Cannot edit/delete a certain song

Apparently I imported a song in iTunes (9) that is write protected. I cannot edit any field (they are all greyed out when i use GET INFO), nor can I add art work (message: ArtWork Not Modifiable) and not even delete the song.
When I look on my harddisk for the file to which it is linked, I CAN delete that file, the song in iTunes then gets a ! mark to show there is no file linked, but even THEN i cannot delete the song entry.
How come?
And more important: What Can I Do?

I'm having this same problem and am somewhat happy to hear that I'm not the only one. I planned on importing some 40 CD rips today and this happenes to 1 or 2 tracks per album. I can't stress how incredibly frustrating this is. I've given up for now since the only way to get the bugger out is to, when it has the ! mark as you have moved the audio file, replace iTunes' link to that file with another audio file, and then delete its listing. Doing this over and over is too tedious and this is unacceptable. Even after this, if I try importing it again (this is all done by drag and drop by the way), the file will still claim to be totally unwritable. Yet in other programs I can edit tags with no problem!
Why is it that every time I upgrade to a new iteration of iTunes there have to be stupid new bugs in previously-existing functions? Is this Apple's way of telling me I should get a Mac? (not going to happen)

In this case if you download it from his account, you will need to deleted and download it again by your account
also delete your backup from iTunes after you delete all the apps/games that you download it from your friend account

  • TS2755 I Message functionality, cannot edit, delete or forward messages

Has anyone else found the loss of editing functions on your phone since the latest update?
You used to be able to clear a conversation, forward and edit a text message.
This function has either been removed or there is a setting hiding somewhere!!!!!
I find this messaging system very clumsy as the only way to delete is to delete the complete message and person as well.
This is inefficient especially when you are recieving numerous messages from the same people..

Thanks for this information randers4, but I really wish Apple would stop doing things like this. It maybe seems trivial to complain about such a thing, but when you don't use the forwarding command very often, by the time you need to use it they've changed the flaming thing and the message you need to forward is urgent. It has been three months since you posted this message, but I only required to do the forward this week and I was SO frustrated because I was unable to send the message. So thanks again, so glad there are people like you on here.

I ran into the same problem, I think that, If you tab on a song that is on your IPOD, and the song data is grayed-out, I think it means that the song is probably twice on your IPOD and that the iTunes directory can not edit THAT song data for two (or more) files @once. Check if this is the case, sinceI have the same problem,am looking for a way to have One and the same song in more playlists but only keep the song once on the IPOD.

  • Can't edit or delete certain songs in my library

I feel powerless. I think certain songs in my library are "locked" or something, They play okay but I can't edit any of the info or delete them. I can delete the audio file from my music folder, but I still can't delete the song.

I wish I could mark your reply offensive. I mean really? It's experiencing a moment of gayness?

  • ITunes match error (cannot download or even delete certain songs)

Im having a weird problem. At least 10 songs (all first song on an album) appear to be matched, however i cannot download them, error message "this item cannot be downloaded". even more frustrating the songs cannot be deleted from my itunes player at all. I have tried everything. I have matched over 10,000 songs but im struggling with these last few songs.

    Hi,
Have you tried creating a second library with match turned on? This will show all tracks in the cloud. Can you delete them from the cloud.? If so, provided the tracks are still on your hard drive, they will show an iCloud status as removed.
Your next option would be to try and readd to the cloud or if you can rerip those track, delete the original and replace with the new version.
Ps what format do you use? It may be worth trying them as mp3 or AAC  or vice versa.

  • My iPod won't let me delete certain songs from the device

I'm not sure why, but there are certain songs that I've bought that my iPod won't let me delete. You know when you swipe over the song and red delete button shows up? That just isn't happening for certain songs on my iPod and I can't figure out why. There's probably a simple solution hut I'm not exactly great when it comes to technology so I'd really appreciate it I any one could help me out!

    - Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost
Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.

  • Can't delete certain songs off my iPhone

A few months ago I clicked the "Show all music" it the music settings on my iPhone. After a few weeks I no longer wanted all the music to show up so I turned it off. Now I can't get certain songs off my phone. I am unable to swipe left on these songs and they don't show up on iTunes or on the One This iPhone tab. All of the songs appear to be songs that I have since deleted from my iTunes library. I have tried removing all songs from the iPhone yet the pesky songs are still there. I also tried unclicking the Sync Music in the Music tab of my iPhone but nothing seems to get theses songs to go away.
    Please help.

This will delete all the music from the device:
    Settings > General > Usage > Music > Edit > > Delete

All music is off the ipod.
When I connect to the computer to sync I still have songs that come up grey with the dashed circle.

If they were deleted from the computer and iTunes, the only way to listen to them again would be to insert the CD and listen to them from the CD or rip them from the CD again.

  • On an iPad with iTunes, do you know if you can edit/delete all your tunes on your device with a "clear all" button rather than having to delete a song one by one like you have to do on an iPhone if not synching via a MacBook/ PC with iTunes account?

