Cannot edit lightroom 2 photo in photoshop elements 9, help please.

I am using OS 10.6.5. I have Lightroom 2.7 installed and I just purchased Photoshop Elements 9. I am trying to edit my Lightroom photos in Elements by going to the menu, selecting photos and then the Edit In, but I am not able to select any of the options as they are grayed out. I have uninstalled and re-installed both programs and that has not helped. Any suggestions?  Let me know if more info is needed.
Thanks,
Sam

  • Cannot edit Aperture 3 photo in Photoshop elements 10

When I want to edit a photo in Aperture 3 through Photoshop Elements 10, nothing happens.  The photo does not show up.  It used to work before.

That it never worked right is important to know  .
Reset the external editor selection in Aperture following the instructions at the link I posted above.
You should be able to right-click an Image, select "Edit with NamedEditor", edit the copy of your Image that Aperture creates and sends to the external editor, close your file in the editor (do not "Save As"), and end up back in Aperture with your original Image next to your selected duplicated-and-edited Image.
    Do you?

    Hi,
    I think LR should automatically detect PS Elements, and set it up as an external editor, when being installed. However, if there's a problem and it doesn't automatically set it up, you can try and set it up manually yourself. The instructions on how to do this are here;
    http://help.adobe.com/en_US/Lightroom/3.0/Using/WSA810DC18-9A3B-4f2e-B09C-1C45DD1F8EDC.htm l
I had an old version of PS Elements on my system when I started using LR, and LR didn't pick it up as an external editor - I assume this is because I have PS CS5 installed, and it used that instead.
Hopefully, this workaround will solve the problem.

  • When I external edit an aperture photo using Photoshop Elements 9 and then get out, the changes are not reflected in Aperture when I return - this used to work for me but doesn't seem to have for some time - help please?

Have used Aperture for some time - at some point this stopped working - not sure when
    workflow:
click photo and elect to use the external editor (Photoshop Elements 9)
Copy of the photo is created in Aperture with the "O" badge and I am rolled out to Photoshop
Have to change the type to 8-bit in Photoshop to start making changes
When done and I exit I am prompted to save the photo
On returning to Aperture however the "O" badged photo does not get updated/reflect my changes
    Other Things:
I can find a changed photo sitting in the Aperture Library using finder or Photoshop itself - so I know changes have been made a new file saved (TIFF).
I am wondering if I am missing some (new) preference such that the changes are not proerly being saved for re-display/storage in the Aperture Library
I am running Lion OSX at the moment but the behaviour was the same under Snow Lepoard versions.
Current version of Aperture is 3.1.3, Elements is 9.0
    Any help/suggestions greatfully received

Try using psd.  Some rerports indicate some confustion between the apps with TIFF.  See:
    https://discussions.apple.com/message/15921933#15921933
I cannot confirm, nor test, since I use PS CS5, and not Elements.

  • Editing in IPhoto11 and in Photoshop Elements 9 - help!!

Hi, I am so confused - need help:
1.I uploaded RAW photos from Nikon D90 directly to Iphoto. I see them as NEF (raw).
    2. I click on the photo to edit it FIRST in IPHOTO. I made some changes. It stays in NEF. Then, on the same photo, I choose from the arrow menu to use an external editing program (Photoshop Elements) to do more editing. Photoshop Elements opens up and suddenly the photo changed its format to Jpg format.
    3. However, If I SKIP the step of editing the NEF in Iphoto, and just choose to edit the NEF in the external editing program, it open Camera Raw and the photo stays in NEF.
I would like to be able to edit the photo first in Iphoto and then ALSO in Photoshop Elements as NEF (raw). why does it change the format to jpg, as I described in phase 1?
Thanks a lot for any tip!!

Only your camera can save as NEF. It's not even a file, really, a Raw is just the dump of the data from your camera sensor.
When you process (or edit) a Raw it has to be saved as something else - in this case a Jpeg.
You can choose tiff in the Preferences if you prefer.
But there is no way to edit a raw file and then send it, as a raw, to another editor on any system.
You can also process your Raw with a 3rd Party app like ACR or Photoshop. But iPhoto does not handle this gracefully and it's a bit of a kludge.
First off set your preferred app as an external editor in iPhoto:
You can set Photoshop (or any image editor) as an external editor in iPhoto. (Preferences -> General -> Edit Photo: Choose from the Drop Down Menu.) This way, when you double click a pic to edit in iPhoto it will open automatically in Photoshop or your Image Editor, and when you save it it's sent back to iPhoto automatically. This is the only way that edits made in another application will be displayed in iPhoto.
Note that iPhoto sends a copy+ of the file to Photoshop, so when you save be sure to use the Save command, not Save As... If you use Save As then you're creating a new file and iPhoto has no way of knowing about this new file. iPhoto is preserving your original anyway.
Next: In the iPhoto Preferences -> Advanced, elect to use Raw with your External editor:
    Uploaded with plasq's Skitch!
Now when you go to edit the Raw it will be sent to your external editor.
    Now for the kludge:
You cannot save a Raw. The work you do must be output to a new file, in a new format (jepg, tiff, whatever). However, as the External Editor is making this new file iPhoto has no knowledge of its existence. Therefore you *must save it to the desktop and then import it back to iPhoto as a new file*.
This means that you will have your Original Raw and the processed version in iPhoto but they will not be recognised as version and original. iPhoto will see them as two separate shots.

