Cannot Drop (but can Drag) Free Podcast into my ishuffle

please help. how do i drop my npr podcasts into my shuffle? i've read and searched this forum all over and have not had any luck.
i can play the podcast via my desktop, can drag the podcast into my library and into a seperate playlist, but cannot get the podcast to drop into my ishuffle. a symbol comes up (the slash through the circle). when i go to preferences there is NOT a tab for podcast. does that have something to do with why things are not working properly?
would appreciate help for novice user such as myself.

You may need to update the software that runs the Shuffle. Here's the download page for the current version. It's a multistep upgrade.
download the updater, run the installer which loads a new program on your computer in Start menu-> Programs -> iPod..., then run that new program and follow it's instructions to update the shuffle.

Is there an app that runs on iMac that can display movies on an NAS drive as thumbnails? I have someone who cannot read but can select from pictures what they want to do or watch

We have a person living with us who cannot read but can use our integrated AV systems with out TV's because it is all picture or thumbnail based
For movies we have on a NAS drive I would like for the person to be able to connect to the NAS drive and choose a movie
on the home AV system this is done using an interface that shows all the movies as a tile with a graphic, generally the DVD cover photo or similar
I was hoping for something similar with the iMac

The iPhoto app provides the capability to delete all the photos in the Camera Roll.

Have an MP4 video but can't get it into itunes

I have an MPEG-4 video that I want to import into itunes and then play on ipod video. The file type is fine in terms of the spec that apple says can be played on ipod video.
I have tried dragging the file into the library and 'add folder to library', as well as 'add file to library', but none of them seem to work.
I do not get any error messages, but i can not find the video anywhere in the library. Every websire I have been to says to just drag the file into the library.
Please can anyone help? thanks....

OK, have tried a different file, which I can now import into itunes. It is showing on the ipod, but without sound. I looked at other post advice, but they don't refer to MP4.

I have that site to view the podcast. But I just went to iTS and could not find the podcast. I had a colleague try on their computer and they could not find it either.
I am using iWeb to produce the podcast. I am new to this, when I submitted the podcast it had my name listed (so I thought). I looked at the tec questions and I do not understand how to get my name added? Thank you for your time helping, and I am sure I am frustrating veterans at this. Sorry, I'm trying.

Cannot import movie or audio files. Can drag jpg files into imovie though.

Hi, I recently re-installed 10.3.9 (about 2 days ago).
imovie was working just fine until i opened it this morning only to find I couldn't import anything other than picture files.
I get this message when i try.
"can't open file (insert file name here) skipping it and continuing"
When i re-open imovie i get a message telling me
"there are x amount of files that don't belong in this project would you like to move to trash"
I'm given the option to leave files alone or trash unused files.

When you reinstalled 10.3.9 did you repair permissions before and after, as well as repairing your hard disk with Disk Utility on your Install Disk?
After which I tried doing what was suggested but still have the same problem. I even tried using pacifist.
Is there an newer version of imovie available for download?

Still from iMovie appears in iPhoto, but can't get it into Avery Design Pro

I've got an album of iPhoto in Design Pro, and use photos from it, but still1.jpeg just won't go in there.
Why does the + go away when I try to move it there? I tried restarting everything, but no go. I did "reveal in finder" too.

Is this still one you created from iMovie or the thumbnail that iPhoto create when a movie is dragged into iPhoto? If it's the latter what might be happening is that when you drag the movie's thumbnail in iPhoto into DP it actually is trying to copy the .mov file. Drag the thumbnail to the desktop
If it's the former see if you can open the photo in Preview. If so, do a Save As, select jpeg and a new file name. Then try DP again. If still no go you might ask the DP people.

Cannot send but can receive mails

Hello. I have a MacBook with Mac OS X 10.4.11. I use a “.wanadoo.fr” account with an internet access through a Free internet box. So I used a pop.wanadoo and a smtp.free for the mail account. All this worked fine till 10 days ago. Now, I cannot send any mail (via the smtp.free) whereas I still receive mails (through the pop.wanadoo) and I always can surf the internet. For info : a pc which is connected to the same freebox can send mails with the same mail account. Other mistery : I ping successfully any internet address (from my Mac) but not my freebox, 2 feet away !?! And when I ping my Mac from my pc, nothing is found. As if the Mac was out of the local network. Any idea ?

Check with your ISP, many have changed the outgoing Mail port without telling anybody!

