Cannot eject disc from iMAC superdrive

When I insert a CD or DVD into my iMAC superdrive it is recognised and will play but then it is not displayed in the finder sidebar. consequently I cannot eject the disc. The only way to eject is to restart the machine.

1. Click on Finder or your Desktop and with Finder on the Menu Bar open Finder Preferences. Next click on the Sidebar tab in Finder Preferences and make sure that (CDs, DVDs and iPods) is checked.
2. Also check the General tab if you would like these things to also show up on your Desktop.
Lastly you should also be able to Eject CDs & DVDs using the Eject button on the Menu Bar.

  • Cannot eject disc from iMac (physical problem not  software)

*Problem description*: When my iMac attempted eject a disc I could hear a thump and feel the disc hitting something on the case after which it would give up and reload the disc. The cause of this problem was a misalignment of the drive with the slot on the case. This in turn was caused because the front and the body of the iMac (the back part) had sprung apart a bit.
*Problem solution*: The solution was to squeeze the front and body together by placing my hand on the upper right corner of the iMac with the palm on the front and the fingers on the body. I could feel the bezel and body press back together with a very mild snap. After that there were no more problems with ejecting discs.
Comments: I move my iMac around a bit and assume the the separation of front from back happened during transport.

    1. Click on Finder or your Desktop and with Finder on the Menu Bar open Finder Preferences. Next click on the Sidebar tab in Finder Preferences and make sure that (CDs, DVDs and iPods) is checked.

The article Ejecting a disc from the PowerBook G4 disc drive suggests some approaches.
If none of those work for you try this:
    • Restart the computer with the Option, Command, O, and F keys held down.
    • Issue the following italicized commands:
    eject cd ( Return)
    mac-boot (Return)
The CD should now be out of the drive.

  • How to eject disc from iMac with no power

Did  Apple update from app store today. Said it was for iphoto and some other stuff. Mac started running real slow and and got unresponsive. Tried restarting with no luck. Now it will not boot at all, gets about a quarter inch on the load bar filled then shuts off. Tried the boot disk and still no luck have the app install disc but can't eject the start up disc now. It's an intel iMac running Lion.

Try holding the Mouse button down while powering up to eject it.

  • I can't eject dvd from imac 27

i cant eject dvd from imac 27 some tips please

Restart and hold down a mouse button. That signals the system to force eject any disc in the drive. If that doesn't work then the drive might of failed or at least the eject motor of the drive.

  • HT3964 Cannot eject disk from Superdrive?

I have an Apple Superdrive connected to my iMac. I loaded a music cd, and ejected successfully. Then i inserted a dvd with photographs, just to check what was on it. I now cannot eject this dvd. I cannot see the disk drive or file anywhere. have tried to eject using button on keyboard. Have followed steps which tell me to shut down computer, unplug and restart after 15 secs. Also done Restart. Feel like chucking the drive at the wall! Can anyone help, please?

Just realised that the restart will not work, as I cannot close iPhotos. When i try to close it, it says cannot close as photos are importing. Can only be referring to the photos on this dvd stuck in the drive. Doesn't appear to be any way tp abort the import into iPhoto from dvd, but import is not actually happening! What can i do?
Force Quit iPhotos. If you don't know how to force quit an app, click the Apple symbol in the upper left of the display and select Force Quit, select the application (iPhoto) and hit Enter.

I cannot eject a disc.  Machine is trying - I can hear the grind!

Five ways to eject a stuck CD or DVD from the optical drive
Ejecting the stuck disc can usually be done in one of the following ways:

      2. Press the Eject button on your keyboard.
      3. Click on the Eject button in the menubar.
      4. Press COMMAND-E.
      5. If none of the above work try this: Open the Terminal application in
your Utilities folder. At the prompt enter or paste the following:
            /usr/bin/drutil eject

  • Cannot eject disc

Awesome.Spent around 900 bucks today to upgrade my G4 mini to an intel solo core mini.
Not only did I struggle with target mode and have to do 2 re-installs and move apps manually , but I purchased a mighty mouse that I cannot use.
I inserted the disc, ( the first disc after the last re-install ) and cannot get it out. I have rebooted several times with the mouse button held down, I have used the eject key, I have held down command option f o ...nothing. I have tried to fake burna disc from iTunes, I get an error message telling me there isnt software to burn or a burner installed. The closest apple store is 75 miles away...Oh Yeah, I have now had my mini for 8 hrs and havent been able to do sh*t with it. I should have kept my G4 1.25 mini.
    Any help??

