Cannot enable cookies

Cannot enable cookies even after gong thru tools, options, privacy, "use custom settings for history" procedures. Reverts back to "remember history". Firefox 4.0

Hi, Alison. OS X includes a whole lot of little components that one ordinarily never sees. Some are invisible, and some are just buried deep down in the folder hierarchy somewhere other than the Applications folder. Some of these are applications, though they have no user interfaces and you probably don't even suspect that they exist, never mind interact with them directly. If you do a search for all the applications on your hard drive, some or all of these will turn up, depending on what you use to search for them. And because they're part of the OS, heaven only knows what consequences will ensue if they're deleted.
I don't know exactly how AppZapper works, but I mistrust anything that, without my informed consent, deletes any file whose function(s) I don't know. I've always refused to use automated "cleanup" tools that substitute their developers' judgment for my own. And especially since adopting OS X with its hundreds of thousands of mysterious files, I've completely refrained from deleting — automatically or manually — anything from my drives that I'm not perfectly certain I can do without. I wouldn't dream of using AppZapper to do a wholesale cleanup, and even less would I dream of setting it loose on any application that lived outside the Applications folder. Nor would I delete any application from inside that folder that was installed as part and parcel of my OS (such as Disk Utility, Mail, Safari, Address Book, iCal, and a host of other small utility apps: Printer Setup Utility, Airport Utility, Image Capture, DVD Player, etc.).
Maybe I'm just needlessly suspicious. But considering how often in life things prove to be interconnected in unexpected ways, and how bewilderingly complex OS X is "under the hood", I suspect that your faith in AppZapper's good judgment about what was OK to delete may have been misplaced.

In Safari, click on Safari in the upper left of your screen and then click on Preferences.  Go to the Security tab...... see below.  Select either Never or From third parties......   That should do it.

  • Cannot save two home pages on FF 24 after making changes as instructed, reseting FF and enabling cookies as it instructs. How can I do this? I can do it in IE

I have had remote control of my computer with specialists at Silicon Valley and they cannot change the necessary settings and have them saved either. Have talked to numerous people at Xfinity (I am changing from AT&T to Comcast). Xfinity cannot help either. They said to email Firefox.
I can save my home page as well as another one for emails in IE for Yahoo but not Xfinity. Xfinity has tab come up that says "enable cookies." I have done everything to get the two home pages to open upon startup of FF in Xfinity but cannot do it.
    Is there any help?

Did you try to set the home pages via Firefox/Tools > Options > General?
If you only open both pages in tabs then you can click the "Use Current Pages "button.
You can remove all data stored in Firefox from a specific domain via "Forget About This Site" in the right-click context menu of an history entry ("History > Show All History" or "View > Sidebar > History") or via the about:permissions page.
Using "Forget About This Site" will remove all data stored in Firefox from that domain like bookmarks, cookies, passwords, cache, history, and exceptions, so be cautious and if you have a password or other data from that domain that you do not want to lose then make a note of those passwords and bookmarks.
You can't recover from this 'forget' unless you have a backup of the involved files.
It doesn't have any lasting effect, so if you revisit such a 'forgotten' website then data from that website will be saved once again.
Create a new profile as a test to check if your current profile is causing the problems.
    See "Creating a profile":
    *http://kb.mozillazine.org/Standard_diagnostic_-_Firefox#Profile_issues
If the new profile works then you can transfer some files from an existing profile to the new profile, but be cautious not to copy corrupted files to avoid carrying over the problem.

  • Cannot download blackberry app world apps - "enable cookies" error message keeps coming

    Hi,
    I have a Curve 3920, running v7.1.0 OS.
Back in July I kept getting low memory messages and it kept getting stuck so I had to un-install apps such as Linkedin or What's App. Then I realized I only had 2GB memory so upgraded to a 16GB one.
Now the blackberry works ok but it is impossible to re-install Linkedin or World Apps app or any other from Blackberry World interface, it keeps coming coming up with ""BlackBerry ID Services. We detect that cookies have been disabled in your browser. Please enable cookies in order to continue." error message, even though I have correct set-up in the device browser option set-up menu.
However I successfully managed to download What's App, but not from app world page.
Any idea of what can be done?
    Many thanks in advance.

    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

Hi and Welcome to the Community!!
    Please try this sequence:
    1) Remove both AppWorld AND the Identity App from your BB
KB10040 How to view or remove installed applications on a BlackBerry smartphone
If it requests that you reboot the BB, do so
    2) Do a Batt-Pull reboot (power on, remove battery, wait, insert battery, wait), even if redundant to the one you did in step 1.
    3) Install (on your BB) a fresh copy of AppWorld (during which a fresh version of the Identity App should also install)
    http://blackberry.com/appworld/download
Again, if it requests to reboot, do so.
    4) Do another Batt-Pull reboot
    5) See if it now works.
    Cheers!

  • I cannot load PayPal through firefox, despite enabling cookies

Up until a few weeks ago, I could use PayPal on my laptop. Now the site won't load at all, although I can access it in the internet cafe. I have tried clearing browsing history and cookies, and specifically enabling cookies. I also upgraded firefox (not sure this was a good move) but nothing has helped. I have had similar experiences with Betfair, where the site will load, but certain pages on the site won't, and again, it isn't the site, it's the browser. Advice please.

Why can't you access it? What happens exactly when you go to http://iCloud.com and login?
What version of Safari and Firefox are you using on what version of OS X?

  • How to enable cookies to watch video clips??

I was sent a link to a website to watch video clips (educational training).
On the registration page it tells me I will need to "enable cookies" in order
to watch the video clips-please adjust your browser settings. It tells me what I have to do but not how.
I've gone to quicktime preferences and everything seems like it's on the correct settings.
    Any clues?
    Thanks

    There is some confusion here.
Firstly you cannot run Safari 4.0.4 with the operating system you show, 10.4.10, you need to update to 10.4.11 AND install the latest Security updates.
Secondly, when you open Safari Preferences you get the following icons:
General, Appearance, Bookmarks, Tabs, RSS, Autofill, Security, Advanced.
In the small Preferences window, top right-hand corner, do you see a small oval 'button'?
    Try clicking on that.

  • Cannot load cookies at all

I cannot load cookies i try to enable and it says i do but it does not so what can i do?

    See:
This is usually caused by a problem with the profiles.ini file and the profile marked as Default=1 in this file is no longer present on the hard drive.
    *Windows: %AppData%\Mozilla\Firefox\<br>C:\Users\&lt;user&gt;\AppData\Roaming\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\&lt;profile&gt;\
    *Linux: ~/.mozilla/firefox/
    *Mac: ~/Library/Application Support/Firefox/
You can use one of these to make Firefox create a new default profile or reuse an existing profile:
*Delete the profiles.ini file to force Firefox to create a new default profile
*Use the Profile Manager to create a new profile<br />Use "Choose Folder" when you create a new profile to select the location of a lost profile and recover this profile

  • WRT54GS v.6 cannot enable security mode.

    hey guys,
I've tried everything, even a firmware upgrade and I've been using IE and I cannot enable any security.  anytime I try to select WPA or WEP or anything it refreshes automatically back to "disabled".  I've tried multiple resets as well and am extremely confused....this is a new comp. but it seems odd for that to be a problem.
    thanks and best,
    Adam

After a firmware upgrade, you must reset the router to factory defaults, then setup the router again from scratch.  If you have not done this since the last firmware upgrade, please do this now and see if it corrects your problem.   If you saved a router configuration file, DO NOT use it.  You must setup the router from scratch.
See ***  RESET TO FACTORY DEFAULTS ***  below, for how to reset your router to factory defaults.
If the above does not fix your problem, then you probably have a communication problem between your computer and router.  To fix this, do the following:
You do not need an Internet connection. The router's "web pages" are built into the router.
Use Internet Explorer, it usually works.
    JavaScript must be enabled.
Use a computer that is wired to the router.
In the non-working computer, temporarily turn off your software firewall.
Point your browser to 192.168.1.1 , then login to your router. Your user name should be left blank. Your password is "admin" (with no quotes), unless you changed it.
If you are using Zone Alarm, right click on the ZA icon in the system tray (lower right corner of screen) and then click "Shutdown ZoneAlarm", and see if this fixes your problem. If this does not work, try the following with Zone Alarm: Open the ZAISS control center, go to Privacy, then temporarily turn off Ad Blocking and Cookie Control, and see if that fixes your problem.
Some Zone Alarm users have reported that adding 192.168.1.1 to their list of "trusted" addresses fixed the problem. This trick might also work with other firewalls.
If you are using Noton Internet Security with the Add-on Pack, be sure to turn off the Pop-up Blocker, and the Ad blocker. Some users have reported that they needed to uninstall the entire Norton Add-on Pack.
If you cannot get anything at 192.168.1.1 then perhaps this is not your router's address. Go to "Start" > All Programs > Accessories > Command Prompt.
A black DOS box will appear. Type in "ipconfig" (with no quotes), then hit the Enter key. Look at the "Default Gateway". Is it 192.168.1.1 ? Point your browser to the "Default Gateway", then login to your router.
If the above fails, disconnect your modem from the router, and try again. If this corrects your problem, then most likely you have a "modem-router" rather than an ordinary modem. Report back with this problem, and also state the make and exact model number of your modem (not the router).
If all of the above fails, power down your entire system, unplug it from the wall, wait one minute, then power up and try again.
If all of the above tips fail, then reset the router to factory defaults: Power down the router and disconnect all wires from it. Wait one minute. Power up the router, allow it to fully boot (1-2 minutes), then press and hold the reset button for 30 seconds, then release the button and allow the router to reset and reboot ( 2-3 minutes). Power down router. Wait one minute. Connect one computer, by wire, to a LAN port on the router. Boot up system. It should work.
If you still have trouble, then you need to download and install (or re-install) the latest firmware for your router. After the firmware upgrade, you must reset the router to factory defaults, then setup the router again from scratch. If you saved a router configuration file, DO NOT use it.
How to do a    ***  RESET TO FACTORY DEFAULTS ***
To reset your router to factory defaults, use the following procedure:
    1) Power down all computers, the router, and the modem, and unplug them from the wall.
    2) Disconnect all wires from the router.
    3) Power up the router and allow it to fully boot (1-2 minutes).
    4) Press and hold the reset button for 30 seconds, then release it, then let the router reset and reboot (2-3 minutes).
    5) Power down the router.
    6) Connect one computer by wire to port 1 on the router (NOT to the internet port).
    7) Power up the router and allow it to fully boot (1-2 minutes).
    8) Power up the computer (if the computer has a wireless card, make sure it is off).
    9) Try to ping the router. To do this, click the "Start" button > All Programs > Accessories > Command Prompt. A black DOS box will appear. Enter the following: "ping 192.168.1.1" (no quotes), and hit the Enter key. You will see 3 or 4 lines that start either with "Reply from ... " or "Request timed out." If you see "Reply from ...", your computer has found your router.
    10) Open your browser and point it to 192.168.1.1. This will take you to your router's login page. Leave the user name blank, and in the password field, enter "admin" (with no quotes). This will take you to your router setup page. Note the version number of your firmware (usually listed near upper right corner of screen). Exit your browser.
If you get this far without problems, try the setup disk (or setup the router manually, if you prefer), and see if you can get your router setup and working.
If you cannot get "Reply from ..." in step 9 above, your router is likely dead. Report back with this problem
If you get a reply in step 9, but cannot complete step 10, then either your router is dead or the firmware is corrupt. Report back with this problem.
If you need additional help, please state your ISP, the make and model of your modem, your router's firmware version, and the results of steps 9 and 10. Also, if you get any error messages, copy them exactly and report back.
Please let me know how things turn out for you.

  • How to get to gmail? I've enabled cookies.

I just switched to Firefox. It will not go to my gmail account due to some "cookies" problem. I've ENABLED cookies. Please help.
edit: removed personal information for your protection. please note that we cannot offer support via telephone, so please continue in the forum. thanks for your understanding! (philipp)

Is this your first visit to Gmail since you installed Firefox, or has it worked before and just stopped working today?
Assuming it has worked at least once before, there could be an issue with a previously saved cookie.
When you have a problem with one particular site, a good "first thing to try" is clearing your Firefox cache and deleting your saved cookies for the site.
    (1) Bypass Firefox's Cache
You can clear Firefox's cache using:
orange Firefox button (or Tools menu) > Options > Advanced
On the Network mini-tab > Cached Web Content : "Clear Now"
If you have a large hard drive, this might take a few minutes.
    (2) Remove the site's cookies (save any pending work first). While viewing a page on google.com (doesn't need to be in email), try either:
    * right-click and choose View Page Info > Security > "View Cookies"
    * Alt+t (open the classic Tools menu) > Page Info > Security > "View Cookies"
In the dialog that opens, you can remove the site's cookies individually.
Then try reloading the page. Does that help?

I thought you had Safari open.
With Safari open, press Command ,  (comma) on your keyboard. That should open the Safari Preferences pane.
    Then select the Privacy tab.
Select:  From third parties and advertisers or Always

  • My scool uses Windows Live for webmail (Outlook), and when I try to access it, it says I have to enable cookies; I already have, but it doesn't recognize it.

Everything worked fine until I was closing my webmail session, and Windows Live said I was not logged out - I had to delete cookies and close all other tabs. I did this, andWindows Live then said I had to enable cookies to log out. I checked my settings, and cookies are enabled (custom settings for history, "accept third party cookies" and "keep until"l are set). I even closed out of everything and did a restart, but no luck. It all works OK in IE still, so it's not the school website's problem. (But I don't want to use IE)
Everything was fine until I deleted cookies - I have always ignored the message about closing Windows Live before - I just didn't today...

  • Why can't I login to Firefox Accounts to set up Sync? FF30+ keeps telling me to Please enable cookies; cookies ARE enabled, already tried Safe Mode.

Exactly what it says on the tin.
Why can't I log-in to Firefox Accounts to set up Sync from my laptop PC? FF30+ keeps telling me to Please enable cookies; cookies ARE enabled, and I already tried Safe Mode. This has been happening ever since the new Sync was implemented, so I'm guessing around FF 30. I am now up to FF version 34 and it still isn't working. I have not been able to sync since the "update."
Problem #1: Going to about:accounts and clicking on the blue Get Started button opens a blank screen. There isn't even a prompt about cookies. It's just blank. Screen shot attached.
This is before add-ons are disabled. If they're disabled in Safe Mode, we go to Problem #2.
Problem #2: I skimmed a thread (https://github.com/mozilla/fxa-content-server/issues/1017) and tried logging in to Sync through accounts.mozilla.com instead, but though the screen doesn't turn blank while add-ons are still enabled, the "Enable cookies" warning is as far as I can get. Going to about:accounts in Safe Mode has the same result. I have cleared all my cookies and my cache, restarted FF multiple times with and without add-ons enabled, and still nothing. I have browsed this support forum for similar questions, and while other people are having the same issue, none of the other threads have been resolved yet. Several FF versions later, this is way too long for this issue to still be unresolved.... Screen shot attached.
I know where Firefox's cookie manager is located, and I have toggled all the settings. I even allowed third-party cookies (though I really shouldn't since they're pointless). No difference. Screen shot attached.
I looked in about:config and searched for the word "cookie" in the names, but even doing that is pointless for me since I'm not a programmer and hence ignorant in what all these settings actually mean. Screen shot attached.
I'm at the end of my rope here, guys. It's been months. A year. Maybe more than a year; I don't even know anymore. I just got a new device and I don't want to add all my Firefox information to it one-by-one. There doesn't seem to be any way to contact Mozilla directly, so.... Someone help, please....

NoScript stops cookies, please disable this addon/extension as well as make sure that the language en-us is installed.
    # 1) Open up the Firefox Preferences tab. You can do this by typing about:preferences in the URL bar.
    # 2) Click "Content"
    # 3) Next to "Languages", click "Choose"
    # 4) Select "English/United States [en-us]", click "Add"
    # 5) re-open "about:accounts"
    # 6) Click "Get Started"
    </blockquote>
Thank you for replying. Unfortunately, I already did all of these things. As you can see from the below screenshot, the language is already set. Also, this screenshot was taken in Safe Mode, so NoScript is not enabled. About:accounts still says I need to enable cookies for some reason. So, this solution didn't work....

    Question
I have a Mac OS 10.6.7 running Firefox 4.0.1. What happened to the enable cookies in Preference/Privacy. It's gone and I think I need to enable. I can't log on to Citibank to pay my bills using Firefox or Safari for that matter. Citibank says cookies must be enabled to access their on-line bank. I wonder if this is the problem...cookies that is?

Yes, I found the cookies, and thanks for taking the time to help out. I called Citibank. They told me that they will not support Firefox or Safari for Mac because our user group is too small for them and the expense too high. The person that I spoke to said in the past, Firefox has worked with Citi, but that was just by accident. At the moment they have no plans to help Mac people using the latest OS log onto their website or enable programs like my Quicken or Mint.com to access. They don't work anymore either. I think all the problems happened after the last OS update.
