Cannot enter BIOS setup

I bought a new msi amd motherboard it cannot go into cmos BIOS setup it just says entering setup and it doesnt go any further, I have the pc down to barebones memory cpu and msi board.
I have reset bios CMOS with jumper and battery out several times same problem.
Will flashing the bios fix this problem or could it be that I found the memory is 1.65 volt and should of been 1.5 volt thought everything was recognized and working until windows7 said it completed its installation.
Edited title, correct terminology is BIOS setup not CMOS.

I have the same issue. After having pressed the Del key during booting up -  the computer hangs with "Entering Setup" shown in the bottom left of the screen.
* The problem was orignaly found with the 1.0 version of the Bios but remains after upgrading to 1.5. With both versions the Bios was cleared with by switching the JBAT connector.
* Memcheck86 has been executed and reports no error.
* Attempts have been made with the SSD and BR drives detached with no joy
Setup is as follows:
1     MSI E350IA-E45, AMD E-350
                       Mini-ITX, Hudson M1, DDR3, 1xPCIe(2.0)x16, SATA 6Gb/s, USB 3.0, VGA,

The NOVO gives me an option to Bios Setup but it just boot me back to Windows 8.1.

    Hello,
I don't have an IdeaPad U310 myself, but I'm wondering if you hold down the F12 key after applying power, does that give you a menu from which you can get to the BIOS?  That worked for me on a IdeaPad U410.

  • Windows 7 Stuck At BIOS Cannot Enter BIOS or Change Boot Media

My laptop has no problem before. Recently I try to install Windows XP. First attempt fail, so I change SATA at BIOS from AHCI to Compatible, success. However the partition that I want to install Windows XP to is not available.
So just to test I choose my Windows 7 partition. Since it want to format the partition, I cancel the installation. After restarting windows, it stuck at bios. I restart again and change SATA to AHCI. Restart, still stuck at bios. This time I cannot enter BIOS, recovery or change boot media. Assuming the boot sector has corrupt, will reseating the cmos battery will fix this  problem. Please help. Thanks in advance.

    hi kiebloom,
Yes, you will need to boot without the HDD to try and access the BIOS again. If you're able to access the BIOS using this method, reload the BIOS defaults by pressing F9 then press F10 to save and exit.
From here, you can try to:
    1. Re-insert the HDD and press the OneKey Recovery button to reinstall Windows 7
    2. Create a recovery disc for Windows 7, format the HDD and downgrade to Windows XP
    3. Dual-boot Windows 7 and Windows XP (see this guide)
    Best regards,

  • HP Pavilion DV6-3029tx Cannot Access BIOS Setup

Hello there, I have used this laptop for nearly two years, if I remember correctly.
Basically, the problem is that I want to disable Function key, but I cannot access BIOS setup.
I have tried every combination of keys at start-up screen, from ESC to F10, none of them worked.
So I thought maybe an BIOS update can solve the problem (My current version is F.07), I downloaded firmware from HP support site and run it, know what, the screen flashed and system get restarted, but nothing had changed, I didn't get even an error message.
The problem is actually found by a HP supporter when I send my laptop for cleaning last year, he didn't manage to fix it at the time and problem became devastating for me lately because certain software I am using rely heavily on function keys. The only things "big" I have ever done to my laptop were updating windows 7 Home to Ultimate (32-bit) and partition, I am not sure if they were the reason.
The following is InsydeFlash log, I searched the error code and find somebody with similar problem here: http://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Notebook-Operating-Systems-and/Pavillion-DV6-3125er-BIOS-UPDATE-Error/t...

  • Satellite C660-2C3: Cannot enter BIOS

    Hello,
I enabled the Quick Boot Function which skips the Logos and only boots from HDD, but now I need to install a 32bit Windows for School, but I can't enter or reset the Bios.
I tried every button combination I can think of.
Is there any way to remove this feature again without taking it apart?
The existing Windows is not the Original one, so no toshiba software is installed.
    Thanks for help.

  • 990FXA-GD80 V2 - can't enter BIOS setup

This board has mostly been working fine. I have a FX-8150 in it, and I switched out the fan for a Coolermaster. Now, it boots, but when I try to enter BIOS setup, it hangs on "Starting setup..." (or something like that) at the bottom of the screen.
I have tried clearing the CMOS (including unplugging) a couple times. Not sure what else to try...

Quote from: flobelix on 21-June-13, 03:30:41
Try with the board outside case on a non conductive surface and basic setup (one mem stick, cpu/cooler, psu, vga). Remove all drives and USB devices.
That worked. Thank you. I am able to enter the BIOS setup. But will it still work in the case?
EDIT: I did some searching and this is probably a case shorting. I noticed that one of the brass standoffs had come loose and was still attached to the screw when I took it out. I'm guessing that's what caused the short. I'll be more careful with the standoffs and see if that helps. Thanks for your help.

  • Fn Key is disabled on boot - Cannot enter bios

    Hi there,
I'm running an x240 series machine running Windows 8.1 pro. I need to enter bios. I have tried butting it from PC settings, but there is no uefi option or any menu or boot menu option.
Hence, the only option was to enter via the traditional route. However, the moment I restart the machine, the fn key green light immediately lights up, effectively locking the button. When I interrupt the normal startup process via the "enter" key, I cannot enter bios via the fn + 1 key since the fn key is disabled or locked.
Is there a reason or a solution to enable the fn key?
Update: Felt like a complete moron. The F1 label was so small on the keyboard that I missed it. Just press the mute option. You will see a tiny F1 label on it.

There is also a way to access UEFI BIOS through Windows 8.1, though it's buried pretty deep.
    Go to >PC Settings
    >Update and Recovery (it's at the very bottom)
    >Recovery (again, at the bottom. the next step shuts down you Windows session, so save your work)
       Click 'Restart now'
the OS shuts down and then displays some 'metro style' options.
       Click 'Troubleshoot'
    then     'Advanced options'
    then     'UEFI Firmware Settings'
    then     'Restart'
then you hopefully will be presented with the options that you are looking for. (works on anything running UEFI Windows 8.1)
    Have fun!

Problem is that I cant get into the bios setup. Pressing F2 at startup just makes the system hang. Anyone any ideas.

What kind of PSU are you using?  List amperage(s) on the +12V-rail(s) also.
Have you tried clearing CMOS? (remove main power plug from PSU first)
When did this problem first appear?
i'm using ATX power supply 500W,  I'm not familiar with amperage stuff so i'll just write the list in the PSU

  • Portege Z30 - unable to enter bios setup

    Hi,
I am unable to enter the BIOS setup upon boot. Pressing F2 allows me to enter both master and HDD/SDD password (validation confirmed), but the screen freezes at the "Toshiba Setup Utility" graphics without any progress.
This problem started to appear quite suddenly, I did enter the BIOS setup several times before without any issue. The only change that happened as far as I know is a failed suspend/resume event.
My suspicion is that the laptop is now in the hi-speed boot regime. Can anyone confirm that? Is there any way to force it to normal boot at the boot time? I am running Linux so I cannot use the Windows utilities from Toshiba.

    > I am running Linux so I cannot use the Windows utilities from Toshiba.
Thats bad :( within the Toshiba HW Setup you would find a setting to change the boot speed option.
    > My suspicion is that the laptop is now in the hi-speed boot regime. Can anyone confirm that?
Hmm in my opinion if boot speed would be set to fast, you would not be able to press F2 and to input the BIOS password.
However, in other cases if boot mode was set to fast, you could enter the BIOS pressing firstly INS button and then F2 button
    Try it out.

  • K9ND Freeze on entering bios setup screen

    I got a new K9ND mainboard, with 2 X 2210, 2 X 2G DDR 2 667 REG ECC, AcBel 800W Power Supply.
I can startup the PC and pass the ram test.
And i pass the F2 key waiting to enter the Bios Setup screen.
But the screen hold in the the "Entering Setup..." for long time and with no response.
I have retry many time, Still can't enter the bios.
Anybody can help me? What the problem?

    Just a question.
Have you actually placed both Memory Modules in the Yellow slots that are assigned to CPU-0????
The CPU in CPU socket 1 can stay there. (You do not have to remove it to test for entry into the BIOS).
You also need to let us know the exact version of your BIOS and Date.
Now at this point you should not have any other devices connected to your motherboard.
    No DVD
    No Hard Drives
    No SATA Devices
    No Floppy Drive
    No Mouse (PS2 or USB)
The keyboard would be preferably a PS2 model. (Borrow one from a friend if necessary)
This way we can rule out any BAD USB Configurations in the BIOS.
Once all that is accomplished, power up and enter the BIOS.
Write everything down you can possibly see.
When the display screen comes up, hit ESC key to display the POST data.
Is the memory reading 4193280 kb or 4194304 kb?
Does it mention Dual Channel Mode or Single Channel Mode?
Please let us know and we'll gladly help you get up and running.