First, quit all applications that are using files on the disc. Then try one of these alternate methods:
Choose Apple menu > Restart and hold down the mouse or trackpad button until the disc ejects.
I am not sure if the following applies to a Intel based MAC:
If all other methods fail, you can try to eject the disk using the firmware (this may not work on all computers). To use this method, start up and briefly use the computer with only the firmware loaded, not the standard Mac OS X interface.
To eject a disc using firmware:
    Restart the computer.
When you hear the startup sound, press and hold the Command-Option-O-F keys. (The Command key has an Apple on it.)
Release the keys when you see a white welcome screen.
    At the prompt, type:
    eject cd
Press Return, then wait a few seconds. The disc drive should eject the disc, and "ok" appears on the screen when the action is complete.
    Type:
    mac-boot
    Press Return.
Your computer starts up normally and you see the familiar Mac OS X desktop.

  • Cannot eject ipod from my computer

every time i connect my ipod this thing e_t tm auto play shows up. i can see my ipod in windows and in itunes. but when i try to eject it from itunes and the little green arrow in windows it says, the device "generic volume" cannot be stopped right now. what do i do? the only way to disconnect my ipod is to shut down windows which is pretty annoying. sigh, cannot wait to get a mac.

Well, it may not specifically be your PC...but get rid of it anyway.
It could be that your iPod is conflicting with another device on the USB chain. Connect your iPod to a rear port on your doomed PC, then connect your keyboard and mouse. Disconnect ALL other USB devices including printers, external hard drives, digital cameras, phones, scanners, modems, thumb drives, improbability drives, flash camera memory readers, etc. If you are on a network, disconnect from the network.
After this give your iPod a new drive letter, something much higher such as M or P or Z.

  • Eject disc from menu bar & Hardware Test Disc Questions??

After upgrade to 10.4.5 on my G5 2.5 DP, I notice the little underscored triangle thing is gone from the menu bar.
Any way to get it back? Kinda handy for open & closing the disc drive and ejecting discs. The other ways I know and use, but sorta fond of doing from menu bar.
Also, notice there's no Hardware test disc with Tiger. Where'd that go? O.k. to run the one from 10.3?
Additionally, what happens if you run it without pulling out all 3rd party PCI cards?
    Thanks, p2
    G5 DP 2.5   Mac OS X (10.4.5)

"Any way to get it back?"
    Double Click on: /System/Library/CoreServices/Menu Extras/Eject.menu
    "Where'd that go?"
It's not on retail copies of OS X. Use the one that came with your computer.
"what happens if you run it without pulling out all 3rd party PCI cards?"
    Nothing should happen.

  • Cannot eject disk from bootcamp set up

Just setting up the bootcamp with Windows XP disk, all the installment is done but when you get to the end and windows says 'restarting in 13 sec's, please eject disk we cannot eject and it then states in a black background - disk error, press any key to re-start - nothing working when we do this. Have tuned on and off with same response - disk error, Think if we can just eject the disk it will be ok, using a wireless keyboard (but did not install keyboard software) thanks

You cannot eject the disk from the Mac during the install process. You only have access to the eject key after the Windows install is complete and after you install the Bootcamp Windows drivers from your Mac OS X disk. That is why you need to use a full version instead of an upgrade version per Apple's Bootcamp documentation. If you have a full, supported version of Windows you should be able to complete the install and reboot. Then you can boot into Mac OS X (holding the alt key after the ding and the white screen appears on the computer), eject the Windows install disk and insert the Mac OS X disk, then boor Windows and install the Bootcamp tools.
It sounds like your wireless keyboard is the problem here. You probably need a wired USB keyboard to do the Windows install. A USB keyboard (or the build-in notebook keyboard) will work for the install process (typing in the codes and what not).
