Cannot edit in CS5 from LR3

When I'm working in LR3 and try to edit in CS5 I get the following error msg. "Could not complete your request because it is not a valid photoshop document".

As a test, you might Open the file in another app, like the free IrfanView, and just do a Save_As to a separate location, so as to not overwrite the original. Then see if PS will Open that resulting file.
If so, then something is likely munged in the header info for LR3. What it is, I cannot say.
Good luck,
Hunt

Sorry for getting back to you this late but I figured out the problem was
not with Photoshop but with the file itself.  I created a new file file and
was able to edit it in Photoshop from Lightroom.  Thanks again for your

  • Editing in PSE8 from LR3

    Hi,
I have LR3 installed on my macbook pro and have recently installed PSE8 to use as an external editor. I am exiting from LR3 to PSE8 fine but when I have done the edit on a photo I am nor sure how to get back to LR3 with the edited photo. At the moment when I exit from PSE8 and return to LR3 I am seeing the unedited version of the photo? Is there a simple step I am missing?
    Regards
    Pierce

    Hi Pierce
I assume PSE8 is recognised as the external editor. Check by clicking Edit>> Preferences and then hitting the External Editing tab.
Select a photo from the Library that you want to edit in PSE8 and pres Ctrl+E
Check edit Copy with Lightroom Adjustments and select either Tiff or PSD
Make your changes in PSE8 and press Ctr+S to save and click OK to overwrite the file created by Lightroom.
Click Ctrl+W to close the image in PSE8 and then return to Lightroom.

  • Editing in CS5 from Lightroom 3

Similar question to others in the forum with a couple of twists.  Hopefully someone can point me to the solution.
System:  iMac 2.4GHz running in 32bit, 4Gb RAM
Software:  Lightroom 3, Photoshop CS5 running in 64bit (same problem if running in 32bit), NIK Complete package plug-ins (updated for 64bit operation)
PS is the external editor for LR per Preferences; Camera Raw is 6.2 version.
When I select an image in LR to edit in PS via Photo>Edit in CS5 the following happens:
    PS opens
    Palettes appear
Finder dialogue box opens asking me to pick a file for editing.
    Or:
    PS opens
    Palettes appear
No file opens - just sits there doing nothing.
    Or:
    PS Opens
    Palettes appear
    File appears for editing.
It's irregular enough to drive me crazy.  Sometimes switching from 64 to 32 bit PS will result in normal behavior.  Sometimes selecting Edit In via right click on image will work.  Sometimes selecting a .psd file in LR will work and then all other file types (.dng, .tiff) will work.  Sometimes I have to shut everything down and restart for it to behave normally.
Anyone see this particular version of the Edit In CS5 bug and found a solution to it?  Seems to have started a couple of weeks ago but not after any upgrade or installation on my part.
Thanks to all for thinking about it.

I don't know what anyone else will say, but I would try uninstalling and reinstalling.  do _NOT_ remove your catalog file, or images. They will be fine and dandy.  They are not related to software installs at all.  I'd remove PS as well.  Then install PS first, then install LR.  See if that fixes the problem.
    Cheers!

  • Unable to open Photoshop CS5 from LR3

Just installed LR3... and found that when I have a photo open in it and  I  attempt to go to "Photo" / "Edit in"  within LR3 all references to Photoshop are "Dimmed". Have checked everything I can think of in Preferences, etc. but can't figure out why I can't get PS to open... The photo file is a Tiff... I opened all of them in LR 2.7 without any problem.
The only program that I am able to access is Canon DPP. Help or suggestions???
I know it must be something really simple,,, Thanks

Or remove and reinstall CS5 if you are uncomfortable editing your registry.

  • Editing in PSE6 from lr3.3

Newish laptop HP notebook w i3 Core processor & lots of storage, & Win 7, and brand new LR3.3
Set up CSE6 as external editor in preferences
Select 1 pic in Library, call for editing, my Elements editing screen appears, annoying spinning circle appears and spins forever, but no pic appears in Elements edit space.
By browsing the forums I see tht this has been a problem for years in earlier LRs. Is it still impossible, despite advertised capability??
Have I made some basic mistake?? I am a newbie to LR, but have played w Elements for a few years.
    PLease help??

You are running a 64 bit OS with only 4 GB RAM. The main (only in the vast majority of cases) reason to run a 64 bit OS is to address more than 4 GB of RAM. You really should up the memory or consider running Windows 7 32 bit. You are showing only 1.67 GB RAM actually availble, so you must have a big graphics card and lots of other stuff clogging up your RAM. You will need more than this available for applications to run LR and PSE.
The i-3 processor is also not really up to serious image processing, but should just about do the job (you really need either the older Core 2 Quad or the later i7 processors, but the i 3 wouldn't stop you opening both applications just make them run very slowly). You should be able to get LR and PSE to both run even on your machine. My guess is that you have lots of stuff running in the back ground. Check what is starting up with windows and disable anything you really don't need to be running all the time. Also take a look in Task Manager at what processes are running, particularity what happens when you open a file from LR to PSE.
There are lots of things you can do to get Windows running well. The starting point would be to set your performance options. Set them to adjust for best performance. Then set your page file. If this is present managed by windows change that and set the page file preferably to a separate drive, at a figure around 1 1/2 times your RAM, in your case the initial size and the maximum size would both be set at 6000. You can also turn off indexing on all drives as this uses loads of resources. Turn of System Restore. Make sure you have lots of free space on all your hard drives and de fragment them regularly.
Adding physical RAM is always a good idea, max out your machine. Also you may benifit from a Readyboost drive, if you have a flash drive you can use.

