stop looking for this project to no avail.
I don't know if others have experienced this, but if I click on any project and on the menu bar select Share --> Remove From --> Media Browser... it lists iPod, iPhone, iPad, tv, Computer and MobileMe. Why would MobileMe be an option here? This is the case for any video project I select. Didn't iLife '11 and/or OSX 10.8 remove all mention of MobileMe? I wonder if this is part of the problem too.
Edit: I just removed every project I have from the Media Browser. Still no luck.

    I cannot download Maverick.
Pop-up invitation said it was free.  When I clicked Download, my desktop started looking like an iPad for a few seconds, then  reverted.
All subsequent attempts via the App Store at download have been met either with the gear turning for just a second then disappearing, or no response at all.
No files have appeared in my Downloads folder.

  • App Store requires 10.9 but I cannot download Mavericks without the App Store.  HELP!

I did a fresh install of 10.6 and the upgrades got me to 10.6.8 but the included App Store from the upgrades requires 10.9.  I cannot download Mavericks without the App Store.  How do I find an old version of App Store or install Mavericks without the App Store?  HELP!

Click the Apple  top left in your screen.
From the drop down menu click:  About This Mac
Double check to make sure you see: v10.6.8
Make sure your Mac can run Mavericks >  OS X Mavericks: System Requirements
Read prior to upgrading to Mavericks >  Upgrading to 10.7 and above, don't forget Rosetta!

  • Cannot download Mavericks from App Store - error 1004, then error 13.

I have previously downloaded Mavericks 10.9.5, but now I cannot a second time.  When I attempt to download, I get an error code 1004..hitting cancel gives me error 13. Yosemite will download, but I don't want it until the "bugs" are worked out - maybe version 10.10.2.
Have contacted technical support by phone and cannot talk to a real person, only the menu system..want a serial number for a Mac. Since my MacBook Pro is over 3 years old, says I must pay for a technical support session - $29 fee.
This is how to treat a loyal customer?  Pay for support for an App Store failure to download a free upgrade?

This advise (in theory) should work. However, there are no "hidden items", but there is a "manage" link
Clicking on that link shows me nothing other than 2 previously downloaded, and since removed, free items (free apps I tried but later removed).
There is no "hidden" Mavericks download, or for that matter, previously downloaded Mountain Lion.
(Which I also cannot download from the "purchases" page.)
There is a button labeled "Reset" which links to "Reset all warnings for buying and downloading" which I have tried multiple times with no positive result.
    No joy.

  • I cannot download mavericks!!!!

    Hi,
I have a macbook 6,1 running Snow Leopard (10.6.8) and I updated before trying to download mavericks.
To my dismay I cannot download it. When I first tried to download, the icon jumped to the dock and I left the computer but after an hour no progress had been made. I then cancelled the download in the dock and also in the "purchases" section. Now even when I restart my machine I cannot download it from app store.
I have looked everywhere on my machine and can't find it lurking somewhere so I seem to be pretty stumped.
Anyone have any good ideas or should I take this is a sign that I should avoid mavericks???!!!
    Thanks in advance!

the icon jumped to the dock and I left the computer but after an hour no progress had been made
Try here >  Mac App Store: How to resume interrupted downloads
Mavericks reqires a high speed broadband connection.
Test your download speed here >  Speedtest.net
Less than 15Mbps, you may not be able to download Mavericks not to mention the fact that if and when you need to restore OS X or repair the hard drive, that requries a broadband connection as noted here  >  OS X Recovery

  • I cannot download Mavericks and there is no Launchpad, App store, or iTunes on my Macbook Pro. What do I do?