I'm signed up to the Cloud and itunes match - the whole game. But I cam getting annoyed with having to delete songs one by one on my iPhone once dowloaded from the cloud as I only have a 16GB phone....yes I listen to music non-stop!  So, I am thinking about getting an iPAD as I rarely use my MacBook Pro for anything other than surfing and music now...  so the question is:  "On an iPad with iTunes, do you know if you can edit/delete all your tunes on your device with a "clear all" button rather than having to delete a song one by one like you have to do on an iPhone (if not synching via a MacBook/ PC with iTunes account where I know you can clear down and refill with ease)????

    Have you tried

  • How do I get rid of duplicate songs on my iPad that cannot be deleted?

I bought an album very recently off iTunes (Lana Del Rey - Paradise Edition), and when I sync the album along with all my other songs from my mac to my iPad, the album has every song duplicated, with the second song of every copy unable to be played and so the iPad automatically skips these songs. When I try to delete them off the iPad by swiping to reveal the delete button, nothing happens. However I can delete the original songs that were copied from which then leaves me with an entire album with every song skipping the next!
So, my question is, how do i solve this?
I've tried restoring the iPad, unchecking and checking the album between syncs, but to no avail.

Settings > Music > Show All Music > Off

  • IPhone would not let me delete individual song from library, tried deleting album to remove music from local storage, now certain songs from album do not show in iTunes match on iPhone only on computer

Upon completion of matching and uploading my very large library of music (+15,000), I wanted to see how iTunes Match worked on my iPhone. I started it and selected the first album in the list to listen to. I let it play the entire album and then decided that I wanted to remove certain songs off of the iPhone's local storage. Tried to delete the individual songs and it would not let me. So I figured that I would go back and just delete the album. After selecting delete I went back to listen to one of the songs on the album and realized that it deleted several of the songs from the iTunes Match completely. When pulling iTunes up on my computer the songs are still there but does not give me the option to upload to iTunes Match.
I have tried turning off Match on iPhone and back on (doesn't seem to do anything cause when turned off the iPhone still displays the music.)
Then tried power cycling. (Still shows the music)
Then I tried power cycling again and resyncing the phone and the iPhone still shows the music as it was on the phone.
How do I get the music to be accessable on the iPhone again.. I have been messing with this for the course of 3 hours now.. and any help would be appreciated!!
    iPhone 3GS 8GB

Actually Michael I know exactly how to delete.. The iPhone would not let me swipe to the left to delete the individual song, so I went to the album view and did it there.. The issue I am having is a bug because it removed 3/4 of the albums availablity off my iPhone.. You post proved no help because it is basic troubleshooting which, if you read my post, I have already done.. I did however figure out how to fix my issue on my own.. Basically I had to remove the album from my iTunes on my computer and upload it again to iTunes Match..

  • I want to delete my duplicate songs, but I have thousands of songs and cannot realistically go through and review and delete them one at a time.  Can I do it all at once?

I want to delete my duplicate songs, but I have thousands of songs and cannot realistically go through and review and delete them one at a time.  Can I do it all at once?

Apple's official advice is here... HT2905 - How to find and remove duplicate items in your iTunes library. It is a manual process and the article fails to explain some of the potential pitfalls.
Use Shift > View > Show Exact Duplicate Items to display duplicates as this is normally a more useful selection. You need to manually select all but one of each group to remove. Sorting the list by Date Added may make it easier to select the appropriate tracks, however this works best when performed immediately after the dupes have been created.  If you have multiple entries in iTunes connected to the same file on the hard drive then don't send to the recycle bin.
Use my DeDuper script if you're not sure, don't want to do it by hand, or want to preserve ratings, play counts and playlist membership. See this thread for background and please take note of the warning to backup your library before deduping.
(If you don't see the menu bar press ALT to show it temporarily or CTRL+B to keep it displayed)

  • Users cannot edit a shared calendar of a shared mailbox that was deleted from the cloud and recreated on premise

    Description:
The following example account [email protected] is an on premise AD account being used as a shared mailbox in the cloud. We have discovered that regardless of what we do, not a single user can edit the calendar entries.
The following message is shown in Outlook Click to Run 2013 when an entry. "New appointment" button is also greyed out, including "Calendar Permissions" and some others.
This problem started when the shared mailbox was created wrongly by creating it in the cloud first and we had to delete it and start over. The "in the cloud" user was deleted and the same user was created in AD on-premise with the same account name
and then Dir Synced with the cloud. A license was assigned, a user mailbox on exchange online created and the type was converted to a shared mailbox and Editor rights were defined on the calendar folder for specific users.
    Actions performed:
Action01: gave users Editor rights on calendar folder through powershell
Result01: Rights correctly added and can be seen when get-mailboxfolderpermission is ran
Action02: Opened calendar with Outlook and tried to edit entries
Result02: Error message pops up saying "You don't have permission to create an entry in this folder. Right click the folder and check..."
Action03: Opened calendar with OWA of users
Result03: Users can edit the shared calendar on OWA
Action04: Gave users Full Access permission on mailbox with automapping on
Result04: Users can edit calendar in Outlook
Action05: Gave users Full Access permission on mailbox with automapping off (mailbox no longer visible in outlook)
Result05: Users cannot edit calendar in Outlook
Action06: Removed Full Access permission on mailbox for users
Result06: User cannot edit calendar in Outlook
Action07: Removed [email protected] from on-premise AD, performed dirsync, removed account from ms online using remove-msoluser -removefromrecyclebin
Result07: No trace of the account was anywhere to be found.
Action08: Created new [email protected] account on on-premise AD, assigned o365 license to user including exchange online license
Result08: New empty Exchange online mailbox was created
Action09: gave users Editor rights on calendar folder through powershell
Result09: Rights correctly added and can be seen when get-mailboxfolderpermission is ran
(Note: whenever mailboxfolder permissions are modified for this mailbox it's as if they are ran THREE times in a row, the first time they are applied and the powershell gives immediately 3 exceptions behind this:
An existing permission entry was found for user: [email protected]
        + CategoryInfo          : NotSpecified: (:) [Add-MailboxFolderPermission], UserAlreadyExis...nEntryException
        + FullyQualifiedErrorId : [Server=DBXPR05MB046,RequestId=3b3e080e-9aaf-4db9-9b90-b7171d59eba2,TimeStamp=7/11/2014

      nt.StoreTasks.AddMailboxFolderPermission
        + PSComputerName        : outlook.office365.com
Any other mailbox does not do this when setting mailboxfolder permissions)
Action10: Opened calendar with Outlook and tried to edit entries
Result10: Error message pops up saying "You don't have permission to create an entry in this folder. Right click the folder and check..."
Action11: Tried on a fresh new pc with first time logon
    Result11: did not help
    Additional information:
We have seen this problem with another user which was recreated, when he shares his calendar with others and people get the calendar invite email and click "Open Calendar" they receive a popup "The folder cannot be found".
My first impression points to a corruption/bug in the GAL on exchange online, since we're using o365 for midsize bussinesses we cannot use the AdressList role to expose the adresslist cmdlts for deeper troubleshooting.
    PS:
Issue tested on different computers and with different user accounts, not a single user can edit the calendar of [email protected] when editor rights are given.
Noticed when editing rights for the shared mailbox in powershell after the first confirmation line
Office 2013 is click to run was updated to latest version, version number: 15.0.4659.1001

    Greetings Gil,
I haven't heard of that one.
    Questions:
Does the calendar in question show up in the "Subscriptions" category of iCal?
If you remove all accounts from iCal > Preferences > Accounts and quit and re-open iCal, does the calendar in question vanish? If so, does the calendar come back when you re-input the servers you need into  iCal > Preferences > Accounts?
Can you provide a screen shot of your calendar sidebar.
While you answer those questions, some troubleshooting to try:
Try dragging one of your other calendars above this calendar that won't delete and then quit / re-open iCal and attempt to delete the calendar in question.
    Failing that:
    1. First make an iCal backup:  Click on each calendar on the left hand side of iCal one at a time highlighting it's name and then going to File Export > Export and saving the resulting calendar file to a logical location for safekeeping.
    2. Go to iCal > Quit iCal
    3. Remove the following to the trash and restart your computer:
    Home > Library > Caches > com.apple.ical
Home > Library > Calendars > Calendar Cache, Cache, Cache 1, 2, 3, etc. (Do not remove Sync Cache or Theme Cache if present)
    4. Launch iCal and test.
If the issue persists at this point:
Remove the following to the trash and restart your computer:
    Home > Library > Caches > com.apple.ical
Home > Library > Calendars > Calendar Cache, Cache, Cache 1, 2, 3, etc. (Do not remove Sync Cache or Theme Cache if present)
Home > Library > Preferences > com.apple.ical (There may be more than one of these. Remove them all.)
---NOTE: Removing these files may remove any shared (CalDAV) calendars you may have access to. You will have to re-add those calendars to iCal > Preferences > Accounts.
    Hope that helps!

  • "Disk cannot be read from or written to" When syncing CERTAIN songs to iPod

So I bought my friend's iPod Touch. I've talked to her about this issue and she's never experienced anything of the sort. When I got her iPod Touch I downloaded the newest software (3.1.2).
It's still currently running on 3.1.2 (as I know of no way to set it back to a previous version). When I try to update the iPod it will sync fine until reaching certain songs. These songs will freeze iTunes entirely for a few moments, an error message will pop up saying "Disk cannot be read from or written to". The only way I could go around this predicament was to go through my library and un-check the songs which caused the iPod sync to fail. This is quite annoying having to have several songs un-checked as some of them are the songs I want to listen to.
What can I do to fix this? I've reset and restored everything. Multiple times. Yet to no avail.
The error occurs only with songs, I have not run in to any errors updating applications (yet).
I'm running Mac OS X Snow Leopard, the iPod Touch is running 3.1.2 (the newest update), the iPod was originally purchased back in July.

I suggest you read through the following article for some help: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1207
Normally, if you have a DRM'd song that you do not own, you will get an error (not this one, however) that the song will not/cannot be copied to your iPod. My feeling is that you might have some corrupted files.
