Cannot edit in photoshop

Hi,
Just updated to Lightroom 5.5 and PS CC 2014, both windows 64 bit.
In Lightroom I select "Edit in Photoshop CC 2014", Lightroom shudders and then Phototshop starts but the TIFF is not displayed.
However if I select "Open as a Smart object in Photoshop", Lightroom shudders and then Photoshop starts and the TIFF is displayed. When I then do ctrl W in Photoshop to close the TIFF, I get an error box as below
I have deleted the preferences in PS and Lightroom, but still have the same problem. Any ideas? thanks Paul
UPDATE:
Uninstalled Photoshop (did not uninstall lightroom) and shutdown computer. Restarted computer and Downloaded and installed Photoshop again. Now all is working properly as it did before updated LR and PS.

I was able to edit at first, and now, it does not work after changing my preferences to try to help with horrendous lagging. Fixed the lagging, but now have this issue. Will try to reinstall. Very poor performance so far.

  • Cannot edit in Photoshop Elements

    Hi,
I´m running Lightroom 1.3.1 and Elements 6.0 on a Vista machine, and I´m having problems to bring up photos in Elements for editing. I had to modify the registry to enable the Edit in Photoshop elements menu, and now Elements opens up when issue this command.
The problem is no photo shows up in Elements! Elements opens up with an empty window but nothing more happens!

I managed to solve the problem on my own. By mistake, I put a reference to the Elements "container application" (the EXE-file that ends with 6.0) in the registry. For some reason the editor fired up which made me believe everything was OK. I changed this reference in the registry to EXE-file corresponding to the elements editor (this filename _do_not_ end with 6.0) and then everything worked all right.
I think it would be wise to update the technical note on this with a warning!

  • Cannot "Edit in Photoshop CS5" in 16 bit, only 8 bit

Adobe Lightroom v3.6 with Camera Raw 6.6
    Adobe Photoshop v12.0.04 x64
Working on my Mac, I've never had problems with this before - always been able to edit in Photoshop without any problems.
Suddenly, when I try to edit in PS in 16 bit, my image is blocky and scattered, possibly like it's corrupted.
When I open it in 8 bit, it looks fine, just crappier.
Anyone else having this issue?  It's driving me bonkers.  I also tried opening it with all variations of the color space, but it's the 16 bit part that seems to be the issue.

Here's what an image will look like if i try to open it in 16 bit.
And... I'm not sure what could be the issue, because it's happening even when I open the image straight from Photoshop (it opens in Camera Raw, I switch it to 16 bit, it looks all wonky).
I've tried this in an older LR catalog as well as my working catalog.

  • LR3 - Cannot edit in Photoshop CS4 ("Edit a Copy with Lightroom Adjustments")

Having just purchased LR3, it seems that when I select "Edit a copy with Lightroom Adjustments", that the LR adjustments aren't being carried across into CS4. I am only given the original file in PS.
    Is this a known bug?

So what do you think might be the problem, Dorin?
I don't know. I haven't seen a bug (assuming it is indeed a bug, and not an operator error) like this is mentioned here in the forums.
This issue is going to affect my business in a major way.
If this is so critical to your business, you can use a workaround meanwhile.
Use the regular export command with the following options:
File type: PSD/TIFF; other relevant filetype options.
    Location: same as original photo.
Add to this catalog: checked. Stack with original: as needed.
    Post-processing: open in Photoshop.
Save this as an Export presets and invoke it from the File->Export with Preset from the menu.
The end result is the same as Edit in Photoshop.

  • Preview locks files - cannot edit in Photoshop CS6

Preview has locked all my image files - Even if I use the dropdown menu in the Title bar and change it to unlocked - makes no difference - I still cannot save/save as when I open an image in Photoshop CS6 - it says I  do not have permission, or someone else is using file etc. I have gone into Get Info - does not says file/folder is locked - have made sure that I have Read/Write privileges in the Get Info window - makes no difference.  It basically means I cannot use Photoshop - the only thing that works in Photoshop is Save for Web. I have lost two jobs that I was to do by Christmas because of this - if anyone can help I would be most appreciative!

