Cannot edit PSE 5 Organizer image in Photoshop CS4

After reverting from the Organizer in PSE 6 to PSE 5, I had been using the PSE Organizer with Photoshop CS2 without difficulty. I have upgraded to CS4, but before doing so, I replaced my hard drive and did a clean install of Windows XP and my various programs, among which was PSE 5. The catalog which had been backed up came through fine in the new install. Today I was browsing through the Organizer and chose an image to edit in Photoshop CS4. Unfortunately, although CS4 opened, I got an error message that "An error occurred while attempting to edit the file in the external editor." I tried to designate CS4 as an external editor, but, as I expected, PSE would not accept it as Photoshop is normally recognized as an editor. I had backed up Documents and Settings from my old drive and can access them, if that would be helpful. I would appreciate any information that would put ne on the right track to solve this problem.

There is an old workaround to make PSA2(Organizer 2)use CS2 the external editor. I have no idea if it will do any good in your case. Might be worth a try though.

"Peter, we have found that PSA really does use CS2 with a simple workaround: you must go into the CS2 folder, right-click the executable file, select COPY from the pop-up menu. Now, right-click any blank area of the same folder and select PASTE to add a copy of this executable. I suggest renaming this copy to something like CS2COPY.EXE
Now, back in PSA, point the "default editor preference" to this newly named executable file, CS2COPY.EXE. Make sure you are not selecting a shortcut to the original program executable."

  • Float images in photoshop cs4 - edit preferences untick open doc as tab doesnt work

Hi, i have read about floating all images in windows on the forums and i have tried unticking the open documents as tabs in the edit preferences - interface section and it doesnt work, my hand is really starting to hurt, i dont know why this isnt working ?

If you drag the files to the margins (e.g., near the menu bar) of Photoshop CS4 (11.0.2), and not to the workspace, they will actually open as windows.
It'll actually do the expected thing in CS5 (i.e., open as Window) even if you drag the file to the workspace - in other words they finally fixed that bug.
Kind of a shame Adobe doesn't think blatantly wrong stuff like the "drag to workspace always opens a tabbed view" bug is important enough to fix in maintenance releases for older products.

  • Opening raw images in PHotoshop CS4 extended

I appologize in advance for this DILETTANTE question. I was happily using Lightroom II until recently when I decided, like an idiot,  to buy Adobe Design Suite, which includes Photoshop Cs4 Extended.
I am unable to open raw images, I get "could not complete your request because it is not the right kind of document.". The camera I use right now is Canon 5D Mark II. Lightroom does not have any problem either importing the raw images from the card or importing them from my hard disk, if I had already copied them there from the camera card.
    Could anybody help me?

For that camera you need the ACR plug-in version 5.2 or higher; you probably still have 5.0 from the installation of the software.
Check in PS Help > About Plug-in...
For 5.5 for Mac look here: http://www.adobe.com/support/downloads/detail.jsp?ftpID=4577
For  5.5 for Windows here: http://www.adobe.com/support/downloads/detail.jsp?ftpID=4578

  • I cannot save custom lighting effects in Photoshop CS4

    Under Filters>Render>Lighting Effects.
Whenever I try to save a custom lighting effect in Photoshop CS4 an error message pops up saying "An error occurred while trying to save the style."
    I am using an iMAC.
Video display card / driver version: ATY,RadeonX1600
    Thanks for any help.

I solved the problem by deleting my original user account, but saving all my files first.  I created a new account with adminstrative access, then opened up my old user files from the Deleted User folder and dragged them over to my new user account.  The problem with saving custom lighting effects in Photoshop is fixed.  Thanks for the tip leading me to realize it was the user profile causing the problem and not Adobe PS.

  • Can you guide me how to mirror an image using Photoshop CS4 ME ?

    hello guys...
as I was surfing the InDesign forum, I just found this which is exactly like the question I was about to ask, but since I read that it's not that easy to do it with InDesign, I am sure that it's doable by Photoshop, but how ???
any way to do it ???
    thank you very much .

Unfortunately I'm not too good for recommending good tutorials, as I'm almost 100% self-taught (experiment, try, fail, try again, succeed, that kind of thing).
A Google search for "create mirrored image using Photoshop" does turn up a lot of tutorial content, e.g., http://www.photoshop911.com/tricks/mirror_image.html
With Photoshop you can do anything to an image given sufficient time and effort.
    Enjoy the journey!

