Cannot eject card reader

I hope this isn't a redundant question, I've searched and searched and couldn't find an answer. I just switched to Mac about a month ago and so far so good, no problems I couldn't resolve but yesterday I got a new Canon FS 200 camcorder and wanted to import some video. I took the video than removed the SDHC card and put it in my card reader, the card reader appeared on the desktop and when I opened iMovie it imported flawlessly but immediately following the import the card reader disappeared from my desktop so I couldn't eject it. I looked for an alternate way to eject it but it was gone so I just removed it and put the card back in my camcorder. I use this same card reader for iPhoto and I can always eject it after imports so my question is, does the card reader automatically disconnect (eject) after completion of an import into iMovie 09?

I tried that once and the memory card was damaged - couldn't use it again. Luckily my photos had already been imported.
Thanks.

  • Can't eject card reader!

    Greetings,
I have a compact flash card reader (USB 2) that i plugged into the USB slot on the front of my MacPro. I copied the wanted photos over to my hard drive, used the "eject" button from the Finder window to eject the card reader.... and it disappeared for a split-second only!
Then it reappeared and launched iPhoto to get me to drag the photos over again. So again i ejected the card reader (after closing iphoto) and almost instantly it reappears.... the never-ending cycle.
If i try to hurry up and remove the card reader after ejecting, i get an error message saying it must be ejected properly and i've probably damaged some files...
What am I doing wrong in this process?
    Ideas??
    Thanks,
    Pedro

Replace your card reader. My Belkin multi-card reader seems to work best with both PCs and Macs. If the reader does not adhere to the standards set for them, there usually are driver and card reader issues.
My card reader was all of 20 -40 dollars, don't remember. I have several others, firewire, USB..... that have caused problems on various systems. They sit on a shelf collecting dust. They are all name-brand readers, but that doesn't seem to matter, as far as how well they work with my systems. My brothers card reader kept us from adding a WD My Book 500 HD to his PC laptop because the driver for the reader wouldn't release the drive letters etc. ( lame explanation I know ), in order for the WD drivers to be installed correctly. Borrow one from a friend if you can and see if theirs works on your system. If I remember correctly, they sell Belkins at the Apple store.

  • Help! Photo Downloader Cannot Find Card Reader

Photo Downloader cannot find the card reader, just indicating <none detected> within the Source Selection.  Refreshing the list does not help.  OSX mounts the volume and other applications have no issue finding the volume.
Any suggestions on how to resolve this?
    Details:
    MBP 17 (early 2011)
    OSX 10.6.8
    PSE9
    Lexar Pro ExpressCard CF Reader
    Thanks a bunch!

Mac OSX can R/W to FAT32 and NTFS volumes, no problem.
Image Capture does not detect the memory card in ExpressCard reader.  I think this is because Image Capture supports only USB and Firewire ports and not ExpressCard.
I can manually copy the images from the ExpressCard reader using File>Get Photos>From Files and Folders with no issues but with this multi-step method it is quite a nuisance when Photo Downloader should do this in one step.
From what I understand about using Photo Downloader is it will automatically create new subfolders in the destination folder with the new subfolder names based on the shoot date of the image, it will automatically copy the image files from the memory card to these new subfolders and it will automatically import the images into PSE Organizer. This seems to be hugh advantage for using Photo Downloader.
BTW, Canon ImageBrowser MemoryCard Reader Utility has no issues with the ExpressCard reader.  I just want the ability to use Photo Downloader without having the extra step of using the Canon application.
I can connect the camera via the USB port and Photo Downloader detects the camera images without issue.  But it is a pain to have the DSLR plugged into the laptop in addition to the slow transfer speed.
I think the issue is with Photo Downloader not supporting the Mac ExpressCard slot.  I hope I'm wrong about this.
And I wonder why Photo Downloader does not have a manual browse method in addition the the automatic method to select the source location?
    Thanks for the suggestions.

  • Tecra M2 - Card reader doesn't work on Windows 7

    Hi All
I've installed Win 7 on my TECRA M2 and everything worked fine at once ... except for one thing! The SD card reader is not recognized (worked well with XP).
    Any hint please ?
    Thanks in advance
    JP

Tecra M2 is very old notebook model and it won't be Win7 supported.
In my opinion you should be happy that Win7 works well on this old notebook model. I cannot imagine card reader is so important and you cannot live without it.
Card reader is specific hardware component and, as you probably know, limited with reading SD cards with different capacities.
Maybe it sounds pessimistic now but I don't believe you will be able to find some "independent" driver for it.

