Cannot enter a decimal cmyk value in photoshop? Is rounding it up acurate?

I know it's a stupid question but in illustrator I can add in a decimal....in photoshop I am told that I cannot.
Why is this?
Thanks in advance.

In CS4, Illy will show decimals, Indesign and Photoshop will round up and not show the post-decimal values.
In Photoshop (CMYK mode), you can have more than one step within 1% (according to info panel) presumably 100% divided evenly into 255 steps and I can see 3 distinct levels between 0 and 1% dot (per channel).
These will often be a problem if you let them sneak in unexpectedly, so best to round off the .xx figures in Illustrator. I don't know why Illustrator has had this option, seems a bit pointless to me and introduces a significant risk for printers and designers for no real gain.
That's not to say there is no need for all 255 steps, I am not saying that, only that they are dangerous as 'selectable' values and should only be there for use in smooth blends and feathers etc.
I presume this is why Photoshop doesn't let you pick on a % slider, it would jump along unevenly 0 then .392 .784 etc whereas the rgb slider can happily count from 0 to 255. The available tones are based on each channel being 255 steps in 8 bit per channel files.

  • CMYK values for black

I know 100% K is not the blackest black, and I know that there are color values that will get me the blackest black, I just misplaced my cheat sheet, and can't remember what they were. I thought sure I could find them through some forum searches, but no luck for the cmyk values.
    thanks for your input

Try opening a CMYK Photoshop file with the colour settings as you want them (gloss, newsprint, wotever). Click on the little squares at bottom left of the Foreground/Background sample at the bottom of the Toolbox so that they become black and white. With Info open, read off the CMYK values that Photoshop gives you for black. That way you'll get a pretty good dense black that suits the type of printing you're dealing with.
It's all a question of total ink density and how much undercover removal you want. And that all depends on the sort of paper you're going to be printing on.
Be careful though, if you want to put white lettering on a CMYK black area. If the lettering is small, you will probably need to make a non-overprinting 100%K trap so that the CMYK colours don't flood into the white letters.

  • I'm using photoshop elements 2.0 and window vista.  when i want to crop i cannot enter any values in

I'm using photoshop elements 2.0 and window vista.  when i want to crop i cannot enter any values in the width and height boxes.  the cursor won't enter.  same thing with resolution.  what did i do?  what's wrong?

The first thing you might try is resetting the Crop Tool by right clicking on the crop icon in the tool options bar and choosing Reset Tool.
If that doesn't work then the next thing is to reset the photoshop elements 2 settings file by holding down
the Shift+Ctrl+Alt keys just after clicking or double clicking on the pse 2 shortcut.
Keep holding the keys until a dialog appears ask if you want to delete the photoshop elements settings file
and click yes in the dialog.

  • CMYK values change between FH and Photoshop

    Hi,
I'm trying to recreate a logo in FreeHand MX11 from one done
in Photoshop CS2 that's composed of PMS colors. Unfortunately, the
original artist didn't leave notes as to which PMS colors she used,
but when I sample a color in P'shop, I get a PMS color (286 PC
C100/M66/Y0/K2) that's a near match. Trouble is, when I assign that
same color in FreeHand, even though the color has the same CMYK
values, it looks much darker and not the same color at all. When I
copy and paste the image from FH into Photoshop and sample it, its
    values change to C100/M86/Y23/K9.
I'm confused, how can both apps have so much variation in
displaying PMS colors? Is there a color management setting I need
    to fix?
    Thanks for any assistance,
    Chris

    >
    > What are your color management settings is FH? Are you
on a PC or a Mac? Are
    > you using ColorSync?
The reason is most likely color management in FreeHand. Note
that there is a checkbox 'Color manage spot colors' in
Preferences/Colors. It should be checked, of course. Photoshop and
FreeHand use slightly different RGB color values for Pantone Spot
colors. The difference is very small, though.
Don't rely on screen color but check the colors from Patone
booklet because that's what the printer will do. Unlike cmyk colors
onscreen color management is not that crucial, although it is much
nicer to work if is set just right.
Also note that not single Pantone Spot color can be reprouced
with cmyk colors. Espeicially greens, orages and violets will
change significantly. Pantone Spot to CMYK chart is a very useful
tool, included in the 'Panton Survival Kit'.

  • CMYK values differ from PhotoShop

Why are the CMYK values for a given RGB color differ in kuler

    referencing?
note: I am using the default North America General Purpose 2
settings in PhotoShop CS3, which references sRGB IEC61966-2.1 and
    U.S. Web Coated (SWOP) v2.

  • Determine closest PMS color from CMYK values?

In Illustrator CS3 is there a way to determine CMYK values to the closest PMS color? I know how to do it in Photoshop but cannot find a solution in Illy Forums, Illy Help, or from any intelligent person I might happen to know.
    Thanks to anyone!

I use un script to know what PMS values is closet to a certain CMYK,
on the other way, what CMYK is close to certain PMS, just doble click on the PMS on the swatches palete and convert it to CMYK process..
A quick way to do it, may be there is some more technical method out there..
If you wish, here you can download the script wich is not mine, dont remember the author...sorry.

