Cannot expand distribution list if message moderation is enabled

Hi all,
Trying to find a solution to resolve a problem(or it is a bug?) in Exchange 2010 with Outlook 2010.
Users in the company often expand distribution list. After migration from Exchange 2003 to Exchange 2010, i found that if i enable message moderation on distribution list, they cannot expand the list anymore and Outlook said that unable to expand public
group.
If i remove moderation on the distribution list, they can expand without problem.
Someone have a solution to this?
Thank you very much.

Hi John,
My Exchange 2010 Version: 14.01.0218.013
It's on all DG who has moderation enabled.
No expansion server is set. (I tried to define one but still have the same error message in Outlook).
I dont understand.
The expansion server is a transport level feature, so it should not affect Outlook.
Is Outlook in online or cache mode?
Does it happen with both modes?
Is a manager configured? Does it fail no matter what moderation option is chosen?

What I am referring to is using several individual contacts and putting them into on group...let's say friends.  When I select the Friends group all the contacts listed in the group the message will go to.  Similiar to Outlook distribution list for email.

Our Gwia expanded distribution list, so external users can send a mai to our distributon lists.
That 's what we wanted .

Is there away to block this capability on some distribution lists ? (with internet adressing or ...) not all.

  • Iphone and outlook distribution list

How can I using an IPHONE but using Outlook Exchange for my work email, I cannot access Distribution list are used within the organisation on my IPHONE.

With Exchange 2007, I can see email and phone numbers, but I have no way to pick different address lists.
It is possible to make different Contacts folders in Outlook and copy contacts to these folders. You then have groups on your phone in the contacts section.
Not ideal, but one way to go.

  • "changes to the distribution list membership cannot be saved. you do not have sufficient permission to perform this operation on this object"

Running Exchange 2010/latest updates on Windows 2008 R2 servers.
When I create a new DL that I want someone to manage, they received the following message when trying to add/remove from the DL:
"changes to the distribution list membership cannot be saved.  you do not have sufficient permission to perform this operation on this object"
I have followed everything in "http://msexchangeteam.com/archive/2009/11/18/453251.aspx" with no luck
    Any suggestions?

Piggybacking off of the discussion above, with our deployment of Exchange 2007, we created a set of web-based tools that allowed people to create Exchange Resources including distribution lists.  To allow multiple people to manage the lists for a given
department, we programmatically created a group, which is populated with one or more users from the "resource department".  We then set the following AD permissions to allow members of the group to manage membership of departmental distribution lists:
Add-ADPermission -User DepartmentalGroup -AccessRights ReadProperty, WriteProperty -Properties 'Member' -DomainController dc.contoso.com
Fast forward to Exchange 2010 and the landscape has changed with Exchange 2010's implementation of Role Based Access Control and I'm struggling to come up with a way to programmatically allow a group of users to manage distribution list membership for a
subset of distribution lists - note that we have approximately 75 departments, with each having its own set of coordinators who should be able to manage distribution lists for their department but not lists created by other departments.  The specific
error we receive in Outlook when attempting to modify group membership is the same as the title of this thread - "Changes to the distribution list membership cannot be saved.  You do not have sufficient permission to perform this operation on this object".
I implemented the settings referred to at
http://sysadmin-talk.org/2010/06/omg-allowing-end-users-to-manage-distribution-group-membership-in-exchange-2010-2/ which details the process of creating a new management role and revoking the role's ability to create new distribution lists and remove distribution
lists (which we want because we want those actions to be performed using our web tools).
All that to say that the ultimate problem we have is that the above relies on the "ManagedBy" field of a distribution list (viewable by Get-DistributionList Listname | fl *ManagedBy*) to determine group ownership.  When "ManagedBy" is set to a user,
the user CAN edit a distribution list's membership from Outlook and OWA.  When "ManagedBy" is set to a group, members of the group are UNABLE to edit the membership of the distribution list via Outlook or Outlook Web Access/ECP.   Furthermore,
Set-DistributionGroup does not allow you to specify a list of users to assign to the ManagedBy field.  However, if "ManagedBy" was set to a specific user and that user logs in to the Exchange Control Panel and adds additional "owners" of the distribution
list, which I can then see from EMS - both the original owner and any additional owners added can in turn modify group membership for the list using Outlook or Outlook Web Access/ECP.
    My questions:
    1) Is it "expected" behavior that while I can assign a group to the "ManagedBy" property of distribution list, members of that group are still unable to edit the group membership?  ...or is there a fix for the behavior I'm seeing?
    2) Can multiple values be assigned to the "ManagedBy" property when using Set-DistributionList - ex: Set-DistributionList DLName -ManagedBy:user1,user2
    3) Any other suggestions?
    Thanks,
    -Lance

