Cannot enable "Apple Mobile Device" in Services for Windows 7 64-bit. Please Help!

Hi,
First post here, but I've been trying to figure out a solution towards iTunes opening my iPhone 4 so I can sync it. But every time I sync it, it gives me a message saying "This iPhone cannot be used because the Apple Mobile Device service is not started".
To try and resolve this, I tried the enabling "Apple Mobile Device" in services method, but when I try to start the service again, I get yet another message from Windows saying "The Apple Mobile Device service on Local Computer started and then stopped. Some services stop automatically if they are not in use by other services or programs".
At a first glance, I thought I needed iTunes to be running my iPhone whilst I try to turn the service on, but all I get is the same message saying "The Apple Mobile Device service on Local Computer......", either if the device is connected and attempting to run or not.
This problem appeared out of nowhere when I plugged it in, just to sync some songs and pictures to it. So I don't know what's causing this issue!
And yes, I uninstalled iTunes 10.4.1 and Apple Mobile Device and then reinstalled them. But the issue still continued. Grrr......
It has lasted a stressful 3 days now and if anyone knows a solution or can find one, please let me know as soon as possible.
Many thanks,
Martin.

  • Apple Mobile Device Support Problem 7.7 with XP - PLEASE HELP!

    Very frustrating problem...
    I get the following message:
"A later version of Apple Mobile Device Support is already installed. Installation of this version cannot continue."
Same thing comes up with Quicktime. This setup prior to this update has worked seamlessly since I bought my 1st gen iPhone. Tried uninstalling both programs and received same error message. I've since deleted every apple reference on the system and cleaned the registry, rebooted several times and still get the error.
    Please help!

"A later version of Apple Mobile Device Support is already installed. Installation of this version cannot continue."
Go into your Add/Remove programs control panel, and uninstall "Apple Mobile Device Support".
If you were able to uninstall Apple Mobile Device Support, restart the PC and try another iTunes install.
If Add/Remove won't let you uninstall Apple Mobile Device Support, or there no entries the for Apple Mobile Device Support there, or even after apparently successfully uninstalling AMDS, an iTunes install still won't go through (throwing the same message at you), download and install the Windows Installer CleanUp utility:
Description of the Windows Installer CleanUp Utility
Now launch Windows Installer CleanUp ("Start > All Programs > Windows Install Clean Up"), find any entries called "Apple Mobile Device Support" in the list of programs in CleanUp, select those entries, and click “remove”.
Quit out of CleanUp, and restart the PC.
Does an itunes install go through properly after that?

  • Cannot uninstall Apple Mobile Device Support

I have a pc with Windows 7 (32-bit) operating system and cannot get Apple Mobile Device Support to uninstall.  I begin the uninstall process and it goes through however at the very end it reverses and then tells me that it is done.  I have deleted all the program files and it still does this.  I cannot get this to uninstall... please help.

First try a repair install of Apple Mobile Device Support. If that goes through successfully, see if you can now uninstall Apple Mobile Device Support.
If the Repair install doesn't help, try using the fixit from the following Microsoft document to remove Apple Mobile Device Support:

  • ITunes install fail -  Apple Mobile Device Support not installing - Windows 8

So I have a Windows 8 Pro system, and I've had to reinstall iTunes. Anyway I've been completely unable to do so. It simply either gets an error and does not install (where does itunes store its installer log files so I can see whats happening?) at all or it gets to the part where its starting up services and it fails when its trying to install and start the Apple Mobile Device Support service and so when I start iTunes I get an error message like this one:
"This iPad cannot be used because the required software is not installed. Run the itunes installer to remove itunes, then install the 64bit version of itunes"
I've tried several times to uninstall and manually delete all the files related to itunes, but this has made no impact.
I have no idea what to do. Reinstalling my OS and all the apps just to get iTunes back really isn't something i want to do.

All sorted now.  Sorry b noir, but I cannot remember the error.  What I did was use the idea from another thread to copy the necessary files from one computer to another.  Fortunately I have a laptop on 8 so updated iTunes and coppied all the files from the /Program Files (x86)/Common Files/Apple/Mobile Device Support.  I then downloaded 2 programs to make the necessary registry entries.  This did not fully work so I searched the laptop registry for the version number of Mobile Device Support and then put it into the same desktop registry key.  This worked as I was now at the correct version.

  • HT1923 I cannot uninstall apple mobile device support.  I am following the instructions for removing and reinstalling itunes but now stuck.  Please help.

I am following the instructions for removing and reinstalling itunes because I had a "msvcr80.dll missing from your computer" error.  I have uninstalled itunes and apple software update but the next one in order "apple mobile device support" will not uninstall.  According to the instructions, that one has to be removed before I can do the rest.  Would love any help I can get.

Hello and thanks so much for your quick reply. I am at a standstill, because I have done those things already and it has not worked. The repair install procedure seemed to take place quickly, but the same thing happened again when I tried to uninstall it the program after that.... It seems to proceed, then the progress bar goes backward, and there it still is!
When I downloaded the Microsoft Fixit program and asked it to uninstall the Apple Mobile device Support, it started but then got stuck and I had to shut my computer off, as it froze everything up!
I'm hoping you can help..... This seems to be a problem with the new version, and it's frustrating, because I can't use Itunes on my computer at all till we find a solution.
Perhaps if I try to restore my computer to before the Itunes 11.1.4 uodate?
Thanks so much for your help,

  • Cannot install Apple Mobile Device USB Driver

When I open iTunes my iPhone 4S will not show up as a device. I have tried the advice provided by Apple. I have gone through the iPhone Troubleshooting Assistant. That gave no solutions. I have tried the other solutions offered by Apple. I think that I have possibly identified the problem. As far as I know the Apple Mobile Device USB Driver is not installed on my computer. I have tried to install it but when I do I receive an error message. I repeat the entire error message in the following paragraph. The message appears in a dialogue box with the name: "Update Driver Software - iPhone".
"Windows encountered a problem installing the driver software for your device. Windows found driver software for your device but encountered an error while attempting to install it. Apple Mobile Device USB Driver. Access is denied. If you know the manufacturer of your device, you can visit its website and check the support section for driver software."
I cannot find a solution to this problem on Apple's website. How can I get this driver installed?
My version of iTunes is current. My PC's operating system is Microsoft Windows Vista Home Premium Service Pack 2.

if you haven't resolved that issue , i had the same problem and after 2 days working on it i found a solution , windows security wasn't letting me chage permisions or install any new software here's what i did :
    1- control panel
    2- system and security
3- under windows  firewall click on allow a program over windows firewall
4- what i did was click on every single box there is on private not public
5- click accept , after i  went to device manager right click iphone update driver  , you shouldn't have the access denied anymore

  • Cannot install Apple Mobile Device Manager

I love my iphone (It's the first Apple product I've ever bought), but I cannot get it to connect to iTunes on my PC. I get an error message when I first plug in the phone--while it's installing the Apple Mobile Device USB Driver, I get the old "error installing hardware. Your hardware may not work properly".
I have tried everything. I uninstalled iTunes and any Apple applications. Then I disabled ALL programs and services on my computer not relating to running Windows and restarted. Once the computer restarted, I reinstalled the latest version of iTunes, plugged in the iphone, and got the same error.
I don't know what to do next. Any ideas?
I'm running Windows XP pro, with all the latest updates.

I don't know exactly which registry entry you should delete (I don't have a PC any more). Hopefully someone here will chime in with an answer.
I do know that with the iPod you have to make sure you are running iTunes before plugging it in and to click the eject button before disconnecting it, otherwise you will have a boat-load of problems.

  • HT1923 Cannot uninstall Apple Mobile Device Support

It begins to uninstall, then seems to reverse itself?  I can uninstall all other pieces of iTunes?

Go to Control Panel > Add or Remove Programs (Win XP) or Programs and Features (later)
Remove all of these items in the following order:
    iTunes
    Apple Software Update
Apple Mobile Device Support (if this won't uninstall move on to the next item)
    Bonjour
    Apple Application Support
Reboot, download iTunes, then reinstall, either using an account with administrative rights, or right-clicking the downloaded installer and selecting Run as Administrator.
The uninstall and reinstall process will preserve your iTunes library and settings, but ideally you would back up the library and your other important personal documents and data on a regular basis. See this user tip for a suggested technique.
    Please note:
Some users may need to follow all the steps in whichever of the following support documents applies to their system. These include some additional manual file and folder deletions not mentioned above.

  • I tunes 11.1.04 Cannot Install Apple Mobile Device Support. Help!

After about three days of uninstalling and reinstalling everthing to do with Apple on my pc (Windows 8.1) starting with the MSVCR80.dll problem, I have arrived at a position in which Itunes will play music and contact the store, but it won't link to my Ipod, my Iphone or my Ipad, because Apple Mobile Device Support is not there.
In each of my many clean installs of 11.1.04, the installation of that one component rolled back. When I tried installing AMDS from 11.1.04 on its own, it rolled back. When I tried a clean install of 11.1.03 to see if that would help, AMDS again rolled back.
I have run scannow which identified some corrupt Windows files (no doubt wrecked somewhere in the course of the disaster) and then restorehealth, which fixed them. But AMDS still rolls back: "The installer encountered errors before Itunes could be configured. Errors occured during installation. Your system has not been modified."
I have wasted hours on this, I have exhausted every approach I can think of, and all the relevant sources of support I've been able to track. I would be very grateful for any advice anyone can offer.

See also Troubleshooting issues with iTunes for Windows updates if you haven't already done so.
After uninstalling iTunes and the related components it is useful to physically delete any files that may remain in the specified locations before attempting to reinstall.
If that still doesn't work you could try downloading 7-Zip (free), or a free trial of WinRAR, and unpack the iTunesSetup.exe or iTunesSetup64.exe file into its components then try installing them individually in alphabetical order (don't try to install SetupAdmin.exe or iCloud.msi). AMDS might not install right now, but you may get a more useful error message as to why not, and you might be able to run iTunes even if you can't update your devices at this stage.
Make sure you download a fresh copy of the installer as it was updated some time after the initial release.
