Cannot empty trash can in iMac. Says I have no access to some of the items. Any ideas?

I created some files and folders on my iMac and deleted them. This time around when I try to empty the trash can via secure emptying it says I have no access to some of the items... Very strange. I had done same a while ago and worked with same files and folders. I restarted system. Same problem persisting. "Get Info" on files shows read and write. It is my own personal Mac... Any ideas? Thank you.

You can try to repair the permissions for the Firefox application files and folders.
    You can also do this:
    * Download a new copy of the Firefox program: http://www.mozilla.com/firefox/all.html
    * Trash the current Firefox application to do a clean (re)install.
    * Install the new version that you have downloaded.

  • Trying to upgrade to 3.6.8, and it says I can't because I "don't have access to some of the items. What in the world does this mean, and what do I do?

I'm on a new Mac Mini running 10.6.4, bought in January and loaded with what I assumed was the latest version of FireFox--what I have is 3.5.2. I know I upgraded at least once since January
When I try to download 3.6.8, it says that I "don't have access to some of the items."
I don't think I've downloaded any plug-ins or anything that should trigger this. I have done a bunch of the standard upgrades that Microsoft incessantly sends out to fix problems in the Office suite. Haven't added any new applications. Can't figure out the problem. HELP!

    Hello.
    Try this:
    - uninstall your current version of Firefox (no data will be lost)
    - delete it's Firefox install folder (not your profile folder)
    - install the new version
That should circumvent this problem. If you can't delete your Firefox install folder, after having uninstalled it, maybe it's because some of the files are locked. Try rebooting the system. If that doesn't help, ask Apple for support.

  • I can't download Firefox on my MacBook Pro message comes up saying I don't have access to some of the items

I download and then drag the icon into the application folder. Then a message comes up saying I don't have permission or access to some of the items. I have no idea what that means. My computer is MacBook Pro operating system 10.6.7

  • When I try to upgrade to the newer version of Firefox, this is the message I get (I am using OS 10.4.11): The operation cannot be completed because you do not have sufficient privileges for some of the items.

I have recently dropped Earthink as me dial-up provider. I now am using Virgin Mobile Broadband2GO. I was using Safari. I am now using Yahoo! Mail Plus. It suggested I switch to Firefox. I had an older version of Firefox (2.0.0.6) and started using it. It suggested I needed to upgrade because many of the newer web sites wouldn't work well on this older version. I downloaded the newer version and proceeded with the installation and it would tell me this: '''The operation cannot be completed because you do not have sufficient privileges for some of the items.''' I have re-downloaded and tried it again two more times. I haven't a clue what that means or what to do about it.

  • Why won't Firefox 6 transfer to app folder, says I don't have sufficient privileges for some of the items?

I've tried to download the most current Firefox and it downloaded but I can't save it to my apps or use it due to this error message:
"The operation cannot be completed because you do not have sufficient privileges for some of the items." Not sure what to do now?

Firefox 4 requires at least OS X 10.5 and an Intel Mac.

  • I want to update my 2008 macbook. It also freezes, says I have no memory, and is just outdated. Any ideas on the cost to update?

My 2008 Macbook constantly freezes....applications constantly pause or have no response. I often can't even force quit....I need to hold down the power button to shut down the whole system. It also says I have little or no memory all the time, even though I have deleted a lot of things. I can't afford to buy a whole new computer. Any ideas on the approximate cost of updating??

Cost, no, Maintenance on your part, yes.
You need to free up disk space. Control click the MacintoshHD icon on your desktop or open the Finder, control click startup disk icon then click Get Info.
You'll see Available and Capacity. Make sure there's at least 15% available disk space.

when i try to replace 3.16 in the applications folder, i'm told i don't have the authority to change some of the items. (if an exact quote is required, get back to me.)
this has happened every time i've tried to do it even though i've trashed version 4.0 and downloaded it fresh.

  • Dialog box says "The operation cannot be completed because you do not have sufficient privliges for some of the items." How can I install it in my Aplications folder?

I am running 10.5.8 on a quad core 3.0 GHz Mac Pro. Have 2 GB RAM, and 2TB Hard drive with 538 GB space remaining. Have never had this dialog happen before.

I assume you are attempting to install a newer version of Firefox?
    It seems the solution is:
    # Download a new version of Firefox to your Desktop.
    # Delete the current version in your Applications folder.
    # Install the newly downloaded version.
Note: Your bookmarks and other data will not be affected.

  • Cannot download newer version of Firefox. When I drag the icon over the folder it says "Cannot upgrade. You do not have sufficient privileges for some of the items."

Everything seems to go as planned according to the steps on the screen except for the last one dragging the icon over the file folder.

Download the new version you want with other browsers like IE (Windows), Safari (Mac) and remove the last version. Then install the package you downloaded.
Here you can download version 6.0: [http://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/all.html Download]
Also for older versions: [ftp://ftp.mozilla.org/pub/firefox/releases/ Here].

  • I have downloaded an update to Firefox, but when I try to load it I get this message, "The operation cannot be completed because you do not have sufficient privileges for some of the items" and I have no idea what it is talking about or how to change it.

The previous version of Firefox is still on and operational. I get this message when I try to drag the Firefox icon to the application file icon. Since this is my computer, and I am the administrator, I don't know what privileges I lack, or on which items. If there is a way to correct this I would like to do so and activate the new version. It looks like the new version is 7.0.1 for Mac OS. This happens everytime I try to load the new version by dragging the icon.

If there are problems with updating or with the permissions then easiest is to download the full version and trash the currently installed version to do a clean install of the new version.
Download a new copy of the Firefox program and save the disk image (dmg) file to the desktop
    * Firefox 7.0.x: http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/all.html
