Cannot edit pictures in "Develop" mode

I´ve got about 133.000 pictures - all with keywords. In connection with backup of the cataloque -unfortunatly I lost the connection with my external HD - and thereafter the cataloque has corrupt in the way, that all pictures are to be find in the keyword list,. Most of the pictures can be viewed in "Library" - but I can´t edit them i "Develop". I get the message : "The folder could not be found"
Could somebody help me with restoring it back to "normal" order to have full controll over my photos again?
My Lightroom is 5.3 and my OS is Win7 proff.
The cataloque is on my C-drive and all of my pictures are on a external 2 TB HD
Thank you in advance.

What has happened is that the catalog has lost track of where the images are actually located.
You may note that in the Library module that both folders and individual images have question marks against them.
In Library module the previews that you see are just that, previews, and are stored with the catalog.
As soon as you go to the Develop module Lightroom needs to create a different preview directly from the original image.
It is telling you that it cannot find the original image.
R-clicking on a folder or image with question marks will initiate a dialog  box that will allow you navigate to, and select where the folder or image is, and so, relink it inot Lightroom.
Ideally R-clicking on the folder that is highest in the folder hierarchy of your image colection should relink all the images that are below it.

Any work you do in Lightroom is in the catalog. It is impossible to use Lightroom without a catalog.
In addition, your photos are filed in a specific location, which is determined when you import the photos (this may be a location you have specified or it may be the default location chosen by Lightroom).
So ... unless you specifically choose to delete your photos, your photos have not been deleted. To find them, open Lightroom and select File->Open Recent and select each catalog shown there until you find the one with your 170 photos.
And now ... a word to the wise: as gvb279 and Keith said, you absolutely need to stop doing whatever it is you are doing and learn the basics of Lightroom. You are clearly in need of such basic understanding. • Allow editing metadata in develop mode

My biggest dissatisfaction about Lightroom right now is the distinction between Library and Develop modes or views. I would dearly love to get rid of the "quick develop" panel - perhaps make that something that could be displayed via the application prefs - and put the keywords and metadata panels into the develop module. I find myself frequently wanting to switch from one module to another - to add a keyword while I'm adjusting the exposure, or to jump over to the editable histogram while I'm sorting out the keepers from the losers. I don't currently use the Web or Print modules at all, so I just ignore them.

Quick Develop serves 2 purposes - adjustment of lots of images in increments, and adjustment so you can compare and evaluate images (eg when you've been bracketting). It also uses cached data, while Develop accesses the original image data - so things happen quicker.
I didn't like QD at first either, but I'd recommend you give it more of a chance and don't delete it (you can Alt/Opt click it). Secondly, Ctrl/Cmd click the Sync button in Develop so you enter Auto Sync mode - this makes Develop adjustments apply to all selected items and great reduces the back and forth between Library and Develop.

  • Cannot edit pictures in contacts

Trying to update some contacts and I cannot edit any of the pictures.

I'm a little late to the game here, but I just got off the phone with a Senior Advisor and his statement was very clear:  The software on the Mac when using Contacts (or Address Book as it used to be aptly called) is different than the software on your iDevice for Contacts.  As such, and because of a limitation with the way Exchange handles the embedded photos, you can not make changes from your Mac.
He went on to say that he was unable to identify a work around or whether this would be addressed in the future.  I suggested there's likely a little finger pointing going on between MS and Mac as to who owns the problem.  Let's just say he 'didn't disagree'.
So, for now, just get used to changing those photos on your iPad, iPhone or iPod Touch because that's what we're stuck with.  For now....

  • Information on top of pictures in Develop mode

In both Library and Develope mode, I am getting statistics, eg: file name, jpeg id, and file sizes on all images. How do I delete this "junk"?
    Thanks in advance.

Alternately, you can use the menus:
    View -> Loupe Info
will let you choose what information is displayed in "Loupe View" (eg, single photo in either Library or Develop module)

  • I cannot edit pictures that I uploaded to my computer!

I just plugged my phone into my computer and uploaded my pictures.  When I went to "Windows Photo Gallery" to edit them, it says "This picture can't be saved because of a problem with the pictures file properties."  They are JPG so that isn't the problem.  I checked the properties and they are not in a "Read Only" mode.  I've tried copying them to a new folder on the computer.  Nothing has worked.
    Please help!!!
P.S. I also set up my icloud account to sync pictures directly to my computer but it doesn't seem it has taken affect yet.

I have the same issue . I do not have a solution but advise to prevent and avoid this issue. I notice when I do not do any editing on my iPhone 4s then I can edit using Window Live Photo. The same is true in if I use the editing with my iPhone then I will not be able to edit with Window Live Photo. My suggestion until there is a fix is to either edit using the iPhone or Window Photo Gallery. Keep in mind if you even rotate the image using your iPhone then this willnot be able to use the editing on the Window.

  • I updated the OS and now cannot edit pictures in Aperture because the program continuously jumps back to another picture

its super annoying and I have wasted hours today trying to fix it. Updated Aperture. Restarted and shut down computer. Deleted the /library/preferences as suggested

Sorry, mu iPod wasn't allowing me to type anything else. Not a good day for technology for me! Let me see if I can find that info...
I'm not sure which model. Purchased about 2 years ago. Using OS X Yosemite. Version 3.6 of Aperture. And another person had a similar question about jumping to other pictures on here and that was a suggestion.
When I go into Aperture, the first picture that shows up becomes the picture that it continuously jumps back to, once I edit it. Say I crop the first picture and move to the next one, it'll jump back to that first picture. Scroll 10 pictures down and the first picture will show up even though the picture highlighted is not the picture showing. This is leaving me unable to edit anything and quite frustrated.
    Thanks

  • Why can i not watch or edit pictures in fullscreen mode?

