Cannot download Yosemite installer. Says click CONTINUE. There's no Continue button!!

Hi
My iMac died. Wouldn't reboot. I'm now booting to an external drive with Yosemite 10.10 on it.
My Time Machine backup failed to restore (never but the wifi time machine. If you forget to turn off internet sharing it never backs up!)
The failed backup had wiped the iMac HD so I had no choice but to install Yosemite over it.
I open mac App Store. Go to Yosemite.
Click on Download.
anyone noticed a problem? THERES NO CONTINUE BUTTON!!!!
The Learn More just goes to a requirements page and OK just closes the alert.
CMON this is basic testing 101!!
I luckily had the install app on another laptop but its 5GB so slowly moving it from laptop to yosemite running on external usb!!..slowwwww

I cannot open any documents in InDesign after downloading Yosemite.  Says I need Java 6.  I have Java 8 and still doesn't open.

It may seem strange indeed, but yes, you have to ALSO install the older version 6 for Apple's system; other applications will use your Java (which I believe is now even 9) and others will use that version 6.

  • How to keep downloaded Yosemite Installer App

RE: Create a bootable installer for OS X Mavericks or Yosemite - Apple Support (support.apple.com/en-us/HT201372) last modified 2/12/15
Related to the 3 steps beginning with  'Download the OS X Installer app from MAS', my experience (after  many attempts trying different things, including using terminal command, but was unsuccessful with that as well ... I have done this easily with Mavericks so I am somewhat familiar the process, as well) is that the downloaded Yosemite Installer proceeds immediately form installation to bootup, and there is no opportunity to 'grab' the install app before the installer deletes.  Like moving it to Utilities folder or renaming it.  Seems that with Mavericks, you would get booted in, and the installer would leave the App alone, until the first time you use the installer to install on another volume,  at which time the file gets deleted unless you have previously moved or renamed it. Would appreciate your thoughts. Probably me overlooking something, but have run out of ideas.
    Running MBP mid-2012 with 10.10.2

Thanks for your reply. Sorry for not responding sooner.  Nothing I tried worked, so finally (duh) contacted Apple tech support who provided these steps:
    (1) Bootup from internal startup volume (I had been booting up from external drive, and Apple tech support said no-no)
    (2) App Store>Purchases>Download OS X Yosemite (i.e., full OS X installer dmg file)
    (3) Logged in as Admin, use Terminal command line:
    sudo /Applications/Install\ OS\ X\ Yosemite.app/Contents/Resources/createinstallmedia --volume /Volumes/Install\ OS\ X\ Yosemite --applicationpath /Applications/Install\ OS\ X\ Yosemite.app
[where ‘volume’ and ‘applicationpath’ obviously must correspond to any changes to name/location of the downloaded dmg file.
    (4) As I remember, took maybe 45-60 minutes to complete creating the bootable installer on thumb drive (needs to be at least 8 GB).

  • Cannot Download Yosemite - error message

I tether my iPhone to my iMac for internet access and downloads of software, etc.  While trying to download Yosemite several days ago, the download stopped "froze," with "calculating" appearing for how much time remained in the download.  It just stopped there.  So I hit the "pause" button, and have been trying the last two days to get the full download.  I tried again today, and the download started, kept bouncing back and forth regarding how much had been downloaded, and then it stopped, with a drop down menu appearing, saying there was an error in the download.  In the meantime, because of this download, I cannot access any of my files in Pages unless they have been listed under recent.  When I try to access the file, the App download site appears.  And it says that I have three incompatible apps, showing Pages, Keynote, and Numbers.
Can I use my Time Machine backup to restore my Mavericks operating system, and thus gain access to my files until I can get a proper download of Yosemite?

You may want to temporarily take your iMac where you can get a high speed Internet connection, if you have an Apple Store or AASP reasonably close take it there. Trying to use your phone as a high speed connection to download a major upgrade is not the best solution.

