Cannot enter my full name in mail account preferences

iMac 24-inch, Early 2008, OS 10.8.2: When I send email from my icloud email account, some recipients report seeing only my email address in the from line at the top of the email without my real name. I opened Mail preferences and the Full Name: box is greyed out and reads "Your Name" instead of my name under the accounts tab. How can I unlock and access this box to enter my real name? BTW, I went to the iCloud website, logged in, and went to the account prefs under the web based iCloud mail prefs. This box was editable and already showed my name. I deleted it and re-entered my full name. When i returned to the Mail app on my iMac, the Your Name box still reads "Full Name" in grey, un-editable. I tried a test email sent to my husband's email and it still reads just my email address without my name at the top. How do I fix this? Thank you in advance.

Go into your icloud preferences and uncheck mail. Give it a minute or so, then check it out.
I tested that after changing my full name on the website. The name updated in my mail.app, but not until I unchecked/rechecked.

Whenever I send an email from my mail app on my MacBook Pro, the person who gets it sees my full email address as opposed to my name. This leads to it being put in spam at times. Ah, after endless searching, this popped up in "More like this" right after I posted:
Settings > Mail, Contacts, Calendar> Select the email account with the issue and go into the Account Info area. In the Name field enter your full name.

When I compose and send a mail, it gets placed in Outbox and I get a prompt stating something like "relating the message is not supported". Even if I compose a newest age, it says the vey same thing. I just cannot send any response through my mail account

You haven't set up the SMTP (outgoing) mail server correctly. You probably didn't enter your user ID and password for the outgoing server. They are needed even though it says "optional".

Changing Last Name on Mail accounts

Recently remarried, and trying to change last name on Mail accounts. I have changed them in Contacts, however seem to have problems in sending mail.
Anyone have an idea of where I need to make all the changes?

Mail apparently can do this, but doesn’t provide support for it in the user interface:

I believe the AppleScript in the second article is for .Mac accounts only. The first article was initially also meant for .Mac accounts only, but I believe that a similar procedure can be used with other account types as well — read the comments for additional info on this.
What I’d probably do is leave the Full Name field blank and the email address alone, though...

I would like to ask if there's a way to display the full name of the Account Owner in a report where the subject area is Opportunity? Currently, the Username (under Owned By User) which displays the full name is equal to the Opportunity Owner.

Currently, I have a report under Opportunity history where the following fields are being shown:
- Account's Country
- Opportunity Owner (Owned By User - gives me the full name)
- Account Name
- Opportunity Name
- Metrics field (Revenue, Volume. etc.)
- Close Date
- some custom fields
The users want to see the Account Owner so I added this field but it's showing the owner's alias. My question is, in using the "Combine with Similar Analysis", can I display all the values retrieved by the Opportunity report and get the value of 'Owned By User' in the Account report?
I have tried combining the two reports but the values are derived from the driving report which is Opportunity. How can I get the value/format of the field in the Account report?

Close out of the mail app. Double tap the home button, find the mail app hold down until you see the red minus sign and hit that. then go back into the mail app and open an email you should now be able to read the full content of the email.

how do I save changes in mail accounts preferences? I add and delete mail accounts but when I close and then reopen mail, my changes are not saved, despite messages within the mail window saying that my changes are saved.

Personal name on mail account

I have recently put my business email through the mail account on my mac, however now the emails are going out with my name on them, beside the email address, I would prefer just the company name is there any way to change this?

It should be using the "Full Name" field in the Mail Account setup. Set that to your Company name.

Hijacked full name in mail

Somebody wrote out an incorrect full name when they addressed an email to me. Basically it was addressed like this: "Ok." <[email protected]> ...I have no idea why they wrote "Ok."
Now, any time I receive an email, Mail has associated this new stupid full name "Ok." with my email address. So the "to" field of all my incoming emails now appears listed as "Ethan (Ok.)" <[email protected]> It's as if Mail thinks there are two people with the same address... one (correctly) named Ethan and the other named "Ok."
This hijacked name is really annoying. I deleted every email which had the wrong full name, I deleted my own address book entry, I deleted the whole list of "previous recipients" in mail, I toggled "use smart addresses" with restarts... nothing works; the hijacked name comes back from the dead.
Where is mail storing this reference to "Ok." ? I must find it and kill it. Please help.

Glad to know. I really didn't know whether that would make a difference. You may want to look at Window > Previous Recipients again.
There are two more things I was going to suggest if Envelope Index hadn't worked, so you may want to try them as well.
One is the Mail cache stored in ~/Library/Caches/Mail (be careful not to confuse it with the ~/Library/Mail folder, and to quit Mail before deleting it).
The other is to re-create the entire Spotlight database, as follows. Open /Applications/Utilities/Terminal, type the following command (you can copy the command here and paste it in Terminal), and press <Return>:
sudo mdutil -E /
The -E option tells Spotlight to delete any already existing index data (so that it's rebuilt from scratch all over again). The '/' at the end means "apply this command to the startup disk".
After entering the previous command in Terminal, you'll be prompted for your administrator password. Just type it blindly (you won't see any feedback of the keystrokes while you type it) and then press <Return>.
For best results, quit Mail and don't play too much with your disk while Spotlight does its job -- i.e. avoid files being created/modified/deleted, mail being downloaded, etc.

Cannot log out of my Yahoo mail account

After finishing with my Yahoo Mail account I cannot log out and return to my Home page (My Yahoo) and therefore I am unable to open other mail accounts. I have to compltely restart my computer to open another Yahoo Mail account. The problem does not apear in IE. Thanks for your help.

Clear the cache and remove cookies only from websites that cause problems.
"Clear the Cache":
*Firefox > Preferences > Advanced > Network > Cached Web Content: "Clear Now"
"Remove Cookies" from sites causing problems:
*Firefox > Preferences > Privacy > "Use custom settings for history" > Cookies: "Show Cookies"

I cannot add or delete a e-mail account in settings on my iPad

I can receive and send messages, but I want to delete e-mail account and add a new one, but it will not let me in settings. It will not let me select the account or add an account.

Try a reset. Press & hold the Power and Home buttons together for 10+ seconds, ignoring the red power-off slider, until you see the Apple logo.
Barring any success after a reset, then I suggest that you delete and add the email accounts that you want in the mail app that you use on your computer and then sync those email accounts to your iPad. After attaching your iPad to the computer, in iTunes on the Info tab go to the bottom and in the advanced section check the box to replace the email accounts on the iPad with those on the computer.

HT204053 This just started. I cannot log on to my iCloud mail account and .me mail does not work.

My two .me mail boxes just stopped working and I cannot sign in to my iCloud Mail.

Seems there's been an issue for a couple of hours. If they fix it soon, I don't think a several-hour outage is the type of thing that affects AAPL. I've got my fingers crossed they'll fix it soon.