Set up CS6 as an secondary editor, and then it will use LR's built-in ACR to process the files, instead of the external ACR with CS6. The external ACR 6.7 also processes D800, just not ACR 7 just yet.

I cannot open photo's stored in my i photo library to edit in Photoshop Elements.  Adobe comes up with the message program error. I use a Macbook Air.

No, that is done deliberately, since letting other programs poke around in the iphoto library is the fastest known way to corrupt it and make it wither up and die, along with your photos. If you want to use PSE with iphoto you have two choices:
    1. Set PSE as your external editor and send the photos from iphoto. Edit them, then save without changing the name or format and iphoto will remember your last saved edits + original, although you have to lose the edits to see the original again. You may need to set the editor prefs>saving files>on first save to save over existing to make this work.
    2. Export the photos from iphoto, use file>open in PSE, make all the changes of any sort that you like, save the file, and import it to iphoto as a new file.

    Hi Nealeh
Thanks i think I got it working of a fashion.
Except the replace colour, does not seem to end up with the colour I picked using the picker tool. Its as though it hads not replaced the colour but blended in the desired colour with the old incorrect colour!
Buy trial and error picking not the right colour but close - which when mixed with the existing colour is close.
Sorry I can't post the pictures as the Lingerie Mfg, has me under non disclosure.
The scenario is:-  say a blonded mainly tanned model a high cut [at the hips] corsette style basque, with an ultra low bra line.
Our dear model, has just come back from St Barts with a fabulous Tan, and equally striking bold Tan lines!.
So we have great tanned legs, then the 'porcelain white band' where her swimsuit was.
Likewise we have a tanned face, and arms, shoulders etc and a great tan on the top of the cleavage, then it stops, white band to the top of the ultralow cut bra line of the basque.
She must have lived in like the most conservative bikini on the planet [50's style], for 2 weeks!
Had she had a normal skimpy bikini on, no problem!
If i don't solve it, she will get fired!
Not a lack of interest in your post, but I was out, and tried to log in to this site; which I could do, on my iPad Air / 5 [whatever its the new one]. And tried to 'sign in' - but it just hung at the
"Join Adobe Community" adobe sign in splash screen! with he little whell spinning around continuously!!!
I have Safari on this iPad. Guess that is all it runs.
So technology is not my friend today!

Cannot edit raw photo from Lightroom 5.5 in Photoshop CS 6 I have camera raw 8.5 installed.

Sorry for getting back to you this late but I figured out the problem was
not with Photoshop but with the file itself.  I created a new file file and
was able to edit it in Photoshop from Lightroom.  Thanks again for your
response to help resolve the problem.

You might also ask for help in the Lightroom forum.
What I have found is that when I upgraded from PSE12 to 13, my Lightroom 5.6 still selected PSE12 in the list of external editors. I had to use the preferences menu to select the right PhotoshopElementsEditor.exe in the Program Files/Adobe/Photoshop Elements 13 folder. I got a message stating that Photoshop Elements was already selected as external editor. In that message box, there is a button with the option to 'change anyway', which I did. Now LR correctly opens PSE13 when I choose Edit in Elements.

  • Cannot edit PSE 5 Organizer image in Photoshop CS4

After reverting from the Organizer in PSE 6 to PSE 5, I had been using the PSE Organizer with Photoshop CS2 without difficulty. I have upgraded to CS4, but before doing so, I replaced my hard drive and did a clean install of Windows XP and my various programs, among which was PSE 5. The catalog which had been backed up came through fine in the new install. Today I was browsing through the Organizer and chose an image to edit in Photoshop CS4. Unfortunately, although CS4 opened, I got an error message that "An error occurred while attempting to edit the file in the external editor." I tried to designate CS4 as an external editor, but, as I expected, PSE would not accept it as Photoshop is normally recognized as an editor. I had backed up Documents and Settings from my old drive and can access them, if that would be helpful. I would appreciate any information that would put ne on the right track to solve this problem.