  • Cannot Paste Image into Photoshop CS4

I've lost the consistent ability to paste images from otehr applications (e.g. screen captures or web browsers) into Photoshop. It doesn't seem to matter what the source application is (so a screen-cap utility versus alt+prtScrn makes no difference).
This is issue is plaguing the majority of artists in our game studio.
It's even happening on new, clean installations. It happens under both XP and Win7.
The problem is progressive -- it starts mildly, and gets worse over days and weeks (not just during a single session).
When Photoshop starts, you can always paste at least one external clipboard image into it. After some number of external pastes, however, PS will simply stop importing the contents of the external clipboard, and will just keep pasting its own internal clipboard over and over. The # of pastes keeps getting shorter and shorter as the problem progresses -- for myself and our art director, we can usually only paste ONCE and then have to restart Photoshop. Twenty times a day.
The "Edit->Purge" menu options are often greyed-out, so that's not an option for fixing.
    Please Help!
    thanks
    kb

There is a registry tweak that affects Photoshop's clipboard importation process.
    Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00
    [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Adobe\Photoshop\11.0]
    “AlwaysImportClipboard”=dword:00000001
Might be worth a try adding that value on your system.

  • Can I scan an image from Photoshop CS4 (or another component?)

I'm new to Photoshop (used to Corel PhotoPaint where I have a command under "File" to "acquire" an image from an external scanner).
Is there a way to do it in Photoshop or do I look for another app in CS4 for that purpose?
    Thanks,
    Rob

I have a CanoScan 8800F, which I can use through Twain (PSE, CS5/32-bit) or WIA (also with CS5/64-bit). The WIA interface offers only very rudimentary functionality (eg no activation of backlight for scanning transparencies). I don’t buy the argument that I should not tie up a $1000 piece of software for $200 (or so) piece of hardware. When I scan, and particularly when I scan old off-color slides, I don’t know beforehand if I can salvage the image with post-processing or if I should adjust the scanner settings. If I scan from Photoshop, I can adjust color and tonality, and I fail to salvage the image, I can re-scan with different settings, while the slide is still in the holder.
Some say that it is silly to a tie up a $1000 piece of software for $200 (or so) piece of hardware. What, then, do you call investing money and learning time for another piece of software if I already own Photoshop and can use it?
The present implementation of the Twain scanning with the 8800F is suboptimal, however. For instance, if I have been scanning slides and the scanner driver is set up for color transparencies, and I then configure the scanner for scanning paper (by removing the slide holder and inserting the back plate which blocks the backlighting), my next attempt to scan aborts with an error message that the scanner is unable to scan slides, probably because the backlighting is blocked. The scanner UI, along with the tab for adjusting scanner settings, is visible in the background, but I can’t access it because of the error message. And when I acknowledge the error message, the scanner UI disappears. I must physically re-configure the scanner to scan slides, then select paper scanning (in the software) and again re-configure the scanner for scanning paper.
    Best regards,
    Antero

  • I cannot get my CD/DVD of Photoshop CS4 Extended (student license) to install properly

I've been working on this all day and I'm ready to give up and use GIMP.  My new computer is Windows 7 Professional.  CS4 worked great on Windows 7 for me (on my last computer).  I get a message that says Photoshop installed "but with errors".  I cannot even open Photoshop right now.  Very frustrated and angry.

    Folks,
We are aware of the backlog in Customer Service to issue serial numbers for education versions of our applications. We are addressing this and expect to clear the backlog in a few days. In the meantime you can install and run your Student Edition in Trial mode. UK and Australia users, please be aware that when you install your application in trial mode you need to select English International from the language options, not the default language English (US).
Otherwise your serial number you will receive shortly won't work until you reinstalled your CS4 product with the English International language selection.
See this tech doc for more info:

We are going to remove individual employee's email addresses from this thread, since having them being flooded with emails won't be a solution.
We appreciate your patience and sincerely apologize for the delays in reaching Customer Service and obtaining the serial numbers.

  • Cannot edit MPEG-2 in Windows Photoshop CS6

Just upgraded to Photoshop CS6 and am attempting (unsuccessfully) to edit some MGEG2 content. The video content has been extracted from Windows DVRMS files using DVRMStoMPEGGUI. I can work with H264 content in Photoshop without a problem.
All MGEP2 videos play fine with both Quicktime and Windows Media Player.
Here  is what happens when I try to edit the file in Photoshop
File is read by photoshop and all looks fine. First frame is shown as expected.  (see screenshot below)
If I try to play the video in photoshop, the elapsed time counters at the bottom give the impression that all is well, but the video does not play.
Attempting to trim the video does update the overall timings of the video, but the first frame is still displayed.
Rendering the video as H264 appears to work - the export dialog appears and a file does get created. THe H264 file export is playable, but consists of the first frame  displayed continually for the duration of the video..
I've checked through other discussions regarding editing MPEG-2 video content in Photoshop and another thread suggested checking that the video content is playable via Bridge. Like with Photoshop, Bridge displays the first frame of the MPEG2 in the thumbnail, but attempting to play it locks up Bridge completely.  Doing a "Reset Settings" with Bridge made no difference.
Any suggestions about how to troubleshoot this further?
    Here is my setup
    Adobe Photoshop Version: 13.0.1 (13.0.1 20120808.r.519 2012/08/08:21:00:00) x64
    Operating System: Windows 7 64-bit
    Version: 6.1 Service Pack 1
System architecture: Intel CPU Family:6, Model:10, Stepping:4 with MMX, SSE Integer, SSE FP, SSE2, SSE3, SSE4.1, SSE4.2, HyperThreading
    Physical processor count: 4
    Logical processor count: 8
    Processor speed: 2660 MHz
    Built-in memory: 24567 MB
    Quicktime 7.72.80.56 + Quicktime MPEG2 7.60.92.0
    Bridge 5.0.1.21 (x32)

