Cannot eject disk

I burned a music CD. I ejected that disk and inserted a 2nd disk to make a 2nd copy. It does not show on the desktop. I have searched the forums and tried all the suggestions and still cannot eject the disk. I have Toast and a couple of disk ejector apps. Terminal commands, single user commands do not work. Must I take this to an Apple Store?

I did more research, found a few more ideas, tried them all, no dice. Resigned myself to a trip to the Apple Store on Monday.
Returned to the computer, (left on), a couple of hours later, and the disk had ben rejected.
I was going to make a chain of ALL the attempts to eject the disk and say, "This works!"
As a precaution I have trashed the culprit disk.

Five ways to eject a stuck CD or DVD from the optical drive
Ejecting the stuck disc can usually be done in one of the following ways:
      1. Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the
left mouse button until the disc ejects.
      2. Press the Eject button on your keyboard.
      3. Click on the Eject button in the menubar.
      4. Press COMMAND-E.
      5. If none of the above work try this: Open the Terminal application in
your Utilities folder. At the prompt enter or paste the following:
            /usr/bin/drutil eject
If this fails then try this:
Boot the computer into Single-user Mode. At the prompt enter the same command as used above. To restart the computer enter "reboot" at the prompt without quotes.

  • HT3964 Cannot eject disk from Superdrive?

I have an Apple Superdrive connected to my iMac. I loaded a music cd, and ejected successfully. Then i inserted a dvd with photographs, just to check what was on it. I now cannot eject this dvd. I cannot see the disk drive or file anywhere. have tried to eject using button on keyboard. Have followed steps which tell me to shut down computer, unplug and restart after 15 secs. Also done Restart. Feel like chucking the drive at the wall! Can anyone help, please?

Just realised that the restart will not work, as I cannot close iPhotos. When i try to close it, it says cannot close as photos are importing. Can only be referring to the photos on this dvd stuck in the drive. Doesn't appear to be any way tp abort the import into iPhoto from dvd, but import is not actually happening! What can i do?
Force Quit iPhotos. If you don't know how to force quit an app, click the Apple symbol in the upper left of the display and select Force Quit, select the application (iPhoto) and hit Enter.

  • Cannot eject disk from bootcamp set up

Just setting up the bootcamp with Windows XP disk, all the installment is done but when you get to the end and windows says 'restarting in 13 sec's, please eject disk we cannot eject and it then states in a black background - disk error, press any key to re-start - nothing working when we do this. Have tuned on and off with same response - disk error, Think if we can just eject the disk it will be ok, using a wireless keyboard (but did not install keyboard software) thanks

You cannot eject the disk from the Mac during the install process. You only have access to the eject key after the Windows install is complete and after you install the Bootcamp Windows drivers from your Mac OS X disk. That is why you need to use a full version instead of an upgrade version per Apple's Bootcamp documentation. If you have a full, supported version of Windows you should be able to complete the install and reboot. Then you can boot into Mac OS X (holding the alt key after the ding and the white screen appears on the computer), eject the Windows install disk and insert the Mac OS X disk, then boor Windows and install the Bootcamp tools.
It sounds like your wireless keyboard is the problem here. You probably need a wired USB keyboard to do the Windows install. A USB keyboard (or the build-in notebook keyboard) will work for the install process (typing in the codes and what not).

  • Cannot eject disk. plz assist

    hello
I loaded a DVD disk on my iBook. Not only does the disk not appear on my desktop, it keeps trying to load and eject, over and over. I used Open Firmware to try and eject. Doesn't work. Also tried Disk Utility, but the disk doesnt show up on the list. The disk just keeps on trying to load then eject. Any ideas are very appreciated.

I'm not sure what you mean by trying to load and eject. Does it spin up and down, in the drive, but never opens the drive?
One way to eject a stubborn disk is to hold down the mouse button while starting up the computer. Another way it to unbend a small paperclip, and push it into the little hole on the superdrive's door until it unlatches and opens up.

Try holding down the trackpad button while starting up the PowerBook.  Holding down mouse button during start up ejects the disc in the optical drive, so I'm guessing it would work the same with the button the the trackpad.

  • Cannot eject any disk or disk image

I cannot eject any disk or disk image except with disk utility. Dragging to trash, sidebar or toolbar buttons, even the keyboard button will not work. Restarting holding mouse button and disk utility eject button do work. Any suggestions?

    Try doing this:
Boot from your Tiger DVD. After the installer loads select Disk Utility from the Utilities menu. After DU loads select your OS X volume from the list on the left, click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the installer. Now shutdown the computer for a couple of minutes and then restart normally.
If DU reports errors it cannot fix, then you will need Disk Warrior (3.0.3 for Tiger) and/or TechTool Pro (4.1.1 for Tiger) to repair the drive. If you don't have either of them or if neither of them can fix the drive, then you will need to reformat the drive and reinstall OS X.
See if this restores your eject functions.