The only way to View them i fullscreen mode is to push the play button. Please fix this. It worked in older versions. / Jonas Hamsås

As other people don't have this issue it suggests the problem is with your set up, somehow. A detailed explanation of the problem might get you some help.

  • Lightroom 4 Bug: can only see photos in Library mode, not develop mode

This may be related to other imported catalog bugs, but does not seem to be quite the same. In Lightroom 4, with an upgraded Lightroom 3 catalog:
    1. Select a photo in Library mode.
    2. Click on Develop to go to Develop mode
Screen shows "No photo selected". I cannot edit photos in Develop mode.
I can see and edit photos that are found in smart collections, but not photos that are simply in my collections from 2012, 2011, etc. folders

This happened to me, too, after importing a couple older LR3 catalogs (upgrading/consolidating). I could see the photo in Library module but when I pressed "D" (single photo selected) I was getting the "no photo selected" error message--for every photo I tried. I wasn't able to open any photos at all in the develop module. (These were photos that were fine before installing LR4 and upgrading.) Photos were from imported LR3 and LR4 Beta catalogs.
I restarted and everything seems ok--for now!
So if you come across this thread with this same issue, restart and see if that helps. (Before restarting LR I optimized as suggested above, which did nothing for the "no photo selected" issue. And this isn't related to the parent folder issue, I left my photos in the same place and didn't have more than 3k photos in any of the parent folders. I read in other threads that people had the issue again after importing other catalogs. I'm about to do that so I'll report back.

  • How can I REPLACE original RAW files with JPG's and keep my 'Develop mode' edits?

    An image describing my problem:
    http://i.imgur.com/hcqMYkv.jpg
    (Lightroom 5)
'edits' = Edits made in develop mode.
'CR2' = My RAW image file format.
I have existing CR2's with edits for them saved in Lightroom.
I want to replace the CR2's with JPG's, and do nothing else. I want those JPG's to inherit the CR2's edits, but I DO NOT want the edits to be permanently applied to the image.
If I export the CR2's (which have edits) to JPG's, the edits will be permanently applied to them. I do not want this.
If I export the CR2's to JPG's without the edits, I have no way of getting the edits back and will have to redo the work if I use that photo again.
Any solutions? I've been trying for a while and have no idea how to do this.
Q: Why not keep the CR2's?
A: I am uploading these files to an online host (S3) as my primary storage method and uploading CR2's takes way too long with my internet speeds. Furthermore, online storage costs money.
Q: Why not shoot with JPGs instead of shooting raw?
A: I do my initial edits with the raw files and then archive them as JPG's to save storage space. They won't be raw anymore if I apply future edits, but I still have the option of retouching them from the 'original' state and still have my old edits preserved.

Probably the best thing for you to do is simply use lossy DNG format (e.g. export as, or convert to..): raw data is re-formatted with jpeg compression (full-rez or reduced-rez), but all raw settings apply.
If you insist on trying to have a true jpeg file with (mostly) raw settings, then:
The simplest way I can think of to do it without a script or plugin:
    * Reset the raw photo (consider preserving things that don't translate well, like profile-based lens corrections and white balance).
    * Export jpeg
    * Un-reset the image (e.g. using edit history or pre-reset snapshot).
    * Sync settings from raw to jpeg (note: omit settings that don't transfer well, or that were not reset..).
    * Optionally: Delete raw
To automate/streamline would require a script or plugin.

  • Second screen - big delay in develop mode.

    Hello,
I got a two Display Setup.
There is a huge delay when editing the pictures in Develop Mode from Screen 1 and 2. Its almost 2 Seconds delay to every change.
How can that be changed so its quicker.. I actually do not need the small image on the 1st sceen.
    Cheers
    mARTin

I tried opening it with Reader installed on the same machine and no change in time delay.
Independent of the file size I get the same delay.
    I'm using AES 128.
After some debugging, I conclude that the delay is ocurring when the client waits for the server to send back the key (I think).
I sniffed the TLS traffic between the client and server and there is clearly a time lapse of more than 10 sec between the first exchanges(which is sending
information from client to server) and the last exchanges (getting info back). Do you have any clues on this ? What might cause the delay in response from the server ?
    Thank you

  • Error message when compiling book "file is corrupt" referring to a photo.  Or "cannot find original photo".  Can you use photos that have been "edited" out of "Book Mode"?

Error message when compiling book "file is corrupt" referring to a photo.  Or "cannot find original photo".  Can you use photos that have been "edited" out of "Book Mode"?

I did copy it to my desktop, but it still won't let me open it.  I think the file on the disc might be corrupt or something like that though the cd itself checks out fine as far as viruses go.  I was able to verify the disc, but that's about it.  My husband tried it on his iMac and we have the same issue.  It's unzipping the folder, but won't let us open the folder on both the Mac Book Pro or the iMac by double clicking, going to file/open or right clicking.  It just keeps saying the same message as I posted above.  I think I'm just going to have the client put the pictures on either a memory card or a USB memory stick so she won't have to compress the files for zipping purposes.  It's been too frustrating trying to open this folder on this cd she gave me.  She said she created/zipped the cd on her Mac Book Pro but it sure won't open on mine.

  • Cannot edit JPG, GIF files stored in a SharePoint 2010 picture library

Created a SharePoint 2010 picture library to store .jpg, .gif images along with other types of images which were created using Adobe photoshop, Tiff etc.
Upon clicking on the .jpg, .gif files for editing purposes, they open in the browser instead of Photoshop so I cannot edit these files for this reason. Other types of image files are editable but not the jpg, gif files. File associations are already
in place for these files to open in Photoshop. Please advise.

You can change the default application that opens while you click open document using DocIcon.xml which is present on the web front ends. Please look at this link which explains what you need to update in order to take care of your requirement.