  • Anyone else having trouble opening CMYK PDFs from Photoshop CC with JPEG 'high' compression?

(Cross-post from the Photoshop forum, where I was asked to post in the Acrobat forum: http://forums.adobe.com/message/5553829 )
When I save a PDF file in Photoshop CC in CMYK color with JPEG compression (quality = high), it will save without any errors. However, when I open the file in Acrobat (11.0.3), I get an "Out of Memory" pop up error. I press Ok, and the document is just displayed as a blank white image.
I'm using Win7 64-bit, Photoshop CC 64-bit. Plenty of memory (24GB) and allocated RAM in preferences, and I've done some troubleshooting that leads me to believe the error is not due to system memory, but rather a specific bug in the software. I have Photoshop CS6 on the same machine, and if I open the PSD, save as PDF with the above settings, everything is fine when I open it using Acrobat. This seems to just be for Photoshop CC, not CS6.
Here is the troubleshooting I've done so far:
PDF format, RGB color, any other settings --> Acrobat can open the file.
PDF format, CMYK, no compression --> Acrobat can open the file.
PDF format, CMYK, JPEG compression [medium] --> Acrobat can open the file.
PDF format, CMYK, JPEG compression [high] --> Acrobat can NOT open the file because it encounters the "out of memory" error.
PDF format, CMYK, JPEG compression [maximum] --> Acrobat can open the file.
This is silly. I don't get it. Can anyone else confirm this problem for me?
    Updated:
Like you said, there isn't enough information to rule out an issue with Photoshop CC, as the same action using Photoshop CS6 results in a usable file.
New information (while making files for uploading):
The error only occurs with CMYK files of larger dimensions. On a 500x500px image, Acrobat throws out "A drawing error has occured". a 2500x2500px image runs into the "Out of memory" error. In either case, Acrobat cannot successfully open the file generated by Photoshop CC, while it can if it was made using Photoshop CS6.

The major changes for the others within the JPegs was the number of pixels (133X133) and the size (1.4inX1.4in). There is also a reduction in the number of colors.
Just for information, I opened the big JPeg in Acrobat (9.5.5) and it opened fine. However, it looks like the color space was changed as shown below:
Even if I change the input to use CMYK and not RGB, it looks like it gets converted to RGB. I haven't spent time to figure out the preflight analysis properly, but at least this may give you some info back.

  • Error "You cannot enter a partner function for output NEU"

    Hi Experts,
I'm having these error "You cannot enter a partner function for output NEU" (message VN041) when I tried to assign a partner function (e.g OA)  in the conditions records for application "EV" (Purchase outline agreement). The system do not allow me to do this for any doc type (LP, LPA, MK, OA, etc). I'm using t-code NACE or MN08.
I want to assign partner for key combination "Document Type". The conditions is already there but with no value, so I want to assign partner function "OA" or "VR".
I already check all the configuration and looks fine. For example, define possible partner functions for output type "NEU" for application "EV" (Purc outline agree).
Hope you can help me to find the problem.
    Thanks,
    Mairo.

I have the error in NACE or using tcode MN08.
As soon I executed those transaction the system shows the condition records created for varios Doc Type (e.g LP, LPA, MK, etc) but with no partner function assigned. For example:
    Doc. Type /  Name                     /             Funct  /   Partner     /            Medium  /  Date/time  /   Language
    LP        /       Scheduling Agreement     /  blank  / blank  /                                          2      /          3   /              EN
    LPA      /      Scheduling Agreement                              / blank    / blank   /                1        /       3         /        EN
For example, I try to assign function "OA" for Doc. Type "LP", choose value from quickpick. Then when I press enter, the system give me the error "You cannot enter a partner function for output NEU", message no. VN041. Do not allow me to continue, so I have to leave this field blank, with no change.

  • Form Problem  - Cannot enter decimals into a number column through portal?

Has anyone come accross this problem? Is it a bug? Can anyone offer any advice? It works using toad to enter data

    Hi
I tried the same with the default form created from the wizard based on the table SCOTT.EMP .
It contains the field SAL with datatype NUMBER(7,2).
I was able to enter the decimal values and it worked perfectly fine.
Did you specify the precision and scale of the number datatype properly ?
    NUMBER(precision,scale)
precision - the total number of digits
scale - number of digits to the right of the decimal point.
    Thanks

  • Why does Illustrator automatically change RGB and CMYK values

Hi, I am struggling to understand why Illustrator is changing the values inside the RGB and CMYK boxes. I am also not sure of the exact relationship between these values. Essentially, it appears that if you set the Document Color Mode to RGB, it leaves the RGB values that you type in alone. If you set the Document Color Mode to CMYK, it leaves the CMYK values alone.
But as soon as you change the Color Mode, it automatically modifies the values. So if you were in RGB mode and you set some RGB values, it changes those RGB values when you switch to CMYK mode. And vice versa.
I had thought that the CMYK palette was a subset of the RGB palette. It would make sense to me if it did this when I switched from RGB to CMYK mode, but it doesn't make sense to me why it does this when I switch from CMYK to RGB mode.
The other thing I am confused about is the relationship of the values in the RGB boxes to the values in the CMYK boxes. I would have thought that the relationship between them would be static. Actually, it is not. When I am in CMYK mode and I enter a CMYK value of 90 16 0 0, the RGB values become 0 158 222. But when I switch over to RGB mode, the RGB values of 0 158 222 result in CMYK values of 75 23 0 0.
    Very confusing.
Thanks in advance if you can explain this behavior!
    Best Regards,
    Z.

