Cannot download McAfee software

My daughter reset her vista OS laptop to factory settings due to a software glitch. I have reinstalled the BT Broadband software but any attempt to install the McAfee download gets prevented by a message from windows saying DEP has closed the installer because of a problem.
I am not used to Vista having got XP on the other pcs, but I don't think I am doing it wrong. Some of the Windows updates keep failing to install also. Could this be a factor?
We currently have 3 laptops and 2 netbooks and we are allowed 7 on option2.Is the McAfee software smart enough to know this is a reinstalation and not a new pc and that 2 older pc's were replaced and not in use by us anymore? Any help would be greatly appreciated as my only other option at the moment is going nuclear on it.

  • Cannot download iPod Software 1.2 with firewall and iTunes7

I am able to browse the iTunes Store and download songs. When I connect my 5th gen iPod, I get a note that there is new iPod Software. Then it tries to download and puts up a dialog with error: "iTunes could not contact the iPod software server because you are not connected to the Internet."
I am able to connect to the Internet through Safari with my current http and https firewall settings. What port is used to download iPod software so I can add it to my firewall settings?

I got it to work by going under the itunes menu and clicking "check for updates" and then it downloaded the update and then it asks if I want to update the ipod. It seems like itunes is getting ahead of itself by trying to update ipods without having the update downloaded yet....

  • I cannot download this software, I cannot download this software

I am really having big problems downloading this software Mountain Lion any one give me any advise please, my internet speed has been ok for every other download. Many thanks x

Your internet speed being 'okay' is relative.  Mountain Lion is a 4GB download which can take a long time to download depending on your speed:
    Speed
    Download time
    50 kbit/s
    8.0 days
    128 kbit/s
    3.1 days
    512 kbit/s
    18.6 hours
    1.5 Mbit/s
    6.3 hours
    3 Mbit/s
    3.2 hours
    6 Mbit/s
    1.6 hours
    10 Mbit/s
    57 minutes
    26 Mbit/s
    22 minutes
    100 Mbit/s
    5.7 minutes
Most households have a connection somewhere between 1.5Mbit/s and 3Mbit/s, though some ISPs still sell sub 1Mbit/s speeds as an entry/economy level service.

  • Cannot download updated software for I Phone 3GS

When I try to download iOS5 software update to my I Phone 3GS l get a network timed out message . Does anyone have an idea why this happens?

Disable the antivirus and firewall software on your PC. If you are running kaspersky, you may have to remove it entirely. It can interfere with the update process.

  • Problem Downloading McAfee Software on G530

I just got my Lenovo G530 (with Windows XP) and now I'm attempting to download the McAfee Security Suite software that's provided for free by my ISP, Comcast. The computer lets me browse the internet, download the setup file, and begin to run it, but then the program says that it is having trouble connecting to the internet and cannot proceed beyond the initial startup of the program's installation. I checked with the McAfee site to see if I could troubleshoot the problem, but they said that the issue is a common one with Lenovo computers.
Is there anything I can do to solve this problem? Does anyone know if it is solely a problem with McAfee products, or will this happen to any program I attempt to install that requires a connection to the internet?
Thanks so much for your help!

Did you tried any other program (just in order to try) that requires online access?
If you internet works fine in general, then I could think about some issue with the application or some Port blocked for some reason.

  • Trying to download McAfee Software, Not supported???

McAfee found that your Operating System is a Unsupported Operating System You are attempting to download an Ubuntu Linux application to an operating system other than Ubuntu Linux.  To download this product, you must download from a computer using the Ubuntu Linux operating system. Why?

OS X versions 10.6.7 and later have built-in detection of known Mac malware in downloaded files. The recognition database is automatically updated once a day; however, you shouldn't rely on it, because the attackers are always at least a day ahead of the defenders. In most cases, there’s no benefit from any other automated protection against malware.
The most effective defense against malware is your own intelligence. All known malware on the Internet that affects a fully-updated installation of OS X 10.6 or later takes the form of trojans, which can only work if the victim is duped into running them. If you're smarter than the malware attacker thinks you are, you won't be duped. That means, primarily, that you never install software from an untrustworthy source. How do you know a source is untrustworthy?
Any website that prompts you to install a “codec,” “plug-in,” or “certificate” that comes from that same site, or an unknown site, merely in order to use the site, is untrustworthy.
A web operator who tells you that you have a “virus,” or that anything else is wrong with your computer, or that you have won a prize in a contest you never entered, is trying to commit a crime with you as the victim.
“Cracked” copies of commercial software downloaded from a bittorrent are likely to be infected.
Software with a corporate brand, such as Adobe Flash Player, must be downloaded directly from the developer’s website. No intermediary is acceptable.
Disable Java (not JavaScript) in your web browser(s). Few websites have Java content nowadays, so you won’t be missing much. This setting is mandatory in OS X 10.5.8 or earlier, because Java in those versions has bugs that make it unsafe to use on the Internet. Those bugs will probably never be fixed, because those older operating systems are no longer being maintained by Apple. Upgrade to a newer version of OS X as soon as you can.
Follow these guidelines, and you’ll be as safe from malware as you can reasonably be.
Never install any commercial "anti-virus" products for the Mac, as they all do more harm than good. If you need to be able to detect Windows malware in your files, use the free software ClamXav — nothing else.

  • Cannot download Bovada software. After using it for a year or so, it started getting weird, so I trashed it and have not been able to download it since. My security is set for all. It downloads, but then the message comes that it isn't right for this

Have a three yr old Mac Air and using Yosemite 10.10.1. Have used Bovada Poker software successfully for a long time. But it began to get weird so I trashed it. Now when I download, there is a white icon over the Bovada icon in the app folder and the message "You can’t open the application “BovadaPoker.app” because it is not supported on this type of Mac."
Bovada doesn't seem to be able to help, although they acknowledge that some Mac users are having this problem. Is it Yosemite? What to do?

    Had the same problem...
Saw some other (ssh) broblems beind discussed and tried the fix for them and it fixed my "You can’t open the application “BovadaPoker.app” because it is not supported on this type of Mac."
    Try this
    cd /Applications/BovadaPoker.app/Contents/
    sudo chmod g+rx BovadaPoker

FYI – I can get the downloader to start downloading the MAC .dmg file without a problem. Thanks for your help!
    Cheers!

Hi and Welcome to the Community!
Interesting...well, I am downloading it right now with no 404, which would I think rule out a problem at the RIM webisite end. So, the only thing I can think of is that there is something in your internet routing that is somehow blocking it. Maybe you should start over from this point:
    http://us.blackberry.com/apps-software/desktop/?lid=us:bboftwareesktopSoftware&lpos=us:bboftware
I was also going to comment that RIM does not yet support Desktop Software 7.x, but that seems to have changed sometime today!
    Good luck!

that one can sometimes be caused by pop up blockers or web acceleration software.