  • Cannot download Yosemite

I have been trying to download Yosemite from the Mac App Store all morning - even had a chat with tech support.
Running an iMac, 21.5 inch, late 2009, with OS X 10.9.5. I have reset the SMC, the PRAM and started up in the safe mode five times and continually get the same error message:
We could not complete your purchase. The product distribution file could not be verified. It may be damaged or was not signed.
I wish the safe mode would work and here's the deal, if I log out of my user account and create a new user account, I can download. But why can't I download to my account? AND....if I create this second account and download to that, will the software update be across the board through all accounts, or only when I log in to the dummy account?
    Thanks for your quick responses.

If you download and install Yosemite, you do the install by providing the admin password.  The Yosemite install will be the only operating system and will be used by all user accounts.
You should be able to download by logging in to your admin account.

  • My MacBook is running Snow Leopard 10.6.8, and I have 2 GB of memory and 80  GB of available space, but I still cannot download Yosemite?  Any tips?

I have tried to download Yosemite, I've checked my software, memory and available space, and I keep getting the message that it won't download on my computer.

Choose About this Mac from the Apple menu, click on More Info, and check the model identifier against the following, which are the earliest Macs of each type that can run Mountain Lion and newer:
    iMac7,1
    MacBook5,1
    MacBookPro3,1
    MacBookAir2,1
    Macmini3,1
    MacPro3,1
    Xserve3,1
A Mac older than those listed which has a Core 2 Duo(not Core Duo) or better CPU and at least 2GB of RAM can run Lion 10.7, which is available by clicking here. Neither Yosemite nor Lion support PowerPC software such as Microsoft Office 2004.

  • Cannot download yosemite wants other apple id

When first attempting to upgrade from 10.6.8 to Yosemite the computer complained of an inability to repair the disc. A backup was done, the computer's disc was reformatted, 10.6 was installed and the data were restored. Now that the disc tests are clean we can't download Yosemite from the store. It asks us to sign into the account used to purchase (which is the same apple id used to download in the first instance). How do we:
Delete the existing 'purchase' so that we can redownload?
Figure out which account the App Store thinks we used to make the purchase?
Find an alternate method for downloading and installing the software?
    Thanks!

The account was logged in. The message seemed to indicate that there was another account (but there was only one, and the user was logged in).
Update: we've resolve this problem. The original install file was still on the machine, and we've successfully installed Yosemite.
    Thanks for your response!

getting an error downloading itunes 64bit for windows 7.  says there is a problem with the windows installer package.  a program required for the install to be complete could not be run.  any ideas?  i uninstalled it last night when it would not open.

Just in case, let's try a standalone AppleSoftwareUpdate.msi install.
Download and save a copy of the iTunesSetup.exe (or iTunes64setup.exe) installer file to your hard drive:
    http://www.apple.com/itunes/download/
Download and install the free trial version of WinRAR:
    http://www.rarlab.com/
Right-click the iTunesSetup.exe, and select "Extract to iTunesSetup". WinRAR will expand the contents of the file into a folder called "iTunesSetup".
Go into the folder and doubleclick the AppleSoftwareUpdate.msi to do a standalone ASU install.
(If it offers you the choice to remove or repair, choose "Remove", and if the uninstall goes through successfully, see if you can reinstall by doubleclicking the AppleSoftwareUpdate.msi again.)
Does it install (or uninstall and then reinstall) properly for you? If not, what error message do you get? (Precise text, please.)

  • Mac shockwave installation says successful but there's no shockwave folder and adobe site says not installed