    Color management.
An Ai document can be either RGB or CMYK. The colors follow the document color mode and thus are converted immediately if they don't match.
But as soon as you change the Color Mode, it automatically modifies the values. So if you were in RGB mode and you set some RGB values, it changes those RGB values when you switch to CMYK mode. And vice versa.
    Same reason.
I had thought that the CMYK palette was a subset of the RGB palette. It would make sense to me if it did this when I switched from RGB to CMYK mode, but it doesn't make sense to me why it does this when I switch from CMYK to RGB mode.
It's not. CMYK color spaces (there are more than just one) are normally smaller than RGB color spaces, but they aren't a "subset".
When Illustrator converts the colors, it uses color management: the profiles you set up and the methods you set up. After converting it forgets the color that used to be. When converting "back", it uses color management again.
When you convert an very bright RGB color, it be out of the CMYK gamut. So it get's converted to the closest possbile CMYK color (which might still be far away from the original color. But it's not possible to convert it "back" to the bright one unless you just revert the conversion (by Cmd/Ctrl + Z).

  • Cannot enter new delivery costs

    Hi All,
I am trying to enter new delivery cost after good receipt, but system throwing error You cannot enter new delivery costs Error No. V1631. To over come this I have reverse GR document completly, but still I am not able to add new delivery cost.
    Kindly help me...........

When you get the error in the PO , double click on it , the explanation is given there.  It says that Adding/changing the condition type/ value would lead to possible  differences In the GR IR Clearing account  .
    I
    check note : 456691
Can I change conditions after the GR/IR has taken place? Is it still possible to carry out a new price determination process at this stage?
    Answer:
You can no longer change the delivery costs after the GR has been posted.
If you have implemented Note 549408, you cannot change conditions that have the category "B" ("Delivery costs") after an invoice has been posted or parked either.
If you change data in the PO and this data usually triggers a new price determination process of the type "B" or "C", the system does not execute this automatic price determination if a GR or an IR has already been posted.
For further information, see Note 457511, question 3.

  • V1 631 - You cannot enter new delivery costs

Recently we upgraded from 4.6C to ERP 2005 ECC 6.0.Since the upgrade, we have noticed an issue in ME22N. Once you perform invoice verification on a purchasing document, you can not add any new conditions or change any existing conditions. You get message V1631 - You cannot enter new delivery costs. The purchasing document has not had Goods Receipt done on it, only Invoice Receipt. I even tried reversing the Invoice Receipt and then adding/changing conditions, and it still gives me the message noted above. Please advise.

    Dear Jamie,
below is the sap explaination to your question:
Is it possible to change or add delivery costs in the purchase order after a goods receipt has been executed?
    Answer:
No, this should not be possible. The system generates error message V1631 'You cannot enter new delivery costs' (V1631). Important: If your system does not behave in the manner described, this is an error that can be corrected using Notes 187694 and 196884. This affects the earlier Support Packages of Release 31I, 40B, 45B and 46B (you will find more detailed information in the two notes mentioned).
For the changeability of delivery costs after an invoice receipt, see Note 651798 and Note 720191, or Note 549408.
The existence of held delivery cost invoice documents must be checked manually and has to be considered.
Delivery costs must not be entered again or changed if all follow-on documents were cancelled for the purchase order item, unless there were no delivery costs for the posted documents. Otherwise there is no guarantee that continued processing will run without errors.
If you change the Customizing for existing delivery costs, the system does not read this either in a purchase order with an existing goods receipt. The new Customizing settings only take effect when you create a new purchase order.
Of course, the condition values of time-dependent conditions can still be changed even after a goods receipt has occurred.
    Please note:
The restrictions on changing delivery costs as described above have only been developed over time. This is not due to changed functions, rather previously we did not know that making changes could sometimes lead to subsequent irreparable errors.
In particular, when you post invoices for delivery costs, the logic considers delivery costs that have already been posted (even if they have since been cancelled) AND the data for delivery costs from the database (as displayed in the purchase order). During processing, you have no way of knowing if this information is no longer compatible, nor any way to discover the cause, and this leads to incorrect processing.
You should therefore proceed as follows:
If delivery costs were entered incorrectly, you must cancel all related purchase order items (reverse all documents) and enter a new purchase order item with the correct delivery costs. Otherwise, there is no guarantee that further processing will be correct.
If your delivery costs are changed regularly, you should use master conditions.
    Additional note:
If you have manually changed or maintained conditions in the purchase order, under certain Customizing settings when you run a new price determination after a goods receipt, a condition may be determined twice. For more information, see Note 456691.
    Regards
    Rajesh