  • Cannot "Send As" a distribution list in Exchange 2010

I'm trying to enable some of our users to send email as one of our distribution lists in Exchange 2010, and I cannot get it to work.
I have granted the users "send as" permissions on the distribution group in ADUC, both individually and as members of a security group. I also did the same using the "Add-AdPermission" PowerShell cmdlet.
I have ensured that the distribution list is visible to the GAL.
I have cleared Outlook's nickname cache.
I have tried waiting the specified two hours for Exchange settings to update, and I have also rebooted the Exchange server itself.
I continue to get bounce messages with "You can't send a message on behalf of this user unless you have permission to do so."
    What can I try next?
    Thanks,
    Jason

    Hi Jason,
I have a test in my lab. Here is the steps for your reference:
    1. Open Active Directory Users and Computers on Domain Controller. Click Users -> right click the distribution group -> click Properties -> click Security.
    2. Add the user that you want to grant "Send As" permission to the list. Allow the "Send As" permission.
    3. Click Apply, and then Ok.
Besides, we need to wait some minutes to take it effect.
    Hope it helps.
If you need further assistance, please feel free to let me know.
    Best regards,

  • I cannot expand (maximize) new windows for forwards and writing new messages

I am using the most recent version of Thunderbird on W7 laptop. When i attempt to forward an email it shows up as being there on the task bar (when you hover the mouse over the TB icon it shows all the new windows), I cannot maximize these new windows. It does the same thing when I try to create a new message. I can see the thumbnail on the task bar but I cannot expand it. It lets me close it, but that's it. I can read emails fine unless I double-click them. It opens the message in a new window but I cannot expand it.
    Any ideas?

Do you have the option to activate/ have focus on the window which the mouse is hovering over? I'm thinking that if you have this option selected then the main TB window may stay in focus because that is where the mouse pointer is pointing?
If you click on 'Write' and you see the Write icon in bottom Task Bar, this sounds like the window has opened but it is either:
Not got focus, so it is hidden behind the main thunderbird interface or another opened window.
or it has opened in minimised state, so is not behind other opened windows.
    '''First test: '''
Click on Write to open a new Write message.
Minimise Thunderbird, so it shows as icon on bottom Task Bar.
Can you see the open Write window?
If yes, then the Write message window is not getting focus.
    If no
click on the Write icon in the Task Bar does it then open?
If yes, then the Write window is opening in a minimised state.
When you right click on the Write window icon in the bottom task bar, please list all options available - not the greyed out ones.
    What results did you get?
Second Test: Restart Thunderbird in Safe mode.
Help > Restart with Addons disabled
    Now test:
click on Write - did Write window open in the front in focus.
If yes then it is likely that an addon is causing a conflict.
You would need to test by gradually enabling addons/extensions until you find the one which is causing the problem.
So, restart thunderbird, then go to Tools > Addons disable all the addons and then enable one at a time to see when the error occurs. This will tell you which Addon is causing the problem.
    Maybe the addon needs updating.
    Please report back on results.
In both thunderbird Safe mode and normal mode, does Ctrl+N open a new Write window in focus ?

  • How to send a broadcast message to public distribution list?

I set up a Pulic distribution list in Unity system, but what extension number should I dial to send a publick distribution list? What is the public distribution list number?
    Thanks for any input.

Log to Unity (press the Messages button and type your password). It will prompt you what is the button that you need to press to send a message (by default is 2), press that number, now it will prompt you to spell the name of the person or the distribution list. You can press ## (# key twice) to change to enter the extension.
If you go to the SAWEB and search for your Distribution List you will see that you can add and extension.
So by following the above instruction you can send a message by spelling the name of the DL or entering the extension of the DL.

  • Messages hang upon send when sending to a distribution list

I personally have noticed that when sending a message in Outlook 2007 with an Exchange 2003 server, messages addressed to a DL can sometimes give the spinning donut. I'm in the process of moving mailboxes to Exchange 2010, and the load is rather light
on 2010 at the moment. I have a couple of reports from the Outlook 2007/Exchange 2010 users that when sending messages to a DL, the message stays on screen for a minute or two before disappearing and sending. This seems like a global catalog issue. How do
I begin to troubleshoot and improve the time it takes sending messages to a DL?

    Hi,
Please confirm if the Distribution List in your posting is created in Outlook client by end user as Contact Groups.
If the DL is a distribution group which is created in Exchange 2010, please check whether the issue happens when sending a message in Outlook Web App. Please enable Cached mode in your Outlook clients to have a try.
Additionally, if the issue only happens to some users instead of all users, please update the Outlook client to the latest service pack to check it.