My Macbook Pro recently had Leopard 10.5.8 oprating system, but I want Mavericks. I know that I need at least Snow Leopard or above, so I purchased Snow Leopard. I installed it once and everything looked good. I navigated to the app store, signed in, and proceeded to click download on the Mavericks upgade. An icon went to my dock like it was downloading, but it immediately paused itself and when I clicked resume, the download would not resume. I canceled the download and tried clicking download Mavericks again in the app store, but it still would not download. I went to go look at the progress in Launchpad, but I then realized that the Launchpad application was not in my dock. I opened a Finder window, navigated to applications, and searched for the Launchpad application, but it was not there either. I scoured the internet, including the Apple communities, for answers but I could not find any help at all. By this time I had sat through all the software updates and the operating system was at 10.6.8 with a "no new software" message when I checked for new software. Even then, there was still no Launchpad and Mavericks still would not download. I then proceeded to pop the Snow Leopard disc in again and reinstall. After I waited for it to finish, there is still no Launchpad and now my iTunes and App store have disappeared with a question mark on the dock in their place. After I realized this, I attempted to navigate through Safari in search of more help, but the laptop would not respond to my type and it seemed to redirect me every time I tried to post a question here in the Apple communities.
I have tried everything I can think of. Unfortunately, the rest of my family is PC and does not really have a clue when it comes to macs. I need my laptop for my work and I hope I can get answers if I post my own question instead of looking at other questions. I really need help. Thanks!

    1. Make sure iPad is using the latest software
    2. Settings>General>Date and Time>Set Automatically>On
    3. Make sure Time Zone is correct
    4. Reset iPad. Hold the Sleep and Home button down until you see the Apple Logo.

  • I cannot download Mavericks - it is stuck on "error occurred". How do I get around this?

I tried to download Mavericks but got message "Error occurred". How can I abort whatever went wrong and get a successful download?

Make sure your Mac can run Mavericks >  OS X Mavericks: System Requirements
Apps such as Little Snitch, Growl, and MacKeeper can prevent apps from downloading
Disable anti virus software if installed
Make sure the firewall is turned off in System Preferences > Security & Privacy > Firewall

  • I cannot download Maverick - I'm told to sign in under the account with which I started.  I am signed in!  I don't know what to do from here.

I'm unable to download Maverick.  I'm told to sign under the account I used to purchase it.  I am signed in under my Apple ID.  I'm signed in with iTunes.  I don't know what else to do.  Has anyone else had this problem?

Thanks for trying, but I've done that.  It matters not, I keep getting the same message about signing in with same account used to purchase it.  I've had the same account since I bought the iMac.  So, I'm stymied.

  • Cannot download Mavericks from App Store

    Hello to all,
I just want to download OS X Mavericks from App Store and I get a simple error message:
"We could not complete your purchase.
OS X Mavericks cannot be installed on this computer."
And the "Learn More" button points me to http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5842.
I am doing this from my brand new Mac Book Pro 13'' Retina (Late 2013), running Mavericks 10.9.1.
My objective is to install Mavericks on my Mac Mini (a system bought at the beginning of 2013), whose original harddrive was replaced with an SSD. That is the reason I just want to do a fresh install on it.
    Waiting for feedback.
    Thank you.
    Marius

    Hi Thomas,
I should boot a Linux distro from USB just to erase the disk, although I would expect that as an option to be provided during the setup of the Mac OS X installation process.
Anyway, meanwhile I am following this guide here: http://www.techrepublic.com/blog/apple-in-the-enterprise/how-to-create-a-bootabl e-usb-to-install-os-x-mavericks/.
While writing this response, I manage to follow the whole article and the result is successful for now: right now I am in the process of installing the Mavericks. Interesting is that after booting from the USB I also got "Your computer restarted..." error, but after that the reboot started the installation process. Then I manage to erase the SSD drive using Disk Utility provided during installation.
    Well... 5 minutes left. :-)
Again, thanks a lot for the quick answers!

  • Cannot download Mavericks - spinny-thing of doom, App Store stops responding!