    Macbook Pro (Retina, 13-inch, mid-2014)
    OS X Yosemite 10.10.1
    3 GHz i7
64-bit* (based on table found in archived Apple support article that appears as first link in google search)
    16 GB 1600 MHz DDR3 | Activity monitor says "Used: 9.58 GB (apps: 6, file cache: 2, wired: 1)"
78 GB remaining of 120 GB flash storage
    One hard disk, no external
2 admin user accounts and guest account, second admin logged out
*Sorry for saying stuff you already know. I just don't know what you don't and want to be complete.
I arrive at adobe shockwave page, which correctly detects Mac computer, chrome browser.  (Did that about 4 or 5 times)
I click download. (After first failed attempt, I'd start by ejecting install disk thing and put previous dmg file in trash)
DMG file arrives in download folder.
    I open it.
I double click on the first of the two files: Shockwave_Installer_Full_64bit (other file is uninstall | Is yosemite operating system actually 32 bit??)
    I close my browsers.
I click the "Next" buttons and agree to the thing
I type my administrator password for this administrator account
I manually choose Macintosh HD for the install location (1 time)
I go with the default option and verify that all users will have access (2 times)
I go with the default option for install location (rest of times)
It tells me what it's doing while progress bar fills and empties and repeats. Says stuff like "Moving files" "Working directory" or something, as it should.
My mac makes the install noise.
The install window says ~"Adobe Shockwave Player installed successfully"
I restart (only on one or two attempt(s))
I reopen browser, which reopens last pages
One of those pages is the chrome://plugins that an Adobe troubleshooting page told me to check.
I refresh it. There's no shockwave player. There is adobe flash player and it says "(2 files)" and version 16...
I go to the adobe page where I can click "Check now" to see whether my computer has shockwave.
Page confirms I do not have it by saying: "Sorry, Shockwave Player is either not installed or disabled on your machine."
Per some Adobe troubleshooting instructions, I prepare to repeat the process by searching for folder to delete it so that I can properly reinstall it (3 times)
There is no folder when I use finder to search "This Mac" or "All my Files"
I come to forum. I guess I will now try the really involved stuff about disabling login items and installing via a new user. I came here before trying it because the page said that those are ways to work around problems that may cause the installation to fail. But the installation window said it was successful. Did it go to the cloud?????? Did my computer auto-scrub for some reason unrelated to anything I did deliberately??
UPDATE: Tried the shift-key-during-restart-and-using-new-user but it didn't seem to make a difference.
UPDATE: I did, however, during that process, find that when I use that page in Safari to check installation, it says the latest version is installed. So maybe my question just got a lot simpler. Is this a Chrome problem beyond my own system and I just have to wait for Google to sort it out? Is Chrome somehow incompatible with Shockwave? According to a website I've been trying to use (via chrome) to complete class homework, I am missing shockwave and need it.

  • After downloading Yosemite Installation got stuck as the disk needs repair but is not available.

Now I can't access my Time machine and it has not backed up since 3 months. I am stuck as i don't know how to get back to my old OS and basically ignore the Yosemite download until I figure out what is wrong with my SSD. I successfully replaced the HDD several months ago with a Crucial 240GB SSD and had no issues at all while working on it. However, now I seem to be completely stuck: can't get back to 10.9, can't back up to my Time Machine, can't even erase the disk and lose 3 months of data because of some disc mounting issue. What a mess I have created. Please help.

    Ok everyone,
I may have a solution. I too installed Yosemite only to be stuck with nowhere to go because I couldn't repair my disk in the Disk Utility. I would verify over and over and sometimes I could click repair and sometimes it was grayed out. I would get red messages saying you can't unmout the disk, you can't repair it, etc. So, I read on another forum some chick used her CD of snow leopard and reinstalled that OS versus trying to install Mavericks again (which I tried too, but the disk was locked because it wasn't repaired). So I popped in the CD, restarted my computer and pulled up disk utility again. The first time I ran the repair function I actually got a kernel message (which is bad) and had to restart again. The second time, however, I ran the repair and it fixed it! I got a nice green message saying the disk had no issues appeared to be ok. So, I went to reinstall snow leopard and my Macintosh disk was no longer locked because it was repaired! I just installed it and I'm waiting for my computer to reboot so cross your fingers that this works.
I feel like this is good news because it makes me think that I don't actually have a hard drive issue but rather Yosemite was corrupted. I take very good care of my iMac so it would be heartbreaking if I had to put money into it when I've never had issues with my apple products In the past. Hope this helps anyone in the struggle. I'm not smart enough to hook up external hard drives and run programs or type code into the terminal. So consider this the simple man's resolution (I'm a woman). Feel free to ask me any questions, I'll check back when I can.
