Cannot figure out what is going on!

I have installed Reader and Flash on my computer. I am running XP, Service Pack 3. My flash works for about an hour and then crashes. My adobe reader will not open anything and keeps on saying that I need new version of Adobe Air, when I try to install Air it says I need a new version of Air? My computer recently crashed about a month ago and I had a friend wipe the hard drive and he used the dell cd to put it back to factory settings. I cant completely uninstall all of adobe because when i go to control panel, add/remove programs it will not open. Everything else in my control panel will open except that one. Any suggestions? I did go to my computer, program files and try to delete but it didnt work.

The latest firefox release - 6.0.2 will not allow the program Rocketdock to pop up (be active overlaying firerox). NO previous releases had this problem. I cannot figure out what is going on.

Rocketdock functions like the windows task bar where it will hide until mouse over. The mouse over function seems to be the issue. Firefox somehow blocks recognition of the mouse for Rocketdock.

Local hostname already in use - can't figure out what's going on

I've been having issues with a wireless router and I think the problem lies somewhere within my computer. As I switch back and forth from trying to connect to the internet via my router or directly connected to my cable modem, I will often get this error:
"This computer's local hostname "xyz" is already in use on this network"
There is only one compuer on the network, however and I cannot figure out what's going on.
I have 2 users set up on this machine, but I'm the admin and acting as such. Even with no other networked equipment hooked up to my Mac (except for the cable modem) this problem won't go away.
I guess my real quesiton is what causes this and where should I go to troubleshoot things?
I'm running 10.4.6, connect to my ISP using DHCP and have the same problem with both a D-Link and Linksys router.
Any ideas?

If your previous setup follows a flow like this: RCA
CableModem-->NetGear Router-->AirPortExpress, there's
something misconfigured routing-wise in your network.
You have to decide which device (Netgear or AirPort
Xpress) will handle the routing in your network.
Previous to these problems, that was the basic flow of my network. The netgear router also fed a wired connection into a Wintel PC, and the AirPort Express hosted a wireless network that was extended by a second Airport Express. And that second AE connected to a ReplayTV with a wired connection. And then, of course, the PowerBook got Internet access wirelessly through the AE-hosted network. And that was it.
That network always was configured so that the netgear router assigned IP addresses using DHCP, and the Airport Expresses would not assign IP addresses (i.e., "Distribute IP addresses" was NOT checked when you look at the configuration in Airport Admin Utility).
How big is your network j? just 1 Mac (your
PowerBook)?
That was the state of the network a couple of days ago when I posted this. I have established that the PowerBook gets access to the Internet just fine directly though the cable modem, and just fine when it is the only wired connection to the router.
Let's deal with your Mac first:
Start with your Mac connected directly to the cable
Modem. (When your mac is attached directly to the
Cable Modem, do you use DHCP?)
Go to SystemPreferences-->Sharing and type a Computer
Name other than the default one
Open Applications-->Utilities-->Terminal and type
lookupd -flushcache (press Return) and reboot
the Mac.
I did this.
One way to fix your network is to have the NetGear do
the routing, and the AirPort Express to (just) extend
your (wired) network wirelessly (No routing will be
done from the AirPortXPress, (No distribution of IP
Addresses)
I soft reset both of my Airport Expresses. I configured the first one so that it was hosting a network, but not distributing IP addresses, and the second so that it was extending that wireless network. And I plugged the host AE into the netgear router. And for a little while, that was working.
But then I got a message saying "IP Configuration 192.168.0.4 in use by 00:04:40:06:1f:82, DHCP Server 192.168.0.1". The dialog box with that message will come up periodically as long as the Airport Expresses are plugged into power and one is plugged into the router. Also, I once agaiin received the message saying the local hostname (the completely original one that I had created) was in use, and the name was being changed.
Here is the thing. I cannot figure out what has that ...0.4 IP address and ...1f:82 MAC address on the network. That is not the "Internet port MAC address" or the "LAN port MAC address" for the Netgear router. It is also not the MAC address for either of the Airport Expresses or the PowerBook's internal Ethernet card.
I accessed the router through my browser, and clicked on "Attached Devices." Here is the list of Attached Devices:

The first two addresses are the two AE's, and the third is the internal Ethernet card of the PowerBook.

Thanks lllaass, but I am not computer literate and do not understand exactly what it is I am supposed to do. All of my photos were stored on Microsoft Windows Live Photo Gallery. When I now access the gallery the only thing that is there are the folders with the title of the folders. The pictures that were in those folders are now gone. I can no longer access them on my IPOD either. My photo library on my IPOD is now empty.

I cannot figure out what the "other" is that is taking up space on my iPOD.

Please help! I am in the process of burning my songs to my iPOD and I noticed when I synced it up that I had alot of orange, "other" stuff taking up space. I have a few television shows and am building up my music files. I cannot figure out what the "other" is. When I clicked the tab for photos, it had 23 photos that it pulled from My Pictures. However, I played around with the settings and it said under "photos," (0). However, it still has space that it is taking up.
I have alot of music to download and I don't want to have 5.38 bytes of used up space for which I don't know what it is.