Thanks for the quick response guys - I appreciate you taking the time to respond.
Whilst I understand that there are complexities in dealing with MPEG2 content, and using another media format is certainly an option to work around my issue, MPEG2 is listed as a supported file format.
To dig deeper intop the issue, I thought I'd see if I could read any MPEG2 content at all. I've tried downloading a random sample of MPEG2 content from the net - those that Photoshop read exhibited the same issue. That means that I'm either very unlucky with the MPEG2 samples I've picked, or there is a problem with my setup.
Do you happen to know of some MPEG2 content on the net that will work with Photoshop CS6? If I try that and it doesn't work for me, it means there is an issue with my setup. If it does work, the problem lies with the files I'm trying to edit.

  • Help with image analysis Photoshop CS4 Extended

Hi there - I recently went to the Birmingham NEC photo expo and saw a guy there giving a CS4 extended demo.  He showed how at the click of a button a folder of new photos were reduced to a smaller bunch of just the most tack-sharp ones.  I can't find out how to do this with my CS4 Extended - can anyone help - or am I just imagining it all  :-)))

    Sounds interesting.
Did he do that in Photoshop itself or Bridge or Lightroom?
Anyway, I suspect one could maybe achieve something like this in Photoshop with some fairly heavy Scripting, but I suspect the Script would have to actually open the images for analysis …

  • Cannot edit Aperture 3 photo in Photoshop elements 10

When I want to edit a photo in Aperture 3 through Photoshop Elements 10, nothing happens.  The photo does not show up.  It used to work before.

That it never worked right is important to know  .
Reset the external editor selection in Aperture following the instructions at the link I posted above.
You should be able to right-click an Image, select "Edit with NamedEditor", edit the copy of your Image that Aperture creates and sends to the external editor, close your file in the editor (do not "Save As"), and end up back in Aperture with your original Image next to your selected duplicated-and-edited Image.
    Do you?

  • Edits to an image in photoshop do not transfer/save back to iPhoto

I am used to editing images from iPhoto in my Photoshop software. Once saved, the edits used to automatically appear in iPhoto, but recently, the updated/edited images do not appear in iPhoto unless they are selected and enlarged (using the space bar.) If the images in iPhoto are not individually selected but simply viewed in the main window, the edits are not visible. This can be very confusing. The fact that the edits used to appear in the main window makes me question if iPhoto has become corrupted. Maybe I need to reset the Preferences? Is it because I a have accumulated about 5,000 images in my library and the program is maxing out? How do I reset preferences or fix the situation, so that all edits appear in the main window? Thanks in advance for anyone who can help.

So, to clarify, what's happening is that the Thumbnails are not updating to match the changes made in Photoshop?
Where is your Library? On your start-up disk? On an External? If on an External, what format is that?
This might be a form of corruption, try Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild.
Maybe I need to reset the Preferences?
Perhaps? Try trash the com.apple.iPhoto.plist file from the HD/Users/ Your Name / library / preferences folder. (Remember you'll need to reset your User options afterwards. These include minor settings like the window colour and so on. Note: If you've moved your library you'll need to point iPhoto at it again.)
    *What's the plist file?*
For new users: Every application on your Mac has an accompanying plist file. It records certain User choices. For instance, in your favourite Word Processor it remembers your choice of Default Font, on your Web Browser is remembers things like your choice of Home Page. It even recalls what windows you had open last if your app allows you to pick up from where you left off last. The iPhoto plist file remembers things like the location of the Library, your choice of background colour, whether you are running a Referenced or Managed Library, what preferences you have for autosplitting events and so on. Trashing the plist file forces the app to generate a new one on the next launch, and this restores things to the Factory Defaults. Hence, if you've changed any of these things you'll need to reset them. If you haven't, then no bother. Trashing the plist file is Mac troubleshooting 101.
Is it because I a have accumulated about 5,000 images in my library and the program is maxing out?
iPhoto 09 is good for a 250,000 images so you've got a little headroom yet...