    Hi guys,
It's been a very long time since I had to ask for help from the community - please excuse my username, I made my account when I was 16!
I've been running Snow Leopard 10.6.8 very, very happily since 2010. Love the OS so, so much. But the lack of security updates will become a problem as I'm an IT professional, so I guess I'm gonna have to bite the bullet and upgrade. This is under duress as I don't like any of the iOS features that have crept in since Lion, and I've spent 3 years customising SL to how I like it
However, whenever I go into the App Store and click Free Upgrade on Mavericks, that's as far as it goes. Worse, the App Store ceases responding, but it's still chewing CPU. My machine is compatible - it's an early-2008 MacBook Pro (A1260/MacBook4,1), the last non-unibody, but I get no error messages or popups. Putting the cursor over the App Store window summons the beachball, even though the progress spinner on the App Store window is still spinning. Right-clicking on the Dock icon shows it's Not Responding. Nothing seems to be downloading.
I enabled the Debug menu and both cleared the cookies and reset the application, but neither have helped (explains why it's so laggy, it's a glorified web browser!). This is what things look like after 20 minutes of waiting:
If I can't get it to download on my machine, I have a friend with a MBP who can download it for me. I want to do a fresh install anyway; I have a big USB key on order so there's no rush. I've always done fresh installs with OSes because they are so much cleaner; I am not bothered about the time it will take me to rebuild the Mac, if it means everything works properly first time then it is time well spent.
I am very technically capable and don't mind debugging this, if someone can help point me in the right direction The last logs I have in ~/Library/Logs/App Store/ are from 2011. Browsing through All Messages, I found this:
    30/07/2014 7:43:56PM    /Applications/App Store.app/Contents/MacOS/App Store[60931]    MDS Error: unable to create user DBs in /var/folders/XX/XXo5fegZExKN+HipTvCqe++++TI/-Caches-//mds
I don't know if this is related because I have a similar error for Google Contacts Sync.
    Thanks in advance!

    Back up all data.
This procedure will unlock all your user files (not system files) and reset their ownership, permissions, and access controls to the default. If you've intentionally set special values for those attributes on any of your files, they will be reverted. In that case, either stop here, or be prepared to recreate the settings if necessary. Do so only after verifying that those settings didn't cause the problem. If none of this is meaningful to you, you don't need to worry about it, but you do need to follow the instructions below.
    Step 1
If you have more than one user, and the one in question is not an administrator, then go to Step 2.
Triple-click anywhere in the following line on this page to select it:
    sudo find ~ $TMPDIR.. -exec chflags nouchg,nouappnd,noschg,nosappnd {} + -exec chown $UID {} + -exec chmod +rw {} + -exec chmod -N {} + -type d -exec chmod +x {} + 2>&-
Copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C.
Launch the built-in Terminal application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Terminal in the icon grid.
Paste into the Terminal window by pressing command-V. I've tested these instructions only with the Safari web browser. If you use another browser, you may have to press the return key after pasting.
You'll be prompted for your login password, which won't be displayed when you type it. Type carefully and then press return. You may get a one-time warning to be careful. If you don’t have a login password, you’ll need to set one before you can run the command. If you see a message that your username "is not in the sudoers file," then you're not logged in as an administrator.
The command may take several minutes to run, depending on how many files you have. Wait for a new line ending in a dollar sign ($) to appear, then quit Terminal.
    Step 2 (optional)
Take this step only if you have trouble with Step 1, if you prefer not to take it, or if it doesn't solve the problem.
Start up in Recovery mode. When the OS X Utilities screen appears, select
              Utilities ▹ Terminal
from the menu bar. A Terminal window will open. In that window, type this:
    res
Press the tab key. The partial command you typed will automatically be completed to this:
    resetpassword
Press return. A Reset Password window will open. You’re not going to reset a password.
Select your startup volume ("Macintosh HD," unless you gave it a different name) if not already selected.
Select your username from the menu labeled Select the user account if not already selected.
Under Reset Home Directory Permissions and ACLs, click the Reset button.
    Select
               ▹ Restart
    from the menu bar.

  • My iMac has Mac OS X 10.6.8 but cannot download mavericks

Hi. Trying to upgrade my iMac Mac OS X 10.6.8. I thought this will be compatible but cannot do the upgrade. Any suggestions? Thanks.

First make sure you are ready for 10.7 or later:
    https://discussions.apple.com/docs/DOC-6271
Use this guide to determine how old your iMac is:
    https://discussions.apple.com/docs/DOC-6413
If that doesn't help because you can't find the serial number, look for the Machine ID in the system profiler.
iMac 7,1 and later (mid-2007) can upgrade to 10.8.5 or 10.9.2.  Earlier can't upgrade to 10.8.5 or 10.9.2
Then only upgrade to 10.7 if you confirm your iMac is 5,1 or later (late 2006 or later).