  • Setting Up A Contact Distribution List of Family Members for Text Messaging

    Friends,
Is it possible to set up a distribution list of my family contacts?  I have several brothers and sisters and would like to send the same text message to all of them at once.  Can I key all of their phone numbers into one heading such as "family" and then use that as my "phone" number in the TO field?
Please let me know if this is possible and if so, how do I do it?
    Thanks for your help.

You can send to multiple people but you can not save them as a group in the stock app but there is a number of apps on market that can do this.Try

You don't. There are, apparently, apps that purport to do that in the App Store, though.

  • Expand (deploy) distribution lists not working Outlook 2013 + Outlook Mac 15.9

I try to figure out how to expand (deploy) the distribution lists in both Outlook 2013 (Windows) and Outlook for Mac 15 (Apple). Actually it's extremely weird because it work randomly... We mainly uses Outlook for Mac 15.9 in the Office and some people (only
a few ones) actually see a blue down-pointing arrow in from of the Distribution Lists when they are it to the "TO" field in Outlook for Mac 15.9. Then if they click on it, the list are deploying and been replaced by employees in the list. On Outlook
2013 for Windows, there's NO WAY to get the small "+" sign in front of the distribution list... FYI, the same person who can deploy on Outlook for Mac 15, can't deploy on Outlook 2013 for Windows.
I already eliminate a lack of permission somewhere in my Exchange Online manager, because I am the "owner" of distribution list and I can't expand (deploy) it anyway in Outlook 2013 and I tried to promote somewhere else as the "owner" and
it doesn't make him/her able to expand any more.
FYI I created few distribution lists in my Exchange Online admin into the "GROUP" section, they are all Dynamics Distribution Lists and as I told you, some people can deploy (well, 99.9% of peoples CAN'T deploy lists, but a few CAN do it, 0.01% of
    employees).
I checked carefully in the distribution list settings on Exchange Online admin portal, but there's not much settings I can change...
The point is I MUST get the deploy feature to work with the distribution list because SEVERAL TIMES a week administration teams need to send email to all employees but while excluding a few of them, so they need to be able to deploy the dynamic list, then remove
manually the 2-3 peoples from the recipients list. As you can see on my screenshot, there's a few people where the blue arrows are working (Outlook for Mac 15.9)...

    Hi,
    Please follow these steps: -
    If
    RoomFinderShow = 0 under registry path: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Office\15.0\Outlook\Preferences
The Room Finder behaves the following ways when you start Outlook: -
The Room Finder is not shown by default on the
    Appointment tab.
You can manually enable the Room Finder on the
    Appointment tab.
If you open a new meeting from after enabling the Room Finder in another meeting room, the Room Finder is not shown by default on the
Appointment tab of the new meeting form.
If you manually enables and then disable the Room Finder on the
Appointment tab, nothing is written into the registry.
When you have the required update installed and
RoomFinderForceDisabled=1, Outlook will not display the Room Finder pane on either the Scheduling Assistant tab or the Appointment tab in a meeting form.

  • Orange mail software problem when using distribution lists : some lists cannot be used for writing e-mails. The problem does not exist when using Internet Explo

When writing an e-mail directly on the Orange e-mail service (not on Thunderbird) I am facing the following problem : some distribution lists cannot be used to complete the adressees. The same lists can be used without difficulty if I use Internet Explorer instead of Firefox. The Orange hotline told me that probably my Firefox version was not updated. Unfortunately I checked that, and apparently the automatic updating works. I have also updated the plug ins, without any result.

Please could you specify which webpage you mean ?
The process with Orange is the following :
    - 1. click on "Write an e-mail" on the mail webpage
    - 2. click on "To" to reach the Contacts which opens a new window
    - 3. click on "Distribution lists"
    - 4. click on the selected list then click on "add". The list appears ot the box corresponding to the addresses .
    UNTIL THEN EVERYTHING WORKS WELL
    - 5. click on the button "validate", which closes the window previously opened and normally
    - 6. reloads the initial page with the complete list on the line "To". Instead of that I get the last e-mail address I previously used .
    Question : at which step of this process should I try your suggestions ? I tried when the initial page was reloaded with the wrong address, but it did not work to get back the rignt distribution list;
Note that the whole process functions with OTHER Distribution lists. The only difference is that the problematic one has a larger number of adresses (62) however inferior to the maximum indicated by Orange (100).
I also remind that there is no problem when using Internet Explorer instead of Firefox.
    Thanks for your help !
