Cannot Erase Address History.  Tried Many things..

I recently purchased this laptop from a a friend. And I have gone through the trouble of clearing Safari's cache, as well as the history. I have even completly reset safari in the Safari Menu bar.
What i am trying to do, is that when I start spelling a word/website in the address bar (not the google search)) that it only starts looking/predicting websites that I have gone too in the past.
Example, just by the initial letter "D" in the address bar, I have specifici http:// address for Disney. I don't want that to be there, I only want MY searches in the past to be there. HELP?

Welcome to Apple Discussions
To remove the unwanted addresses you would need to clear all information, which includes addresses you may want to retain. This includes moving to the trash from your regular User Library
- the Safari folder, which deletes your History, Bookmarks, and download folders.
- the com.apple.safari.plist file found in the Preferences folder
- cookies.plist found in your Cookies folder
- Safari folder found in the Caches folder
When you restart Safari, the above will be automatically created, essentially starting over. You would need to reset your Safari preferences to any custom setting, plus Spelling in the Edit menu, and icons, status bar, etc. in the View menu.
Regardless of the above, if you want to stop the auto URL listing, start your address entry with a space from the space bar. Then, no address prompt will appear.

Did you restore a backup after you restored to factory settings? If you restored a backup, you should try restoring as new, but if hope that support already told you this.
Have you tried using another WiFi networK? Do you have a computer running iTunes? If so, can you download apps or music on the computer?

Have you failed to regularly backup the device to iTunes or iCloud?  If so, the data is gone.
If there are backups, restore the most current one from prior to the data disappearing.

  • IPhone cannot sync address book, "too many flushes" in console

Hello, ran into this recently and its driving me nuts. I've restored the phone twice, without restoring a backup, setting it up as a new phone each time.
It'll sync everything else fine but not this. I have reset the sync history in isync, deleted my address book completely (I have a backup of it) yet iTunes still shows the old groups under the info tab. I've double checked that I am the owner on the permissions page of the mail/ical/itunes/etc.... folders in %users/Library. Repaired permissions. I'm running out of things to check.
Whenever I try to sync this is the information that can be found in the Console. I've deleted preferences, i'm almost ready to completely blow itunes away and re-import/re-rate my itunes library from scratch!

I also cannot sync anything from the Info tab, contacts, calendars, can't replace the data either. If I enable iCal syncing it just hangs on the sync and doesn't error out. it'll stay syncing contacts for over 12 hours so far with no change.

Now isn't this interesting. I decided on a whim to have console open when I reset the sync preferences. And this is what it reported. Definitely some permissions errors. I've already run

After running sudo chown -R rr152510 SyncServices/ from terminal I received the same errors. So either its not following through the sub-directories and changing the owner, or its something else. Gonna try it from the root user, though sudo should have given me permissions to do anything I wanted.

i have had a ipod for 4 years and had no problem connecting to itunes before.
at first my computer would not find the iphone so i looked up tips from apple and other internet sources ... after deleting temp files my computer picked up my iphone but itunes didnt... i kept getting a pop up when going on to itunes saying "this iphone cannot be used because the required software is not installed. Run the itunes installer to remove itunes, then install itunes again.
So i did i did this serveral times and the pop still keeps coming up and everytime i reinstall itunes i have to delete temp files for my computer to pick my iphone up. i contacted apple and an adviser sent me a link to follow to delete itunes and other in a order which i did several times and still not worked.

    Thank you

Try this article if you haven't already
This is the only possibility that came to my mind when reading about your issue:
"If an iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch is not recognized in iTunes on Windows, the Apple Mobile Device Service (AMDS) may need to be restarted"

  • Tried many things and my iTunes still will not open

I recently did a full restore on my computer, and when I tried to open up my itunes through the shortcut and going through "start, all programs, itunes" I received an error message saying "iTunes has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvience"
Now I have tried everything possible that i could think of to fix this problem software listed on the online manual, and the advice with the forum.
-I have done a partial restore on the computer,
-I have uninstalled and reinstalled the software about 15-20 times, but when I believe that iTunes is completely removed from the system....it seems to still be there
-I have turned off my virus protection.
-I have deleted files one by one and reinstalled the system.
-I switched USB ports, "my computer" recognizes that I have my ipod connected but not the iTunes, and also it pulls up "autoplay" and when i looked into the file for music it saying that I have a few songs in system but it doesn't show up on the actually ipod
-I even downloaded the update off the internet and it STILL will not even open the program. Not to mention that when i plugged my ipod into the system it erased all of my music and contact files.
I'm so lost and confused and i don't know what else to do...please help me. Thanks

    hi Meika!
Itunes has encountered a problem and needs to close
the first thing that i check for when people report getting that message when they try to launch their itunes is a broken QuickTime.
try to open your QuickTime. does it launch properly, or do you get an error message?
if you get an error message, the first thing we'll try is a careful standalone QT 7.0.4 reinstall.
download and save a copy of the QT 7.0.4 standalone installer to your hard drive. (we'll run the install from there rather than online.) switch off antivirus and antispyware applications prior to the install.
    Quicktime 7.0.4 Standalone Installer
if that install goes through okay, does your itunes launch properly again?
(if you get an error message on the QT standalone reinstall, let us know what it says. include error message numbers if you're getting any.)