  • Erased machine, bad installer disk, cannot eject!

After experiencing numerous crashes on my fairly recently acquired macbook pro, I decided to erase and reinstall the system, which I had planned on doing anyway because I wanted to partition the disk. I used Disk utility to set up my partitions and started the install. After reaching less than 25% install an error appeared indicating there was something wrong with "Essentials" and the install would not continue. I retried a couple of times and got the same message. I have only used the disk to try and repair the original OS which didn't do any good. I'm guessing the disk is damaged but I cannot eject it! The machine has no OS! What do I do? Not a happy Mac camper right now.

ok. Ran the Hardware test and immediately got an error. Removed 1 ram chip, tried again, still error. Put the chip back in and removed the second one, bingo! No error! I repartitioned the drive and installed the OS no problems.
Now, what to do about the chip problem. I should think it falls under the hardware warranty. Anybody have any idea how that works? Can they check the chip, will they just take my word for it?
Thanks everyone for the help so far!

  • Cannot reinstall Tiger : installer stuck (cannot make disk bootable)

    Good afternoon experts,
I am writing to you here as I have a problem with the Tiger installer which suddendly stops when trying to install on a prepartioned disk.
First, some background information : I have a 20' iMac Intel machine which I bought on February 06 (well designed machine, happy with it so far). The thing is, I have had serious crashes and lockups using the UB version of VLC (media player) which led me to hard reboot the machine several times. Despite the journaling on the disk, some of my filesystem was corrupted, seemingly beyond repair (some apps did not even boot, nothing happened when I plugged in an external disk, etc). Scanning for disk errors and permissions problems revealed that a lot of files had been damaged ("extended allocation" error) in both the system and in my applications.
As I did not know what to do (I should have asked first here whether it was possible to reinstall only parts of the OS using, maybe, a package manager), I synced my backups and went for a reinstall.
The thing is, the disk is already partitioned, as I also run Linux on the machine (updated firmware and repartitioned the disk w/ BootCamp; worked well). It contains, in that order : the hidden EFI partition (fat32), the macOSX HFS+ volume (where I want to install), Linux swap partition, HFS+ partition (for use w/ rEFIt, the EFI bootloader), and two Linux ext3 partitions.
The install starts fine (booting from the DVD which came with my machine), the macOSX volume is formatted but the installer just then stops. Looking at the logs, I can see that it is because it cannot make the volume bootable (this is what the error message says). Note that it correctly read the partition table/EFI partition scheme as it gives me the correct partition types I have presented above. Also note that I cannot do an "archive and install" procedure, seemingly because I have insufficient space (6GB free on the volume); the installer does not give me any choice. Finally, I can still boot into Linux holding the 'Alt' key and using the builtin volume chooser to start on the second HFS+ volume.
I am asking for help to you gurus, to know what to do here. I was think maybe something like using the shell to do a manual 'bless' would solve the issue; I would like however to be sure before proceeding. Otherwise, is there a manual installation procedure (as there is for instance on the Debian installer, allowing to skip/redo some install steps)?
    Thanks for your help experts,
    Vincent
PS: I am going to see whether I can collect the logs and post them here.

  • Cannot remove Disk Icons from Disk Images or External Drives from Desktop

After years with PPCs, I just upgraded to an Intel Mac. I am now running into a funny problem. The majority of the time (although occasionally it works as it should), I am unable to eject disks. These include disk images from my internal hard drive, external hard drives, and disk images from external hard drives.
I do not get the “Cannot eject this disk because it is in use” error that happens when something is trying to access a file on the disk; instead, nothing happens. I’ve tried ejecting by dragging the icon to the dock, hitting the eject icon in finder, right-clicking and ejecting from there, and even using a terminal-based script that I found on the WEB. None of these do anything- no errors, but the icon hangs about as if nothing happened.
Occasionally I cannot log off at all (I just get the SBBOD); here I have to do a hard reboot. Sometimes I can log off properly. Either way, all seems to be fine when I log back in.
    I’ve run Applejack multiple times.
Any suggestions would be most appreciated! Thank you.

If i try to eject it, Finder acts up and I have issues saving projects or even browsing files. If it's a one-time "glitch," you can try restarting your computer with the iPod still connected.  Try ejecting again after the restart.
If the problem recurs, you may have a process running (other than iTunes) that is accessing the iPod's storage.  When connected, the iPod's "disk" is like other mounted volumes.  This process may be some type of utility that continously monitors your mounted volumes for security reasons, such as to prevent access by malware.
If you know of such a program that you have running in the background, there may be a setting to exclude your iPod's disk.

Hold down the Power button until the computer shuts down (save your open files first)
Wait a few seconds and hold down the d key, now tap the power button to boot the computer
keep holding the d key and run the hardware test, write down any errors it finds and then take your machine to Apple.
