Cannot eject/read discs in Windows XP Pro on iMac

I just installed Windows XP Professional on my new iMac dual core computer.
The next step was to "Eject the Windows XP CD" so that I could insert the Mac Drivers CD and install that software. When I went to eject the Windows XP Pro disc nothing happened. I tried clicking on "Eject this Disk" and nothing happened. I finally shut down and restarted as a Mac, ejected the Windows XP disc and then restarted in Windows again. I then inserted the Mac Drivers CD, but Windows acted like there was no disc inserted. I couldn't eject. I had to restart again in Mac to eject the disc.
Does anyone know why Windows isn't recognizing a disc when inserted in the disc drive of my new iMac?
Thanks!
Cyndy

Hi Cyndy,
Assuming you have a way to move files between OS X and Windows (e.g. your Windows partition is FAT32, a USB pen drive, etc), there is a way for you to install the drivers without having to install them from a CD.
1. Go to Applications > Utilities
2. ctrl-click "Boot Camp Assistant"
3. Select "Show Package Contents" and a new window will open
4. in the new window, go to Contents > Resources
5. open DiskImage.dmg. A disk image called "MacintoshDrivers" will mount on your desktop.
6. In this disk image, you will find a file called "Install Macintosh Drivers for Windows XP.exe". This is the install program you need to run in Windows in order to install the Apple drivers.

  • Still cannot eject the disc

I've only just opened the box. Hoping to switch to mac from PC. Using the PC to send this appeal... switching cables all but the monitor) frequently to attempt my mini remedy.
I've tried all of the reboot, key strokes (PC keyboard) and tricks... I still cannot eject the disc.
I got as far as making a partition but failed to install MS XP Pro... I suspect the change in keyboards midstream caused the mini to lose the keyboard identification.

Try holding down the mouse button right from the moment you turn the computer on, and keep holding it down until the disk comes out, even all the way up to the login screen (if it even gets you that far).

  • I accidentally clicked restart with windows vista.now i cannot get out of it. i cannot eject the disc and i am stuck on the installation page

I accidentally clicked restart with windows vista. now i cannot get out of the installation  page and no matter what i try i cannot get it to start up with macintosh. i cannot ejet the disc either.

i was going to say the exact same thing as jerry.  You can also eject the disk in that mode if you want.  It also works if you hold down the option key before you turn it on- just so you dont miss the moment.  What I say to do is power off, hold down the option key, while holding it down, power on.  When a menu pops up, you can let go of the button.  Once in the mode, select with the mouse your mac os hard drive/ boobable and then click enter or click the arrow on it. Then your fine!

  • Cannot Create Recovery Media in Windows 7 Pro for x120e

You can have only one copy of the Microsoft Windows operation system. The Product Recovery Media Creator will exit now.
HI all. First, I have read "Creating Recovery Media in Windows 7" at http://support.lenovo.com/en_US/detail.page?LegacyDocID=MIGR-74040.
I get this message when attempting:
You can have only one copy of the Microsoft Windows operation system. The Product Recovery Media Creator will exit now.
What happened is that I blindly copied the recovery files to a USB and just copied to a folder on my desktop XP machine. So now my X120e is saying, sorry, you can't do that again. You already did it blockhead!
So how the heck do I undo this so I can create appropriate recovery media? System restore rollback? Registry key editing? Here are the files on my XP, I have no idea if I create Windows 7 pro recovery files from these.
Thanks all for any suggestions or known fixes,

    Hi chadnc
Have a look at the first bit of the post by The_Solutor  in this thread :Making a usb stick with the Lenovo recovery partition bootable maybe that will help.
Like many things Microsoft, the "you can only burn recovery media once" limitation just inconveniences the honest users, but doesn't slow down the bad guys. Oh well....

  • Cannot eject iPod  from iTunes Window

When I try to eject my iPod from the iTunes screen I get a "Windows - No Disk" pop up error saying that there is no disk in the drive, put a disk into the H drive. I also get an iTunes message alert that The iPod cannot be ejected because it contains files that are in use by another application. I can see the iPod name in Windows Explorer and I can safely eject using the XP Window's "Safely Remove Hardware" feature, but I want to fix this problem and free up whatever file that is being used by another application.

Are you using any third party applications to access/manage your iPod. I know that Red Chair Anapod causes this conflict with iTunes and I'm sure that other applications do to. Try uninstalling iTunes and then reinstalling the latest version.

  • Adobe Reader latest version / Windows 8 Pro

Since upgrading to Window 8 Pro have not been able to open any documents. I have uninstalled both Windows 8 Pro and Adobe Reader several times. I have run the compatibility program. Nothing works and I've tried 3 browsers.
Now my job is being jeopardised as most of the documents I use as a private teacher come from the internet.

Not sure what "not been able" means, but a few things to try...
Using Windows Explorer navigate to C:\Program Files (x86)\Adobe\Reader 11.0\Reader, then double-click on Eula.exe and accept the license agreement
Can you open Adobe Reader by itself?  If so, try disabling Protected Mode [Edit | Preferences | Security (Enhanced)].
It could even be a malware issue; see http://helpx.adobe.com/acrobat/kb/reader-core-dll-error.html

Hold down the Power button until the computer shuts down (save your open files first)
Wait a few seconds and hold down the d key, now tap the power button to boot the computer
keep holding the d key and run the hardware test, write down any errors it finds and then take your machine to Apple.
click Shutdown and the disk will eject.

  • Windows 7 Pro on iMac (mid 2011) and network slows down

We have an office with about 8 mid 2011 21" iMacs running Windows 7 Pro courtesy of Bootcamp.  The machines boot quickly and all programs open quickly.  They each have from 2 - 4 mapped network drives to a 2012 Windows Server 2008 R2 HP GL380 server on-site and are wired with Gig Ethernet HP business class switches).  The users' Documents, Desktop, and a couple other directories are re-directed to the file server using an Active Directory Group Policy Object (GPO).
A couple of the computers will regularly start to slow down after only 20 or 30 minutes of use.  The rest have occasionally experienced it but it's always independent of others experiencing the slowdown.  The computers with the more regular slowdowns I've also booted into OS 10.7.x and the transfer rates to the same file server are fast and consistent.  BTW, all computers are current on Windows updates and Apple updates.

  • Installing and Unistalling Windows XP Pro on iMac pro

I understadn from research that I can install Windows XP on my iMac Pro ( don't have it yet...) by using boot camp, this seems fairly straight forward. My question is can I uninstall it.
My reasoning is that currently I am running some PLC programming software that is only XP supported, however there are inklings that these will be iMac compatable. I want to run the Xp version under boot camp, then upgrade to Mac OS when they are available.
Is it possible to uninstall XP once installed?

Go to this url and read all about Bootcamp from the best source.
    http://www.apple.com/support/bootcamp/
You should especially read this guide before attempting any BootCamp installation or you might screw it up badly.

  • Cannot Install iTunes 9 in Windows XP Pro 64-bit

    Okay, here's the situation:
I was an early adopter of Vista, in its 32-bit form. Ran fine, lasted a long time. Needed more memory, so installed Vista 64-bit a few months back as part of an upgrade to a larger boot disc.
Initially, the version (whatever it was) of iTunes installed and worked okay, but after an upgrade of Windows and iTunes (done at the same time) killed the whole thing. It installed correctly, but when I ran iTunes, it would hang.
I know about relatively short hangs while trying to connect to the iTunes store, as well as the potentially hours-long hang during the 'gapless playback' process, but these hangs were for more than 12 hours in some cases, and required that I manually end the program.
About a week ago, I decided to go back to XP Professional because several updates had created an unusable environment for iTunes, even with deleting everything Apple and starting over multiple times.
With a clean Windows XP Professional 64-bit install, I thought I might have a chance. Turns out, I was wrong.
I downloaded the latest iTunes 64-bit package, only to be told this is for Windows Vista 64-bit only. Fine. I downloaded the latest iTunes 32-bit package and was greeted with a message that suggested I download the 64-bit version. Are we sure Microsoft didn't buy Apple somewhere along the line? This is not the sort of nonsense I have seen in about 15 years experience with Apple products.
Next I looked for any tricks or tips that might help me do what I wanted. I learned Orca is more than a Sea World attraction, and many other new things. At the end of the day, I cannot find any way to successfully install iTunes 32-bit or 64-bit into Windows XP Professional 64-bit.
Is there anyone that has successfully installed the latest iTunes (32- or 64-bit versions) into XP Pro 64-bit without hacking, cracking or smacking their system? Anyone? If so, I would love to hear how it's done.
It's painfully obvious that Apple never tested this O/S or they might have fixed the problem before releasing iTunes 9.
Although my iPhone contract ended about two months ago, I'm not rushing out to get a new phone until this problem is resolved. Currently it is essentially a paperweight as I have no access to some application updates that will only complete when it is tethered.

Follow the directions here.  But the problem is that the I-tunes installer calls for the wrong file name so… if you rename the file named “AppleMobileDevice64.msi” to “AppleMobileDevice.msi” it should install.  When it says “iPod service failed to start…”  run this patch then click “retry” it’ll work fine.  Merry Christmas from Lokie!
P.S. Please repost the patch thanks

  • Cannot sync apps from PC Windows 7 Pro to ipod gen2

I purchased a new computer running Windows7 pro and I can't sync apps.  I can remove them from my ipod, but not update or install apps.
I have disabled my anti-virus program.
I've authorized this computer to my itunes account.
I've tried to drag and drop apps under my ipod apps and then selected sync.  It says determining apps to sync but it never does sync.
    I have reset my ipod.
I have removed itunes and downloaded and install the latest version.
I can sync my contacts and calendar
    Nothing seems to work.

I created copies of each of the 7 folders in the root directory of the C: drive then proceeded to sync.  For a moment I thought this had solved the problem as an icon for all 7 folders appeared on the iPad however after the sync has finished only 4 folders remained in the iPad and not all of these contained a complete copy of those on the PC.
Thanks for the suggestion.... still looking for a solution.
    Peter.