  • I can no longer "edit in" CS5 from LR4 with RAW files

I can send jpeg files to CS5 via "edit in" but I can't send RAW files. PS is launched but the photos are never opened. I recently upgraded my camera to a Nikon D800, but I can't remember if the problem started just before I upgraded.

I have the same problem. Any solutions?

  • Cannot edit Adjustment Brush in LR3

A week after installing LR3, I have suddenly lost the ability to go back and edit brush strokes. The effects of the brush strokes are still there, but the circle that denotes where the brush was started has disappeared. Without it, I can't select the brush stroke to edit its settings.  Is anyone else having this problem?  How did you fix it?  Right now my workaround is to undo the brush stroke, change the settings on the brush, and then make a new brush stroke.  :-(

Yea but, Look at all the fun you're having! Enjoy it, you have NO idea how fast it goes! Get Lots of pictures, I'm old, mine are gone!:)

  • Disabling ADFSMenu.dll means cannot launch PS CS5 from Explorer

I recently downloaded an update to CS5 - it caused Windows Explorer to crash whenever I right-clicked on a file. I tracked this down to a problem with the shell extension ADFSMenu.dll and have disabled this.  Explorer no longer crashes, but now I obviously can't open psd files, either by left clicking or right clicking which is really annoying.
I'm sure other people will have been affected by this - has anyone found a way of sorting this out?

Shell extensions (.dll files) reside in the Program Files folder, not the registry.  Enabling this particular file enables the Photoshop context menu and functions (ie clicking on a psd file opens Photoshop), but as described, Explorer crashes constantly.  Disabling the file fixes Explorer but means PS can't be opened from it.
This is obviously a corrupt file so I need to know either how to repair it or where to download a replacement.  From looking at the forums I can see there have been similar problems caused by this update.
    Can anyone help?

  • How to access Camera Raw when invoking CS5 from Lightroom 3?

When I invoke CS5 from Lightroom, my NEF files seem to load directly without giving me an opportunity to make adjustments in Camera Raw. If I open the same NEF file from windows Explorer, CS5 presents the Camera Raw adjustment page and I can make adjustments before proceeding.
How can I work around this?
BTW I know I can make camera raw adjustments in Lightroom and then open in CS5, however for an image that I know I will be using CS5 on anyway, I don't want to do anything at all in LR just go direct to CS5 but I can't do this if this bypasses my ability to make adjustments in camera raw!
I must be missing something here, can anyone point me in the right direction?
    [I'm using Camera Raw 6.1, LR3, CS5 12.0.1 x64; Invoking CS5 from LR3 by right-click on image, Edit In > Edit in Adobe Photoshop CS5]

That workaround did work for me so thanks for the helpful reply!
If anyone else has other ways of making this work I'd like to hear about it.
    Thanks,
    Eric

  • Why can't I 'edit in PS5' from LR4, with an image taken with a Canon 6D?

I recently upgraded to a Canon 6D. My usual workflow is to import my files into LR 4 (4.3 I think) and do standard editing. I then choose 'edit in' CS5 from the LR menu and normally the image opens up in PShop for more adjustments. I make the adjustments then save and I get two versions of the image back in LR, one as it was and the one I just edited. Now when I do this, PShop opens, but my image doesn't appear. I can see some of PShop on the screen ie the menus and tool bar etc but mostly LR is seen. Have been told to download a DNG converter and update my camera raw software etc and I've tried a few things but nothing is working and I don't know what version of the updates I need etc and what to do. I don't understand computers at all so a basic step by step guide would be good! ...please can you help as I am getting really behind with all my editing :-(
Someone has told me that CS5 doesn't support the version of Camera Raw required to open 6D RAW files...please tell me there is something I can do without having to buy CS6 and LR5 which is what someone on chat on the Adobe website has just told me?
Many thanks, any help would be much appreciated.

Because you are using lightroom, whether cs5 supports that camera model or not is irrelevent, unless you open or place the raw file itself into photoshop.
Lightroom does not send a raw file, it sends a tiff or psd (Jpg is also an option if you use a secondary editor) file to photoshop. Odds are greater that lightroom 4 does not support your camera.
Adobe has a list of camera models that each version of lightroom and camera raw support. It will tell you whether you are up to date, need to do an update. If they are not an option then you can use the dng converter or purchase a newer version of lightroom.

  • Concerning Lightroom preferences: Getting back to editing in CS5

  • Cannot edit imported events

I'm not sure if this is a bug or not but wondering if others are having this issue.
When I import an event (for example from evite.com) it gets entered into my calendar. However, I am unable to edit the event. I can't change the location, time, or any other category. I'm guessing this is because it sees the event as not belonging to me.
I should be able to edit an event regardless of ownership. It's on my calendar. If iCal warned me that I shouldn't edit it, that's one thing. But not allowing me to edit it is another.
I was able to make the necessary changes through MobileMe, but I shouldn't have to do this.
    Is this a bug?

I have the same issue. Specifically, I cannot edit events imported from facebook using the "Export" link. I wouldn't call it a bug as much as an ease of use issue/poor design. I just performed a work-around that was kludgey, but worked. I don't know if all the steps are necessary, but here's what I did. I copied the event and pasted it into another calendar. I then double-cliecked the event to view it. Facebook auto-populates the attendees field, so when I pasted it into the new calendar, it let me add or delete new attendees and click send. Even though I deleted the attendee, it still sent an email to them saying the event was cancelled (?!), but then, after it was sent, I double-clicked the event and the send button changed to an update button and all the fields were editable. So I changed everything and clicked update. This time it did not send an email and changed the event info, including putting it back in the original calendar. After that, every time I double-click the event, it's editable (no edit button) with a done button. Weird. Every other event has an edit button to make changes. I definitely think this is just poor design.