  • IWeb will NOT open domain package, tried many things.

I hope someone can help me. I searched the forum several times and went through all six pages of results looking for an answer. I did try everything listed in the few posts that did seem related, as well as a lot of those tips in combination with others, but nothing has helped.
Problem: After an AppleStore hard drive replacement, I copied things over from my Time Machine backup, as well as a backup of the more important things on another external drive. I copied things very peacemeal, basically starting from scratch for a few weeks to make sure the problem I was having was gone. (It's not, but that's a story for another day). When it came time to copy over my domain file and open it, it wouldn't open with iWeb. That is to say, doubleclicking it would open iWeb, but even watching activity monitor like a hawk, I couldn't see that it was doing anything.
Here is what I HAVE tried:
1 - deleted current domain file, and copied old one in it's place. No change.
2 - emptied the folder usually used to hold the domain, opened iWeb to create a new one. Close iWeb, copy domain to desktop, then copy the old one in it's place. No change.
3 - delete preferences and caches for iWeb, then repeat step 2. No change.
4 - delete preferences and caches for iWeb, then delete any combination of the following from the domain package: .plist files, domainstate.archive file, index.xml file. I tried this step about six times, with a different combination of these files each time, finishing with a repeat of step 2, and testing it. The only combinations that had any change were leaving only the index.xml file in the package, which got me about a second-long loading bar, then nothing, and leaving both the index.xml and the domainstate.archive in the package, which got iWeb to peak around 90-110% CPU (on activity monitor), flash the app not responding message a few times, then about 10 seconds later, it started idling again, nothing having opened.
Each time I've tried both opening iWeb first, and then actually doubleclicking the domain package. No difference between them. Then I copied the iWeb app from the time machine backup into my documents folder, and manually tried to open the domain package, with .plists missing, with that copy of iWeb. No change there either.
Both copies of iWeb, the one that last saved to the domain, and the one I'm trying to open it with, are the same version. I don't even been an OS update since it was last saved; I'm pretty sure I was on 10.6.4 then too.
I'm a little hung on what to do next. There isn't much in the domain package that could be causing issues except for the ones I tried copying out; everything else is just pretty standard file types.
That said, I'm not sure what could be causing the issue on the iWeb end, since I not only deleted the preferences and caches, but also tried a whole different application file.
I am planning to do a clean install on this computer, yet again, and start from scratch in hopes I can pinpoint what is causing my (unrelated to this issue) problem, for the Apple tech guys.
Should I just do another Time Machine backup with this new image, as well as keeping the old one, and then try to copy it over again when I've re-installed? I was hoping not to have to do it for another few weeks, because I'll need another external, since this one is out of space, but I also need to be able to edit this site!
Any help anyone has, even it's just a hunch of a suggestion, would be fantastic, and very appreciated. At this point, I'll try anything that won't damage any of my data, no matter how far-fetched.
    Thanks!

It sounds as if the problems, or the symptoms at least, are the same. When I double click the domain file, iWeb opens (with the open/welcome/tutorial screen if I've just deleted preference and cache files), and I'll get the menu bar, but nothing else. With the right combination of files removed from the domain package (see my previous posts for that), I can coax a loading bar out of it, but it "loads" in the normal few seconds, and nothing displays. Nada. Menu bar has iWeb, but almost all of the items in any drop down menu are greyed out, all the important ones I checked for anyway, and you can see either the desktop or finder window, or whatever other application that was open before you clicked the domain file.
I'm not sure I included this in my last post, but I did try just simply disabling MobileMe, but without any luck. I never really thought it would work, but figured it could never hurt to try.
The disk utility found a few permissions problems, but none were related to iWeb, they all actually seemed to stem from one thing. I did repair, but no improvement. I'm hoping to have some time this weekend to try some different things to see if I can get it to open. I'll keep a detailed list of what seemed to help, what didn't, and if I'm lucky, what solved it. Short of that, free time allowing, I plan to do a clean install I need to do for another reason, on Sunday. Unfortunately that means you guys won't get any details as to what would have solved it short of something drastic like that (hopefully that will solve it...) but I've got deadlines approaching, not only for that, but for the initial reason for the clean install.
I will try everything I can think of, and anything anyone else can think of, and will volunteer to me. I'm going to move enough files around this evening and tomorrow on my externals to do a full time machine backup, plus second backup of the more important files, so anything you want to suggest, I'll be a testing ground, so others with the issue hopefully won't have to resort to the clean install. As re-installing iWeb had no effect, I'm going to assume, with my limited knowledge in this area, that problem stems from a shared file or the domain package itself. Hopefully not the latter; it's all I've got.
Anyway, if anyone has any suggestions of even something to look for that might serve to flag my attention to investigate further, I'd appreciate it, so we can get a solid plan of attack for others.
Thanks for your help so far, everyone!