  • Cannot eject usb camera card reader from iphoto

I have a card from my Nikon camera plugged into a USB card reader. The photos import into iPhoto just fine. When I try to eject the card readers using the eject icon in iPhoto or drag it to the trash in iPhoto or irhgt click the icon on the desktop and try to eject or use Finder, the card reader icon disappears for a second, then iPhoto downloads its photos again. There is never enough time to safely remove the card reader.
    Help!!!

I tried that once and the memory card was damaged - couldn't use it again. Luckily my photos had already been imported.
    Thanks.

  • EJECTING EXTERNAL CARD READER

I use a Canon Rebel XT (first generation). The compact flash for this camera is usually too big for newer computer's, so I have a Dynex External Card Reader that accomodates 5 different size compact flash disks, one of which accomodates the canon rebel xt's gigantic card. my problem is not being able to "eject" the disk, or the device properly. it appears as "NO NAME,"  when I attach its USB, determines "new pictures," gives me the option to "import all, or "new." but when i've finished importing the pictures, I cannot figure out how to properly "eject" the device. and so I've tried using Finder to locate and eject for the usb before pulling the compact disk out of the reader as not to possibly damage any pictures, but no matter what I do, I get a warning that reads, "to avoid damageing images on your disk, properly eject the device first." How do I do this?????? pleaseeeeee
    thanks
    francesca

It should show up as NoName in the source pane on the left in iPhoto - click the dismount icon to the right of the name
same should be true in the finder - click the dismount icon to the right of the name
and using the dismount key on your keyboard should do it if you have a standard Apple keyboard

  • Device removal error.....   The card reader ejects itself

Hello, I'm new to macs and purchased a Mac Mini a week ago. Things were going well until I needed to move pictures from a digital camera to my mac.
I purchased a GE 19 in 1 card reader which is built for mac os x. I hook it up to a usb port and try and look at some pictures. After a few seconds, the card reader ejects itself and I get the "device removal" error. The error will then continue to appear over and over again. When I try to eject the reader using by clicking eject, the reader ejects and only reappears a minute later and ejects itself again. I've tried using another usb port and I know for sure that its not the cable.
If I can't get any prompt answer here, I'm going to call the Genius bar tomorrow morning and ask about the problem. <Edited by Moderator>

More often than not, when a card reader or other similar device disconnects from the USB bus because it is drawing too much power. In a card reader, that would not unusually be triggered not by the card reader itself, but by the insertion of a card causing it to read the content and mount the volume on the Mac's desktop. Part of the problem is that while everything is invariably quoted as USB compatible, many such devices don't entirely comply with the USB standard, resulting in conflicts or load demands which may be borderline, or worse.
You may be able to get more reliable performance from your reader by disconnecting other USB devices when you are trying to use it, or by using it with a powered USB hub. Occasionally, borderline problems can be temporarily resolved by connecting the device to a different port, if necessary switching devices around. Alternatively, it may be that in an attempt to produce a device with the greatest flexibility in terms of media compatibility, they have compromised on components.
I would generally recommend a card reader designed for the specific card type you need. These are typically far more reliable. If you need to use different types of card media, then be prepared to spent on a well established brand with a reputation in this sector of the market, such as SanDisk.

  • Cannot use thunderbolt card reader

I purchases the authentic authorized and over priced official Apple thunderbolt sd card reader.   I am using it on IPad Air running IOS 8.1
I plug it in and get Cannot use Device Message  USB Storage Devise Not supported
The sd card is FAT formated and has a DCIM directory which I read was required to make the card readable
(Although the same cards were readable on a IPAD 2 with the older non thunderbolt connector
Do I have to also but the SD card from apple to make it work??

hi. you'ne not talking about thunderbolt (Macs) but lighting connector (i know, it gets quite confusing)
"Do I have to also but the SD card from apple to make it work??" : Apple doesn't make SD cards, so no.
Contact Apple Support, these SD readers often have problems

  • My Macbook pro sd card reader cannot work at Lion 10.7

When I upgrade my Macbook pro (2010) to OS X Lion 10.7, I found SD card reader cannot read SD card !How to fix it?

If you installed a retail version of Windows, the order of installing drivers and utilities matters.
Best to restore the hard disk from Toshiba recovery media.
       Order Toshiba Recovery Media
Otherwise, use the attachment as a rough guide. Notice that the chipset software followed by the display driver are installed prior to other drivers and that the Common Modules is installed before other Toshiba utilities.

hey guys, so I have a DVD stuck in the CD drive on my mac. It reads it as being in there, but I cannot eject it and it is causing my a lot of issues with my mac. If i try to eject it, Finder acts up and I have issues saving projects or even browsing files. I feel like it interferes with iPhoto as well because it says it is locked and I have no rights to view it. I wanted to see if anyone else had/s this issue and how you fixed it before lugging it into the apple store and being without a computer for a few weeks...

A few other suggestions here as well:
