Cannot encode 1920x1080 Uncompressed Microsoft AVI

My camera gives me MTS files, which I then almost always encode to an uncompressed avi at 1920x1080 1:1 pixel aspect ratio for editing purposes.  However, suddenly and inexplicably, Premiere Pro and the Media Encoder have both decided that the upper limit is now 1620x1080.  My original footage is 1920x1080, so this makes no sense.  I've tried making sure the software is completely up to date, and this does not fix the problem.
Does anyone have any possible insight as to what might be going on and how it might be fixed?
Many thanks,
Matt F

Lemme guess... you didn't uncheck the Link Aspect Ratio button?
By the way, you probably don't want to use the Uncompressed MS AVI option; if you want an uncompressed file that will be a bit more compatible, select Microsoft AVI with the codec set to "None." Other options for losslessly compressed (and therefore smaller) AVIs would be the Lagarith Lossless Video Codec or the Ut Video Codec Suite.

  • Exporting Widscreen Uncompressed Microsoft AVI?

I am attempting to export using the "Uncompressed Microsoft AVI" format but it exports all skinny.
I had exported using the "Microsoft AVI" format with the "NTSC DV Widescreen" preset and my video is exported just fine. However, I need the video to be in the "Uncompressed Microsoft AVI" format so here are my settings.
So I try exporting with the "Uncompressed Microsoft AVI" format and setting the aspect ratio to "D1/DV NTSC Widescreen 16:9(1.2121) - the same export settings as the compressed AVI export. But the Uncompressed Microsoft AVI format stretches the video vertically with black letterbox bars left and right of the video. When I export the video in the "Microsoft AVI" format with the above settings, the letterbox bars are above and below the video and the video is not stretched.
What am I doing wrong? Why do the 2 formats export the video different with their settings almost the same?

I don't want to make the player have to unsqueeze it. I want to encode it in such a way so the player knows how to properly display it.
If I encode it as "Microsoft AVI" with the Widescreen preset, then the players display it just fine. So it is POSSIBLE to encode it in such a way so the user isn't forced to figure out how to properly play the video. An audience member should should just be able to click on the video and it just plays correctly.
What is it about encoding the video as a "Microsoft AVI" with the Widescreen preset, that it plays just fine in a player? How can I replicate this when I don't use a preset? Is it something that the codec is placing in the video that tells the video player to play the video a certain way? If so, then maybe I have to find the proper codec.
The reason why I didn't wish to encode the video with the normal preset is because I found that I needed to use the "UYVY" codec when I was exporting the video as a "uncompressed Microsoft AVI" because when I did, bright colors within the video no longer looked interlaced. The "None" codec of the "Microsoft AVI" mode also exported the colors well.
So I need to figure out how to export my video that follows the following 4 criteria:
    1) Does not make my bright colors look interlaced.
    2) does not make my video look skinny
    3) my widescreen video takes the entire width of the screen w/o stretching.
    4) I don't have to give my audience a set of confusing instructions on how to set up their video player in order to make the video look the way it ought to.
How can I export my video as an AVI file and follow the above 4 points?

  • Lagarith vs DV AVI vs Uncompressed Microsoft AVI

There is a question and here is scenario:
    I have this source clip:
    DV AVI Type 2
    PAL, 25 fps
    720x576
and want to export from Premiere to intermediate file to later encode to DVD,MP4,FLV...using Mainconcept Reference encoder
What is best codec for this situation?
    Thanx

You can also try setting Lagarith to YUY2 mode, which should save you a good amount of disk space without visible degradation.
    > to go for a visually lossless codec like Lagarith or HuffYuv
Well, unless you are forcing a particular colorspace (like in my example above) LAGS is truly lossless, not "visually lossless"
    > The only arguments I can think of are if nearly the complete timeline requires rendering.
I disagree. I would say that, conversely, if your entire timeline consists of nothing but straight edits of unaltered DV clips then DV is the best choice.
If you have graphics, animation, photographs, titling etc. then you may quite possibly see significant loss by using DV.
    > but count on triple the space requirements from your original footage
Yeah, maybe that's a decent estimate: but this also depends greatly on your source. Cleaner footage (such as that which has had noise reduction applied) may not require any more space than DV... and Lagarith often compresses computer-generated graphics more efficiently than DV, which can result in smaller files.

  • Problems exporting to uncompressed MS-AVI (PPro 2.0)

    Hi!
I have done a little film with still images. When trying to export 20-30 seconds from it (just to try it out), the resulting file is unplayable, and seems corrupt(normally I can play uncompressed video). Before I started this project, I did a test project with other still images, exporting to uncompressed Microsoft AVI, and it was no problem. Now it doesn't work, and neither does uncompressed Quicktime.
Changing the 10-bit YUV compressor to 8 bit results in a file that is playable, but the picture is distorted and made up of narrow lines.
Exporting to DV-AVI works allright, though.
The only difference between this project and the previous test project is higher quality pictures, and texts on top.
Could there be some setting that I need to adjust? Here is all the information I know:
    Computer:
    Dell Dimenion 8300
Intel Pentium 4 CPU 2.80 GHz
    1,50 Gb RAM
    Windows XP
    Service Pack 3
    Premiere Pro 2.0
    project setting: DV PAL Widescreen
    export settings:
    Uncompressed MS AVI
    work area bar
    10-bit Yuv
    25 fps
    aspect ratio: D1/DV PAL Widescreen 16:9 (1.422)
Data rate: recompress, maintain data rate
    Bit Depth: use project setting
    Fields: no fields (progressive)
The pictures are jpg , and the audio is mp3.
It would be great if someone with knowledge could point to what may be the problem!

John caught that "higher quality" mention, as did I. I think that the linked article will be helpful.
Though it does not seem that you are having an issue with the MP3, you might keep this ARTICLE in mind, should you encounter any. Some MP3's never cause an issue, and some users happily use them. In many other cases, however, they do cause issues.
    Good luck,

  • Is microsoft avi the highest quality format to export an avi file in premiere pro cs4?

    Hello,
I exported an avi file in premiere pro cs4 in media encoder using Microsoft avi format but the quality turned out poor on dvd, what's the highest quality format I can use?
    Please help
    Thanks
    Elio

    Elio,
As has been stated, DV-AVI is not the format FOR a DVD-Video. However, it can be used (and often is) as a transport medium into a DVD authoring program, like Encore.
Can you please outline your workflow from PrPro to the final DVD, and is it a DVD-Video (will contain MPEG-2 material in VOB "containers"), or a DVD-Data, that is then played on a computer with something like Windows Media Player, VLC, MediaPlayer Classic HC, etc.?
Good luck, and please let us know exactly what you are doing, and the programs used.

  • Media Encoder CS4: uncompressed outpup not smaller than 720x480

I have an video file that is 640x480. Motion JPEG.
I want to convert it via the Media Encoder in an uncompressed Microsft AVI. But I can not the size of the output file to match the input file. I can make it bigger than 720x480 but not smaller.
Is this a minimum size for that format or why does it not match with the input file?

AVI is just a file format. The
codec determines how the video is encoded inside the file.
If you choose "none" as the codec then the video will be uncompressed.
Some codecs only support specific frame sizes because they follow standards, so it is important to know your codec of choice very well.
    Cheers

  • Microsoft AVI is only rendering audio

All I'm trying to do is export a Microsoft AVI DVPAL clip from a MPG2 file edited in premiere.
It looks fine when adjusting the export settings but as soon as it moves to media encoder then it will not render the video element, just the audio.
It is acting like an audio only codec, like i've selected WAV...
If i change the export settings to another format such as WMV then there's no problem.
Any suggestions? I've spent a whole morning just trying to sort this.
    (i'm working with CS4)
    Cheers

    Hi Harm,
    Thanks for helping out again.
    Here are two screen shots
The first is when you initially hit export in Premiere and it pops up with the settings window:
Which is what you'd expect with video and audio options ticked
But when Media Encoder opens and you check the settings in there the video option is greyed out (see image)
And it's happening for every project...
I'd be much appreciated if you've any suggestions.

  • Uncompressed YUY2 AVI

How do I view (and convert!) this file? (Uncompressed YUY2 AVI, 3 minutes-ish long.) I have Perian installed along with some other codecs and VLC player. At the moment QT plays some audio only - the film comes up black. In VLC player the film comes up but stutters. In Mpeg-Streamclip I get only a white screen.
    Any ideas?

Is there anyway I can convert these files? I didn't quite understand your point about windows only codec.
You cannot convert files on a Mac with a Windows only codec. You need to find a PC with the codec installed on it in order to do any conversions. This is not an Apple issue, rather an issue that lies with the developer of the codec in question.

  • Using  Adobe Premiere CS3 (ver. 3.2) with Microsoft AVI DV files (4:3, 48Khz) on timeline now ask render (red line) and before didnt.Proyect is DV NTSC standard 48Khz. What it could be?

    Hi,
Normally during months the edition was done with Microsoft AVI DV Files (4:3 NTSC 48 Khz). No effects (just cuts). Proyect settings as DV-NTSC Standard 48 KHz
Since today when the work is done in a new or old proyect (DV-NTSC Standard 48 KHz) and  if the same file (Microsoft AVI DV) is loaded to timeline now is showing a red line over the video on timeline (so requires render). There no effects. This never happens before. it is very weird.
The Premiere is CS3 ver 3.2.0.
This is  happening to 2 computers with the same version. So far I know there is no changes on the systems
I was thinking to reisntall 3.0 and then test and the update to 3.2...
    Any idea?

    Hi,
It worked once in one of the computers. (AVi DV didnt show render red over line). BUt afterwards the problem got back. The only solution so far was to reinstall premiere, update to 3.2.0 in both pc.
It worked for a while then problems was again. Reinstalled for second time, so far 2 days still ok.. It is very weird. I unchecked updates from cs3 and windowsfor just in case has any relation.
    Thanks for your tip anyway.

  • Cannot encode for Blu-ray PP/Media Encoder CS6

This problem seems to stretch across several products, but since the key issue seems to be round encoding I am posting here.  I have searched under various headings in several forums but cannot see an answer.
I recently upgraded to CS6.  I am fairly sure that I was able to do all these things in the previous version.  This is the rough sequence of events.
1  25 minute film sitting in PP CS6 waiting to burn to DVD and Blu-ray.
2  Used dynamic link from PP to Encore and burnt a DVD with no problems.
3  Tried the same project with Blu-ray - failure at the very end of the process.  Cannot now remember the message, but some type of missing file on export.
4  Tried export from PP to ME - error messages at very end of processsaid unkown error.  The hard disc folder in question has been used umpteen times for the same purpose and has 150GB free.
5  Created a separate mp4 file for each sequence.  Imported as asset into Encore.  Would not burn Blu-ray.  Similar error message to above.
6  Used Encore to create disc image from files in point 5.
7  Used another program (Cyberlink Blu-ray disc suite) to burn Blu-ray form disc image - worked first time.
8  Tried again by splitting the main sequence into 3 parts.  Parts 1 and 2 encoded successfully, part 3 did not.
9  Split part 3 into 2 (so now 4 parts) and parts 3 and 4 encoded successfully.
10 Imported all 4 parts into Encore and tried burning BD.  Got Blu-ray error at end of process.
11  Created image from the 4 parts and Cyberlink successfully created BD on same disc.
12  Tried one more time joining together all the 4 sequences that encoded successfully individually - unkown file error again.  Is there some limit that says you cannot encode a BR file over 15 minutes?
Now you could say, why not just continue with the very convoluted workflow that I now have.  Two reasons: I am pretty annoyed that I have paid a large sum for an Adobe suite that is not really a suite (so many interfaces do not work); secondly, it is extremely difficult to break the film into sections and have a smooth connection between them.  Where two sequences join it is impossible to include a transition.  The suggestions on Adobe site when I searched for one of the error messages were less than helpful.  Since this file takes 2 hours to encode I am now getting into days of wasted time.  I cannot understand why it worked first time in DVD and never in Blu-ray.
    Stuart
    Additional note - probably solved
I may have solved the problem.
I found that one of the sequences consistently failed to encode.  I tried to render this in PP and continued to get the same error message: 'unkown error'.  I narrowed down the render to the red lined sections and found that three clips had used RGB colour corrector.  When I removed RGB colour corrector the clips rendered and I was able to encode with AME.  I still have no idea why a standard effect caused this and why it rendered correctly as a DVD.
I don't yet know if the full length film will render - that's the next test.