There is an old workaround to make PSA2(Organizer 2)use CS2 the external editor. I have no idea if it will do any good in your case. Might be worth a try though.

"Peter, we have found that PSA really does use CS2 with a simple workaround: you must go into the CS2 folder, right-click the executable file, select COPY from the pop-up menu. Now, right-click any blank area of the same folder and select PASTE to add a copy of this executable. I suggest renaming this copy to something like CS2COPY.EXE
Now, back in PSA, point the "default editor preference" to this newly named executable file, CS2COPY.EXE. Make sure you are not selecting a shortcut to the original program executable."

  • Cannot open nef files from my d7100 nikon to edit in photoshop

Hi I am using lightroom 5 and photoshop cs5 with my nikon d90 i could edit in photoshop, now with my d7100 photoshop opens but the picture doesnt . i have checked all updates and they say i am up to date . camera raw seems to be at 6.7 and i dont know how to update to 8.71? i think

    Hi Andrewa9529354,
CS5 only works with ACR 6.x.
    CS6/CC/CC2014 work with ACR 8.x.
D7100 requires camera RAW version 7.4 and above. Refer to below document.
Camera Raw plug-in | Supported cameras
You will have to use DNG converter to convert the files to DNG format.
Below is the link for DNG converter
    Windows: http://www.adobe.com/support/downloads/product.jsp?product=106&platform=Windows
    Mac: http://www.adobe.com/support/downloads/product.jsp?product=106&platform=Macintosh
Or you can update to CS6/CC/CC2014 Photoshop.

  • Cannot edit JPG, GIF files stored in a SharePoint 2010 picture library

Created a SharePoint 2010 picture library to store .jpg, .gif images along with other types of images which were created using Adobe photoshop, Tiff etc.
Upon clicking on the .jpg, .gif files for editing purposes, they open in the browser instead of Photoshop so I cannot edit these files for this reason. Other types of image files are editable but not the jpg, gif files. File associations are already
in place for these files to open in Photoshop. Please advise.
    Thank you,
    Mahesh

You can change the default application that opens while you click open document using DocIcon.xml which is present on the web front ends. Please look at this link which explains what you need to update in order to take care of your requirement.

If I'm in LIghtroom 5, and try to Edit in Photoshop CS6, I always get the following message: "This version of Lightroom may require the Photoshop Camera Raw plug-in version 8.6 for full compatibility." But I have updated to 8.6 and have no remaining updates. How can I fix this?
If I click "Open Anyway" or "Render using Lightroom", I get the following message:
"Adobe Photoshop CS6 cannot be opened because of a problem.
Check with the developer to make sure Adobe Photoshop CS6 works with this version of OS X. You may need to reinstall the application. Be sure to install any available updates for the application and OS X."
Please tell me what to do so I can edit from Lightroom to Photoshop.

In Photoshop, if you choose Help - About Plug-in... - Camera Raw, does it say 8.6?
Seems to me there was some hiccup they found in the update process, which prompted this:
Camera Raw updates cannot be applied
I honestly don't know if the problem could apply to 8.6 as well, which is why I asked you to check to make very sure you really got it.

  • How do I save files I've edited in Photoshop to a location other than the original folder?

