Cannot export in iPhoto 6.0.6

Having some trouble exporting photos in iPhoto on my MBP. I have tried selecting single pics , mutiple pics in a single roll and pics from multiple rolls. Destination is either the desktop, a folder on the desktop or a kingston 1gb usb drive. I have also tried both the original and JPG format.
After selecting the images and destination I get the message 'unable to create /Users/login name/destination/'.
Like I said I've tried several options but can't export. I was able to copy and paste the files from my iPhoto originals library onto the usb drive, but what's the trick with iPhoto?

Welcome to the Apple Discussions. You do know you've posted in the iPhoto 5 forum and iPhoto 6.
Are you able to drag a thumbnail from iPhoto's window to the desktop successfully? I suggest you repair disk permissions with Disk Utility and then select your User folder, type Command-I, and in the Info window that comes up set the following:
You can: read and write
Owner: your admin name
Access: read and write
Group: you admin name again
Access: read and write
Others: read only
Or download and run BatChmod on your home folder with the settings shown here, putting your administrator login name, long or short, in the owner and group sections. You can either type in the path to the folder or just drag the folder into that field.
Then click on the Apply to enclosed items... button. Now try again.

  • Cannot export in IPhoto 8

I tried to find all or any previous export type plugins. Do not quite know where they ALL would be. Everything in the libraries seems pretty essential and nothing is labeled "plug-in." Still, I cannot use the EXPORT command in iPhoto and I never had the problem in previous versions. Suggestions?

    jpthom:
Welcome to the Apple Discussions. In addition to 3rd party export plugins make sure you only have the FileExporter2.iPhotoExporter plugin and not a second one named FileExporter.iPhotoExporter. If you have both delete the latter one.
    Do you Twango?
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've written an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. It's compatible with iPhoto 08 libraries. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.

  • Cannot export from iPhoto after deleting photos in its library

... because it says it cannot find the original. It asks if I want to search for it myself, but I think it means searching for the ones I've deleted or something. I don't even want to upload those! Help!
I've read this somewhere else on this forum: "The ! or ? turns up when iPhoto loses the connection between the thumbnail in the iPhoto Window and the file it represents."
    That's exactly what's happening! Why?

create a new deafult iPhoto preference file - quit iPhoto and go to "your user name" ==> library ==> preferences ==> com.apple.iPhoto.plist and trash it - launch iPhoto which creates a fresh new default preference file . If you make any changes to it make a note of what chane syou have made.
Do NOT change the preference to copy imported items to the iPhoto library
depress the option key and laynch iPhoto and create a new library
Do not ever make any change to its content or structue using the finder or anyother program other than iPhoto
in iPhoto under the hlep menu go to the iPhoto help videos and watch them
Import a few photos and practice with iPhoto and ask specific question as you find things you do not understand
Most important is to never go directly into the iPhoto library - there is no need to and ther are no user servicable parts in it

  • Gallery Export.iPhoto Exporter locks export on iphoto plugin locks out export in iphoto 9.43

i cannot export on iphoto, everytime i do, a plugin called Gallery Export.iPhoto Exporter locks it. It presents a register splash screen that only offers a register option. if i cancel it cancals all export options - if i register it says i have no internet! Im totally baffled! It never allows we to choose any other export options. When I looked for the programme on my mac i could find no sign of it anywhere. I looked in the plugins folder for iphoto and no sign. I tried copying a version from my other mac into the said folder but no change. Can anyone help? I have never used this plugin and only want to get back file export!

Sounds like you've got a 3rd party Exporter there of some kind that needs to be removed or paid for.
In the Export dialogue, how many options do you have in the place indicated?

  • Cannot Export some pictures in Iphoto 09

    Hello!
Somehow, I cannot export some of my pictures to folders,... I did work before.
    Anyone knows what to do?
    Thank you!

    Option 1
Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Choose to Rebuild iPhoto Library Database from automatic backup.
    If that fails:
    Option 2
Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. This will create a new library based on data in the albumdata.xml file. Not everything will be brought over - no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your albums and keywords, faces and places back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one.

  • Cannot export slide shows with iPhoto 9.6 and OS 10.10

    Hallo!
I upgraded to Yosemite last Friday. Everything seems to work fine only iPhoto 9.6 makes some troubles. I cannot export any slide shows. When I click on "export" the small window opens as always before, the first pic is shown in this window, after that the window disappears and nothing else happens. iPhoto doesn't crash, but it also doesn't export any slide shows.
Does anyone have an idea what the reason could be?
Thanks and best regards from Klosterneuburg/Austria
    Andy

Some folks have fixed this by reinstalling iPhoto:
    To re-install iPhoto
    1. Put the iPhoto.app in the trash (Drag it from your Applications Folder to the trash)
    2. Download it from the App Store to reinstall It's on your Purchases List* there.
For older versions that have been installed from Disk you'll need these additional steps:
2a: On 10.5:  Go to HD/Library/Receipts and remove any pkg file there with iPhoto in the name.
2b: On 10.6: Those receipts may be found as follows:  In the Finder use the Go menu and select Go To Folder. In the resulting window type
    /var/db/receipts/
    2c: on 10.7 or later they're at
    /private/var/db/receipts
A Finder Window will open at that location and you can remove the iPhoto pkg files.
    3. Re-install.
If you purchased an iLife Disk, then iPhoto is on it.
If iPhoto was installed on your Mac when you go it then it’s on the System Restore disks that came with your Mac. Insert the first one and opt to ‘Install Bundled Applications Only.
*Sometimes iPhoto is not visible on the Purchases List. it may be hidden. See this article for details on how to unhide it.
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4928
One question often asked: Will I lose my Photos if I reinstall?
iPhoto the application and the iPhoto Library are two different parts of the iPhoto programme. So, reinstalling the app should not affect the Library. BUT you should always have a back up before doing this kind of work. Always.

  • Cannot export video from iPhoto

cannot export a video taken from an iphone. from iphoto to anything, it saves it as a 0.00 second movie file.
and yes before you ask i am changing it to original file :/

The problem is that iPhoto is looking in the wrong place for the file:
    / Volumes/Sagate/Iphoto_Library_2014.photolibrary/Previews/2014....... "
It should be looking in the Originals folder.
    Option 1
Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Choose to Repair Database. If that doesn't help, then try again, this time using Rebuild Database.
    If that fails:
    Option 2
Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. (In early versions of Library Manager it's the File -> Rebuild command. In later versions it's under the Library menu.)
This will create an entirely new library. It will then copy (or try to) your photos and all the associated metadata and versions to this new Library, and arrange it as close as it can to what you had in the damaged Library. It does this based on information it finds in the iPhoto sharing mechanism - but that means that things not shared won't be there, so no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your events, albums and keywords, faces and places back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one.

  • Cannot export movie files from iPhoto 11 (9.5)

Hi. Am not able to export movies from iPhoto 11. I leave the type as Original and get an error - see screenshot. Running on Mavericks and up-to-date iPhoto. Have tried to export to multiple places so hard drive space, etc. isn't the problem. Can export 32,000+ photos just fine but all the movies are erroring out.
Any ideas, and thanks for the help.

    Having the same problem.
Upgraded to Mavericks and iPhoto 9.5, and now getting this, every single time.
Happens with both Original and Current exports. The failed files are all point to the Previews location. I checked the first few, which do exist, but are 0KB big. However their master file location is fine.
This ends up leaving 120GB out of my 170GB collection of 1533 photos/videos.
Incredibly frustrating! iPhoto is useless to me now, and I have no way to get my photos out of it.
Here's the exact feedback I sent apple:
    I'm experiencing this issue:
    https://discussions.apple.com/thread/5478191?tstart=0
Since upgrading to Mavericks and getting the latest iPhoto version. I cannot export my entire photo collection (using original, and current settings).
It always fails with about 120GB of my 170GB collection left. The missing files are videos that iPhoto is trying to copy over the preview location, rather than the master location it seems. The discussion thread has more information.