No one ever responded unfortunately and I never figured out a work around.
In Media Encoder CC there is a system preset for DNxHD MXF which I've used
to yield Avid files. The weird thing is that the CC version does the exact
same thing as the CS6 if you choose quicktime, DNxHD codec, and try to
change the codec settings. None of the settings update. If you find out
anything more about this I'd appreciate getting an update. Thanks!

It's often only a problem of the service dependencies. SCVMM starts to fast, SQL server on the same machine in not initialized yet. Here are working service dependencies to ensure SQL server is initializes before SCVMM starts.
You can set the service dependencies directly in regedit (as always: be careful modifying the registry ...)
Here is the content of a reg file setting the dependency.

  • Microsoft DV AVI or Microsoft AVI?

    Hey again guys.
When I export, I usually do the file type as Microsoft AVI, and the compressor Cinepak Codec by Radius.
Is it "better"(quality, time, size wise) to use Microsoft DV AVI with a different compressor such as DV NTSC or DV PAL?
    Thanks for your answers!

    > compressor Cinepak Codec by Radius
That's a horrible and ancient codec. Don't use it unless you have a specific requirement to use it.
    > Microsoft DV AVI with a different compressor such as DV NTSC or DV PAL?
Just about anything is better than Cinepak or Indeo 3.2 -- but the exact compressor/settings you choose usually depends on your sourcess and your intentions. What is this file going to be used for? What is your target platform? Do you live in North America or Japan (NTSC) or somewhere else (PAL)?

  • I cannot encode .flv files from CS4 using AME

I’m having a problem encoding .flv files from Adobe Media Encoder CS4. All the jobs in the encoder encode for a period of time then stop about a ¼ of the way through the file.
I am encoding from a Matrox preset project at 1280x720p 59.94fps. Some clips have a luma corrector effect on them. After rendering, some clips will come up completely black on the timeline so I have decided to leave them unrendered. I don’t know if that is related to why I cannot encode a .flv file or not.
The settings I’m using for the .flv are:
    .flv file, 720p, CBR, 3000kbps.
What’s strange is that I have encoded other .flv files from these same timelines but all have been smaller in screen resolution. That is the only difference. I can also encode .flv files from other projects without issue.
I don’t know why this is not working?  Who can Help?!!!

OK, so if you do a quick SAVE AS to a new project, and remove the luma corrector, can you encode all the way through?
I have no experience with Matrox so I won't "go there".

  • Outlook 2010 Problem opening shared mailbox "the set of folders cannot be opened. Microsoft Exchange is not available"

Hi, I have a number of mailboxes configured for sharing.
For those users who have full access rights (given via EMC) the mailboxes automatically appear in Outlook 2010.
However for one of those mailboxes the users recieve the following error when they try to access it:
"The Set of Folders cannot be opened. Microsoft Exchange is not available. Either there are network problems or the Exchange server is down for maintenance."
Meanwhile the users' primary mailboxes continue to work as normal, as do the other mailboxes that have been shared with them.
The output of get-mailboxpermissions for the problematic mailbox is the same as the output for a full working one.
If I add the mailbox to my account (as though I was using Outlook 2003) it allows me access, however I then have the situation of having the mailbox listed twice, one working the other not.
How do I get this mailbox to behave as expected?