I cannot find a way to change the location of the .psd files created when I edit in Photoshop. Ever since Lightroom 1 they go into the same folder as the orginal, and I would rather have them all placed together in one folder. I have just upgraded to LR 3 and was hoping this might have been dealt with, but cannot find a way. Surely I cannot be the only person to want this... thank you and best wishes, joe holly

WW, Smart Collection. Very good. I would still need to rescue the files from their folders. I have been using LR from the very beginning, but have moved up to LR3 just this week, and, thus am just becoming acquainted. Can I do that in LR3?
DJ Paige, I like your idea of finding the files, except that I do not want to remove them from LR; I just want to make some space on my HD.
FYI, I am quite conscious as to the importance of my original files. I keep a copy on my desktop Mac, along with a backup updated daily. Also, I archive two copies on DVD (or, now, on BluRay) discs and keep each set in a different place. As such I can dump the original NEFs from my laptop and if one is needed, find it on a disc.
Thank you for your concern, however.
Frankly, I'm amazed that Adobe hasn't encountered this before. I can't be the only guy who shoots a lot and downloads to my MacBook Pro. My HD is 750 gigs and I fill it from time to time. Earlier this month I visited New Orleans and cruised the Caribbean. In that 10 days I shot 5,000 images -- about 45 gigs. Most will never be seen. I want to trash them so I can go somewhere else and do it again. But I don't want to get rid of them. Among other things, I do slide shows -- have for about 40 years -- and if there is one thing I have learned, it is that if you throw something away, almost immediately you will need it.
As I'm sure you are aware, a lot of work is needed to take care of all these images in simply renaming and sorting and like that. On the Mac I can separate the NEFs from the PSDs before I trash the RAW files. But this takes time and is more work.
Once agai, thank you both and best wishes.

  • Lightroom and using the Edit in Photoshop CS3 Options

Today, I installed Lightroom v1.1 and Photoshop CS3 v10.0.1 I have an issue...Using Lightroom, I import a photo (JPG) into LR Library. Then, I right-click the photo and select the option to Edit In Photoshop CS3. This opens a window within Lightroom and there are three available options concerning What to Edit. Two Options reference Edit a Copy and One Option references Edit the Original. The two referencing Editing a Copy always says Lightroom cannot prepare the file for editing and that the file cannot be opened. If I select the last option to Edit the Original, that photo is brought into PS CS3 for Editing.
This is also the situation with files TIFF and PSD.
This is also the situation if I use a different Photo Editor other than PS CS3.
I have read the user manual and if I read correctly, the Two Options which do not work should also work. Or does my thinking need correction?
I would appreciate someone helping me with the understanding of this issue.
    Thanks.
    James

Thanks to you both. I do appreciate your responses. Please keep them coming.
I think Judith has a point.
I believe I should be able to Import a JPG from somewhere (HD, Floppy Drive, CD Drive)into the LR Library and then call upon Photoshop CS3 to Edit that JPG. If I am not incorrect, when reading the Lightroom Documentation, I see where this action is supported.
The action is: Right-Click a JPG (also TIF and PSD as well) in the LR Libary. From the menu presented, select Edit in the Adobe Photoshop CS3. A new Window appears from which to select either of two Edit a Copy Actions (with LR adjustments or without LR adjustments), I alway receive a Warning Window saying: Lightroom was unable to prepare the selected file at C:\Documents and Settings\My Name\My Documents\My Pictures\photo.JPG (or TIF or PSD) for editing. It will not be opened.
If I select Edit the Original, the photo is brought into CS3 for editing. This selection is the only one which work. I wish to point out that the Copy File Options are grayed-out with the Edit Original Selection. And, the Copy File Options are NOT Grayed-out with Copy Options.
In summary, if Copy File Options available, the JPG (or TIF or PSD) will not be prepared by Lighrooom for editing in CS3. My Copy File Options show TIFF and PSD pnly; no JPG. If I read correctly, I cannot Copy a JPG for editing into CS3. What I do not understand is if I have a TIFF or PSD in the Library, the Copy Option still fails to execute. The point John has made about RAW requires me to look into that aspect. I need to know more about that.
Can anyone right-click a JPG in the LR Libary. Then select Edit in CS3. Then use either of the two Copy Functions Selections for the action of that JPG being prepared by LR and brought into CS3 for editing?
This action will not work for me.
I do plan to update my version soon.
All replys and suggestions are welcomed.
    Regards,
    James