  • IPhoto '11 Cannot Export Photos

Noticed tonight that I cannot export any photos. When i select the photo and select export, nothing happens. No messages or errors. No photos.
    Any ideas?

Welcome to the Apple Discussions. Look in your User/Library/Application Support/iPhoto/Plugins folder to see if the plugin is located there. If so move it out, launch iPhoto and try again.

  • IPhoto '11- Cannot Export using "File Export"

I just upgraded from iPhoto '09 to iPhoto '11. I imported photos off my iPod touch and edited them. After editing them however, I can't export them to anywhere on my computer. Even before editing I cannot export them.
    I've tried:
-Creating a folder manually in Finder
-Creating a folder in iPhoto during the export setup
When it starts to export, it suddenly says it could not create the new folder, despite it already existing. It says it cannot export the photos to any folder either. I've repaired Permissions in iPhoto (as well as in Disk Utility).

    Hello All,
I'm quit new with Mac.... and I am wondering hoe to export all my pictures to a Hard Drive that could easily be read where with Mac or Windows.
I've tried the export option, but it just stops after some thousands pictures ( I have almost 13'000 photos). Any idea why this is happening? Is this because I have some .AVI files saved on my iPhoto events?
This might be an issue with the format of your (external, I presume) hard drive. It would be worth trying exporting your files into several directories (folders). Perhaps try about 1000 in each directory.
Can you pin down any particular file that causes iPhoto to stall? If so, is it particularly large, does it work OK in iPhoto, will it fit onto your disc etc?

  • Import and Export with iPhoto and Raw

    I use PSE10 for AppleMac.
How do I export raw photos from iPhoto into PSE10 please, for editing?  I have set my preferences in iPhoto for editing in PSE .  The PSE edit page opens up blank - no raw picture editor or picture appears.  (I can take pictures into the software from picture folders in the usual way and work on them).
The obverse of this issue is, that  'export' is greyed out, so, even if I complete an edit direct
from a  folder I cannot export it back to iPhoto.
    Thanks.

  • Cannot export video clips.  Get message: "unable to create video for export"

Cannot export video clips from iPhoto to Finder folder.  Export fails with message "unable to create video for export: "
The video clips play correctly within iPhoto.
Software: iPhoto version 9.5 on OSX 10.9
    Hardware: Retina Macbook Pro 2.3 i7 8GB

Yes.  I have 3,184 video clips in this library.  I tested Reveal function by randomly selecting individual video clips and in every case the Reveal in Finder function worked correctly.  I also tested this on random selections of groups of video clips and, again, the Reveal function worked correctly in every case.
Some more info that may be relevant:
I have multiple iPhoto libraries.  My "main" library is very large (~30,000 files) and is located on an external hard drive (2TB WD) which is connected via USB.
The problem reported here is occuring on that "main" library.  I have not opened any other iPhoto library since installing the new release.
While the File>Export function does not work, I have been able to simply copy and paste video clips from iPhoto library to a folder on Mac hard drive.  It appears that meta data is copying correctly along with the video content.
I am able to import these copied video clips to iMovie.  Meta data is imported along with the video content and I'm able to perform iMovie editing functions on those clips without any problems.
In summary, the File>Export function still fails with the message "unable to create video for export."  Copying video clips and pasting them to interim folder seems to be a viable workaround enabling me to extract video clips from iPhoto for import to iMovie.  I will run additional tests to see if I can find a pattern to the video files that are being rejected by iPhoto Export function.

  • Export to iPhoto with Metadata

I am using LR 1.4 on an iMAC with OSX 10.5 and exporting to iPhoto which streams to my Apple TV and displays the photos nicely on our Plasma in our Family Room. I have entered information such as where the shot was taken etc. in the Caption area in LR. Is anyone aware how I can include that info in the export to iPhoto embedding it inside the photo. My goal is to be able to view the photos with a small area showing these captions.

You mean rendered on top of the image? That info is already embedded inside the image as metadata. To render metadata on top of your image, you can use the slideshow module, add a text overlay with your custom metadata and export to jpegs. You can do similar things inside the Print module but you cannot control the placement of the text.
