Cannot embed MOV file in Acrobat

I hope this is the right forum for my question - it's the closest one I could find...
My problem is that I get an error message when I try to embad a MOV file into a PDF using Acrobat 9. This has worked in the past. Now suddenly I'm being told the annotation cannot take place either because it can't find the file (but surely it can find it: it was among the items present to me to choose from), or because "the URL is unreachable (make sure the proxy server settings are correct)".
I should mention that these 'MOV' files are actually JPGs that I want to open in a floating window, and that I simply renamed from JPG to MOV so Acrobat's MOV-playing code would kick in. This is a technique I have used successfully in the past - unless the past ones were GIFs (I forgot which) - and furthermore, one can simply double-click these 'MOV' files in Windows Explorer and Quicktime opens them with no problem.
(As to the hypothesis that previous successes were with were with GIFs instead of JPGs. But I just tried that, and Acrobat perceived right away that the MIME types were different and didn't even initialize the authoring system. With JPGs re-named to MOVs, it gets past there, and only complains when you specify the parms (e.g. No Poster, etc.) and it tries to load it. With these renamed GIFs just as with the renamed JPGs, if you simply double-click the 'MOV' in Windows Explorer, Qucktime opens it with no problem.)
As to the 'proxy' issue, I do have a proxy set in my browser (Foxfire), but I have disabled it by chosing 'No proxy' in Options. Just to be sure, I re-booted, brought up Foxfire, and confirmed that it was still set to 'No proxy'. But I still get the error. What could it be?
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

My earlier JPG > MOV solution still works beautifully, even in the latest versions of Acrobat Reader, but – as I have now sadly discovered – it leads to errors in the production of new examples with the current version of Acrobat, and even to a space-wasting and visually ugly result with the latest versions of Vegas Video, which is the app I used earlier to convert my JPGs to MOV in the first place. But thank you for your SWF solution, since that will at least enable me to open the graphic images in current versions of Acro Reader, despite the fact I will now have to include within the SWF itself a message saying ‘to close this window, click in the upper right hand corner of its border’ or some other tacky solution, such as a separate button within the page, departing from the style of all the other RMAs in the PDFs I’ve already prepared. Also, if I want to avoid the (minor, but ugly) letterboxing that occurs when the SWF windows are re-sized or moved, I’ll have to open them via the new interface with its compulsory icon, since that letterboxing occurs only when the SWFs were embedded in legacy mode.
(The fact that the letterboxing occurs only when the SWFs were embedded in legacy mode tells me that that little bug probably belongs to Adobe, not to the app creating the SWFs. Another bug that must belong to Adobe for the same reason is the fact that the Get From Media button does not work when the SWFs were added in legacy mode, but does work if one embeds through the new interface. Yet a THIRD problem – or at a least poor design given how I want things to work – is that the SWF windows can be dragged out of the confines of the Acrobat window if added in legacy mode, although not if added via the new interface. It seems likely that different sets of Adobe programmers were working on the new vs. legacy interfaces. I’m sorry to have to say these things since you seem to want to defend Adobe, but these are the facts as I see them.)
Thanks also for the heads-up you provided as to what I’ll have to contend with in the future. In view of the huge workload I already have on this project, however, instead of trying switch to an entirely different platform, I’m wondering if my best strategy might not be to just continue on my present course using Acrobat, and count on Adobe to resolve these issues in future versions. (Yes, I realize that could be a risky bet.) Let me ask, though, whether Flash or some other product (Flex? AIR?) would meet my needs anyway. Its essential that whatever product I choose have the ability for users to view videos frame by frame, and not slap the play-stop-pause-etc buttons over my sub-titles.
Also, while I’ve written only one app in Flash (a little cartoon clock that worked) - and that was 20 years ago - my impression is that it’s mainly for video. Two properties of my current project seem to make a product like Acrobat much more appropriate: (a) It’s basically TEXT – what I’m working on are research papers and an e-book in linguistics, in which the audio and video clips are examples to prove or illustrate points being argued for in paragraphs of connected prose, to be understood in relation to the full document, as in any article or book; and (b) there are often several of the media clips relating to a particular example grouped closely together: putting them all in the page would make for a much longer result that’s harder for a reader to follow when the clips span possibly several pages for each example. And there will be many, many examples. You can get a sense of what the project is about by having a look at www.vincentasl.info. But that website belongs to an early phase of the project, before it became necessary to add subtitles to all the sign language videos, and include lots more media clips for each example, in addition to graphs showing the rising and falling pitch for some of the audio examples (the situation with the SWF files we have been discussing).  If you’d like to see a sample of the latter, I’d be happy to send one to your e-mail address, as I don’t see a way to attach PDFs to posts in this forum.

Mov is a container format, you'd need to look at the codec used by the movie file inside the container to know whether it will work with the Apple TV or not.

It used to work fine. I wonder if the problem has something to do with the recent iPhone update. Is there any Premiere update I can download?

Well, if it used to work... and then you updated your iphone and now it does not work... that seems to ME like the iphone update changed something in the files

How do I around this problem?

We need to know a lot more if we're going to help you.
What happens when you try? Do you get an error message? If so, exactly what does it say?
What version of Premiere Pro? Have you installed the recent updates? What operating system?
Does this happen for all .mov files or just some? Has this ever worked before? What version of QuickTime do you have installed?

  • Cannot delete movie file from iTunes

After converting movie file via Quicktime and adding it to the iTunes library, I am not able to remove it anymore. If you try to delete it, it crashes iTunes and after that all desktop icons are frozen. The movie does not play in iTunes, you cannot edit its info without crashing iTunes either. Movie plays in preview pane in Finder....
Is there any other way to remove the file from iTunes?

Try deleting the file without iTunes running.
When you next open iTunes it should then be marked as a missing file and you should be able to delete the entry from iTunes.
    Hope this works

  • Cannot import .mov files into FCE

I bought a new Kodak Zi8 pocket video camera to use to finish a video project because my right hand is in a cast and I cannot use my HD video camera. Unfortunately for me, I have a deadline to meet.
I shot video at 720p and tried to import it into FCE 4.0.1 to edit using Log and Transfer and got the warning message, '"863_0156.MOV" contains unsupported media or has an invalid directory structure. Please choose a folder whose directory structure matches supported media.' I also shot video at 1080p and, of course, cannot import it into FCE either using Log and Transfer.
I am still a relatively new FCE user and would appreciate any suggestions you can give me. I looked in Tom's book (FCE 4 Editing Workshop)on page 73. Will Quicktime Pro 10 convert the files? If so what is the procedure?
I have seen similar questions in this discussion forum on importing .mov files, but I haven't seen a solution that works for me. How can I convert the .mov files to get Log and transfer in FCE to accept them?

    Hi(Bonjour)!
This pocket camera record H.264. So the material as to be converted to a format supoported natively by FCE as Apple Intermediate Codec 1080. Search this forum with +MPEG streamclip+ keyword.

  • Cannot import MOV files

Can anyone please suggest what I am doing wrong ?
I use Final Cut Express v 4.0.1 to edit my films, then export as a Quicktime movie *.mov file. The file shows ok in Finder\Movies\Quicktime exports. When I open iDVD (v 7.0.4) the movie does not appear in the Media Browser and therefore cannot be imported into the project. How do I import it ? Please ? I need to make a DVD of the movie.

Have you read 'Preparing your Final Cut Express or Final Cut Pro movie to work with iDVD' at http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?path=iDVD/7.0/en/6652.html
Note it ends by saying "A QuickTime file that references your Final Cut Pro movie is created on your hard disk. This is the file you will add to your iDVD project. When you are ready to add it to your iDVD project, you can simply drag the file from your hard disk directly into iDVD. "
It also applies to Final Cut Express.
That's what you need to do - drag the file from your hard disk directly into iDVD

  • Cannot import .MOV files with Premiere Elements 12: generic error. Using Windows 8.1 (64b)

This question was already on the forum for older version of Premiere and Windows. I'm making my videos (.MOV format) with the digital camera Casio EX-ZR400.
I have no any problems with Photoshop Elements 12 for pictures produced by this camera.

    Dngineer
What is the source of your .mov file..(brand/model/settings of the camera that recorded the video)......what is the video and audio compression and frame rate?
Are you working with the 12.1 Update of 12? If not, please do so using an opened project's Help Menu/Update. Both QuickTime and Premiere Elements need to be run from a User Account with Administrative Privileges. Are you doing that?
    Narrowing things down
Are all files with the .mov file extensions the only video files that you cannot import into the program? Any exceptions?
When you open Premiere Elements 12/12.1 to the Expert workspace and go to Publish+Share/Computer/QuickTime, does that choice have its presets?
Let us start here and decide what next based on your reply.
    Thank you.

  • Cannot View .mov Files

I have exported some files to .mov format on an external hard drive.
Recently I re-installed my system and found out that "some" .mov files cannot be viewed by QuickTime Player.
    There's voice but no pictures.
Only some .mov files cannot be viewed. some are able to be seen.
So what's the problem and how do I fix it?
    Thanks.

Sorry I can't help you. As I said it depends on the version you're using. Some versions say Movie Inspector some say Movie Info.

  • Cannot import .mov files (from JVC HM100) into After Effects CS6

    Hi,
I am trying to import .mov files into After Effects CS6.  Unfortunately, when I try to import the .mov files, AE tells me "After Effects error: 210_0001_01.mov cannot be imported -- this '.mov' file is damaged or unsupported."  The file works in Premiere CS6.   I have the latest Quicktime, and even with Quicktime 7 Pro installed, I got that same result.  I would appreciate any advice on this problem.
    Thank you.

I'm going to set up a new sequence with just the clip I'm using after effects on.  I'm going to import that sequence into AE.
Your footage is currently a long-gop codec, which may be giving Mocha fits.  So instead of Dynamic Link, you may want to simply export the clip in question from Premiere using a lossless codec.  Remember to leave handles on the footage.
To get back to Premiere you would then render in a lossless codec.  It's not very handy, but it will get the job done.
Give it a try and see what happens.

  • DW CS4 cannot embed mp3 files

    Windows 7.  IE 8,  Firefox 3.6.8, Chrome
I want to embed mp3 files in my web pages. I go to Insert/Media/Plugin and select an mp3 files from the box that appears. The placeholder for the player appears on the appropriate spot on the page. I highlight the placeholder and click on the Play button in property inspector. An error message then appears saying "Unable to find the plugin that handles this media type. Dreamweaver looks in both the Configurations/Plugin folder and the plugin folder for each of your installed browsers". The Config/Plugin folder contains NPSWF32.dll and UnsupportedPlugins.txt (contains npdsplay.dll nppdf.dll). Also when I go to Live view there is a blank space where the player should be. I do not have any problems playing mp3 files with WMP, Real audio or Quicktime which are all installed on my computer.

Here are the formats the first generation iPad supports.  MOV files are included.  But note the formats are limited, as the first generation iPad does not have a camera.

you will find that there are probably some files in that folder that FCP does not like, in the import dialogue box, there is a choice at the bottom left
    "Show:"
it is possible that you have it set to "All Files"
    change this to "Standard Files"
If there is a file that is then greyed out, eg. a PowerPoint file, you need to create the assets in a format that FCP can recognise, or as David suggests, get the codec.