I'm writing for the Gateway Media Center. We're basically a small group of students which handles anything video or TV related for a public school district, mainly the high school. Our main editing system (Mac connected to a MiniDV deck via FireWire)is the subject of this post.
And we've got a bit of a problem. I've seen it at least once before on these forums, but no solution in that topic helped.
Basically, we can't capture video or audio with Final Cut Pro, but we can control the deck, watch audio levels coming from the deck within Final Cut, and even record edited material to tape with the deck just fine. We CAN capture with another application.
I'd like to say that NO, we have not updated anything within the past six months or so, at least not to my knowledge. (The problem started last week).
*_A detailed decription of what DOESN'T work:_*
Log & Capture window: The preview monitor within the window always shows the default color bars and the black horizontal band that roughly says 'Preview Disabled'.
*With device 'FireWire NTSC' selected:*
*Aud+Vid, Capture Now:* The black window with the whire Final Cut window opens. The bottom says 'Waiting for Timecode'. After this sits there for a few seconds, a message pops up and says roughly 'The operation could not be completed because there is no video'. The deck is automatically paused.
*Video Only, Cap. Now:* same as above^.
*Audio Only, Cap. Now:* Black window, bottom says 'capturing now', as it should, but when the Esc key is hit a message that says roughly 'ERROR: Final Cut could not read the movie file just captured' pops up.
*With 'Non-Controlable device' selected:* same as above, except that 'Waiting for Timecode' is replaced with 'Allocating Disk Space'.
*A detailed description of what DOES work:*
- Video and Audio go TO the deck, whether it's from Timeline/Canvas, Viewer, or Print to Video. I succesfully recorded an edit to tape just yesterday.
- The deck can be controlled with the JKL keys, the buttons on the Log & Cap. window, go to In point and even Batch Capture cues the tape correctly.
- Timecode is visible in the top right of the preview monitor in the L&C window, and it is the right timecode.
- Audio levels visible (in that stand-alone window which is usually to the right of the timeline) match what I'm hearing from the deck's analog monitor.
- Vidi, a simple little program, can record video which is manually cued with the deck. The saved video file(s) can then be successfully imported into FCP.
_*Trouble-shooting ALREADY attempted:*_
1) Correct turn on order: Shut everything down, unplug the deck's power, turn on and log into Mac, plug in deck and wait for it to wake up, turn the deck on, then launch Final Cut.
2) Check deck's input and output settings.
3) Unplug other FireWire devices. (We use an external hard drive connected on the same firewire bus. Not that it's ever been a problem)
4) Change Captrue Scratch location and make sure there's enough disk space.
5) Delete Final Cut Pro Preferences and that 'com.apple.finalcutpro.plist' thing.
_*Trouble-shooting NOT attempted:*_
1) Replace FireWire cable. I think it's safe to say the cable's fine since the computer can capture with Vidi, but I guess I should try this too, next time I get a chance.
2) Remove receipts and Re-install Final Cut Pro. (Really, a last resort.)
_*The specs:*_
Yes, this stuff is pretty old. Like I said, we're talking about a pulic school district, and the system usually suits us just fine.
FCP: Final Cut Pro HD (Academic) 4.5
+set up with the 'DV NTSC 48kHz' Easy Setup. Video playback on 'FireWire NTSC 720x480'. Yes, External Video All Frames.+
*The Mac:* PowerMac G4 (of what I believe would be called the MDD case model family)
OS: Mac OS X, version 10.3.9
CPUs: Dual 1.25GHz PowerPC G4, 2 MB L3 cache per processor
RAM: 1 GB DDR SDRAM
HDDs: Two drives, reportedly on the 'ATA-6' bus.
*The Deck:* JVC SR-DVM700 (3-in-1 MiniDV (with the 'PROFESSIONAL DV' logo), hard drive, and DVD-RW/RAM), 4-pin FireWire port connected to 6-pin port on Mac.
+Deck's Monitor:+ one professional CRT video monitor with built-in mono speaker, analog inputs directly connected to deck, made by JVC.
Sorry about the long post, I wanted to make it clear.
We're getting into a nice crunch as the school year is ending, and we really need to get this running. Any tips would be great!

That makes sense, but our problem started last week - Final Cut captured fine before then.
And I don't think it's been updated lately, as 7.4.5 is the latest version of QuickTime for OS10.3.9. If an update caused the problem, wouldn't the update be to 7.4.5, and not 7.3.1?

I see all of my contacts under "All Exchange" in the address book but can't get them into my iPhone.

I don't get this but 95% of my contacts are listed under "all exchange" and I can't figure out how to get them into my iphone. I have "Sync Contacts" and "all contacts" checked in iTunes but it doesn't work. There is a message that says "Your contacts are being synced with MS Exchange over the air. Your contacts will also sync directly with this computer"... After backing the contacts up, I deleted the Exchange account off of my iPhone because I left the company. Any suggestions?

Alias dropped but can still connect with the same

Hi,
I had 2 instances of sql server on server machine -
XYZ05 (SQLServer 2008R2 which was default instance and port was 1433) and XYZ05\SQL2012 (New named instance and port was 40196)
Due to some requirement we un-installed XYZ05 instance, team wanted to connect XYZ05\SQL2012 instance using default instance i.e. XYZ05. So, we created alias with same name and changed
the port from 40196 to 1433 and it was working fine.
Now, I have dropped the alias but I can still connect the server using same alias. I have checked registry, cliconfg.exe, restarted the service and server. However, I can still connect
using the alias.
Can you please tell what I missed to check or what could be the reason for alias still working?

It's because the default port 1433 is used, that's why you can only use the machine name to connect to.

ICloud Alias Cannot Recieve but can Send Emails

My [email protected] E-mail address can send but not receive E-mails. If I send an E-mail from iCloud it uses the [email protected] address as the sender but if someone replies to this E-mail the reply fails as an unknown alias. Has anyone found a solution to this?

Im assuming that you have a hotmail plus account which allows you to get access to your mail via pop?
If so, then on your iphone you need to go into settings/mail/yourhotmail/SMTP/primary server/ and ensure the password box in there is populated. This should then allow you to send mail.

How do I get the music from the I tunes store thing onto my computer I want to put some music into a presentation but can't get it into my computer files

When you say "presentation," are you by any chance talking about Power Point? If so, the music must be in one of the formats that is compatible with Power Point, which includes MP3.
The files sold in the iTunes Store are in AAC format, which is not compatible with Power Point. You can convert AAC to MP3 by following this guide:
