Cannot Edit Form Created In LiveCycle

I created a form in LiveCycle Designer ES 8.2. I've been able to edit it in LiveCycle freely (which has been necessary since the client keeps changing his mind as to what should be in it & how it should look). But today when I tried to edit it in LiveCycle, it gave me the Import wizard instead. It contains FormCalc scripting & specific object names, which will all be wiped out if I do that.
I don't want to import the form and create a new one. I want it to edit the form that already exists and that it was able to edit in the past without a problem. How do I convince LiveCycle to do this?

This would be best posted in the LiveCycle Designer forum: http://forums.adobe.com/community/livecycle/livecycle_modules_and_development_tools/livecy cle_designer_es

  • Cannot fill forms created by LiveCycle Designer

    Dear all,
By using Adboe Reader for iPad, I can fill the forms created by Adobe Pro, but cannot view pdf and fill the forms created by LiveCycle Designer. Any idea?
    Thanks,
    Jackson

Thanks for the reply. Right now I can create froms in Adobe Pro, but I need to create an "image file" which is only avialble in LiveCycle designer. Did the Acroforms you mention supports Image field? I tried to create a form with image fields in LiveCycle Designer, and then save as static form. It will work for PC but doesn't work for iPad.
    Thanks

  • I am unable to edit a form created with LiveCycle version 8.5 with LiveCycle Version ES1.

I am trying to edit a form created with LiveCycle version 8.08.2073 (installed with Adobe Pro 8).  I am using LiveCycle version ES (installed with Adobe Pro 9).  I can open the fhe form, but the tools are greyed out.  It apears the file is locked for editing, but I cannot determine where/how to unlock it.

You should try to start in safe mode which runs a file check. You hold the shift key down during a start up till there is a progress bar towards thr bottom of the screen. This start will take a longer time than normal. In safe mode try the functioins you are having problems with to see if there is an improvement. Some links below to read.

  • Form created with LiveCycle is not saving the data of a fillable form.

I had posted this in another forum, which got moved over to this forum.  Forgive the double post, I wasn't sure if it was assumed that it was resolved.
This document:  http://www.southark.edu/employment/application-v5.pdf  was created a couple of years ago in Acrobat and LiveCycle.
I wanted visitors to have the ability to fill in the document and save their data.
So, I opened it in Adobe Acrobat X and saved it using the Save As > Reader Extended PDF > Enable Additional Features.
However, after filling in the document and saving, no data is saved.
I was informed that since it was an XFA form created in LiveCycle Designer, that they have special considerations that don't apply to forms created in Acrobat.
Still needing help in giving my visitors the ability to save their form data.
    Thanks,
    Charley

Thanks so much for your reply.
Employing your solution our website visitors can save the data using Acrobat Pro.
They cannot save their data using Reader (most of them don't have Acrobat Pro).  See image below.
    Any other thoughts?
Thanks very much for your time and interest.

  • Form created with Livecycle Designer with a SQL database - do you need LiveCycle Forms installed?

    Hello,
I'm REALLY hoping someone here can help me, I have spent over four hours on the phone to Adobe in the last 3 days and I'm getting no where what-so-ever. I can't even find out where /how to complain about it! (but thats another story)
    Here's my situtation:
I work for a company with approx 140 staff. On one computer, we have Adobe Livecycle Designer ES installed, and we have used that program to create a form which has a link to a SQL database.
The link in this form doesn't work on the other computers which has the basic (free) Adobe Reader. From doing research within these forums
, I have found that the form will not work on other computers unless they have Adobe Livecycle forms installed on their machines.
What I need to know (and what they cannot seem to tell me when I call), is two things:
Is it correct that in order to use a form created in Livecycle Designer which has a link to a SQL database, that the machine must have LiveCycle forms installed?
How much does Adobe LiveCycle Forms costs?
PLEASE, if you can answer this question, I would REALLY appriciate it....
    Thank you!

I presume you are asking if you need Livecycle Forms ES? Forms ES is a component of the livecycle software suite intended as a document service which will be installed on a server within the organisation. A couple of things this document service can do is to render XDP into multiple formats (PDF, html, etc.), execute script server side (for example the database connection) on behalf of the client (reader, etc.), integrate with backend components, etc. So no you do not install this on each client.
For database connections to work, you either have a server with Forms ES installed which can connect on each clients behalf (ie. Client->Forms ES Server->Database), or you have a reader-extended PDF to allow connections to be use in the free basic Reader (i.e. direct calls to the database or using web service calls to your own database components). However, reader-extended pdf would probably require Reader Extensions ES component installed on a server (you once off extend your developed pdf through this and then hand it out to each of the end users). Not sure if the Acrobat Reader extensions will cover this functionality since I have not tried that. I dont think it does. Otherwise you would need full acrobat on each client.
How much database integration is your form actually doing at the moment? read only? Full access? And how many clients do you expect to hit your database? Depending on what you need the form to do, there is always the option to try and build the integration yourself. Do simple http submits from the browser (hosting reader as a plugin) to some component somewhere which in turn hits your database. Wouldnt require additional licensing but alot more development work.
As for cost for the various components, thats a question only Adobe can answer for you since they all sit squarely in the enterprise space and licensing for that is not as simple as off the shelf products.
Maybe someone else has a view on it or has an alternative.

  • Form created by Livecycle Designer

    Dear All,
I've created few formed by LC Designer. The form I fill with Adobe Reader for iPad will NOT be able to be seen in Acrobat Reader for PC. It can be seen in Adobe Reader for iPad. Any idea?
    Thanks,
    Jackson

The iOS Adobe Reader does not properly fill in XFA forms created in LiveCycle designer. Thus, the PC and other readers cannot view the form properly. Others have requested the ability to fill static XFA forms from LC Designer as well, so we'll note your request as another "vote", however we have not decided whether or not we'll be able to implement this in the Mobile Reader. As an alternative to LC designer, you can use the Acroform forms creation tool within the Acrobat product to create the form.
I hope this helps and I apologize for the inconvenience.

  • Adobe form created in LiveCycle does not remember user input

Adobe form created in LiveCycle does not remember user input when the file has been re-opened after it has been saved.
    Example:
"Check box" that has been selected and who have registered Action script (may be that it should be disabled), seems to be reset when the file is re-opened, although it apparently is checked.
Are there settings or script that can prevent this?

    Hi there,
usually if the values are not kept in form after saving and re-opening the form, it would be because of your code... or because it is not Reader Extended PDF...
If your code has a function which is to return a value to your field without it to be working based on your Design, it will reset any data..(variables)
    Which means...
e.g.: You have an array/var/JSONobject which you populate varying on the data entered in the design, as long as you are in the actual form, without closing and re-opening the form, it will keep all values inside that array / variables / JSONobject. But, once the form closed and re-opened, if you have a function that returns a value to your field, whatever the field, from any variable in the script it will return nothing because every variables are reset. To avoid such a thing, you must repopulate all variables that were assigned previously before closing the PDF Form. To do so, I recommend to have a page(hidden) which contains every important values according to that function and you must repopulate those variables according to the values in the keepVar page...
If you do not have any function that returns a value to a field based on your variables, this is not the solution you are looking for and I am not aware of the reason why it behaves like this... Maybe more information on the behaviour of your form would help locate the issue...
    Hope this help

  • Data import for users of forms created with Livecycle Designer

    Hello,
I have seen several posts regarding data import for forms created by Livecycle Designer but nothing that helps with something I am trying to accomplish.  I can create a data connection and import information in a form but what I would like to do is import data, then send the pdf for completion to a user.  There are a few data elements that I have available and the rest of the information comes from from the user.  The problem I run into is once I create a data connection, the pdf is ALWAYS looking for the source file for that data.  I simply want to prepopulate some fields and send to the various users for completion.  Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks!

Which type of Data Connection are you trying to create?
XML Schema, Sample Data File or WSDL?
Creating any one of first two types(mentioned above) will only create schema and will never import any data into PDF.
If you create the WSDL connection, you can surely import data (i.e. prepopulate data) into your PDF and forward it for users review/fill.
If I misunderstood your question, please get me clarified.

  • Can you upload a PDF fillable form created from LiveCycle

I know that these forms are HTML forms. I am wondering if I can upload a form that I created in LiveCycle Designer with Acrobat Professional. Can I upload the form, instead of designing it online through Forms Central?

Sorry, you can't upload a form created with LiveCycle Designer to FormsCentral. You have to create the form on the FormsCentral website from scratch or using one of the templates we provide. Fortunately, creating a form using FormsCentral is really simple so if the form you created in LiveCycle Designer is fairly simple you could quickly recreate it using FormsCentral.

  • Can I combine a form created in Livecycle Designer with a standard pdf to create a new document?

I have a fillable form that I created with Livecycle Designer along with two standard pdf files.  When I try to combine in Acrobat Pro 10 it identifies the form with XML data and will not allow me to complete the process.  Thanks in advance for any help with this.

No you cannot... this is one of the things my organization struggles with.  I love livecycle becuase of its dynamic form capabilities, but we have so many other pre-built pdfs in adobe pro that can not be merged with these forms.  It is truly frustrating!!!  wish i had a better answer for you.  Also from the book 'Creating Dynamic Forms with Adobe LiveCycle Designer' page 6... "The PDF files that Designer creates are structurally different than other PDF files...... LiveCycle Designer can edit a PDF form created in Acrobat, but Acrobat can not edit a PDF form created in Designer."  Likewise... XML pdfs do not merge with other pdfs. JoBeth

  • Form Created in LiveCycle 8 compatibility with Office 2010

A few years ago I created a form in LiveCycle Designer 8 which allowed my users to submit a pdf from by attaching it to an Outlook email. Some of the users have switched to Office 2010 and the submit button is no longer working. Any ideas for a fix? Thanks!

  • Cannot Edit Form

Purchased XI Pro with the single purpose of creating forms.  Once created in Forms Central and 'Save a PDF Form' I cannot edit in Adobe XI Pro,  When I select Forms/Edit I get the message to 'Save As Copy...' I do that then get a screen that says 'You cannot edit this as a form.'   I can't do any of the neat features those nice video in the Adobe site says you can do.  Appreciate any advise.

    Hi;
Please see this FAQ on how to edit a FormsCentral form in Acrobat: http://forums.adobe.com/docs/DOC-3661

  • Editing form created in earlier version of Adobe Acrobat

I'm trying to edit a form created in Adobe Acrobat 7; we're now using Adobe Acrobat Pro X.  I can't seem to edit text; why?

    No.

  • Cannot edit bibliography created with Endnote

I am trying out the Pages 09/Endnote feature. I find that I cannot edit the Bib that was created by Endnote as I was entering the citations. When I click on the Bib the whole thing is highlighted. A double click results in bringing up the manage citations window in Endnote. The Bib format that my school uses is difficult to reproduce solely within Endnote, so if this is going to work I need to be able to do a manual edit at the end. Any suggestions, or is this not happening for others?

Try highlighting the bibliography that was created by EndNote. Copy and paste it into a new Pages document. You will get a notice that "This bibliography was created in a different document. The bibliography will be pasted as text and won’t automatically update."
The bibliography can then be edited and pasted back to the original as text. You will not recreate a bibliography with EndNote.
I converted by PhD dissertation from Word to Pages'09 due to the new integration with EndNote. I have been very pleased with the result. Pages has its own quirks that I needed to learn, but it has a much more predictable approach to inserting tables and graphics.

  • Does Ipad adobe reader allow to fill a  dynamic xml form created on LiveCycle?

The form was created using LiveCycle Designer ES3 for the purpose of being filled out on the spot at the client and then submitted as email attachment. However, Adobe reader does not seem to be able to open it giving the following error:
"Please wait... If this message is not eventually replaced by the proper contents of the document, your PDF viewer may not be able to display this type of document..."
The form is dynamic XML, and in the description of the Adobe Reader for the Ipad, it mentions that it is capable of opening forms under the Livecycle rights.
However, if the Reader can not open dynamic XML's, how can I convert the form into a compatible fillable form for the Ipad?
    Thanks.

LiveCycle Dynamic XML Forms are not supported in the Mobile versions of Adobe Reader.