  • Adobe Photoshop Elements 12 HELP PLEASE

I have never been so frustrated with an Adobe product in my life. I just "upgraded" from Elements 10 to Elements 12- and I use the term "Upgraded" loosely, because quite frankly I can't get 12 to do Anything that I want to.
    1. How do you pin the toolbars (tool options) and taskbars to the TOP of the editor like they were in Elements 10? Having the items on the bottom is a nightmare and I have to keep constantly scrolling to find what I need instead of just clicking and using it.
    2. Why are the photos so pixelated and grainy looking? I have 6-12 mb photos that look like they're 50kb photos that have been blown up to 8x10 size. How is someone supposed to edit or add to a photo when it looks so grainy to begin with at 25-60%? If you reduce a large photo to 15% you can't even tell what it's supposed to be! It's as though it's trying to resize the image to display it for web instead of showing the actual pixel size, etc. How do I fix this, the other versions of photoshop did not ruin photos like this . . .
For example- load a photo- it looks like hell, it's all grainy and pixelated. If you click on "Add glow" it will take the same photo and remove the pixelation and display in 4x6 or 8x10 size, etc and be clear as a bell. Why does it pixelate the dang photos- I am so completely frustrated with this, adobe 10 does NOT ruin photos like this when you're trying to edit them!!!
If you choose "Fit screen" you cannot edit the photo because you can't tell what the item really looks like. You have to literally save it, open it with a different program altogether and then look to see whether it needs more edits.
    3. How do you add text in a custom shape?
    4. How do you change the transparency of a custom shape?
    5. Can you change the color of the background of Elements 12? Right now it is a putrid Gray color that washes out the colors of the photos and is extremely distracting when trying to edit photos.
Thanks in advance, I am so ready to pack up this program and ship it back right at the moment!!!

    Further to Barbara's comments:
    2. There have been a few posts about the initial preview. Apparently the algorithm was changed in PSE11 from Bicubic Sharper to plain Bicubic (which is faster). The workaround was to change display view to 100%. Any subsequent changes to the view then display properly. There was also some suggestion that the initial preview was based on a thumbnail - but there seemed to be some disagreement as to whether that was correct or not. Note though that displaying at anything other than 100% is going to be scaled and not representative of your true pixels.
    5. I think the background colour change may be Mac specific. It doesn't work for me in Windows 7.
    Cheers,
    Neale

  • Updated to windows 8.1 now can't install Photoshop Elements 12, HELP PLEASE

I am having such a terrible time getting Photoshop Elements 12 to install on my computer.  I've had Dell software support and Adobe support's help but they could only get to the point of JUST the editor being installed. The organizer and the ability to go online never gets installed.  After all the files are downloaded and the installation begins a box comes up and wants to uninstall the program.  I couldn't get past this part but the software tech got past it.  I have spent hours and days trying to get this installed.  I've been a big fan of Adobe products but this is the first time I haven't gotten the HELP I need.  It has to be a software issue because i've downloaded other programs with no problems.  I even went out and brought an external cd/dvd burner and tried installing from the hard cd only to have the same problem pop up.  If it helps, I got the Windows 8.1 update maybe this is the problem. PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE CAN SOMEONE HELP ME!!!

    Hi @gsh987  ,
Thank you for visiting the HP Support Forums and Welcome. I have looked into your issue about your HP Notebook and the brightness control on Windows 8.1 not working correctly after an update. I would uninstall all the display adapters that are in the device manager and restart the Notebook. Check to see if if it put an adapter back in , right click on the driver and update.
If that does not help I would uninstall the Graphics drivers restart the Notebook and it should reinstall the correct driver for you.
Here is a link to the HP Support Assistant. Just download and run the application and it will help with the software and drivers on your system that need updating.
I would be happy to assist if needed. How Do I Find My Model Number or Product Number?
    Please let me know.
    Thanks.

  • Photo storage in Elements 8 - help please

This is probably a very stupid question, but I'm a new user of Photoshop Elements 8 and would appreciate a little bit of help. I am used to storing photographs in 'My Pictures' on Windows. I'm not quite clear whether I should transfer everything I have into the Organiser, or just leave well alone.
In short, do i need to use 'my pictures' anymore?
    Thanks,
    Keith

    Hi jon,
Brilliantly simple and straightforward answer. I understand now, thanks very much.
There may be more stupid questions to come as I'm only on page 33 of the manual, but I shall ask with confidence.
    Thanks again,
    Keith

  • Merging photos in Photoshop...Help please.