  • How to I get menubar to display submenus? I have tried many things

I have cut and pasted old menubars that worked. I have downloaded Sry again and uploaded hundred menubar changes, but not much happens and I never get the submenus.
I am redesigning a webpage at www.vienergy.org (The Virgin island Energy Office)
My sample of the new design that I can't get to work can be reached by clicking on the BuIlding page at that site.
    my email is [email protected]
I have spent many hours on this and would appreciate any help. I am sure it is something dumb that a nonprofessional like me does not see.

Don, I found a few errors, but was not able to reconstruct the menu to the point of getting it to work. There is some other CSS overriding your SpryMenuBarHorizontal2.css file.
But, that said, I did try out some changes:

A more major difficulty was that in the head of the page, there were no fewer than 4 links to various SpryMenuBarHorizontal.css files (with various names) and the Javascript in the foot of the page, added by the insert spry menubar, did not call out the most recent menubar variable. So I guess it's possible that the wrong javascript file was being called, too!
I recommend that you start a new page from scratch (maybe in a new site), link carefully, and insert the Spry Menu Bar and its various auxiliary files, save, see if it works with no changes to it, and slowly and carefully change the css file.
It will be much easier than trying to 'unbend the rusty nails' in order to use them again.

  • Mac 2013 won't boot up tried many things

gray screen with Logan and spinning wheel. It boots into safe mode. I ran disk utility nothing found. Nothing connected to laptop. Tried reinstall software and nothing. Looked at many posts on here and tried multiple suggestions nothing works.

If it boots into safe mode, that indicates a problem with third party software.  Delete all third party applications and reinstall them systematically until you identify the culprit.
    Ciao.

  • I bought Photoshop Elements 12 but cannot boot the Editor - tried many attempts to register etc

I bought a disk version of Photoshop Elements 12. I installed it and can access the Organizer. But when I try to get the Editor to load I get asked to register. But after registering I get asked to buy the product - which I have already done. There is no help or guidance. I have used Photoshop for years and never had a problem with the earlier versions. Am very frustrated and disgusted with this.

    Thanks Jeff!
I am using Windows 8. And yes I did try re-installing it. I also tried the help line - useless - I re-registered the product several times - it does not recognize the serial number half the time and never comes up on screen. I had been using earlier versions of Photoshop for many years and never had this trouble. It is ridiculous to purchase a more advanced version and then have to register and then that does not work and you have a dud product. Having now read other people's similar problems, Adobe seems to have shot itself in the head with the new version. They have turned into a uselessly annoying product provider.

  • How do I stop Firefox from opening the Getting Started page - tried many things already!

Each time I start Firefox it does two things:
1 - It checks plugin compatibility.
2 - It opens the Getting Started Page.
I have just installed the latest 8.0.1. version.
    I run on Windows7 Ultimate.
Have not used Firefox for a year due to this with previous version doing the same.
Have tried all support recommendations: closing tabs, saving etc.
Surprised to see no one else with these issues and no support?
    Thanks
    Rob

  • Garageband doesn't open .. I have tried many things

Since last week Garageband is giving me headeches. First gave me the Midi conflict error, then started to close when selecting the "new podcast episode". then I connect an M Audio card Fast track pro and started to record with some errors. Then I plugged I mic (Studio Project) and it recrded with an obnoxious feedback (one high pitched, the other like rock fallings). At that point I disabled the sound card but in the reinstall of the driver garage band rescaned the machine for the card. At that point the software didn't respond. I reinstalled (twice) the software from the Install disc, and GB started to load but stalled in the blue bar. I installed the upgrade, and the program bounces once in the dock and then freezes. I tried the system disk repair already... I don't know what to do. I'm feelin like wheel chair PC in the latest APple TV spot.

Ah, I missed your post about Blackfoot, I must have been typing/posting at the same time as you. Great band, and yes, long live Southern Rock.
    Now, on to your question...
We've narrowed it down somewhat, but it's still guesswork.. A couple of things come to mind:
If you have any movies in your movies folder, try moving them to another folder somewhere else (not within the Movies folder). You might also try searching your Home directory for ".component". It's doubtful, they're usually installed at the root level, but if any turn up within your home directory you should try moving them to another folder.
After all this it never hurts to run a Repair Permissions again (it can solve some of the oddest problems.).

  • When I try exporting my movie it says, "The project could not be prepared for publishing because an error occurred. (Error in user parameter list)" I've tried many things including taking out special characters in the title.

    Please Help!