Other can be album artwork, contacts, notes etc. If you feel that the Other is being incorrectly reported you could try restoring your iPod. Just be aware that restoring will erase the hard drive, reload the software and put it back to default settings, so if you have songs on your iPod that aren't on iTunes you will lose them if you have no back up. Once the restore is complete follow the on screen instructions and it should connect to iTunes and give you a prompt to automatically update your library onto the fresh installation. If you want to update manually or using selected playlists choose no and it will default to manual mode and you can choose whatever setting you like: Restoring iPod to factory settings with iTunes 7

I started making a movie in the new imovie '10. I opened up the project and can not record any new audio. All the recorded audio and music isn't playing. I can't figure out what's going on, I teach a flipped classroom and need to get these videos done!

Also, try disabling Active System Protection for your freezing issues. I'm using XP so I don't know where to tell you to find it in Vista.

No change in date or emails received with an update. No delivery of device I ordered a bundle with black case and charger.

Hi Everyone. I wanted to give you a quick update. As I stated in the original post, I ordered a grey iPhone 5s 64GB on 9/20 at 8am EDT (first time business customers could order). Received an email confirmation at 8:17 am confirming order and "will Ship by" of 10/7. I have heard nothing since. In fact, the online system still says expected ship date is 10/7. After talking to Vz support via DM over the weekend (post above) and then calling business support yesterday, I have come to find out that Verizon held the order until 10/9. They say the fraud department held it, but cannot explain why or why it took them two plus weeks to release it (account in good order and not a single communications via email, to the cell number or the land line of thee master account which is my desk). There was no issue ever identified. They are telling me that the order from their view was placed on 10/9 and I have to wait until 10/28 to get the device. To be clear, this is the same date for the "Will ship by" if I placed a new order today. Pretty sad. They are taking no responsibility nor are they honoring the orders in which they are placed. The customer service reps tell me they have no way to submit to get the order bumped up in priority with the warehouse or fix the issue. The reps have pointed to fraud prevention department as the problem (but they have no way to contact them), indicated that online ordering is yet another department with no contacts, etc. After talking to two reps and a manager (all very nice and well-intentioned), looks like I'm just going to get screwed and have to wait a few more weeks. It is unfortunate that "we" cannot trust orders placed online with Verizon, receive updated, clear and accurate communications or assume that Verizon will honor orders in the order placed. My only suggestion is that you have to call customer service to verify any orders and stay on them. My only hope is that somehow someone in Vz senior manager is paying attention to what is happening and attempts to fix the problems. I'm contemplating moving to another provider that apparently has stock online today. Don't want to, but losing faith quickly.

Syntax error in DW...cannot figure out what's wrong

I seem to have a problem adding a new slideshow to the JQuery slider. I've taken snapshots of the code. First photo shows the #slideshow code from 1 - 7. This is the way it is when I took over the job and they work. also there is no syntax errors in DW when I open this page up:

Here is where I add the bottom portion of the code for slideshow 8 and it seems to mimic all of the ones above (7, 6, etc.). However, DW says I have an error on line 139. Here is what I added:

Also after I added the code, all of the slideshows stop working (1 through 8). So I'm really confused and hoping someone can help what the problem is. Keep in mind I just took over this job so all of this code on the page that you see was done by the person before me. Not saying I'm a great coder myself but just wanted to point this out. Is this a virus? I can't figure out what is going on.

I am running on 10.8.1
These windows keep showing up and I don't know what they mean. It is screwing up my keychain and I can't log into any of my apps, like mail. If I click the reset button, it resets my keychain completely. I tried that and these still show up. If I click cancel, it comes right back up. If I click it enough times, they go away for a few minutes. Any help?

so can u please help me because my ipod is being stupid.So i reset all of the settings on it and i went to go turn it on and it started to tru on and then all of a sudden it got stuck on the apple logo and soi left it there for a night to see if it would go away and it didnt so i got a little scared because this is pretty new but i dont know what happend to it because i have done this reset the whole ipod and it worked fine but this time it is now frozen!! so if you could help that would be great thank you

hello kyra, one thing you can do is make sure you have it updated to the new version & also make sure you have the new update on iTunes. once that is done. restore the ipod. after that it should work. hope this helps.

Cannot figure out what my BB email address is.

Is this a device you bought used?
Do you have a BB Data Plan?
Look at Options > Advanced > Default Services. Is there an email address or two listed there?
Then the previous user did not remove his account from the device first. You can't use his.
You will need to call the previous owner and ask them to call their carrier and ask to have the PIN of that BB removed from his account.
Then you can create your own BIS account with the carrier.

Need help figuring out what's going wrong

With the explicit help/instructions of some users here I've managed to build some sort of a tokenizer.
There are a couple of mistakes in its rules which I am aware of, and probably it could be a lot more efficient, but I've found something funny. When copying a sentence from a WSJ article:

You're passing a regular expression into the replaceAll function (not just a normal String), so the "." you use in "i.e" really means "any character".
To mean literally a dot, you have to escape it: "i\\.e".
This problem will also happen in any of the other regular expressions with dots in them. So for example, "e.g." will replace "eggs", "edge", and "ergo" with "exempli gratia" as well.

I have made my entire Macbook Pro desktop larger. The dock doesn't show along with the tool bar at the same time. There's no room. I cannot figure out what I did, so cannot undo this huge screen. Any suggestions?

is always a Data Related issue.
Option 1
Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Choose to Rebuild iPhoto Library Database from automatic backup.
If that fails:
Option 2
Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. This will create a new library based on data in the albumdata.xml file. Not everything will be brought over - no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your albums and keywords, faces and places back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one.
