Cannot download.... once read in download.. file disappears and cannot get icon

I attempted to download Firefox on my IMAC desktop. I watched it download in my download folder. I could not however get that process finished as just when it was almost completed... It disappears?? I also could not get the icon to load to my applications folder on my prior attempt.

That is rather distressing considering that I do not own or have access to an iOS device. So far after these many months (a year already ?) of using (or not using), I must admit that I am not an iCloud fan and really miss MobileMe. Any suggestions on how to use the service for docs? I honestly could care less about music or photos. Another service is probably going to be the answer, I bet.

Turn off the Firewall in System Preferences > Security (or Securtiy & Privacy) > Firewall
If you have anti virus software installed, you may need to disable that before downloading.
Restart your Mac and try again.

This is sometimes caused by Bad Blocks on the Hard Drive.
If 10.7, hold down Command-R at startup, and choose Disk Utility.
If 10.6 or earlier, boot to the Installer/Utilities DVD, answer only the "what language" question and wait for the MenuBar to be drawn. Choose Disk Utility from the Utilities Menu.
Select your Hard drive by Make & Model and check the SMART Status (lower right of the right window). Choose "Repair Disk" . This ONLY examines and repairs the Directory area of the drive, but may improve things a bit. If errors cannot be repaired, you may need a stronger tool, or a new drive.

To disable that feature it will depend on whether or not you sync everything in the cloud using Apple's iCloud, OR if you both use the same desktop/laptop computer with iTunes. Reports are that this is a problem with the iTunes Store that they're working on. Some people have had success after signing out of their account and back in. If that doesn't work for you, wait a few hours or perhaps until tomorrow and by then they may have the problem sorted out.

When using Pages, I can't seem to print an envelope. I use file, then print, and see the printer icon come up in the dock showing it received the info but then quickly disappears and nothing gets printed. When I check the printer queue there is nothing

Bear with me, I've not done this before. I can't seem to reliably print an envelope when using Pages. I go to "file" click "print", click "ok", see the printer icon flash in the dock with a red "1" (indicating a printing job), but then the icon disappears and nothing gets printed. I checked the printers queue and there is nothing there. The funny thing is, after many times hitting "print", twice I've had envelopes printed. ??? What's the secret?

Have you tested it from other software, such as TextEdit to establish that it is in fact Pages that is the problem?
Step us through Print Setup... and what you select when you send it off to print.

You can load envelopes from the multi-purpose sheet feeder. Your appliaction software must be set up to print the envelope size you are using. This is usually done in the Page Setup or Document Setup mebnu of your software. Refer to your appliaction manual

You need to reinstall the App Store.
Use Lion Recovery to do that.

It seems some zip files get automatically unzipped and then the zip is nowhere to be found. How do I adjust the settings to do with downloading files? Any help would be great...rob

You can use the Finder to "Archive" any single file or a folder of files to create a .zip (compressed) file of those contents.

The period is missing between download file name and extension

I thought maybe this was just a problem with a couple sites where I was downloading files but now it seems to be happening with all of them. For example... when downloading my statement it downloads as statementpdf when is use to download as statement.pdf