I am trying to figure out how to do this in photoshop.
I need to know how to do it with 2 photos, 3 photos (as shown above, and so on.....
I've tried, but they won't scale correctly and look like theyve been squished together.
Any help is GREATLY appreciated. Thanks.

I don't know how much of this you wanted to know about (placing the 3 views, changing their color, making black borders) so here is all of it.
    1. Image > Resize > Canvas Size.
Set Width to 3 times the picture width.
Click the left middle anchor to expand the canvas to the right.
    2. Select the picture using the Rectangular Marquee tool.
    3. Copy and paste the selection twice, creating copies on 2 new layers.
    4. Activate the Move tool and use the arrow keys to position the 2 new layers.
    5. For the middle picture, make whatever changes you want to get the new color. To appoximate your example I did a Hue/Saturation change with Hue slider set to +13 and Saturation -30. For the rightmost picture I did a Hue/Saturation change with the Saturation slider all the way left.
    6. For the borders I ran Edit > Stroke on each layer, using Stroke Width 2 and Location Inside. Note that in order to Stroke the Background layer you must first change it to a regular layer by renaming it.

  • Photoshop Elements 13 Help Please

I have just upgraded from Elements 11 to Elements 13 on my Mac and a few things are different so have some questions that i hope someone can answer.
    1) Can the annoying suggested crop feature be turned off?
    2) Every photo that i load into elements, when going from "guided" to "Expert" mode appears slightly larger than the workspace meaning that when i go to crop for example i have to press cmd + 0 to make the image smaller and fit the workspace so i can see what i am doing, this is time consuming and a pain when working with many images to have to do this to each one. In elements 11 i never had this issue as all photos opened up slightly smaller than the work space. Is there a setting somewhere this can be changed?
    Darren

I'm not sure I understand question 2, but for question 1, if you keep your mouse away from the suggestions they shouldn't appear. If you mean you don't like the divisions in the grid, you can select no grid and that should be sticky in the future:

Adobe now hides the editor - what looks like it is not - you want the editor hidden in the support folder - see http://forums.adobe.com/message/3955558#3955558 for details

  • How can I edit a photo in Photoshop Elements and have the edit appear in Windows 7, My Pictures?

In Windows XP Pro, any edit I made to a photo in Photoshop Elements 10 appeared automatically in that photo in My Pictures.   This does not happen in my new Windows 7 computer.  Can I change that and have the edit from PE10 appear in My Documents/My Pictures?

    When you finish editing choose:
    File >> Save As
Then choose a file name and folder and save.

  • Editing Photos in Photoshop Elements

I can't sort out what happens to my photo edits when done in PSE. I am careful to save the file as a .jpg and save it to the same folder. Nonetheless when I look at the photo in iPhoto, I see the unedited version. I've got to believe that his is, "pilot error" but for the life of me I can't find the correction.
I find the file that I want to edit via "file", "open" from PSE, then enter the file number that I see in iPhoto, "information" e.g. img_3405. I edit the file in PSE and save, even getting the "...do you want to replace it?" warning. When I go back to iPhoto, even after close and open, I see the unedited photo. Arrrrrrg!
What do I do (or expect) wrong?
    Wayne

save it to the same folder.
Are accessing PSE from within iPhoto or from the Finder? Are you saving with the same file name?
Here are some tips on using PSE from within iPhoto:
Using Photoshop (or Photoshop Elements) as Your Editor of Choice in iPhoto.
1 - select Photoshop as your editor of choice in iPhoto's General Preference Section's under the "Edit photo:" menu.
2 - double click on the thumbnail in iPhoto to open it in Photoshop. When you're finished editing click on the Save button. If you immediately get the JPEG Options window make your selection (Baseline standard seems to be the most compatible jpeg format) and click on the OK button. Your done.
3 - however, if you get the navigation window that indicates that PS wants to save it as a PS formatted file. You'll need to either select JPEG from the menu and save (top image) or click on the desktop in the Navigation window (bottom image) and save it to the desktop for importing as a new photo.
This method will let iPhoto know that the photo has been editied and will update the thumbnail file to reflect the edit..
NOTE: With Photoshop Elements 6 the Saving File preferences should be configured: "On First Save: Save Over Current File". Also I suggest the Maximize PSD File Compatabilty be set to Always.
If you want to use both iPhoto's editing mode and PS without having to go back and forth to the Preference pane, once you've selected PS as your editor of choice, reset the Preferences back to "Open in main window". That will let you either edit in iPhoto (double click on the thumbnail) or in PS (Control-click on the thumbnail and seledt "Edit in external editor" in the Contextual menu). This way you get the best of both worlds
